The world is being run by fools and your money;
Environmental goals require denial of reality. Under current state and federal law, hydropower captured [in Washington State] is not "renewable" even if it obviously is, because calling it what it is would counteract efforts to force the Northwest’s electric ratepayers to buy sources of energy in current environmental favor. These sources are notable for their expense and inefficiency, unlikely to attract much investment absent government mandates and subsidies.
It was in 2006 voters approved Initiative 937, which said that all Washington utilities with more than 25,000 customers must obtain 15 percent of their power from "renewable" sources by 2020. But "renewable" was given an intentionally narrow definition. Hydropower, which provides 70 percent of the state’s electricity, was deliberately excluded, except for a bit of added power obtained by recent improvements in dam equipment and operations. If the obviously renewable hydropower was included, then virtually every utility in the region would meet the renewable standard without trying. Since the purpose of the initiative was to force investment in windmills and solar panels, this would not do.
Watch for this to become a trend.

Yep. I'm still waiting for the Obama administration to announce billions in dollars for cold fusion research.
/sarcasm (not really)
Patrick Moore, co-founder of Greenpeace International, saw this coming a long time ago.
[ Not all my former colleagues saw things that way. They rejected consensus politics and sustainable development in favor of continued confrontation and ever-increasing extremism. They ushered in an era of zero tolerance and left-wing politics. Some of the features of this environmental extremism are:
Environmental extremists are anti-human. Humans are characterized as a cancer on the Earth. To quote eco-extremist Herb Hammond, "of all the components of the ecosystem, humans are the only ones we know to be completely optional". Isn't that a lovely thought?
They are anti-science and technology. All large machines are seen as inherently destructive and unnatural. Science is invoked to justify positions that have nothing to do with science. Unfounded opinion is accepted over demonstrated fact.
Environmental extremists are anti-trade, not just free trade but anti-trade in general. In the name of bioregionalism they would bring in an age of ultra-nationalist xenophobia. The original "Whole Earth" vision of one world family is lost in a hysterical campaign against globalization and free trade.
They are anti-business. All large corporations are depicted as inherently driven by greed and corruption. Profits are definitely not politically correct. The liberal democratic, market-based model is rejected even though no viable alternative is proposed to provide for the material needs of 6 billion people. As expressed by the Native Forest Network, "it is necessary to adopt a global phase out strategy of consumer based industrial capitalism." I think they mean civilization.
And they are just plain anti-civilization. In the final analysis, eco- extremists project a naive vision of returning to the supposedly utopian existence in the garden of Eden, conveniently forgetting that in the old days people lived to an average age of 35, and there were no dentists. In their Brave New World there will be no more chemicals, no more airplanes, and certainly no more polyester suits.] PM
And no more hydro electricity - because Gore and Suzuki and Hansen and all their sheep have all their money in windmills ? And solar panels ? And biofuels ? And no job and no employment resume if Kyoto collapses ?

Any bets on when the first windmill or solar panel array will be blown up in protest of this global theft of our money?
If the political tables were turned it would have already happened.
I have noticed lately - global warmongering is receiving a lot of attention. Mostly negative.
Here at sda, a quick count of all posts, so far in the month of April;
Out of a total of 114 posts, 13 were on global warming. Almost 10% !!
At first glance it would seem AGW should not deserve this amount of attention - considering all the other major issues of the day.
IMO, it reflects the world coming to realize that AGW is a lightening rod. The best example the world has of a fraud taken to unbelievable heights by the latte-left and a compliant media.
I think it is also striking, how here, at sda, most of the staunch Y2Kyoto supporters have apparently given up on the scam.
B. Hoax Aware
slightly OT but worth a mention...I have just re-read Rush Limbaugh's 1993 book "See I Told You So" and everything he says about Clinton and the Dems you can clearly see today...times trillions of dollars. Slick Willy had nothing compared to the Obamamessiah.
"Renewable" is passé termonology in Eco-fasvist lexicon. The replacement meme is "sustainability"
Sustainability carries with a far greater concocted urgency than mere "renewability". Renewable is too optomistic and the new eco=fascist trend is towards dooms day evangelizing which caries the urgency for us to surrender our privacy, property, freedom, and lives to resource regulators. ( I heard the term "water foot print" used this week in condemning individual's over consumption of the life fluid...as if it was non renewable)
Yeah, sustainability is the ticket to building the global governing model in the soviet commissariat model.
Ron; even the local Green party/ndpee nut in our local paper has moved on, This SCAM is over, it has wasted trillions and the pathetic media that has aided and abetted, along with the Suzookies/Gores/Hansens have over and over been exposed as charlatans, rich charlatans, and we know what everyone wants to do to the RICH. Fraud charges against people who take 750 dollars from school children in Calgary right up to the phoney winner of Nobel and Oscars for outright lies on film. Keep goin broke you media morons, you deserve it. Every day is earth day you ecofools, stop using all the fruits of conservatives labor, then spout your s..t.
Here is BC we are 90% Hydro so the Gov could not tax it so instead they did this...
ICE Levy (Innovative Clean Energy Fund) on all bills, and then a Proposed $5.00 month Infrastructure rebuilding fee to pay for upgrades and turbine replacements, AND, Running power lines to Renewable PPP projects.
The 300 Million a year that the Government has been taking off-the-top of BC Hydro for 30+ years apparently cannot be used to repair the company's infrastructure or fund the companies partnership initiatives, go Crown Corps.
When it comes to the alternative sources of electric generation I think the old addage "follow the money" describes very well what is going on here. Entrepreneurs of all types see opportunities to get rich by developing and selling all sorts of things, whether we need them or not, especially if they can create mass public hysteria that the sky is falling. It is truly unfortunate that our leaders aren't able to step back from the rhetoric and analyze the facts. Of course, as we know, only rarely do politicians have an original thought.
Hydro being excluded from the list of renewables is a ridiculous and blatant attempt at influencing public opinion toward the boutique generation options. The problem is, we need industrial strength options when it comes to electricity generation to make society run.
From today's Gartman Letter:
NEXT IT WILL BE OXYGEN: Apparently few others have taken this as seriously as have we, but
we though the EPA’s decision last week to call carbon dioxide a “danger to human health and welfare” a leap of environmentalism that is far, far too far. The EPA, under the always dangerous Ms. Browner, has chosen to call CO2 “greenhouse gas”… and please remember, water vapor is a greenhouse gas too…. and thus has succeeded in having it put upon a list of gases that must be controlled lest “human health and welfare” be jeopardized. This is the sort of a left-ofcentre,
goofy environmentalism that the country does
not need as it tries to bring itself out of the recession.
CO2 is the end result of plant photosynthesis; it is the end result of breathing; it is the end result of a myriad number of chemical processes… and the EPA now wants to classify it as a danger to human life. This is environmentalism run amuck; this is a reason why share prices came under pressure Monday and may continue to come under pressure henceforth for government here in the US has become the enemy of capitalism.
President Reagan taught us that that some of the most fearsome words in the English language
were “I’m from the government and I’m here to help you.” Now that is to be amended to: “I’m from the government and I’m here to shut you down.”
An old movie from the 80's comes to mind when we're posting about this eco-cr*p. I think it was called "The Tin Men" starring Danny Devito. About selling rural people tin siding for their homes. (Like selling refrigerators to the Eskimos.)
You must admit getting people to pay to see your sales pitch, A Convenient Lie, was brilliant.
I'm still going with T, Boone, buying GE.
RON
I've been saying for some time now that everyday people are not buying this BS. I don't hear any one whose not on a blog, TV or the radio supporting the AGW cause. AGW is politically driven; and, there is a consensus amongst our leaders in Canada and the US that a price MUST be put on Carbon. IMO the reason this can happen is because most people don't know they’re getting fleeced, most people don’t know this is a politically driven agenda. Most people think the proponents of fighting AGW are well intentioned, and harmless. Most of all, most people think that “the system” is indestructible and nothing they do can actually harm their personal lifestyles.
Sorry folks; it's case closed. It doesn't matter if we are right or not, Carbon rationing is here and I don't think it's going anywhere, regardless of the science or what people think. When the "green bubble" eventually pops, billions(maybe trillions) of dollars(wealth) will be eviscerated; then, average people will take a close look and will realize that the emperor has no cloths. Mark my words, when this day comes, our politicians will tell us that we can't afford to eliminate the taxes on Carbon, the government can't afford to lose the revenue.
Lessons: Taxes are necessary, but we need to have as few of them as we can, say one. If all taxes are collected as one lump sum, say ‘x’ percent; then the politicians are accountable. They can raise the tax, lower the tax or not touch it. People will know if the tax goes up or down and vote accordingly. As it stands right now our politicians rob Peter to pay Paul. For example, Obama campaigned on a tax cut for 95% of the people, then printed over a trillion dollars. Judging by his budget this is just the beginning.
Taxes are the issue conservatives must win on, especially in the US. We need creative solutions that are simple. We need more leaders like Huckabee promoting a complete tax overhaul.
oops, typo. It should say:
"will realize that the Emperor has no *clothes*"
I just got off the elevator at the office and the headline on the TV screen in the elevator said "Millions celebrating earth day worldwide"
What's earth day?
Where are these millions of celebrators?
Nothing going on in downtown Toronto..
Socialism is cannibalism.

"Ad campaign asks youth to 'recycle' their organs
CTV.ca - 3 hours ago
The Trillium Gift of Life Network has launched a provocative new campaign aimed at getting young people to consider the ultimate act of recycling: organ donation"
I remember listening to a prof. talking about Co2 and global warming. His coments were, that years ago we had much higher Co2 levels, and that it was a huge bonous plants grew better ect. It also protected us, when the sun went into a "cooling cycle like it is now." His reacerach showed that the problems are not too much Co2 but too little.
He also said this could create global famine.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it David Suzuki.
