Who Is This "John Galt"?

And why do people keep talking about him?

There are several assumption built into [US government] projections of the deficits that are coming. Here’s a little secret that only you and I share: the deficits will be much, much bigger than current projections.

The numbers are off not because projected spending is going to be bigger than advertised, in fact it may not be possible for the feds to spend money as fast as they would like.

Deficit projections are low because tax revenues are going to plummet.

(Speaking of Obama New Deal politics ... Warren, did you manage to set up that Ignatieff - Barney Frank photo-op for us?)

Update: or just photoshop him into this one.

I'm re-reading Atlas Shrugged right now, and man, is it ever eerily similar to the stuff that's going on in Obamaland.

I'm trying to figure out, though, if Frank is Tinky Holloway or Cuffy Meigs or someone else.

Iggy was dropping names this morning saying he has access to O any time he wants. His college buddy Summers has fallen asleep a couple of times while POTUS is speaking but I haven't heard him snore yet. Then there is his other bud Barney.

This is news? This is basic math.

Unfortunately, lefties will never get the fact that you can actually increase tax revenues by decreasing taxes. This is done in the private sector ALL THE TIME. Of course politicians have little understanding of how the private sector works, they just get jealous whenever an entrepreneur prices her/his product at a level that maximizes revenues.

Yukon Gold, Cuffy has half a brain, albeit a sinister one. Definitely not Barney. I don't think that Rand could have conceived that a human as depraved as Barney would have even existed in her time 50 years ago.

I am just going to casually throw out that "Going Galt" demonstrably exists right now in our universal health care system. If they are ever serious about addressing health care concerns, such as reducing wait times, then they must start by recognizing that doctors own their skills, experience, talent, and most importantly, their brains. As soon as they get their own choices back (to be a private provider or a public one), then you'll see health care services recover.

I'm already *Galted*. Unless I were to win the state lottery I have myself in the position to pay no more taxes, except for sales tax and land taxes.

Now I wait to see how the 95% of the US taxpayers react to their "promised" tax cuts.

Now I wait to see how the population reacts to *torture* show trials.

Now I wait to see if Obama has invited another successful terrorist attack on the US.

My need for firearms and ammo are taken care of, except for the gun show I'm off to tomorrow... :-)

Canned goods, paper goods, medical supplies and water stocks in order.

Own water well. Surrounded by my own 200 acres. Healthy herd of deer (government beef). Game birds and fish easily at hand.

Forty five miles from the nearest decent sized town and 500 miles from the large cities.

So now I sit, and observe, and wait.

So, the Cooked Cat Man's political strategy is to set up Ignatieff as best pal of Obama and buddy of all the current Democrat Backroom boys.

This may backfire, as people in Canada become worried about Obama's reckless spending and his throwing America to the wolves.

Canadians may show their support for 'any nation weaker than the US' but only when they are assured that these nations are actually weaker.

If they see that the US is becoming weakened and that these former hapless innocents are becoming stronger, their 'support the victim' sophistry will rapidly fade.

Obama needs the show trials in an attempt to distract the American public from his pantywaist socialist ponzi scheme budget.

As Obammasiah's policies kill the US economy, he will get ever more desperate. He's a pure narcissist, but even narcissists want to fell some love.

From Pajamas Media: If spending continues at the rate seen during this [fiscal] year’s first six months, the government will exceed last year’s outlays on July 6.

"“Shariah goes to Harvard
Washington Times ^ | April 24, 2009 | Diana West

What do Pakistan’s Swat Valley and Harvard University have in common Their leading Islamic authorities uphold the Shariah (Islamic law) tradition of punishing those who leave Islam with death. There are differences, of course…Shariah actually rules the Swat Valley, while Shariah’s traditions, as promulgated by Harvard Muslim chaplain Taha Abdul-Basser, retain a more or less theoretical caste. In a recently publicized e-mail, Mr. Abdul-Basser approvingly explained to a student the traditional Islamic practice of executing converts from Islam.

As the chaplain put it: “There is great wisdom (hikma) associated with the established and preserved position (capital punishment), and so, even if it makes some uncomfortable in the face of the hegemonic modern human-rights discourse, one should not dismiss it out of hand.”

Certainly, one should not dismiss Abdul-Basser out of hand - or the chilling implications of what it means to have a religious leader at Harvard validate the ultimate act of Islamic religious persecution. But dismissing - or, rather, ignoring - this controversy is precisely what Harvard is doing…”

What pisses me off is that O'Reilly seems to just now be cluing into the big picture. He has shown an extreme lack of good sense regarding Obama. He would constantly refer to Obama's answers in their interview as gospel. During the primaries BO lied about what he had previously said at least twice that I can think of; therefore, BO should never have been given the benefit of the doubt. Everything he says should be, and should have been treated as suspect because of the pre-established pattern of lies.

Ayn Rand is what dumb people read to feel smart.

I urge all of you goofs to go Galt. As soon as possible, please.

Would that be the same Iggy who penned this juvenile missive on citizenship?

anon, you spineless ^&%$%,

where are you going to do your looting when everyone "goes Galt"?

Yet another lefty that has never read Rand.

Ayn Rand is what dumb people read to feel smart.

I urge all of you goofs to go Galt. As soon as possible, please.

So what do lefties read to make them so smug-yet-ignorant? Open Veins?

Barney in bed with "Fannie Mae"? Shouldn't that be "Freddie Mac"??? nudge nudge - wink wink.

is that 'no teeth' look on Barney supposed to be sexy? In his world it probably is.

Momar:

Can you say "gum job"?

The perfect picture of moral disapation. The mad clown who thinks their King.

Big O'Reilly fan here, but I agree with you IH. I'm not even sure Bill is completely cluing in yet, although he's making progress. Giving the benefit of the doubt, and being fair are one thing, but Obama past his best before date long before the November election.

I'm still amazed at the big Zero's approval ratings, although am somewhat buoyed by what appears to be Blue Republicans and Indies fleeing the sinking ship Obama in droves.

Don't dump Bill O! He is at least the guy who will continue to take the Lefties to task for their sh_t. If he comes up short some times - well - so do we in our jobs. His heart is in the right place. Hang in there gang!

Speedy: Re:"Iggy was dropping names this morning saying he has access to O any time he wants. His college buddy Summers has fallen asleep a couple of times while POTUS is speaking but I haven't heard him snore yet. Then there is his other bud Barney."

You know, there was a time not very long ago when Canadians would have been very offended by this type of coziness to the U.S. How time have changed -- like in six months. Makes Canadians (at least as presented by MSM) look a bit superficial and hypocritical.

I was going to make a comment about Barney Frank, but "a different bob" beat me to it.

I have heard that Frank was involved with a bill to soften the ban on Internet gambling, so he can't be all bad.

anon: "Ayn Rand is what dumb people read to feel smart." Not really. Rand is a kind of cultural touchstone. She presents ideas in an engaging way, (She is an excellent writer -- just read her lectures on writing!)such that we are either drawn in or repelled. Probably also different reactions at different stages in life. I am amazed at how she endures -- I recently went to get my hard drive repaired and found two of her books sitting around in the office of the techie I was dealing with. You may not agree with her, but her thoughts are very relevant to today's world, and I think everyone should be familiar with her work.

If nothing else the way in which her perspective is indicative of aspects of social history is important. Her experience in the Soviet Union strongly informed her views. McGill rejected tons of money offered to establish an Ayn Rand "chair" -- I suspect because they thought she was a lightweight. They were wrong. The rejection makes them look ossified and narrow-minded. Hopefully some other institution will see the wisdom in treating her works seriously. Her books so speak to our times. I think it is unfortunate for any young person to miss reading them. And yes, disagree if you will -- but the books are an invitation to think about important issues.

What the Obama and the Democratic leadership is engaged in is populism pure and simple. That their course will ultimately end in a economic train wreck is certain. I doubt they believe any different.

Sadly I believe Yoop is on the right track what is their end game?

"Ayn Rand is what dumb people read to feel smart."

Calling conservatives dumb is what liberals do to feel smart. Arguing ideas, on the other hand, leaves liberals feeling stupid, angry, and confused. That is why conservatives are quickly banned from most liberal web sites.

Definition of Red Star Editor's Dilemma: deciding which one of Barney Frank's lies to publish.

Ayn Rand is Great but 'difficult' for some readers (she uses a lot of four syllable words to deter lower IQ's, IMO) a well known writer named Taylor Caldwell wrote for the rest of us - "Captains and Kings" and "Pillar of Iron" - does what Rand does - INFORM - in regular English. "Captains and Kings" is about a President of U.S.A. (some say it is John Kennedy); "A Pillar of Iron" is about the magnificent senator, Cicero (in that 'other' great Republic, Rome). The latter is written from the documents kept by Cicero who staved off the death of the Republic of Rome for a few years; after Cicero it descended into despotism as will the U.S.A. - if the people don't wake up! The circumstances are eerily the same.

Another great author, strangely ignored by 'activist' black outfits is Frank Yarby. Yarby wrote "The Foxes of Harrow" (about the Civil War in U.S.A - from the side of the South), "I, Judas", "The Sarsythian Blade" (about Islam in the Middle Ages)...funny how the left never reads anything but recent propaganda pamphlets that are dull as oatmeal porridge without salt.

Sorry, that should be "Judas, My Brother", Cauldwell wrote, "I, Judas".

Good suggestions, Jema54. I also like Sinclair Lewis, Upton Sinclair, and Theodore Dreiser (my favaourite!).

I think Barney Frank was in bed with Freddie Mac instead of Fannie Mae.
