The Sound Of Settled Science

"2008 was a bear. There were no sunspots observed on 266 of the year’s 366 days (73%). To find a year with more blank suns, you have to go all the way back to 1913, which had 311 spotless days: plot. Prompted by these numbers, some observers suggested that the solar cycle had hit bottom in 2008.

Maybe not."

I think this is a job for Icarus.

Isn't a solar minimum worth an "Ignoble" prize for the Goracle?

Weaker solar wind means we need some 10 million SPF skin lotion for our summer fun vacations. Grease up ladies and gentlemen.

Looks like a blow out for the "cap n trade" carbon market. Now where did that flag go bearing the Jolly Roger?

So now the stock market is tracking the sunspot cycle? Oh how clever the Goracle must be.

Icarus recommends carnuba wax for those GM, Ford and Chrysler wings. Wax on, wax off or maybe it is wax and wane.

But hey Daedalus is still flying!

"Nature, not just man, to blame for global warming: scientists

So, we'll need to harvest many more of those seals for fur coats, especially when all those evil oil-fired and coal-fired anti-Gaia electric plants are shut down. Hunters, prepare your weapons! Furriers, stand by your sewing machines!

I'm amazed that the same reaction that keeps the sun hot is what keeps a nuclear reactor alive and "HOT." I'm also amazed that when a guy and/or a gal are suntanning in the nude, the same radiation that comes off the sun can cause the same effect as radiation that comes off an unprotected reactor. If we're not afraid of suntanning in the nude, why are we so afraid of nuclear devices? Conclusion: Some people are bothered by the "raise."

The solar site below keeps on changing the history of their predictions. They have been adjusting their predictions for years now. They predicted that the minimum would be in 2006 but it wasn't.

Kate, this is but one of the items recently in the news that shows the cracks in the facade of this "settled science" are widening into fissures and the whole works will soon crumble to bits. Here's a couple more:

These are the top sentences from the lead story in today's Ottawa Citizen (until now a paper devoted to the AGW cause):

"It's wrong to blame our warming climate on human pollution alone, says a major analysis by U.S. climate scientists who say North America's warming and drying trend also has important natural causes. Natural shifts in ocean currents have caused much of the warming in recent decades, and almost all of the droughts, says the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Most climate researchers today deal exclusively with man-made "greenhouse" gases, and often dismiss suggestions of naturally caused warming as unscientific."

And this item on the web site IceCap is about dissenting scientists taking issue with one of Obama's statements:

On November 19, 2008,Obama said, “Few challenges facing America and the world are more urgent than combating climate change. The science is beyond dispute and the facts are clear.”

The letter signed by aobut 100 scientists stated: "With all due respect Mr. President, that is not true. We, the undersigned scientists, maintain that the case for alarm regarding climate change is grossly overstated. Surface temperature changes over the past century have been episodic and modest and there has been no net global warming for over a decade now."

Icecap notes that many of the scientists are current and former UN IPCC reviewers and some have reversed their views on man-made warming and are now skeptical. Also note Nobel Laureate for Physics Dr. Ivar Giaever signed. Giaever endorsed Obama for President in an October 29, 2008 letter.

Wonder when the Goreacle will have to hand back his Nobel and both he and Dr. Fruit Fly will be charged with fraud.

It's perfectly obvious to me why we can't see enough sunspots. They've simply migrated to the far side.

The upside to this is that it may be possible to get the global warming crowd to start spending their time staring at the sun, instead of being shrill and annoying.

the fact that the sun is at some kind of "major minimum" doesn't disprove global warming. The fact that the minimum has apparently, by all observations, swamped the "all powerful" CO2 warming and even reversed it a bit says that maybe CO2 warming is not as severe as certain politicians let on.

Warmies will talk you blue in the face as to how minor variations in the sun are to climate. Then I guess CO2 is even more minor.

This is now the religion of AGW-Gaia: farce.

Farce by the farceurs in the frozen Arctic.

With the right security clearance you could win yourself a Darwin Award.

I do believe that there was a significant solar eruption this week!
