You would have loved to hear the radio program on CBC (Winnipeg) last night on "IDEAS", by Barbara Nichol (01 Apr 2009, 2000hrs). They held a panel discussion of 'experts' (I love the use of that word lately) wherein they shredded nursery rhyme characters and others.
The show was advertised as a "historical analysis of nursery rhymes". Since I had mentioned to my young daughter a number of times that many nursery rhymes were based on historical fact and were written as allegories of the events to prevent prosecution (I used different words with the child of course). Anyways, what was presented instead, was a panel of 'experts' that decided to do an analysis of all the failings and idiosyncrasies of the CHARACTERS themselves, such as;
- drug use
- ADD
-retardation
- homosexuality
- homophobia
- sadism
- pedophilia
and others.Humorous, if advertised as such and played at a later hour than 8 p.m. To an audience of sociological leftist misfits that find a reason to hate all things.
Not so funny when your daughter is waiting to hear where nursery rhymes came from.
I turned the program off when they called Santa Claus an ASSHOLE. My daughter is still crying.
To state MUCH later (after the program) that it was all fun and games for "April Fools" is too little too late, damage done.
I go to sleep tonight praying with all my heart that the Canadian Government removes ALL funding from this leech on Canadian society.

I am wishing the same thing Jeff and I have for many years. CBC yappers have the ability to defile anything decent that their filthy lips let spew from their nasty souls. They have never been a refection of the fine traditions and people that make Canadians proud, they have attempted (with success) to downgrade the heroic and to patronize the smutty/pathetic side of any generation, person or issue. I always feel dirty if I listen to a CBC station or read any of their drivel. I avoid their organization and all people who value their sanity should do like-wise. We have to keep an eye on them and come down hard on them for all the half lies and out and out lies they tell but we should take turns and only monitor them in small doses since that outfit can ruin any good day a person might be having.
Fire. Them. All. is the only solution. ASAP.
Anyone ever try to photoshop a moustache on Peter Mansbridge? Try it. I think I found Jack Layton's separated-at-birth twin.
Strange they should try this for an April fools joke: anyone knowing anything about the CBC would have assumed it was normal programming. There are academics who delight in these malign interpretations and the cbc is where they're heard.

As bad as it was for your Daughter this may be a good way to let her know how many false people are out their that hurt others with lies. Even through the venue it came from, at the expense of some of her innocence. By some bored dilatants.
Frankly the day they die as the socialist propaganda wing of the liberal party. Will be one of relief if not rejoicing for Canada ,rid at last of this depraved Medium. From the ceaseless deceit of the Media.
CBC = depraved
corrupted: showing great moral corruption or wickedness

You need to toughen your kids up a bit. If after a few minutes you were unable to tell that the discussion wasn't what you were hoping to share with your child, then turn it off.
Myself, I had a brother. If "Santa Clause is an ASSHOLE" was the worst I heard in a day, it was a good day. My DAD used to tell us that Santa was lactose intolerant and we probably killed him with the milk and cookies. He still laughs about that today. And still, I would classify my childhood as a great one.
Your poor kid will never survive recess if this is really that difficult.
I hope you do not mind but I used this in an e-mail to my MP and cc to PM Harper.... Please read the following that is from the blog Small Dead Animals from Saskatchewan. This kind of programing alone should be enough to stop funding the CBC. If they want to do this kind of stuff they should raise their own private funding April 2, 2009

This is good, but nothing beats what CBC had on the afternoon before the Kelowna fires a few years ago.
I talked to someone in Kelowna on that friday afternoon, and they said there were embers falling in their parking lot from the forest fires. I turned on CBC radio to see if they had anything on about the situation.
The program was about necrophilia. Typical light and enlightened banter about a perversity.
I wrote to National Post, they published the letter.
I no longer listen to CBC. I download podcasts from various sources and enjoy them during my work day.

I shouldn't respond to "coldcanadian" but I will this one time. Evidently my sheltered, weak-minded daughter is the problem and the CBC has every right to say whatever they wish on a public broadcast, funded by taxpayer money.
I should apparently toughen up my child to prepare her for the "evils" of life.
Hey, a few ideas immediately spring to mind.
When she gets home from school tomorrow, maybe I should punch her hard right in the face because, well, it could happen at recess...
Later, perhaps i should take her for a shower with me and show her what a "man" is all about. Then later, perhaps we should go driving to a few bars and drink tequila until I can't walk so I can show her the dangers of drinking and driving.
Yeah, that will teach her what life is about. That should take her stupid childish mind off of worrying about silly nursery rhymes.
Are you by chance a guidance councellor? Child Therapist? Sure wish you lived nearby so I could seek your council and discuss things IN PERSON.
All I can say is that anyone who would subject their child to CBC radio or TV programming should be prosecuted for child abuse.
Canada's Version of the Ant and Grasshopper
CLASSIC VERSION:
The ant works hard in the withering
heat all summer long, building his
house and laying up supplies for the
winter. The grasshopper thinks
he's a fool, and laughs and dances
and plays the summer away.
Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.
The shivering grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.
THE CANADIAN VERSION:
The ant works hard in the withering
heat all summer long, building his
house and laying up supplies for the
winter. The grasshopper thinks
he's a fool, and laughs and dances and
plays the summer away.
Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.
So far, so good, eh?
The shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others less fortunate, like him, are cold and starving.
The CBC shows up to provide live
coverage of the shivering grasshopper,
with cuts to a video of the ant in his
comfortable warm home with a
table laden with food. Canadians are stunned that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so while others have plenty.
The NDP, the CAW and the Coalition
Against Poverty demonstrate in front
of the ant's house. The CBC,
interrupting an Inuit cultural festival
special from Nunavut with breaking
news, broadcasts them singing "We Shall Overcome."
Jack Layton grants in an interview with
Mike Duffy that the ant has gotten rich off the backs of grasshoppers, and calls for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his "fair share".
In response to polls, the Liberal
Government drafts the Economic
Equity and Grasshopper
Anti-Discrimination Act, retroactive to the beginning of the summer.
The ant's taxes are reassessed, and he
is also fined for failing to hire grasshoppers as helpers.
Without enough money to pay both the
fine and his newly imposed retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government. The ant moves to the US and starts a successful agribiz company.
The CBC later shows the now fat grasshopper finishing up the last of the ant's food, though spring is still months away, while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around him because he hasn't bothered to maintain it.
Inadequate government funding is
blamed, Bob Rae is appointed to head a
commission of enquiry that will cost $10,000,000.
The grasshopper is soon dead of a drug
overdose, the Toronto Star
blames it on the obvious failure of
government to address the root causes of despair arising from social inequity.
The abandoned house is taken over by a
gang of immigrant spiders,
praised by the government for enriching
Canada's multicultural diversity, who
promptly set up a marijuana grow op and
terrorize the community.
THE END
I can't believe they made a mockery of ADD and retardation -- both of which are serious mental conditions. That strikes me as being in very poor taste.
Nevermind the content, how can anyone listen to that station with the lack of polished radio skills on display from the hosts? If I wanted to listen to somebody breathe loud and smack their lips when they talk, I'd visit my grandpa more.

I heard it, and it took me a few minutes to figure out the April 1st aspect
But it wasn't funny, really. And just too over the top - with its unpleasant and unamusing jokes about God
Years ago, Royal Canadian Air Farce (the radio show version) did a rather good spoof of "Ideas".
In a very good Lister Sinclair-like voice-over, the segment was opened thusly, "Welcome to Notions, the programme about thoughts too small to be ideas..."
It would appear that, once again, life imitates art.
rube...
hillarious...if it wasn't so darn close to reality!
Well, tonight CBC had on at 8pm a one hour show called...Porndemic.
Lets forget, for just a minute bashing the CBC - as I would continue to be right there bashing the CBC with you - but one thing is hitting me right between the eyes and I can't continue to ignore it.
Kate - why has this issue about Afghanistan passing this outrageous law which, among other incredible outrages, allows marital rape by the husband - in short, imposes radical Shariah Law on the people of that country.
My country, with my support, has sent our soldiers there to fight and die for ideals and values that we live every day in Canada. It is completely outrageous that the government of Afghanistan would enact legislation that would insult the sensibilities of every right-thinking Canadian - especially Canadian who have fought for freedom in that country.
I have supported our mission to fight the Taliban in that country but if the government there will enact laws that reflect the Taliban way of life then I say - lets get the hell out of there and let them live in their misery and ignorance.
Kate - why is this flying under your radar?
JJM, see http://tinyurl.com/clnj5h (Google search result featuring two "Notions" video clips - RealPlayer needed though).
"A different bob" I hear your point. When I read that story I thought to myself why on God's earth are our soldiers dying to help such barbarians.
It's like dragging a large block up a hill, and you know that the moment you let it go it will fall back to the bottom.
At what point do you say to hell with it.
" a different bob" I don't mind 'threadjacking' when it appropriately links to a topic but there are other means of bringing your displeasures to the host's attention. Kate does provide an email address on her homepage. Should you have an issue I suggest that is the best means of having it addressed.
Oh, btw, "Bob Devine", telling an OP, AFTER THE FACT you just sent their name and attached post to Parliament Hill and then asking if "they mind" is both discourteous and can easily get you banned from web-sites. It could also significantly piss off the OP. I'll let it slide this time but do not make this a habit, ASK FIRST please. J.
Hi. Vitruvius here. The new reader tips thread for
2009-04-03 was published a few minutes before the
comment by A Different Bob. Please take it over to
there folks, that's what that's for.
A different bob,
Sharia's got nothing to do with it - we had the same law in effect here in Canada, right up until 1983. Afghanistan's fledgling democracy is going to do things we don't like, and they're going to make mistakes, like we did. It would be a foolish mistake to insist and impose on the people of Afghanistan an adherence to Western ideals and standards of a pluralistic secular democracy, when they've had no history of such.
A Different Bob,
the Afghan women and girls are no better off if we leave.
YOU ARE OFF TOPIC: GO HERE
God said it best. The world belongs to the evil one-what does anyone expect when satan is in control? Come out of it. We are to pray that God's will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Christians are called to live a decidedly different life than the rest of the world. Our treasure is to be in heaven. We are to be light and love to others - light to shine in the darkness - yes that means shine a light on the dark things. and to preach the good news.
Lovely. Just lovely.
Thank you Jeff, but when you come out of the effects of whatever it is you have consumed maybe you would favor us all with an explanation of just what the hell you are talking about in the last half of your post.
Secondly, Jeff - please have enough respect for Kate to allow her the opportunity to respond to my question, if she cares to do so. Kate does not need to stoop to you for defense of any kind.
Your question is now being discussed here, Bob.
Sigh;
The second half of my last post was directed at the post by "Bob Devine" further up, hence the parenthesis surrounding his/her name.
The directive to not highjaack posts I believe was adequately handled by "Vitruvius".
Did this really require an explanation?
Is no one listening? They are only cutting 800 jobs out of 10,000.
That the Conservatives are not giving the CBC any additional funding is a hollow victory at best. Nothing will change until it is scrapped.
The fact remains that the Harper government has increased funding to the CBC, and while I'd rather have the Conservatives in power than the Liberals, I believe the Conservatives could be doing far more than they are when it comes to selling it or shutting it down. The amount of criticism small-c conservatives have faced from partisans for opposing Conservative pandering to the CBC and its liberal elitist base is astonishing.

Well if Dear Leader can make fun of 'Tards then I guess the CBC can too.
Hmmm, I thought Ideas came on at 9:05 pm. You're not bullshitting here, are you Jeff?
PiperPaul:
Many thanks! Yes, that's "Notions".
I see I misquoted the intro which is actually, "Welcome to Notions, the programme with topics not good enough to be ideas."
Even better!
...My CBC catharsis came some years ago (when the Mother corpse social pontifs were in the midst of pimping an alternate lifestyle craze)
My son and I were driving home from an day in cow town watching a Stamps game and some pizza at the chukie cheese...on the way back to the acreage, I switched on the truck radio (which happened to be tuned to CBC) to hear some reporting on the game we watched.....it took me a few moments but I soon realized they had some woman on there who was a confirmed onanist, intructing ladies in the art of self gratification.....the part we broke in on was a very descriptive episode about the employment of phallic objects found about the house such as candles and wooden spoons and the like.
I turned the channel immediately after I heard that but it wasn't fast enough to escape the sharp ears and curiosity of my 7 year old son....who immediately pestered me with a host of embarassing questions which I sweated to answered in a very nebulous innocuous manner....later that week I was chewed out by the wife, who had heard the child giggling as he repeated some of what he leaned on the CBC to a play mate...she wondered if I had taken the kid to a strip club on the Calgary visit.
Although I'm sure the exposure to CBC's in-your-face "progessivism" didn't traumatize the kid, it did make life unneccessarily dicey for the wife and I in explaining things to the child we did not think he was ready to tackle at his stage of development.
I have to wonder what that irresponsible social engineer at the CBC thought they were doing for families by putting that type of crap on at 7PM prime time....just reinforced to me there was no community standards moderation at the CBC and rather than serving as a family-oriented information service to Canadians it served as a podium for immoderate left culture memes.
This morning's bit for the cause, not news of what was discussed at the G20 meeting but rather just another slag against PMSH over missing his photo op. Not good enough to give us the backgrounder to this Corpse "news" but then on to a "comedy" piece of the event. They just love to hate.

Having spent the better part of four decades in classrooms, I have my doubts about ADD—Attention Deficit Disorder. (I certainly don’t believe it’s a “serious mental condition”.) From my experience, in most cases, I’d rename the condition, of a critical mass of kids who are labelled ADD, BP/NCD: Bad Parenting/No Consequences [at home or school] Disorder.
I’ve taught a lot of “ADD” kids: most were spoiled brats. What else does one expect from kids, where “visions of entitlement dance in their heads”—actually are stuffed into them by their immature, entitled parent(s) and the social engineers of the public education system—and are never on the hook for poor choices?
I found that high expectations, a structured program, and—from me—consequences for non-compliance made a huge difference. When expectations rather than excuses are the order of the day, many of these kids comply.
This therapeutic society hasn’t seen an aberration it can’t label and medicate: Le voila: children’s appalling behaviour isn’t the fault of their parents! Then, give the kids a pill. There are cases when I truly believe this is a form of child abuse.
BTW, the CBC is full of immature, entitled spoiled brats. (Wouldn’t it be nice if a pill would solve that problem?) Fire. Them. All!
Thanks Vit.
For those to whom it concers - Vitruvius is an invited guest blogger here and as such, is authorized to intercede on my behalf. The rules for staying on topic are clear.
If a topic isn't being discussed here, then find another blog where it is.
Also having observed a critical mass of entitled yet, ironically, neglected students in most of the classrooms I have taught in, I completely agree with lookout's distrust of an ADD diagnosis in many cases.
"Society," not wanting to stigmatize the negligent parents of children who are insufferable because Mom and Dad have chosen not to levy consequences for insubordinate behaviour, slaps a medical label onto the kids and medicates them into a calmer demeanor.
Sadly, our children are being stigmatized, labelled, and drugged in order to cover up their parents' dismal lack of commitment to parenting. Our society would never think to open such a discussion with these parents because we don't want to offend them. (Political correctness run amok.)
What about the kids? What about the rest of us? I find that I'm pretty damned offended by the legion of entitled kids in our classrooms, on our streets, in public transit, in the workplace. Why should the parents of these out-of-control kids be let off the hook by a "medical" label slapped on their kids?
Sadly, it's their kids, primarily, and then the rest of us, who are taking the brunt of their refusal to face reality.
This is from Wikipedia: "Traditionally, in some countries, the jokes only last until noon: like UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa, someone who plays a trick after noon is called an "April Fool", this is also what I was told as a child, jokes or pranks after 12:00 noon makes the perpetrator the fool.
Hopefully the federal government will recognize that the CBC is not just an "April Fool", but a "year-round fool". Perhaps Revenue Canada should come up with an "I'm No Fool" deduction worth $1000.00 for each idiotic and foolish endeavor the federal government decides to fund.

That really hits the nail right smack on the head
For most of my life I've had little reason to pay any attention to the CBC. I never liked CBC TV and outside of the sports they used to cover (which they don't anymore) never watched.
HNIC .... even that they have manged to f@ck up.
Whatever they do these days cannot surprise me at all and I find it odd that anyone could be surprised by their product.
When I was very young there was a late night jazz program that I sometimes got away with listening to (around midnight.. and I was six or so).
For a stretch between 1977 and 1985 I was a regular listener to Gzowski .... many hours driving back and forth across the Prairies and the fact that the AM radio program came in clear over most of the territory I covered made the light and inoffensive Gzowski a good way to pass the time.
There was also a late night music broadcast that featured "new" music and offered a chance to get away from the drivel offered up during the great decline of FM radio.
All this time and even during the best periods of the Ceeb's programing I rarely came across ANYONE who listened to the radio programming. And NO ONE under the age of 50.
It seemed like almost overnight the whole scene changed and the CEEB became nothing but an unceasing source of moonbattery and the same damned music over and over.
The end of my patience came as Gzowski geared down from doing his show regularly and had that dumb B!tch whose name I have blocked out of my memory cover for him on a regular basis.
Nothing could have been further from what their mandate was supposed to be as they sunk ever further into the depths of their leftwing activist agenda. I recall Sunday afternoons and that pathetic crap they had on called "ideas" ... indeed the most blatant platform for propagandizing by the moonbat left that there ever was.
After that .... the only reason to pay any attention to CBC is to keep track of their latest self indulgence.
I file any observation of the CBC under the category "Know Your Enemy".
And then there is the story of CBC and the elves! CBC's credibility in Iceland is now shot.
