Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation and pursuant to our Saturday night distinguished lecture, documentary & interview series, here are excerpts from the inimitable Mr. Jackie Mason‘s Lecture & II from the occasion of his being awarded a fellowship in the Oxford Union Society in 1992.
By the way, ladies and gentlemen, tonight’s a year now, already, since SDA Late Nite Radio first officially hosted Reader Tips, in what was soon to become a regular affair. Who would have thought? On the other hand, tonight’s SDA LNR cheese selection is Colston Bassett Stilton, surely one of the finest cheeses ever.
Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

A great [?] quote from B.C.
This sounds like T-Ball where they don’t keep score, but every kid knows the exact score. stoopid non-judgementalists
Thank you very much for taking this on Vitruvius.
It has been noted that your contributions to Kate’s blog are appreciated by many… I hope that you enjoy this as much as, most of us, do… thanks again, and a fine cheeze for an anniversary.
and I hope Calgary wins the Expo bid..
What a surprise: Alleged Fiscal Conservatives don’t know how to manage the economy.
They never have done, so why should they now know how to do it?

I take some small amount of satisfaction from the coincidence of this most recent Canadian Conservative failure with the anniversary of 30th anniversary of the beginning of the Thatcher failure in Britain.
Well done, right-wingers: your dishonesty and incompetence have been exposed for all to see, for decades now.
Ahhh, poor Stephen. You really don’t get it do you? Canada is not an island. We, and the rest of the world are being sucked into the vortex of that black hole of spending to the south. and let us not forget all the socialists that want to spend their way out of debt. Did you really think that propping up the automakers was what was best? Heaven forbid that those fat cat union dudes get laid off. no, the taxpayer will foot the bill because that is the Canadian way. I may not agree with the way PM Harper is throwing my money away but I give him full marks for trying to do what he can with a minority government. If you recall, the junta wannabes in December wanted to spend even more, provided the separatist party approved. Chew on that for a while.
btw, Don Martin isn’t exactly a great source of information. He’s a columnist trying to figure out what to say every week.
Texas Canuck…. Don Martin= columnist???? I would think more along the line of an obvious amateur wanna be propagandist.
Is there some sort of problem with the space time continuum? Is this a first? I can’t remember an instance of this ever occurring before.

Kate,
Thread worthy:
The Obongo’s were yet again doing a multi thousand dollar public exhibition yesterday by flying to New York for a dinner and a show.
Every weekend it’s either camp David or a paparazzi fest t feed both of their insasiable narcissism. All on the tax payers back of course.
Tomorrow, GM files for bankrupcy with thousands of jobs on the line…While the Jeffersons are showing off their threads.
Again, just thursday Barry had to stop to pick up burgers for his crew. Another very security expensive camera show.
How statesman like…
…I would comment more but it could be viewed as racist so I won’t.
Excellent article about aid to Africa by Dambisa Moyo, author of ”Dead Aid”. Now with the publication of her book Dead Aid, she has become an uncommon voice, a strong and eloquent advocate of stopping financial aid to Africa as the best way to help the troubled continent. It is an idea contradicting rock star campaigners, Western politicians and grassroots wisdom all at once. As she makes her way to Canada for a highly anticipated debate on Monday with Stephen Lewis and others at the Munk Debate on Foreign Aid.
I would love to listen to this debate with super-lefty Lewis. Kate, this would be worth following as it hits one of SDA’s hot buttons, the impact of aid to our natives, car industries and our welfare society.

Dave The NP interview is a good one. This is not a new concept, it has been kicking around for years but now has the face of a photogenic, young successful woman so maybe it will take root. Stephen Lewis has said ‘I am an African woman.’ in one of his speeches. Stephen..no you ain’t.

“Leaders live in luxury while North Koreans starve to pay for nuclear bomb
Satellite images of North Korea have revealed the luxury lifestyle of dictator Kim Jong Il and his inner circle, replete with palaces, golf courses and swimming pools with giant waterslides.
They appear to show that the country’s secretive elite, who sparked a fresh nuclear crisis last week by test firing an atomic device, live in circumstances more appropriate to residents of Beverley Hills than leaders of the world’s last Stalinist state.
The privileges of Pyongyang’s select few are unheard of for most ordinary citizens in North Korea, whose government’s disastrous economic polices have left millions reliant on foriegn food aid handouts.”

Speedy,
That comment regarding Stephan Lewis really brings to mind John Kennedy’s famous speech in Berlin, “Ich bin ein Berliner” I am a Berliner… is nothing the left loves originally theirs?
Speedy, you’re right, this topic has been discussed by several African leaders about how aid has made them a beggar society. One from Kenya lamented about how shipments of free clothing from the west and free food has destroyed their textile and farming industry as how can they compete with “free”. Stephen Lewis and his ilk never see the damage that they do with our money, true socialist mentality.
Jackie Mason destroyed his career as a young comedian one night on the Ed Sullivan Show. I happened to have watched that show as young kid.
Ed said something then turned away and Jackie flipped him the finger right on live nation wide TV.
That was the last time anyone saw Jackie Mason for decades. I suspect his migration to England was due to his banning in America.
Anyone?
Today we can officially tuck Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth(?)” into the category of science fiction.
We were treated to 2-3 inches of the white stuff this morning.

Even more creepy news about the recent politicization of — attacks on — formerly non-partisan federal public institutions and services: ACORN, the activist group whose subsidiary organizations have engaged in voter extortion of businesses, racketeering, theft, and voter registration fraud, will be partnering up with the U.S. Census Bureau to work on the 2010 Census. Anyone who’s aware of ACORN and who has watched the behaviour of this administration at the edges will find this unsettling.
According to judicialwatch.org, Census Bureau has given ACORN “the opportunity to ‘recruit Census workers.'” In this capacity as executive partner, “ACORN has the ability to ‘organize and/or serve as a member on a Complete Count Committee,’ which ‘helps ‘develop and implement locally based outreach and recruitment campaigns.'”
“Census data is used to allocate $300 billion in federal funds. Census data also determines how many seats each state will have in the House of Representatives as well as the redistricting of state legislatures, county and city councils, and voting districts.”
http://www.judicialwatch.org/news/2009/may/judicial-watch-obtains-obama-commerce-department-documents-detailing-acorn-partnership
Anita MonCrief (anitamoncrief.blogspot.com) notes that “Not only will ACORN have access to personal information of Americans, but this info may be distributed to others.” That, in a nutshell, is the essence of the problem. MonCrief draws our attention to an ACORN document that says: “With a common voter file, ACORN will: Coordinate voter outreach and mobilization work with other progressive organizations to maximize the power of our resources….With a voter file, we will be able to target the neighborhoods we work in most effectively, with a particular eye on…neighborhoods likely to be supportive of our issues, but where extra voter education and mobilization work would have a dramatic impact on turnout in strategically chosen legislative and congressional races. Using precinct walk lists…the canvasser knows if the resident is registered, how often the resident has voted in past elections, the resident’s name, and other demographic data that helps them to tailor the canvass message to the individual. In addition, we will be able to take the voter information gathered from this mass canvass and add it to the voter file in order to enhance the work of partnering progressive organizations.”
In other words, citizens’ responses to the federal census, a census which they are required by law to respond to, will be used to “enhance the work of…progressive organizations.”
“Project Vote proposes the creation of a List Acquisition and Enhancement program…with a strategic plan to build and maintain statewide voter files in targeted states. The file would be hosted by a non-510c3…” (i.e. non tax-exempt charitable organization) “…entity to allow for maximum usage of the data by progressive organizations. The development files will include acquisition of voter data, enhancements with demographic and consumer data where appropriate, and the long-term maintenance of the file which gives our organizations a better understanding of the electorate.”
One internal ACORN document makes reference to a particular Governor’s seat that will be open in 2010, and says “We…need to be a player in this race. We need to raise money for our political work…based on the redistricting that will happen in our state following the 2010 census.”

No, Hello Birdy, that’s not correct. Indeed, Mr. Sullivan later apologized, on his show, to Mr. Mason. Furthermore, Mr. Mason did not migrate to the U.K., and he was not banned from the U.S.A. In fact, if you had simply bothered to pick the Jackie Mason link I first posted supra, you could have saved yourself the embarassment of spreading false information in public.
I loved Jackie’s bit at the very end about manners – how the Yanks are so rude on the street in day-to-day life and so reverential in the House and Senate, whereas the Brits will apologize to the truck that just hit them but Prime Minister’s Question Time is like feeding time at the piranha tank.
My caveat being that the Brits are largely feral these days.
Hello Birdy: According to Wikipedia the Ed Sullivan thing was a big misunderstanding.
I’d love Jackie Mason anyway, but it’s heartening to know that he’s slightly to the right of Dick Cheney on most issues.
“Michael has become convinced that his nose is going to fall off,” a friend is said to have told the newspaper. http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/story/0,28383,25560545-10388,00.html This comes up right after someone says ” Alex,I’ll take ‘strange Jacksons’ for $200″.

Organised crime brings fear to Vancouver’s streets
From the comments:
….Today in the downtown eastside of Vancouver it is welfare day. The streets are buzzing with addicts on every corner, and in every alley there are smiles everywhere as people line up to cash their welfare checks at the many different financial institutions… Money is being spent on many different things, but the main expenditure on this the most joyful day of the month is drugs; heroin, crack or cocaine, alcohol etc. Although this has been going on for years and is accepted by not only the city, the police, the taxpayers, and the government….. I as a citizen of this city have had enough! Do I care? You bet I do! I myself have recovered from 25 years of addiction and today have been clean for some seven years. What I saw today was to me the last straw….

“PM says they will be able to seek compensation from individuals, organizations and foreign states that support terrorism.”
“Harper: Terror victims will be able to sue in Canadian courts
Terrorism victims will soon be able to use Canadian courts to sue the perpetrators, Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced today in Toronto.
Speaking at a Canadian Jewish Congress 90th anniversary luncheon in Toronto, Mr. Harper said legislation will be introduced this week by Public Safety Minister Peter Van Loan “to enable victims of terrorism to seek justice” and compensation from individuals, organizations and foreign states that support terrorism.
The new law will amend the State Immunity Act, Mr. Harper said, as a sold-out crowd of several hundred rose in a standing ovation.
Mr. Harper made his remarks moments after he became the first Canadian prime minister to receive the congress’s Saul Hayes Human Rights Award. Mr. Hayes, who died in 1980, served as national executive director of the congress from 1942 to 1959.
While introducing the award, Elizabeth Wolfe, a congress official, quoted extensively from previous statements by Mr. Harper, decrying anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial.
“These are the words of a true defender of human rights,” Ms. Wolfe said.
Mr. Harper, in his acceptance remarks, said he is “very troubled” that criticism of Israeli government actions in the Middle East “has become an intellectually respectable cover for anti-Semitic discourse.”
He further criticized the “doublespeak” of political opponents who say they support Israel and then denounce it for defending itself when “attacked for the umpteenth time” by anti-Israel militants.”

I didn’t say he was banned from America, just from performing on TV and wherever else big Ed had influence and he did have influence.
I also said I suspect – (which means not sure) his move to the UK .. where he said he had great success.
I don’t believe what I read on Wikipedia because everyone knows that the information is regularly tampered with by pretty much anyone who wants to take the time.
I also asked for input on this by placing the word ‘anyone’ at the end of my comment. That meant I was willing to stand corrected.
You jumped at the chance to trash me for merely putting up some information as I understood.
You are an asshole.
I neglected to mention that my last comment was directed and Vitruvius.
Absolutely disgusting puff piece “The mellowing of Algonso Gagliano” on page A3 of today’s (Montreal) Gazette. Has to be read to be believed.
Gagliano says he is not bitter about the past.
Well, we the taxpayers are, especially as we wonder how much of his 36 hectare vineyard in the Eastern Townships he purchased last August was paid for by ill-gotten gains.
I guess we will wait til hell freezes over for such a nice picture in the Gazette of a tanned, relaxed Mulroney with beaming wife and dog. Not to mention an article which shows him sighing contentedly, “like a man who has realized his dream”.
If that’s the case, Hello Birdy,
I fart in your general direction.
Further to the Mason thing. I read the Wikki report and that is not how I remember ‘seeing it’. But I saw it a very long time ago.
Consider, what is on wikki is the story 40 years after the lawyers, agents, managers and the Jewish community were finished massaging it. Has anyone heard about what lawyers can do to facts? How payoffs can change minds etc.?
I am Jackie Mason fan. Most of the very best stand up comedians were Jews. They also pretty much gave us Hollywood before it became a peanut gallery of the left. Everyone knows what Jews have contributed to music and medicine and science and …. but sadly … banking as it is today.
Nevertheless, when one is talking about distant past events, there is bound to be differing opinions on what really happened.
Wouldn’t you agree Vitruvius? Or have I embarrassed myself in asking the question?
Thanks for the Monty Python clip, it show me what a child you are.
GG Jean’s partaking of the northern delicacy raw seal heart is still causing aftershocks in politically correct circles.
one thing puzzles me; the wide consensus is this was a very Canadian thing she did, the windfalls include jabbing PETA & the EU in the eye and a wee bit of soverienty assertion.
why then, does the caustic right wing find no good in this great lady’s actions, all based on, what, the fact she was born in Haiti or sumptin? is the canuckistan right wing soooooo americanized even a truly well meaning action like this garners no applause whatsoever from that wacko fringe?
next !!!
Actually, huntergatherer, I think the GG has gotten quite a bit of kudos on this blog for that. Not that SDA constitutes the “wacko fringe” – or does it?
p.s. The Neolithic Revolution’s gonna rock your world!
It’s a rare delight to listen to the CBC’s Cross Country Checkup this afternoon. Even though CBC Radio 1 and this show generally appeals to the Left and Far Left, 100% of the callers so far have been vehemently IN SUPPORT of the Governor General re the seal eating story.
This goes to confirm what I had long thought: PETA and their ilk are small-minded bigots. In this case they fit the textbook definition of racists.
I would agree, Hello Birdy. Now you’re contributing. What pisses me off is irresponsible comments on Kate’s dime. But now that you are being responsible, and now knowing how you feel about this, you may want to check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borscht_belt, which has useful links to Alan King, Al Bernie, Allan Sherman, Betty Garrett, Bill Dana, Buddy Hackett, Carl Reiner, Danny Kaye, Don Rickles, Estelle Getty, Freddie Roman, George Burns, George Gobel, Henny Youngman, Jack Carter, Jack E. But then lying is a big part of your Leftist mantra, isn’t it?!

The sad part is, he probably works for the CBC.
If you don’t mind, Robert, you don’t know his mother, ergo,
I don’t think you should run around disparaging her like that.
Vitru, good point!
Vitru? Cool. Nobody’s ever misspelt my name that way before.
Grandma Obama: Liar, Liar pants on fire!
Remember angry Grandma? The one who last year was saying she didn’t appreciate the “rumors” being spread about her step-grandson, Barack Obama, namely that he is secretly a Muslim? “Untruths are told that don’t have anything to do with what Barack is about. I am very against it,” Sarah Obama said.
Something else she said at the time was that she too was a Christian.
Well that seems to have changed, or been a lie. In a report earlier this month, WND has her as a known Muslim:
President Barack Obama’s paternal grandmother, Sarah Obama, will reportedly perform the Muslim Hajj pilgrimage this year along with her son Syeed Obama.
A private Kenyan television channel, quoted extensively by the Kenyan and Pakistani media, reported Sarah Obama and her son will also visit Dubai before going to Saudi Arabia for performing Hajj. The pair lives in Kenya.
More at: http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/
I’m a bit thick, Revnant Dream, so please try to help me out here. What does President Obama’s step-grandmother’s christianity, and her relationship to her muslim son, have to do with who and/or what President Obama is? Look, honey, I don’t like him as president of the United States of America either, but if you’re going to insist on running around making poor arguments against him, people are just going to hold it against you. I advise against going there. But then, that’s probably just because I’ve been working on tonight’s SDA LNR for the last few hours, and, well, let’s just wait and see what it advises, it’s only three hours away now 😉
Vitruvius, your use of the term “honey” makes me think you’re of the female persuasion. True?
If so, that would make an interesting trilogy: Kate, ET, and you!
Not at all, Robert, as Hello Birdy noted, I’m of the asshole persuasion.
Ummm, I think that “Hello Birdy” has been eating some strange birdseed!
I note that someone has arranged for George Tiller to have a face-to-face meeting with God so he can be judged. Don’t much like his prospects.

“Muslims want tangible change on Mideast from Obama
Associated Press ^ | May 31, 2009 | HADEEL AL-SHALCHI and KARIN LAUB
CAIRO, Egypt – Respect for Islam, a prescription for Palestinian statehood and assurances of a speedy U.S. pullout from Iraq — that’s what Muslims from Morocco to Malaysia say they want to hear from President Barack Obama this week when he addresses them from this Arab capital.
His speech Thursday from Cairo University will try to soften the fury toward the United States among so many of the world’s 1.5 billion Muslims, ignited by the U.S. occupation of Iraq and the hands-off attitude toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict of his predecessor George W. Bush.
Obama’s offer of a new beginning is seen as an attempt to stem the growing influence of extremists — particularly Iran, with its regional and nuclear ambitions — and to bolster moderate Muslim allies.”

“Israel holds biggest civil defense drill in state history
Haaretz ^ | 31/05/2009 | Barak Ravid
A five-day civil defense exercise, simulating an attack on the country, started on Sunday. Named Turning Point 3, the drills will be the most extensive ever held and practice new measures to safeguard civilians.
On Tuesday the exercise will spread nationwide and include emergency sirens and air-raid shelters.
The cabinet held a special session Sunday on moves during an attack; the ministries will then open their emergency headquarters to rehearse various scenarios.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told cabinet ministers during the briefing that the drill was a “routine” procedure and not directed against any regional entity in particular. …”
