Y2Kyoto: "YOU WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO CHECK THEIR NUMBERS!"

Franklin Expedition - The Next Generation, continued... "A pioneering scientific expedition to help determine the lifespan of the Arctic Ocean's sea ice cover"

Hot on the heels of the discovery that "live from the ice" biotelemetry data hosted on the Catlin Arctic Survey website was entirely fraudulent - a fact that wasn't admitted until they were caught red-handed, this enlightening update from the official AGW cheerleaders at the BBC;

After enduring ferocious weather, it has emerged that British explorers studying the Arctic are struggling with a series of technical problems.

A portable radar device, known as Sprite, designed to make millions of measurements of the ice thickness has been dogged by breakdowns and uncertainties.

The problem hasn't stopped NASA from publishing their "data".

Another instrument, SeaCat, meant to measure the temperature and salinity of the water beneath the ice-cap, has malfunctioned as well.

The expedition's organisers insist that other research - such as regular drilling through the ice - has meanwhile been carried out successfully.

[...]

So with the team's early progress anyway hampered by the weather, the Sprite only gathered data over a total period of seven hours of trekking in the expedition's first 18 days.

These equipment failures remained unmentioned on the Catlin Ice Survey website until just a few hours ago. It was edited in real time as the crew at Watts Up With That were digging through their files.

But you have to admire their resolve. If you've ever gone camping at even near freezing temperatures, you know how cold it is trying to get into stiff clothes in the morning. So cold you can see your breath.

nobreath2.jpg

So, imagine how you'd fog over standing in an ice field, in the dark, with the bright light of a camera shining on every word...

nobreath1.jpg

No, I don't know what that means. It's just damned interesting.

Here's something else that's interesting. Recall the side by side polar ice photos I display here from time to time, showing the arctic cap much larger in relation to last year -

Well, no longer. Cryosphere Today "can't" provide new images for 2009.

That would be a censor...er, sensor, problem.

Kate, don't fret. When they faked the moon landing there were similar "issues" which were later explained away. And now it's history.

Everybody knows that is was faked and a big PR event trumped up because the Americans were afraid of Sputnik and had to make a splash to cover up JFKs alien heritage (not to mention winning the world's attention, hearts and minds for "First Man on the Moon" - chuckle).

Sheesh!

After 27 years in the Army enduring many, many morning like that at minus 40 or even colder, I think I can say that these folks fit nicely in a comment made by an old Sergeant-Major of mine who told me, "any fool can freeze to death. The real trick is staying warm." They look a bit amateurish to me, the frozen clothing thing means they aren't looking after their kit properly. Maybe they should've taken northern indoctrination with the Innu Rangers.

i went hiking with Chief Heat-Least Moon
never again...
i was freezing...
all i wanted was a hug...
but noooooo...

I don't know how you can believe these photos when Sean Penn, Alec Baldwin, and Prez Bambam have all told us that the ice cap is shrinking. Who are you going to believe - these demi-gods or your lying eyes?!

Thank you for exposing these frauds.

It's easy to tell that "global warming" is a fraud. Just follow the money! (and the political favours) It's hugely in the interest of those establishment figures promoting the scam to keep it going, and no-one is allowed by the establishment to express any opposition to it.

Taken together, those two points seem like a litmus test for a fraud.

They let their clothes freeze???? These maroons deserve what they get. Hope they martyr themselves for Gaia. Plus Darwin will be happy...heh. AND..... 3 less evil human carbon footprints.Win-win.And before any leftie AGW cultist starts...sympathy for stupidity is in the dictionary between shit and syphillis.

But they had their snow suits done by some fashion designer in London.

"So what are you wearing"

"Versace of course"

And the greatest fraud of our time,

will be allowed to continue by a complicit media.

There's something frightening about the notion that the media is fully in the disinformation business for the left.

Then again, its always darkest before the dawn, and with the pace at which old media is dying off, it looks to be a bright, bright sun shiny day!

With Prince Ears of Inbredia sponsoring the expedition, no one should have expected anything else than the kind of farce which can only be cooked up by an idle, imbecilic, infantile silver spoon idiot of Chuckie's magnitude. Can Justin Trudeau be far behind?

Have a look at the daily sea ice site and set the right hand date to April 2008 and look at the difference - amazing. If the results were reversed I might say maybe there is global warming, but not from what is seen here. Ice age anyone?

Yes Global Warming...its reasuring to know that future generations will spend good money studying the cultist beliefs of early second millenium man...Viewing us as the quaint test tube specimens that we rightfully are.
I can just see it now as future academics ponder whether or not to place AWG under anthropology or junk science.
Somewhere up there with the flat world theory...blood letting as a cure for illness, the inquisition,or perhaps personal hygene is not advised as one could catch a chill and perish.

Simon, that is exactly what sill happen, and the MSM that so ardently supported this scam so they could sell news to morons will skulk away and come back with an even bigger non-threat to our planet! The Coming Ice Age in Equador by Paul Erlich adviser to the Obamarama administration, or Earth out of Balance because of to many badgers on one side of the earth by Algore, or Swindling School Kids by Suzuker, it will happen.

the cryo site is interesting. Compare the 1980 map to the 2008 map. 2008 looks like an iceage in comparison

Here's a great one to try:

Dec.31: 1980 vs 2008.

[ The SSMI images for many days in 2009 were bad enough that we removed them from this comparison display ]

Bad ? As in lotsa ice !?

From the BBC
"I understand that on the fifth day in these conditions, one of the radar system's cables simply snapped. On the ninth day it became clear that this had led to all the cables breaking.
So with the team's early progress anyway hampered by the weather, the Sprite only gathered data over a total period of seven hours of trekking in the expedition's first 18 days."

I'm no BBC editor or even a NASSA scientist , so how do they figure "18 days", of production if all the cables broke on the ninth day.

Peter at,

You caused me to spew coffee. :0)

>>Yes Global Warming...its reassuring to know that future generations will spend good money studying the cultist beliefs of early second millenium man...

Yes, people in the early 22nd Century will have a great laugh looking back at us, just as we have a good laugh looking back at the idiosyncrasies of the Victorian era a century ago;
Global Warming Hysteria, Same Sex Marriage, Gaia Worship, International Talk Like a Pirate Day, etc.

One would think that any day now, Mrs Gore or Mrs Hansen will hold a news conference -

"It is with a heavy heart that I am today, telling the world that I do not and have not ever agreed with my husband's GW fetish. I am, also, willing to sit as a witness for the prosecution in any fraud suit that may be forthcoming. Thank you."

Well, heh, they say that behind every man there is a strong woman !!

I have heard a rumour that this is already being closely studied as anthropology.....it is too profound a phenomina to be ignored.....the BS campaign that is.........
Another set are studying how OWE got elected....

Hey, how can ice melt when it's as cold there as it obviously is??? Yeah, I know, I know... I'm being Captain Obvious again... But I do want to help out the lurking moonbats who won't get it without help.

Funny how all their equipment except a drill "malfunctioned". Maybe they're lying 'cause maybe it worked perfectly, but returned what they considered "inconvenient truth" to them and to Al Gore, so, knowing they couldn't win, they decided to sweep the pieces off the board, pretending to do it by accident, so as to avoid having to admit that the ice cap is growing, not shrinking, like they're supposed to be finding, but aren't.

Does that help, all ye lurking moonbats? When they don't like the data they get, they pretend they didn't get any at all. Interesting change from just making it up, deliberately incorrectly setting up its gathering (to get more of the kind of data they wanted) or manipulating it via a cleverly-designed software program...

Looks like the dog ate their homework again, eh!

They're still out there? Weren't they running out of food 18 days into a 100 day journey?

You can manipulate the URL to see up to date images. Change "2008" at the end of the string in your address bar to "2009" for example.

The site hasn't been updated to include 2009 in the code. Or, it was reverted to cover for the suspected bad imagery.

"Nasif Nahle (07:42:38) :

Harold Ambler (04:56:50):

From your article:

“What has been said and is, as you I am sure aware pretty obvious, they are constantly battling hypothermia.”

Harold, that man, Pen, is showing lethal hypothermia. It is not possible for a human being to tolerate an inner body’s temperature below 35 °C. Pen’s scans show always

I have never said the whole thing is a hoax. But I sustain that biologically, based on the data from Catlin website, those people must be dead. Another alternative is that they are in another warm location and those biotelemetry data were invented, which, even if they were on the Arctic, makes it a hoax."

The race to the Pole is on.
Mush.
…-

$ Mr Powell is keen to hear from anybody who wishes to sponsor him, be it individuals, or corporate sponsors.

Call him on 01706 217 865. $

“Helmshore dad-of-two to ski across the Arctic

9:28am Thursday 19th February 2009″

” Mr Powell, who runs Holden Vale Hotel, Holcombe Road, will start official preparations on April 9 in Longyearbyen, Norway, before being air- lifted to the Borneo Ice Station on April 16.

Their team will then set out for the Pole. Working with dog teams along the way, in temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius, the aim is to reach the North Pole around 12 days later.

The expedition is being organised by a team in the USA, and Mr Powell will meet up with the only other UK participant when he starts the trek in the spring. ”"

The most interesting point Kate made was ...

Where is the steaming breath in that -40 temperature during that idiot's blurb about the ice cracking around him?

I grew up in norther Ontario and I know what -40 is like. You see your breath all the time.

I think this whole thing is some kind of scam. Where did he record that clip?

If you look at the frozen clothing video, everytime the Martin lifts his arm, he hits the top of the tent and a little bit sky can be seen over his left shoulder. It is especially pronounced between 1:19 and 1:20, but it actually happens several times, very quickly. What kind of tent is that where the top is not connected to the sides?

Thank you signaler222 for the hint on how to see extent of sea ice yesterday. The comparison between 1980 and 2009 is very striking. I remember well the panic that took place in 1980 when the arctic sea ice disappeared and the polar bears all drowned. Right now it looks like we are getting back to normal conditions and we should see the evacuation of Winnipeg starting in about 5 years as the ice sheets grind their way southward.

You may still be able to get the Cryosphere comparisons. Just load a 2007 to 2008 comparison, then go to the address bar and change the years by hand and reload. When I did that I got a set of pictures that claimed to compare 2008 to 2009.

try this

These bloody limeys are engaged in nothing but PR exercises. Arctic research is a fairly routine matter. The Canadian government even maintains a support organisation, the Polar Continental Shelf Project [OK, I am not sure if the PCSP is still functional, but it does still exist] to facilitate Arctic research. It does, or did, maintain facilities at Resolute - a base, air support, etc. Take a look on Wikipedia re Canadian gov't research.

Did those goddamn supercilious ignorant bloody limeys obtain a permit from Indian and Northern Affairs for their work?!? If not, is the Canadian gov't going to put them in jail (sorry, limeys spell that "gaol")??!?

To hell with 2009. This tells what's really going on:

http://igloo.atmos.uiuc.edu/cgi-bin/test/print.sh?fm=04&fd=09&fy=1980&sm=04&sd=09&sy=2008

And it ain't Global Warming!

Mean while in a television studio in downtown London three goofs pretend that they are trudging across the Arctic ice only days away from starvation. The BBC breathlessly covers their every invented turn - I wonder if they can get sunburn from the studio lights?

what sport evelyn waugh would have had at the expense of these glowball worming/cooling climate changers....anyone who has read 'scoop' and remembers the reporter being outfitted for his trip to deepest darkest will appreciate what satiric potential therein resides when reporting on the inspiration, outfitting and experiences of these 'innocents'....

"February 25, 2009 - The SSMI images for many days in 2009 were bad enough that we removed them from this comparison display (see note below and the NSIDC website). There is enough interest in these side-by-side comparison images that we will try to replace them with corresponding images from the AMSR-E sensor in the coming weeks.
February 17, 2009 - The SSMI sensor seems to be acting up and dropping data swaths from time to time in recent days. Missing swaths will appear on these images as missing data in the southern latitudes. If this persists for more than a few weeks, we will start to fill in these missing data swaths with the ice concentration from the previous day or switch over to the higher resolution AMSR-E sensor. Note - these missing swaths do not affect the timeseries or any other plots on the Cryosphere Today as they are comprised of moving composites of at least three days.
Historic snow cover data not displayed on these images. Sea ice concentrations less than 30% are not displayed in these images. Snow cover data is displayed only for most recent dates."

What bunch of bull$hit!!
These guys are laughable, no doubt about it.....

"I tell you, its Man-Bear-Pig! I'm thoopper therial!" - Al Gore (from South Park)

I live in the Canadian Arctic and the Catlin Expedition is legit…well by legit I mean they are actually on the ice in the Arctic Ocean. That being said the scientific community up here (the real scientists) refer to them as Edu-Tainers. The website is all the proof of the poof you need. In the end of the day, these guys (and gal) are really just adventures under the guise of research. When they do not reach their goal, they can blame global warming for their ultimate failure (talk about cover your ass when spending a couple of million of Catlin’s money). They just want bragging rights to say they were the first to reach the pole from a position on the Arctic Ocean as opposed to the usual route from Ward Hunt Island (on the top of Ellesmere Island). So this has nothing to do with research, it's all about 15 minutes of fame, and having their NASCAR winter jumpsuits pay for them to do it. (and I have nothing against NASACR)

As Bugs Bunny would say "they are such maroons". Seven hours of data and they can make a scientific statement as result of their research. WOW they must be graduates of the Harvard's School of Cold Kooks. Wonder what the scientific project will be next year - see if you can get a sunburn at the Equator without sunscreen?
