  2. Your tax dollars hard at work. CBC is running self promotion ads on FOX News. And here I’ve been tuning in to FOX just to avoid anything CBC.

Dawg: Keep up the good fight! Nazis all over Canada are looking to you.
Kathy: There are Nazis all over Canada??!!
News to me. Quick, Dawg, grab your gun and join me in fighting them today. You and I will fight the Nazi menace the only way that works: through physical force. In 48 hours, I can get a dozen people with guns, who each know another dozen people with guns, who will happily do an Inglorious Basterds on their asses.
    I’m (deadly) serious.
    Are you…?
Oh wait: you don’t believe in private gun ownership, which leaves you pretty dickless in this fight.
Unless there’s no need to have such a fight.
Because you and I both know you’re just talking smack about “Nazis all over Canada.”

My colleagues have been nattering about the concerns expressed by President Obama pressing himself on grade school children. The best the CBC could do was to compare Obama’s uninvited visit to George W. Bush reading a story in one elementary classroom on 9/11. No legacy media journalist looked at the last President to speak through television to all school children. Most wouldn’t even understand the irony.

  7. Yeah, that’s it.
Dubya reading a children’s book is exactly the same as a stay-in-school video of the Great Leader.

  8. The Globe reported an excerpt from the Ohbummer speech to the school kids today thus: “You’ll need the insights and critical thinking skills you gain in history and social studies to fight poverty and homelessness, crime and discrimination, and make our nation more fair and more free.”
Apart from the fact that “critical thinking” is an anti-concept these days meaning criticism of capitalism, the truth is that genuine critical thinking about the current political and economic situation will reveal that the coercive powers of Big Government are responsible for the problems. Nations would certainly be much more free without it. And more fair too, because capitalism is based on the principles of justice.
One suspects that much of the indoctrination in public schools is found in the social studies classes.

    A bit OT Joanne –
I received ANOTHER email from the ‘friends’ of the CBC outlining their ‘campaign’ for the next election.
    “Dear,…….
I am writing to you with an urgent request for your help.
Political sabre rattling has reached a feverish pitch in Ottawa, making an election within weeks most probable. We must move quickly to replenish FRIENDS’ war chest and prepare for the biggest campaign in our history.
During last year’s election, do you recall how Stephen Harper’s dismissive comments about arts and culture mobilized Canadians and made culture a big issue?
Together, we can make the deteriorating state of Canada’s public broadcaster an issue in the coming campaign. With CBC laying off 800 of its creative people and burning furniture to heat its house through fire sales of assets, those of us who care about a strong public broadcaster need to speak up.
We are planning what could be our biggest and most aggressive campaign ever in defence of the creative people who make CBC radio and television programs.
With your help, we’ll be rolling out a series of initiatives to make political candidates stop and take notice of the broad support CBC enjoys. I will send you details in the coming weeks but here’s a taste of what we’re planning:
-on-line targeting of all candidates across Canada with a strong call to support public broadcasting
-specific off-line actions in important ’swing ridings’
    -election-specific research and publications
direct contact with influential politicians and campaign staff
-some top secret initiatives that I will tell you about later
Doing all of this effectively depends on you. FRIENDS relies solely on the generosity of dedicated Canadians who care about public broadcasting and cultural sovereignty.
Please send us your special election contribution today.”

  13. O’zymandias*?
Where was this* first used? SDA gets results.
    …-
“Barack Ozymandias (More properly worded as “How a god turns into a mortal”)
News is the first draft of history”, or so we’re told. In truth, the “news” reported by mass media seldom reflects the crucial events of the moment. News reports of the summer of 1914 treated the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand as a trivial Balkan matter, of little interest to anyone in the more civilized areas of Europe. Similarly, you’d look long and hard in the late spring of 1950 for any mention of a place called “Korea” in U.S. papers. “News”, as the major media describes it, is almost without exception trivia.
Nothing has changed. In the summer of 2009 we’re overwhelmed with stories about the death of the most notable trannie since Elagabalus, followed in short order by solemn meditations on the demise of a criminal politician, along with a few sidebars devoted to the imperial vacation at Martha’s Vineyard. And oh yeah — Michelle’s shorts. How could I have overlooked them? But none of that, needless to say, will go into the books. The real story this summer, the one that the scholars will be pondering for decades to come, concerns the absolute collapse of the American messiah.
It looks as if Rush can rest easy — the Big O has failed, and failed completely. You couldn’t say the same about an ordinary president at this stage of his first term. At eight months after inauguration, the run-of-the-mill chief exec is still gearing up, getting a feel for things, beginning to put his plans into motion. But Obama, as we have been told time and again, is in no way ordinary. He is a man spoken of in religious terms — the One, the Messiah, the Lightbringer. On the stage of history, we do not create our roles.”

  14. Is China going to make good on its recent threat to repudiate derivatives? Well, if you were going to make good on that threat, you would want to be sure that the counterparty was not holding on to your stash of bullion. Getting your thousand-year-old ducks in a row would probably include moving your gold out of London to Hong Kong.

  16. The response I received from the WWF concerning the planes converging on the WTC ad.
Dear not stirred enough said at,
Thank you for your email. We appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns. Please see below the most recent news release from WWF-International.
WWF reiterates its strong condemnation and repudiation of this offensive and tasteless ad, and expresses its regret for any pain it may have caused to 9-11 victims and their families.
WWF Brazil, and DDB Brazil – the agency responsible for creating the ad – acknowledge that it should never have been made, approved or published. It is completely contrary to WWF’s philosophy and we are working hard to find out just how this unfortunate mistake came about.
We deeply regret that statements provided earlier in the week, while given in good faith and based solely on the information we had at the time, may not have been completely accurate. We stand by our earlier position that the advertisement and video are utterly inappropriate and should never have seen the light of day. They do not in any way reflect the thoughts and feelings of the people of WWF. Again, WWF strongly condemns this campaign and offers our sincere and heartfelt apologies.
    Kind regards,
    Leanne

  17. A nugget from another poll in today’s Rasmussen Reports.

  18. Tarek Fatah, Abandon the doctrine of jihad
We Muslims had barely recovered from the news of the 14-year conviction of the Canadian terrorist Saad Khalid, when our Labour Day holiday was interrupted with the bulletin that three of our co-religionists had been found guilty in the U. K. of plotting to kill thousands of people by blowing up planes bound for Toronto, Montreal and other North American cities…
I will not be surprised if Islamist leaders in the U. K. and North America now line up at the mics and issue the familiar denunciations of terrorism accompanied by the oft-repeated claim that “Islam is a religion of peace.” I say to them, this is not enough. Now is the time to say loudly, the doctrine of jihad is outdated and needs to be abandoned…

  20. Interesting comment from Jerry Pournelle:
Of course there are public health issues when it comes to communicable diseases, but many of those were curtailed with the advent of AIDS when it was clear that the old mandatory tracking down of sources of sexually transmitted diseases was unacceptable to many AIDS victims. I don’t intend to argue that; my point is that if you choose to pig out on Twinkies and take no exercise, you are not really a danger to me. Of course if you insist that I pay for your health care, I may acquire along with that financial obligation some rights of control over your behavior, and I will probably insist on exercising them.

  21. Left-liberals: Kill Bills.

Go here* for an expose of the left-liberal mindset on crime.
    …-
“Election would kill tougher crime bills: Van Loan
HALIFAX — Public Safety Minister Peter Van Loan warned Wednesday that a federal election would jeopardize efforts by the Conservative government to get tough on crime.
Van Loan said if the Liberals force an “unnecessary vote” it will kill several bills currently on the order paper.
“What is of concern with an election looming is the number of pieces of legislation that we have on the tackling crime front that would be at risk,” he told a news conference shortly after announcing almost $2 million in crime prevention spending.
Van Loan cited several examples including legislation to increase sentences for major drug crimes and tighten the rules for parole.
One of them is a Tory bill that would change the so-called faint hope clause, which currently gives some people convicted of serious crimes a chance at early parole.
“That (bill) would die on the order paper,” he said.”

OTTAWA — It looks like Jeffrey Arenburg won’t be heading to town after returning to Canada yesterday.
Arenburg, who was found not criminally responsible for killing CJOH sportscaster Brian Smith in 1995, crossed the border at Fort Erie after being released from a U.S. prison.
According to CTV, Arenburg spoke to Niagara Region police and told them he has no plans to come to Ottawa, choosing instead to go to Barrie where he has family.”
“It was Arenburg’s first reported brush with the law since he was granted an absolute discharge from an Ontario mental health institution, where he was receiving treatment for paranoid schizophrenia after the shooting.
The Ontario Review Board, which oversees people found not criminally responsible due to mental illness, approved the discharge in 2006.”

“Arrest Warrants Issued for 11 Acorn Workers in Florida (Homestead/Miami)
Arrest warrants have been issued in Miami for 11 people suspected of falsifying information on hundreds of voter registration cards last year. The FBI and state authorities were making arrests Wednesday. The workers being sought were hired to register voters by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN. Prosecutors say they were first notified by ACORN about problems with workers in June 2008. Republicans and conservative activists have accused ACORN of fraud in voter registration drives around the country. ACORN officials say the Florida case proves the organization is committed to an honest process. The case involved nearly 900 fraudulent voter cards in the Homestead area.”

  24. This if from an editorial by Barbara Yaffe — I think it was published a few days ago, but appeared in the Citizen today. It is in reference to the Ignatieff article in the New Yorker. This quote jumped out at me:
“He’s quoted on what lured him to politics: “Seeing countries tear themselves apart gave me a very heightened appreciation of the absolute necessity of our own experiment succeeding …”
What is odd is that Ignatieff sees many problems in the world and starts his quest to address these by “fixing” Canada. What exactly does he think needs fixing anyway? What are we not getting right according to him? How does he anticipate we might fail if he is not there to guide us? There is also a hint of the detached academic observer in his use of the word “experiment”. We are the “experiment” and Ignatieff puts himself forward as the one to mastermind the experiment to ensure the desired result.

“Speaking privately yesterday, a number of MPs and backroom Liberals professed extreme disquiet at Mr. Ignatieff’s strategy. … ‘There’s no credibility in voting against a government which stimulates the economy with $10-billion because you think it should be $12-billion. If I had his ear [said a Toronto Liberal], I’d tell him to wait until there’s a real reason, not some artificial excuse.’”

The “Worldview” ad is hilarious! When Ignatieff counsels Canadians to reach out to India and China, I can see Mo Strong and Jean Chretien standing over his left shoulder. Heck, these guys might just as well have been doing a Kumbaya circle dance with him around one of those green trees.
