Don’t laugh.
It’s the only way Halifax remains above sea level in the summer.

Thats just too creepy. Typical though that any future you now see where back to wattle & daub housing.
Not so the elites.
When will the global warming shtick ever end? For the next week, night-time temperatures in Ontario are forecasted to be between -5 and -10 centigrade, when the average is +3 for this time of year.
Some days I have an uncontrollable urge to grab every AGW moron (esp. those with the pretend PhDs in “social sciences” and the sell-out scientists like Fruitfly) by the scruff of the neck and repeatedly &?%#*&$?%? against a cement wall. Even my dogs have figured out there is no “warming” in global warming – you try to shove a troop of terriers out the door in the AM when there is frost on the ground notwithstanding that the sun’s height in the sky is supposed to signal warmer temps.
Ah… all AGW believing cretins can bite me. I’ve yet to encounter one who has a smidgen of scientific literacy, and I’ve conversed with the above-mentioned PhDs in social b&&&s**t more often than my stomach can stand.
Leftism truly is a mental illness
I’m getting so tired of this whole sham, and tired of fighting it. The tide should have turned long ago, yet the behemoth fraud that is AGW continues.
What are those structures in the foreground? The beach cocktail bars? A tropical paradise right here in Canada!!
I haven’t been to Halifax yet. Maybe I’ll plan a trip there for when I retire, which is not too terribly long away. If the warmists turn out to be right, the harbour should be properly inundated by then. Bring it on, baby!!
Saw a piece on tv about a protype prefab floating barge house developed at UCLA, sponsored by Brad Pitt, that was loaded on two semi-trucks and taken to New Orleans for assembly. It is part of the post-Katrina reconstruction effort. Totally self-contained, provides its own energy, water processing, etc.
3 yrs for a boatload of crap on a nonexistent problem, paid by taxpayer money, milked by burotards and swallowed by headchallenged polits.
Harper was on the radio today pitching for the carboniferous demented set. Jesus.
We actually have a couple of harbourfront towers in Halifax built partially on stilts already. Outside of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, and some Moslems, I know of no religious group more resistant to reason and evidence than anthropogenic global warmists.
And where do the contents of the toilets go?
Roseberry, add the religion of socialism/socialists to your list:
“GUSTAVE LE BON and the Crowd
Socialism is in fact nothing but the religion of the Stomach.” http://www.fulltable.com/crowd/07.htm

Same place the contents go now Matt.
And Kate? Summer? What is this summer you speak of? An event unknown here for the last three years.
Saw Doc FruitFly on Power Play today, screeching about the unproven science of carbon capture. He truly is a fanatic. His area of expertise is genetics, so why does he pretend to have all the answers on climate change? I was hoping for Tom Clark to ask him about the number and size of his houses.
Poop going into Halifax harbour?
What about the poor SeaKittens?
Marc in Calgary writes: “I believe that in Halifax, all of the contents of the toilets goes straight into the harbor. Chunks and all, as it has for all but a few months of the past x hundred years that those people have lived there.”
Not quite. For almost one glorious year, the sewage treatment plant worked; then last January, just a few days after the municipality assumed responsibility for it, the plant failed, and it was back to “chunks and all”. Just recently, the plant has been able to filter the “chunks” but it will take at least a year more to get back to the status as of January 2009. Some days, parts of downtown remind the passerby of nothing so much as the nastier parts of a Greyhound station.
I stand corrected Roseberry, my aim was not to slander Halifax, only a response to Mississauga Matt @ 10.03, and I think he knew he was asking a leading question. 😉
Everybody knows the primary source of global heating is the Sun- scientists say it accounts for some 98% of the earth’s heat. They also say ice/snow cover can mitigate said warming by reflecting the sun’s rays back into outer space.
We also have the enviro-idiots promoting those stupid twisty cfl’s in an attempt to cut down on electrical usage- (via: inferior light quality, unsuitability (ie: cold), enviro hazard re: disposal, cost- life only a fraction of advertised). It would surprise me not if some of these same Einsteins chucked their fully uesable incandescents into the burgeoning landfills to comply with the Suz-yucky manifesto.
But, there is still hope…
In a novel greenie strategy, I propose that every household should erect mirror panels atop their houses to reflect those insidious solar rays back into space, and thus nullify the problem. For those who have already installed solar-tracking solar panels for their power needs, this should be a relatively easy hook-up. Talk about killing two birds with one stone!
And another thing- if global warming is such an issue, why do we have our parking lots, our highways and airports all black? Surely the solution is ‘PAINT THEM ALL WHITE!’
On an aside…. don’t you feel sorry for those poor Black Angus cattle pasturing in that oppressive summer heat, absorbing rather than reflecting all that thermal heat back to the ionosphere? At plus 30, I bet they wish they were Charlais, or Jersey, or something whiter. But they’re delicious. Same with those big black moose, and I’m looking forward to taking one of those swamp donkeys this fall.
Just trying to do my part.
Btw, do you suppose Michael Jackson was on to something?
Regarding Al Gore’s money-making “Green” industry, Dennis Miller had a beautiful line:
“Beware of the prophet making a profit!”
Colin,
We are all tired of trying to fight this nonsense, but fight it we must. This is how the left works, they are tireless in their grinding efforts, bit by bit, to destroy our civilization. By slow incrementation, they have tried to shape society to fit their own myopic and self centered ideals. They care not a whit for others but only for themselves. The left personifies greed and narcissism, and they will not stop until the whole world is made sinister by the light of their perverse science.
If you care for your children, if you care for your ancestors, if you care for your fellow human being, do forebear yourself and fight on.
(To paraphrase Churchill just a bit)
Snagglepuss: The city of New York is planning on painting most/all roofs white in order to reflect heat; it’s supposed to cut down on AC use.
What do they plan on doing in the winter I wonder? Repaint them black. http://www.theepochtimes.com/n2/content/view/22980/
I believe the quote was … “beware of the prophet seeking a profit.”
It was a great Miller-moment … I don’t think he likes prophet Gore.

reg dunlop – I did not hear the Prime Minister so I cannot verify that he is on the global warming hoax soap box – I know that I have heard him on the ‘clean -up the mess’ band wagon -like the open sewers in Halifax and Victoria – and I do agree with the clean up objective. If the Prime Minister was on the ‘warming hoax’ jag then perhaps we should dig out some of his past speeches on the ‘warming hoax’ topic. Our Prime Minister is sane on this subject and the only reason he is on the ‘environment file’ is that Canadians DEMANDED action – many of them voted for the green shaft Deyawn Party, the Dippers Whacko Jacoites and for the Commie separtistas in the last election. Canadians who listen to CBC/CBC etc. for information are like hothouse tomatoes – shallow and red – nothing is all they know.
So far I have seen heroic efforts by our Prime Minister to try to bring some common sense into the goofy discussions on the earth’s plumbing problems – like most mothers the old earth has some drainage problems but hot, inflammatory air from air head men blaming the heat problem on themselves will solve nothing – it will just make things worse.
Clean up the air and the water and use the land with sense and we will have a happy Mother Earth. Don’t attempt to starve and kill God’s children with ludicrous hallucinatory blow outs about lowering hot air in the atmosphere. We, the people, LIKE hot air; the fanatics in the eviroweenie world can look for another hoax to line their pockets. We, the people, are on to the climate hoax and we are going to just say ‘no’ to the demands of evil human haters.
Love that Denis Miller!!
Millers best line that passed the censors and went right over Jay Lenos head was his complaint that if you go into a fitness centre you dont just witness some guy sprucing up but “rubbing in gobs of jojoba oil trying to take the wrinkles out of his nut hammock” Leno didnt get it for about a minute after he said it.
The last sentence of the press release tells you everything you need to know.
“The Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research is funded by the Natural Environment Research Council, Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and Economic and Social Research Council.”
4 organizations all undoubtedly with their hands out riding the AGW gravy train to keep their bureaucracies afloat.
WRT Halifax poop, Roseberry has it correct. When the flaw in the sewage treatment plant raised its ugly head, approximately 4 million liters of raw sewage accumulated within and spilled out of the plant. If memory serves me correctly, it was February 2009. The stuff that made it outside froze very quickly and became a nightmare in the Spring. It took around six months for the stench to subside. The plant still isn’t fully operational.
“I know of no religious group more resistant to reason and evidence than anthropogenic global warmists.”
While we’re on the topic of Halifax, you might add the so-called “heritage preservation” types to that list. It takes years to get anything approved for development in downtown Halifax because those stuck-in-1790 fruitcakes raise every objection they can think of to block anything more than about 10 feet high. All in the name of “preserving the view of the harbour from Citadel Hill” – said view comprising of downtown Dartmouth, which is hardly impressive, and an oil refinery right beside it. A lot of commercial development has moved to the outlying areas as a result.
Another sewage treatment plant is supposed to come online next year, I think, though whether they’ll have the first one running again by then is anyone’s guess. City council won’t divulge any details on exactly what happened, when the plant’s going to be online again, that sort of thing. We’ve got a do-nothing mayor who’s happy to spout platitudes instead of actually take charge (which is still way better than a David Miller type!).
Still, and I admit I’m biased, the ladies here are the second-best-looking in the country 🙂 (Montreal is tops, no question!)
lol.
Well, people do pay top dollar to stay in stilt houses in Fiji. I’m not sure they’d do the same in a cold January night in Halifax…
The sewage system here in Halifax is indeed crappy but like everything else touched by government hands, everyone is playing the blame game about how did the brand new treatment plant (30 years in the taxing and planning)flood. So for most of the past year and all of the tourist season visitors and locals alike could see AND smell what Halifax has to offer.
On the bright side, as one who sails in the Halifax Harbour, it is a whole lot better smelling offshore. Sadly, this doesn’t help the beachcombers along Point Pleasant Park.
btw, had to scrape some global warming off my windshield this morning.
Across the Rio Negro from metropolitan Manaus in Brazil, people live in small floating shanties not too different from those shown in your picture. They just rise with the river when it’s in flood each year. They and their kids look and behave as if they’re quite healthy. I mean, there are no big screen TVs to ban and the rule is next to no clothing not to mention $200 sneakers. Yet, they don’t look much different than the pack of screaming maniacs roaming the neighborhood when I was a kid in the ’60s.
Having lived in Halifax for a short time, I can tell you houses on stilts won’t fly. Is everyone forgetting hurricanes?
