"What if I directed my firefighters to smash in the door of a residence in Pelham and confiscate all the matches, lighters, candles and the four liters of gasoline kept for the lawn mower, then displayed these items on a table for maximum effect, and called a press conference at which I explained that the community was safer because we had removed items that could be used to start fires?"

The Chief's verbal backhand to Toronto's Chief Billy Bliar was a great read in that article.
The Fire Chief already carries a card apparently that serves as a "warrant" for entry.
If I understand it correctly? It's for use IN CASE OF A REAL FIRE. Not some BS fishing expedition wasting scarce resources.
In other news... 85 year-old veteran's house raided over a souvenier bayonet he pulled from the heart of a National Socialist in 1945. Meanwhile the number of rapes increased on the other side of town. "We don't have enough resources and people" said Chief Wiggums.
In my opinion as a police officer attains higher rank the more he/she turns from police work to political pandering.
Chief Scott McLeod deserves a medal for political bravery!
Nice pic in the "related" link. How did Canada get to this point? I'm still a great believer in allowing only people with full-time employment and/or own property(on which they pay taxes)the ability to vote. I find it reprehensible that people who do not contribute monetarily to the socio-economic viability of a society are able to pick the leaders and decision-makers of said society. I'm assuming that most people who pay taxes would vote naturally for a party that has shown itself less intrusive in our lives and as a corollary less hungry for the tax-payers' hard earned money.

I read this three or four times, thinking it meant you're a police officer, and trying to make sense of it. If you had placed a comma after "opinion", I would have been able to understand it right away.
I'm not trying to be a grammar Nazi, but language is meant to communicate. Those inconsequential commas really do serve a purpose.
LOVE that 'related' picture! Now THAT shows an empowered woman!
What happened to all those Forehand and Wadsworth Tramp Terrors, that every woman used to have in a purse along with a jar of perfume and handkerchief?
Banned, banned for their fearsome 32 calibre.
Wasn't the idea that feminists wanted women to be safer by banning firearms from the hands of evil men?
OT/ This week on FNC there was a story of a young man that ran into a burning building to alert some sleeping people of the danger. The fire chief said in an interview that the man was very brave to risk his life for others. In addition, the man was accosted and arrested after he left the burning building by police for causing mischief in an emergency area.
This new safer society has mostly to do with suffrage.
Women want to feel safe and secure...and loved. (So do us guys, but that's for another thread)
To not have any guns, knives, matches, gasoline..etc. is a basic human instinct to preserving life. When there are bad guys running around and doing their bad guy things and society has the "whatever" attitude, it throws the women folk into a dither. They feel threatened and either want the men folk to take care of them or make the world a better and safer place by getting rid of everything that can hurt us.
What does this have to do with suffrage? Who in downtown TO want all the guns banned. The women living in the apartments in the downtowm core and the single parents whose kids are fatherless and running around the streets in gangs, shooting up their rivals. The easy fix is to ban the guns. The hard fix is to have all the breeding dads take responsibility for their actions, get married, stay married and raise their families.
Everyone is safe and secure, dads look after their sons and daughters and love their wife. They all vote as a family unit, one family, one vote.
Next world problem....
I sure like the related link 'Kate'.
This why I really like firemen....
They don't have time for Political BS.
A while back hereabouts the local volunteer fire-guys responded to an alarm and found a home invasion in progress....
The matter was resolved and well in hand before the constabulary arrived....
Nuff said.
How many lives are snuffed out each year when people fall down the stairs or drown in their bathtubs? How long are we going to stand by and let the blood run free?
We should ban stairs and bathtubs!
Eeyore: We do know exactly how many thanks to Statcan. Help yourself. But the liberals still won't let a fact stand in a way of perfect campaign.

Why do the majority rulers in Ottawa-Toronto-Montreal who want to control guns on their streets, need to make farmers and hunters criminals whereas they could instead, make it a hanging offense to have or use a gun when committing a crime? Can it really be just because the libtard rulers don't want to be mean to criminals? When will hunters and farmers become an official minority needing the rulers protection?
Please accept my apologies for missing comas.
Self-sufficiency must really drive people nuts. God forbid an adult be responsible for his actions and be able to look after his own house, or a woman fight off an attacker.
justsaying @1:49
Your coma isn't missing. The Toronto police chief is using it.
It seems people who should never have got the job in the first place; promote stupid ideas because they have little logic or nothing up there to begin with. Toronto has more than their share of these wonder people.
Why do I think that if this had been 500 years ago, Balir & Miller would be witch burners,
for much the same reasons.
we need private property in the constitution, and guess which groups elitist leaders don't want that? da cop is always looking for the crack in the door
cops grandstanding? you don't say . . . .
what parameters are necessary to calculate the odds of Canuckistan turning into a police state?
I once got assaulted at a VIA rail station by a drunk bigger than me. so I decked him. it was all caught on a couple of the numerous surveillance system cameras. didn't help me though, the cop that showed up blamed it all on me and refused 3 times to look at the g&^%@mn video.
then 6 months after that, my car got broken into right in front of my place, all caught on video. AGAIN the cops refused to so much as give the *appearance* of investigating the crime and once again instead refused to look at or even accept the video disk.
and then woodstock ontario cops completely boffed the Tori Stafford kidnap and murder.
why do these people make $90,000 a year when clearly they are so useless?
Well said chief.
Now, what would really scare me is if they did this with my books. What will my leftoecolowacko neighbours think when they see what I read? I shudder.
Curious George---you have no idea.....
Just north of Woodstock...with much expense a "round-about was installed"---at massive expense to control traffic which is heavy several times a year for several events( predictable).
The construction was complete Oct 28 but the site remained closed for a week until the poobahs/panjanderums did their ribbon cutting/official opening.
In that week, Woodstock (Oxford Community Police) put a man and cruiser on that corner, 24/7 to ticket ($120) anyone using the officially "closed road".
Favill @ 10:27am. I completely agree with you. I have always said (well for the last 5 years anyway) that the parasites of society should have NO say in how the money of the hosts is spent. One of the conditions of welfare, or being a criminal, etc should be that you relinquish your right to vote until such time (if ever) that you become a contributing member of society.
