The Sound Of Settled Science

The Australian;

The results of ice-core drilling and sea ice monitoring indicate there is no large-scale melting of ice over most of Antarctica, although experts are concerned at ice losses on the continent's western coast.

Antarctica has 90 per cent of the Earth's ice and 80 per cent of its fresh water. Extensive melting of Antarctic ice sheets would be required to raise sea levels substantially, and ice is melting in parts of west Antarctica. The destabilisation of the Wilkins ice shelf generated international headlines this month.

However, the picture is very different in east Antarctica, which includes the territory claimed by Australia.

East Antarctica is four times the size of west Antarctica and parts of it are cooling. The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research report prepared for last week's meeting of Antarctic Treaty nations in Washington noted the South Pole had shown "significant cooling in recent decades".

[...]

Ice core drilling in the fast ice off Australia's Davis Station in East Antarctica by the Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems Co-Operative Research Centre shows that last year, the ice had a maximum thickness of 1.89m, its densest in 10 years. The average thickness of the ice at Davis since the 1950s is 1.67m.

A paper to be published soon by the British Antarctic Survey in the journal Geophysical Research Letters is expected to confirm that over the past 30 years, the area of sea ice around the continent has expanded.

But never you mind, silly little deniers. Real scientists know that freezing is just another worrying sign of temperature escalation.

They probably aren't doing the cores sampleing right, lets send the Gorical down there to make sure.

I'm sure now that winter is kicking in at the south pole, we'll have a hard time going back to pick him up.

Wouldn't that be poetic justice, him freezing to death.

Any phrase such as "scientists are concerned ..." tends to raise hackles. The primary function of science is to observe, test, explain, understand, and not be emotional about it. I will make a small exception for those studying pathogens which have the possibility of becoming epidemic. For the rest, the media can shove it.

From the Arctic North Pole to the Antarctic South Pole an Iron Curtain/Berlin Wall is descending.

The reason: To keep you in the dark/to keep you away from the ice caps.

The Red-Green agenda advances.

Canada's Lieberal STOPIGGY* is part/parcel of the unhidden conspiracy; a conspiracy in the open.

"Nations set new tourism limits for Antarctica
By MATTHEW LEE - Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON -- Countries with interests in Antarctica have endorsed U.S.-proposed mandatory limits on Antarctic tourism that aim to protect the continent's fragile environment, officials said Friday.

At the conclusion of a two-week meeting in Baltimore, Md., the parties to the 50-year-old Antarctic Treaty agreed to impose binding restrictions on the size of cruise ships that land passengers there and the number of people they can bring ashore at any one time, the officials said. The move mandates, under international law, current voluntary limits.

The changes will become legally binding once each of the 28 nations that have signed the treaty ratify them. The revisions were adopted by consensus with no opposition and no hurdles to ratification are expected, said Evan Bloom, the head of the U.S. delegation."

"Ignatieff wants North Pole to be international park
7 Apr 2009 ... Canada should push for the creation of an international park that would protect the area around the North Pole, Liberal Leader Michael ...

Meanwhile,

another year of global warming here in Winnipeg: Mid April and its barely above freezing, after a four months long deep freeze.

Rhetorical question to the AGW crowd:

Is there a single region in N. America that has experienced the type of increased warming that was predicted a decade ago? A single one?

When I complain about the cold to AGW cultists, they invariably say: "it doesn't work that way, just because its cold here doesn't mean its not warming globally."

True enough, but it must be warming at least SOMEWHERE, to have, you know, global warming.

That's generally when the AGW cultist shakes their head, walking away as if the infusion of such logic were the rantings of a mad person.

Way.To.Go!
Make a park out of and protect a remote patch of frozen water. Those Liberals are geniuses, or something.

"""Those Liberals are geniuses, or something.""""

I'll go with the , or something, on this one:-)))))

Biff, you have to start asking the alarmists where the cold air to set new record low temps is coming from.

After all, if it global warming, all the air should be getting warmer not colder.
And definitely not setting new record lows.

Unless of course, that there is a limitless supply of cold air that comes and goes over the decades.

Thinking about the enormous amounts of heat energy required to melt polar ice at 32f degrees has given me some comfort but now I learn that polar ice formation is increasing. That means heat is leaving the freezing water and moving elsewhere by air and water currents and WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE!
Oh the humanity, frying to death as the global warming horrible iceberg monsters come ever closer!

WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE!

"Antarctica has 90 per cent of the Earth's ice and 80 per cent of its fresh water."

Wait a second. When I was a kid, I remember learning that the Great Lakes hold 40% of the Earth's fresh water. If Antarctica has 80%...

Good point bryceman 11:26 PM.

In addition, I don't view ice as water, especially after this winter.

It's the lack of sunspots that is making the earth cool down, less solar energy hitting the earth is causing the big chill.

Ahhhhhhh! Climate change, climate change! hahahahaha

it snowed today in Winnipeg...... that's April 19th.

SNOW.
