Survey Says: Canadians Remain Stubbornly Canadian

"Liberal Values Are Canadian Values" VS "My Own Lyin' Eyes".

There's still hope for this country.

Well, barely. Canadians will say this stuff anonymously, but nothing will change until they get up the nerve to say it aloud.

Alas, so many rely upon the P.C. State for (what's left of) their paycheques, they're obliged to stay quiet.

Loved Shaidle's post!

There is definitely still hope for this country, but Harper and Iggy aren't a very inspiring lot.

So glad Kenney is in charge of immigration, but he should be PM!

Farber .... sheesh!

Do these MSMers have any updates in their rolodex?

What difference does it make anyway?
The LIB rag runs a poll in search of an 'Issue' to report on.... gets an unpleasant reality check instead of the answer they wanted ... proceeds to dredge up a left wing archetype to lecture us all.

Time for these dirtbags to answer for the damage they've done in the name of their distorted world view.

With respect Kathy I don't care what they say as long as they remember when they vote. You are doing a great job in not letting it be swept under the asphalt.

You are dead-on, Kathy. Sends chills up my spine, it is so true here in the maritimes.

This restores my faith. Until now I've had no idea what most others think because in my neck of the woods no one dares talk about this kind of thing, certainly not at work, certainly not with the neighbours.

I have to say that Jay's words match my recent feelings about Toronto; it has changed so much in the past few years, I feel like a stranger.

Oh, and note to Kathy: the Mexicans HAVE shown up. Or at least in Mississauga there's a sizable and growing Latino contingent. I can't go a day without hearing Spanish being spoken, which for me is a good thing because I'm trying to learn the language.

They're in a race with the Muslims to see who will soon own Mississauga - I'm hoping for the Latinos but am pessimistic because of their late start.

These opinions are downright un-Canadian. Expect Farber, Grenville, Whyte et al to be clamouring and lobbying for re-education camps to be set up in our school systems to ensure that the next generation will not be prone to such disturbing thoughts. Oh wait....never mind.

...Whyte says the Angus Reid poll shows "an unhealthily low level of tolerance toward immigrant communities in Canada..."
Whyte is shaming Canadians for not being more open minded and submissive.

Let's have fun with this quote...and make it more truthy...

An unhealthily low level of tolerance is shown by immigrants toward Canada.

Classic Shaidle! It was an honour to meet her and BCF this w/e in North Bay.
I have spoken to many who were there that were shocked by the actions of HRC's.They have depended too much on MSM.We are working on getting them on to the internet.

"26% believe Sikhism encourages violence. I think that's pretty low, considering all male Sikhs claim it is their religious duty to carry knives. Oh, and then there's this..."

yay, Shaidle. Thank you for revealing the depth of your intellectual curiousity.

Do you know why Sikhs were asked to carry knives? To protect themselves from your favorite whipping boys - the Muslims. Did you know three of the nine Sikh Gurus died through public execution?

The other thing that, of course, there's no reason you would know, is that Sikhs are from Punjab. Punjabis as a whole have a reputation for being aggressive. Its for a very simple reason. When you look at a map of India - which you have probably never done, there are very few entry points to India. To the South of Punjab is a desert. To the north are the HImalayas (those tall mountains of Everest fame). When the Islamic invasions came rolling in, they inevitably came through fertile Punjab. How else do you keep an army fed?

Does Sikhism encourage violence? Some strands think so. Oddly enough, they're all in Canada now. Don't hear of much Sikh terrorism in India anymore. There was some about a decade or two back. Then the Indian intelligence agencies started taking them out abroad. The Germans aren't too pleased. The Canadians won't even admit is happening.

Oh, and I'm not a Sikh.

Nice to meet you too, Bluetech.

That audience was uncharacteristically quiet, so I wasn't sure how it went until I got the standing ovation. I guess some folks were just stunned.

The internet is the key. It sounds so corny but there is nothing to 'learning' it and people will have a whole new world opened to them that the MSM doesn't dare report on.

Once you get older folks on the web, they realize how easy it is and wish they'd been on sooner.

I will alway's be against mass immigration from disfuctional non democratic countries i refuse to accept those people who want to try to turn my country into there's ...they are more than welcome to coem to my country and learn our way's here and work and pay taxes like we all do ...but when i pay taxes for my neightbour who looks at me everyday like i am an infidel who need's to be beheaded or enslaved like i am lucky to be paying for his food like i should bow down to him like obama did on his way to pick up his welfare check i have a huge friken problem and if this country / govornment deosn't start protecting it's REAL citizens i will be happy to relocate to austrailia where there prime minister is not afraid to call out islamic terrorist's or aisian racist's who hate white people and target white people for "hate crimes" ohh wait hate crimes only apply to white people sorry ...uhmm anyway i will be happy to go there it will be a very very sad day for me if and when i have to relocate my family from a country that as of right now would fight and die to protect ....to another that will stand up for my democratic right's as well as my human right's iti s my beleif that a samalian is more than welcomed here in my eye's so long as they have the drive and the ambition to strive and contribute positivley to seociety i would be proud to defend that person however if that same somalian comes her with the knowledge of free welfare free health care free free free and all they want to do is screw the system by dealing drug's in between making babies and beating there wife i would also like to reserve the right to boot that &oth^r f*ck*r right back to where ever they came from as a duty to my fellow citizen and coutnry...peace !!!

Paul. D calgary!

Kathy,

I am from North Bay but left there long ago. I did contact those I still know there and encouraged to go see you. Some did. I wish I could have been there myself.

North Bay is the home of Mike Harris, Ontario's best premier ever. It's not the backwater it appears to be. It's 'Hoser' country so it's a bit deceiving.

Well I'm just shocked; I tell you shocked. Shocked to the core. I didn't believe it when Harry Dent said in a seminar that the new generation was conservative but the pre-teens he was talking about are now voting adults. Be still my beating heart.

Kate--

As someone who has always loved Canada (and most Canadians, for that matter), let me just say that I'm glad Canada is still Canada.

Didn't you once write something to the effect that Canada might one day become a refuge for those Americans who are fleeing Obammunism?

The Great White North is looking better all the time, if y'all could just deport those folks who earlier fled the "wrath" of "Chimpy McBu$Hitler."

well h!ll, I'll just take off my wooden shoes and......what do you canadians wear anyway????

yup, you move to a country and embrace it, and if not, go back home were your customs already exist

I was shocked at the Post article a few weeks back about how the Liberals appointed a supporter of Hamas and Hezbolla to the immigration review board to soley decide on behalf of Canada which refugees and immigrants to Canada from 1994-2005.

A supporter of two terrorist organizations speaking on behalf of Canada.

Most average Canadians don't know this stuff.

This is WRONG and I think more people should speak up.

I like it, I really like it. At least MacLeans had the guts to publish the results, rather than hide it.

KATE: Slightly off topic...

WARNING!!!
re: young offenders.....CAUGHT, thank god!
Lac La Biche Alberta

I'd give their names, but by court day monday there'd be a publication ban... Maybe I can update tomorrow, if permitted.
Any way two little $hits were spotted, by a wary neighbor breaking into a friend of mine's house, and heading down the sidewalk. Stolen liquor, a WII-FIT, games, jewellery, and....two teddy bears!

TRUE, I saw them!!

When confronted later by the homeowner, they were sorry, even while they were dumping the illicit goods. Cops came, charges,... the shot...This was at 12:30 or so midday.
The mother apparently was NOT prepared to bail these creeps, but at midnite, the sperm donor father obtained their release. Next chapter will be monday, at their arraignment.Same old, same old, I know.

Also,a locally known member of some sort of....kiddy-school gang is connected. You can be sure, armed with the perps names, a VERY close eye will be on these individuals.

Common theme here seems to be the single mothers, cannot supply sufficient D-I-S-C-I-P-L-I-N-E.

The kids have no boundaries.

This time of year, here is still lots of darkness, and I suspect the ghost of discipline past, will be paying some domiciles... a visit.......
Spare the rod...spoil the child! What a brilliant golden rule!!

THE golden rule, as far as my own kids went.
Stay tuned...

I was watching TVO's The Agenda this evening, they had a show about dual citizenship, and I could not believe how many of the "panel" argued in favour of dual citizenship, which was initially allowed in 1977. I think it's appalling that any developed country should allow citizens to vote in 2 nations.

I would agree with most of the posters, and the survey in general, that speaking out against immigration policies, and religious/national sects of our wonderful country, results in one immediately being branded a racist. I'm sure some Liberals are already branding Kathy as such.

I think most of us know at least one Muslim or Sikh immigrant, who is a responsible contributor to Canadian society. However it is the abusers whom we more frequently remember, because we hate what they do (collect pension, health care, or resort to criminal activity) NOT what religion/country they represent.

"So does Andrew Grenville, the Angus Reid guy. "This runs counter to all we espouse," wails Grenville, presumably after cashing his hefty cheque."

Well so much for the charade that polling firms aren't themselves biased. Scratch Angus Reid off the list.....and as for MacLeans, I cancelled my subscription today.

Again, the Australians have the right idea. Since 2007, any visa entrant, any potential immigrant, must read and sign a document that declares their acceptance of 'Australian values':

These include a democracy, commitment to the rule of law, equality of men and women, freedom of speech, etc etc..oh..and the English language.

We should do the same here. If you want to come to stay in this country, then, you abide by our way of life.

On polls like this, here's the split here in Canada and in America as well:

"Does the government got what it takes, or will the government take everything you've got?"

P.S. The quote's not mine but I think it's brilliant & beautiful.

Yours truly was par of the survey and contributed to the positive outcome.
Many years ago, have come to this country from the geohart© of Europe.

Dave in Miss said "..I could not believe how many of the "panel" argued in favour of dual citizenship, which was initially allowed in 1977".

I became a Canadian citizen in 1977 after 20 years in the country. I have a Canadian passport and a European Community passport now. (both expired)My family and I have been paying Canadian taxes for over 50 years. Just about all of the people I grew up with have dual citizenship as I grew up in a "new" immigrant area. Polish, Italian, Scottish, Irish, Ukrainian, Portuguese, etc. I would think these were the people they had in mind when the came up with the dual citizenship laws. People who worked hard and made Canada home and assimilated into Canadian society but made the occasional trip home. These dual citizenship laws never too into account that we'd have the Pali's, Tamils, Samolies, and various Muslim extremist groups abusing it like they are. I don't think the law itself is what's wrong here but the immigration system that let these people into Canada and become citizens of convenience.

I agree you shouldn't vote in two countries. You shouldn't grow up in Canada and play hockey for Germany. Or grow up in England and play soccer for Ireland. Or grow up in Jamaica and run in the Olympics for Canada. Or grow up in Russia and be a stripper in Canada.

The belief that Canadians are one of the most tolerant and accepting people in the world is well founded, and people are right to believe it. Unfortunately for the Liberal Party and Macleans Magazine, what they define as "Tolerance" is really naivety and what they define as "Acceptance" is really stupidity ...

I'd take a million (or 10 million) mexicans over any of those 'people' from that piece of desert across the pond.

Just watched Russel Peters, the fact that he can pack a house tells me that most people aren't Liberal down deep.

Most Canadians have a pretty mature view that it doesn't matter what you look like, or what you sound like.

What matters is how you behave. Culture, in other words.

why are we happy about this?
Based on your numbers almost 38% of Canadians think laws and norms should be modified. And 55% of Canadians think mainstream Islam does not encourage violence. The fact is the politcally correct leftist haters of Canadian culture and values have managed to convince a lot of Canadians this whole multicultural rubbish is valid.

Kathy is not alone in her feelings and opinions. Many of us share them. When she got a standing ovation in North Bay that pretty well illustrates how Canadians really are. I have lived in this country since 1960, coming from a southern state to live in Toronto. I have learned over the years that Canadians are quiet, stick to their own thoughts mostly and definitely in a public forum.
When they hear what they think, as Kathy evidently did in her speech in North Bay they recognize a kindred soul and applaud it ( in Kathy's case a standing ovation). The Trudeau years were so damaging to democracy in Canada but most folks carried on as best we could with the restrictions and restraints and the West has a case for malcontent far more that Quebec does ( don't get me started on Quebec's federal representation in Parliament, geez!)
But when Canadians hear what I am sure Kathy had to say in her down to earth, no nonsense way they heard what most politicans never say: What real Canadians think: tired of being told WE have to accept the cultures of those who come here from other countries ala Trudeau rather than those immigrants embracing and assimilating. We have had our pride of place and culture trodden on by our very media and politicians as has been illustrated in the posts so far. I LOVE Jason Kenny and frankly I love Stephen Harper. I believe he is very smart, steady, even , strong and we are lucky to have him. God Forbid Icky gets any clue how to Obamacize this country any more than Trudeau hasn't already softened us to.
The Liberal Scandals put a dent in the liberal brand they have not recovered from as yet. By the time Obama gets through with the US they are going to look like a raw piece of over tenderized meat left out in the sun too long. Come to think of it looking at Icky's face reminds me of just THAT. Bottom line: Kathy , you done good , girl.
If you got a North Bay crowd to get up on their feet for a standing ovation you were recognized as a woman who is true to real Canadian values. And that is saying a whole lot these days!

"Well, barely. Canadians will say this stuff anonymously, but nothing will change until they get up the nerve to say it aloud."-KS.--- How true. I voice my opinions on this matter, and others,at work, and people just shut up,except for a few who attempt to correct me with the usual pap.I am the resident knuckle-dragging,homophobic,racist who makes people uncomfortable.Yet,invariably, someone will come up to me later and say they agree.I tell them to speak up,but they won't because they see and hear the crap I put up with on a daily basis. This is the result of years of neutering by the social surgeons.

And while I am at it, I think Kathy would be much better on TV. God knows the CBC could use some real talent and CTV has lost Mike Duffy. Lloyd Robertson and Robert Fife make me sick to my stomach they are so partisan. And that Hebert dame is out of her mind. That 'Is it time for Harper's walk in the Snow' BS made me want to puke. If anybody needs a walk in the snow it is that bunch from Quebec the Bloc...oh, and throw in Taliban Jack on that little tootle in the flakes.

What will all the 'newcomers' do when Canada finally runs our money to give them and the rest of us refuse to hand over any more of what's left of our money? And what if they still refuse to become working Canadians? You know, like the rest of us who are paying the shot for all this multi cult horse shit.

Rush was/is right - conservatives - conscious and unconscious - are the majority. What needs to be done is to have the conscious ones to actively and persistently explain what conservatives believe and stand for to those who do not know. We need to understand that people are not born conservative nor are they aware what conservatism is - that's something polling would show pretty decisively.

So get out there and spread the word - just don't be a jerk about it.

as far as the late teens and early twenties demographic......I have noticed they seem much less tolerant than myself.
Taking into account I have spent many years abroad in various societies aside...
.......what I detect is a backlash against the enforced PC atmosphere in the schools. This is enhanced by how minority kids have abused this to abuse the "canadian kids"....a double standard.

You know that really IS the point isn't it? The point that Rush makes that conservatives are the real majority. Why, THEN are the libs in the US and Canada ( until recently) RUNNING things. They bully, lie, cheat, steal, punch, jab and hog the airwaves everywhere until no one can get in a word edgewise. And THAT is the problem. We have let them get away with this (as a fellow thinker above just said) HorseSh*t! From Perez Hilton , Icky and the HRC they have been bullying conservatives for far too long. You see anybody out in the streets over people dying all over the word because of hateful and evil despots? Why no, there is NO Bush in the White House now to march against. It is just plain idiocy. I believe that Rush is also right when he says that Conservatives are the grownups and usually are busy with working and making a living and raising their families, paying taxes, creating businesses while the children that are the libs run around running amok screaming at the top of their lungs. For far too long we have patted them on their pointed little heads and told them to go away. We can ill afford that attitude. We see all too clearly where that got us: Obama and Citizen Armies. Time to stand up and let Freedom Ring. I hope it jars more than a few jugheads in Congress and Parliament.

*
gotta love the timing on this one... what with the supremes
saying the government has to bring poor omar home.

*

Thank god I'm not alone. Wait. I already knew that...I speak my mind to everyone I meet and I have yet to encounter someone who is happy to accommodate other people's cultures in OUR OWN COUNTRY. How it can be considered racist to want to preserve one's amazing way of life is beyond me. The silent majority has spoken once again.

An Angus Reid poll finds that 62% of Canadians say "laws and norms should not be modified to accommodate minorities." Then a guy from Angus Reid says, "This runs counter to all we espouse."

Yes, that's right: what we espouse as Canadians runs counter to what we espouse as Canadians.

I guess it's back to the drawing board for the Great Planners who have better things in mind for us than, er, us.

I'm as skeptical as the next person when it comes to so-called "accommodation", which I think is part of the vast left-wing plot to disrupt our society.

However, I don't have any animus regarding immigration, as I think most human beings are pretty much cut from the same cloth, and it's the false ideologies that cause problems rather than different races or whatever. I know people from Somalia, Haiti, the Philippines and various places and they're good guys, intelligent, funny and more or less "Canadianized". No problem.

To Snowbunnie et al: Let me expand further on what you're saying and get your thoughts . . .

The entire gay marriage issue is a perfect example of how the Left changes society via what Mark Steyn calls the "Drip, Drip, Drip" of slow, incremental change.

I've long felt that:
- Gay couples should have the same financial benefits as heterosexual couples
- Gay marriage is a minor issue for me, personally
- If I was given the chance to vote on it, I would vote 'No'
- I am not homophobic
- I do not hate gay people
- My reasons are not based at all on religion

I don't know what the polls revealed in Canada when the laws were changed here but I am confident that the majority of Americans today would vote 'No' to gay marriage.

Realizing this, what do members of the Left do? They ridicule and mock anyone who believes that marriage laws should not be changed. They even have no hesitation calling anyone who disagrees with them the modern day equivalent of a racist.

This is done at beauty pageants, on entertainment shows, on news shows, in newspaper & magazine articles, and in the political & legal arenas as well. The messages are three-fold:

1. We will publicly label you a bigot if you dare to disagree with us.
2. The scarlet letter on your forehead will be an "R", because we will loudly make the case that you are the modern-day equivalent of a Racist.
3. We have control of most of the media outlets in the country and you do not.

So what happens? True debate is silenced; not just a little but absolutely. Average people, knowing that there's nothing to be gained from expressing their opinions and so much to lose, shut their mouths and get on with their lives. Furthermore, the change of marriage definitions does not actually directly & immediately affect their own lives so what's to be gained by expending a lot of energy fighting such an issue?

Most people then, do the logical thing and get on with their lives, working hard and paying the taxes that ironically will contribute to the next social change down the road that the same taxpayer will also disagree with! And on & on it goes, like a snowball rolling down a hill.

The problem though is this: In the long term, are these incremental changes healthy for our society? I don't particularly want to get slammed for my thoughts about whether there's a causality between promotion of gay marriage and a longterm reduction in population replenishment, but I suspect it may very well be the case. (I can explain the logical connections if anyone wants.)

But after opposition to gay marriage is silenced, what do you think will be next? I predict that by no later than 2020, polygamy will be fully legal in Canada; soon after that in the U.S. Based on historical evidence, this will often mean 50+ year old men with multiple teenage wives. Is that a healthy thing for our society?

After the opposition to polygamy is silenced, what do you think will then be next? I have several suspicions but will leave it to you to come up with your own ideas of where things will likely head.

Thought for the day: Do liberal democratic societies like ours have a built in self-destruction mechanism? More precisely, if more & more rights are assigned to everyone, does that eventually cripple our society?

I agree with your posting, Robert W., wholeheartedly.

With the minor exception that I think that gays should be permitted civil unions...NOT "marriage"...civil unions. And all of the baggage that goes along with it, including alimony!

If and only if gays are in a public civil union, the surviving "spouse" should also get survivor benefits for insurance or whatever. Absolutely!

I have NO problem with homosexuals...as long as they keep it to themselves. I have NO problem with heterosexuals...as long as they keep it to themselves. I am REVOLTED by overt public displays of "affection" practiced by either homosexuals or heterosexuals...get a frickin' room! I am DISGUSTED by the thought of homosexual sex...but people can do whatever they want behind closed doors, so go for it.

Just DO NOT TELL ME that I HAVE to CELEBRATE it! I will tolerate it, but will NEVER CELEBRATE it. Gays have attempted to change the definition of tolerance to be that of celebration. Frack 'em!

Cultural norms and behaviors establish a framework for establishing trust - you know, the thing that commerce is based on? that delegating care, say, of a child to another, is based on? and so forth...

Trust is not legislated. Trust is not created in a court. Trust is not conveyed on a piece of paper. It is earned.

The Liberals would have us trust before trust is earned. That's just foolish. Why, we can't even trust the Liberals. Adscam. Reloscam. Where is the Tsunami money?

Robert W.: "I don't know what the polls revealed in Canada when the laws were changed here but I am confident that the majority of Americans today would vote 'No' to gay marriage."

Apparently, Robert, members of Parliament received an overwhelming number (hundreds of thousands) of letters and e-mails from Canadians before the vote here -- more than any other issue had elicited -- saying "no" to gay marriage.

What did the reigning Librano$ do? They ignored Canadians' wishes and brought the issue to a vote in the HOC. As we know, the "yes" option won by the narrowest of margins, even though it would appear that the vast majority of Canadians were against it. We know which way the leftards and the MSM wanted the vote to go, and they got their way by ramming this legislation through.

If this issue was ever allowed to go to a referendum, it's pretty clear that Canadians would vote the way the Americans did. Look at California!

Robert W.: "Do liberal democratic societies like ours have a built in self-destruction mechanism?"

Yes, and especially when one of the most prevalent characteristics of a "liberal democratic society" is secular humanism. Secular humanism is completely wrong about human nature. Secular humanists insist that we are all "good" and have the best of intentions for our fellow human beings and society, and as such, "equality" means that there is no difference between religions or cultures. There is no "good, better, best," just equality.

That view of human nature is completely erroneous and wrong-headed; just look what it's led to in the past century: the most horrendous loss of human freedom, dignity, and life in history.

If liberal democratic societies throw out, with gay abandon, the Judeo-Christian faith and values upon which their democracies were built, then, yes, they have built in a self-destruction mechanism.

And we're watching the self-destruction right before our eyes and seem very reluctant to diagnose the problem.

Next time some wise a$$ tells you that Canada should adapt to people coming over say this:

If a person leaves a tropical/sub-tropical country leaving everything he holds dear and moves thousands of miles away to country where the climate is brutal for six months of the year, where his education and professional experience are not recognized then there are only three possible reasons:
a) the place he has left is really awful; or
b) the place he is going to offers much more opportunities for him and his children; or
c) all of the above
There's a reason that Canada is a much better place than most countries in this world:
a) the rule of law;
b) freedom; and
c) capitalism (although people like us have to fight for this one)
Let's not change it to accommodate home-sick immigrants--remind them they voluntarily left their original countries and nobody here is stopping them from leaving.

~~favill~~

"It doesn't bother me," he shrugs. "Heck, I can hardly ... sneeze without being called a racist."

Jason Kenney on the challenges of the Immigration portfolio.

http://tinyurl.com/djaduu

Is there any other country in the world which throws open its borders to immigrants and refugees like Canada does? Is it because our health care system has so much unused capacity and there's so many good jobs waiting to be filled?

Kathy said: "Well, barely. Canadians will say this stuff anonymously, but nothing will change until they get up the nerve to say it aloud."

People don't talk about their religion around here either, but they still go to church Kathy.

Its no surprise that a majority agrees with you. One cannot witness the train-wreck which is Trudeaupian Canada without agreeing that its a catastrophe brought about by the stupidest "smart" people in the world. Like Bernie Farber.
