Donald Vails, on piano, is joined by a who’s who of inspirational singers spanning several generations including Jessy Dixon, Walter Hawkins, the Barrett Sisters, Bishop Richard White (aka Mr. Clean), former Chicago Duncanaire Delores Sykes, and surviving members of The Caravans, including Albertina Walker. Fans of the Beatles and Rolling Stones may also recognize the organ player in the red sweater as Billy Preston.

How the CBC destroyed my Dominion Day:
In my truck this evening I had the not rare enough experience of hearing the CBC. We only have two other stations around here — “The Moose” and “The Bear” — and I’m too lazy to dig out a fresh CD. My laziness was immediately punished by having to listen to one Jian Ghomeshi pretend to interview some fellow who had written a lengthy apologia on behalf of Pierre Trudeau — this being Canada Day and all.
I understand Ghomeshi was once the singer of some sort of novelty songs which were somewhat less memorable than Ray Steven’s “The Streak”.
What transpired more resembled the two of them taking turns tenderly adminstering oral sex to the lavishly preserved corpse of the long-dead Trudeau. By God, they gave it the old college try!
I listened in revulsion for a short while, but finally was forced to turn off the radio before having to hear them wipe their double chins.

At last some good news.
Canada has fallen to last place in the latest G8 Climate scorecard by the World Wildlife Fund and insurance giant Allianz. Great news that our emissions are steadily increasing, hurray! The report says Canada’s per capita emissions are among the highest in the world and mid-to-long-term greenhouse gas targets are inadequate.
Way to go Canada and on our national holiday as well!!!

I would agree with the general thrust of the article, that in the near term short range lasers as a defensive weapons system would be of more interest on the battlefield than the more problematic Air-Borne-Laser(ABL).
The latter suffers from beam dispersion over longer distances and heat dissipation problems, not to mention being too close in to enemy anti-aircraft batteries. In short, more R&D will be required. The short range weapons systems tests look to be a more battle ready bet in the 100 m to 2Km range.

Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) have been emblematic of the insurgency in Iraq. Why have so many disparate insurgent groups with varying resource levels chosen the same means to pursue their often-conflicting goals? And, a more important question, what can we do to eliminate IEDs as the leading cause of coalition force casualties?
Coalition forces cannot out-armor or out-engineer the problem, although an IED’s physical effects can be, and have been, mitigated… We will not defeat the IED problem with a single solution, Nor will we likely ever solve it in the literal sense. However, if we counter IED attacks as part of an overarching counterinsurgency strategy, we can reduce an insurgency’s ability to gain strategic advantages with IEDs…
I have mentioned this before about the graffiti being scrawled on the window replacement at the school I pass on the way to the gym. Today two of the large main windows have been blown out by paint guns. This destruction of our public property is tragic to see. These windows are barely 3 weeks old!
There must be some way we can bring back the lash as is used in Singapore to beat the living hell out of these POS and it would go a long way to reforming criminals. Cheap, easy and effective but of course not politically correct in our hug-a-thug society.
