Here in Woodstock Ontario, eight year old Victoria Stafford is still missing, despite heavy Ontario Provincial Police involvement in the abducted child's ivestigation.

Wasn't her case on America's Most Wanted last night?

My understanding it was on that John Walsh program in the USA, but I never saw it.

If this outbreak of swine fever gets any more widespread or deadly, somehow it has to be blamed on Gerorge Bush. Just saying...

It's early days. Give them a week or so.

More stunning displays of intellectual brilliance from democrats in the US (congresscritter Henry Waxman):

“We’re seeing the reality of a lot of the North Pole starting to evaporate, and we could get to a tipping point. Because if it evaporates to a certain point - they have lanes now where ships can go that couldn’t ever sail through before. And if it gets to a point where it evaporates too much, there’s a lot of tundra that’s being held down by that ice cap..”

The UN's racist anti-racism conference "Durban II" rammed through a final declaration three days before its scheduled conclusion. On Monday Iranian President Ahamadinejad had opened the substantive program by denying the Holocaust and spewing antisemitism. A day later UN members rewarded Iran by electing it one of three Vice-Chairs of the committee which adopted the final declaration.

vitruvius - thanks for Pavarotti - I like opera..

Nicola Timmerman - yes, you are right; they'll blame Bush very soon....hmmm..I'll bet they'll say it was his fault there aren't vaccines..

You're welcome, ET. I'm a really big Pavarotti fan.
I make no excuses, his singing just brings me joy.

"Rep Steve Scalise (R-LA) challenged Gore on his claims of a scientific consensus on warming, stating that the committee had already seen a number of scientists with 'Completely opposite views.' The former VP's response? 'There are people that still believe that the moon landing was staged on a movie lot in Arizona.'"

EBD" "The former VP's response? 'There are people that still believe that the moon landing was staged on a movie lot in Arizona.'" -- This response by Gore is pathetic. He said the same a couple of years ago on Charlie Rose when Rose asked him about doubters. Interestingly, for me that was the signal that told me Gore was lying. Any reasonable person would have said . . . "well, yes there are a few doubters, but we think, blah, blah." As soon as he started comparing doubters to nut cases doubting the moon landing, I knew he was trying to manipulate the audience's perceptions.

Mark Wegierski expresses the hope that the authentic Right and Left will band together in opposing the managerial-therapeutic State:

Quick round up the usual suspects. Get them to explain why we should be worrying about Global Warming when we could be headed for The Big Chill

Interesting to see how GM will continue to pay the pensions of its huge and growing retirement force as they continue to downsize their actual workers and reduce their production. Love reading the comments of the CAW members particularly this one of Larry Hrehorsky "I know there's a lot of people who don't have negotiated pensions but they had their chance to negotiate these things. Just because we were in a strong union, people can't be mad at us." No, Larry, we're not mad at you we just don't want our taxes to fund your negotiated and now collapsing life style. You and your parasitic union made your deals now live with it!

"Across the dark living room, one of Childs's favorite pictures is displayed on a worn coffee table. It shows Childs with her arms wrapped around Barack Obama, his hand on her back, her eyes glowing. They met at a rally attended by 37 supporters on a rainy day in 2007, when Childs responded to Obama's sluggishness on stage with an impromptu chant: "Fired up! Ready to go!" She repeated it, shouting louder each time, until Obama laughed and dipped his shoulders to the rhythm. The chant caught on. "Fired up!" people began saying at rallies. "Ready to go," Obama chanted back. He told audiences about Childs, "a spirited little lady," and invited her onstage at campaign appearances. By the day of his inauguration, when Childs led a busload of strangers bound for the Mall in her now-iconic chant, her transformation was complete. She was Edith Childs, fired up and ready to go"

Scott McConnell, Not So Huddled Masses: Multiculturalism and Foreign Policy

The modest contemporary literature on the connection between America’s immigration and foreign policies contains this assertion by Nathan Glazer and Daniel P. Moynihan, from the introduction to their 1974 volume Ethnicity: Theory and Experience: “The immigration process is the single most important determinant of American foreign policy . . . This process regulates the ethnic composition of the American electorate. Foreign policy responds to that ethnic composition. It responds to other things as well, but probably first of all to the primary fact of ethnicity.”...

Twenty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, America has entered a new era of ethnicity and foreign policy, whose contours are only just now emerging. During the 1990s, when multiculturalism was in vogue, leaders of old and new minority groups steered American foreign policy toward the cause of their ancestral homelands...

"Mexico's swine flu fever: Residents have long expected the apocalypse. But no one expected swine flu

Mexico City is a place where the feeling is that the "end is near". This sense of impending doom is part of a longstanding tradition: even great pre-Colombian cities like Teotihuacan or Chichen Itza were suddenly abandoned for reasons that are unknown. Although the city formerly known as Tenochtitlan is still going strong after almost seven centuries, its own population lives in constant fear of sudden demise. In fact, if Mexico City hasn't been destroyed by proxy in disaster movies it's only because the national film industry lacks the kind of production money needed for monsters to crush buildings or UFOs to invade.

More realistic conjecture as to just how this apocalypse will take place vary, but all of them are imminent: 20 million people buried under our own garbage, poisoned by the air we've polluted, dying of thirst because our drinking water has run out, flooded with toxic waste once our sewer system collapses under the weight of the downtown area (which, incidentally, is sinking into the ground). Some envision a volcanic apocalypse, courtesy of Popocatepetl. Or an earthquake worse than the "Big One" back in 1985.

But no one was expecting swine flu."

Wonder if that ka-ching is in brown paper wrappers? Nah, don't worry! This is all perfectly legit, and done through the budgeting process...

Some citizens are more equal than others...

je ne comprende pas? Permit me....

Total Canada Day Budget 2009 - 3.77 million

Spending by Province/Region:

Ontario - $100k
Alberta - $50k
Yukon - $20k
Quebec - $3.25 million

At the office of Minister of Canadian Heritage, James Moore, one also recalls that the committee Celebrate Canada in Quebec also provides funding to support the celebration of other events, including St. John the Baptist, June 24, and Day National Aboriginal Day, June 21

"This is the only province where it works that way," said Deirdra McCraken, spokesman for the minister.

Mulroney aide went from PMO to lobbyist within days, inquiry hears

OTTAWA — There's evidence that Fred Doucet, a former senior aide to Brian Mulroney, went to work as a lobbyist for the Bear Head armoured vehicle project practically as soon as he left the Prime Minister's Office.

Documents tabled at a public inquiry show Doucet was discussing the project within three days of departing from Mulroney's staff in August 1988.

He would normally have been subject to a one-year cooling off period before being allowed to lobby any departments he had dealings with while in government.

But Doucet had obtained an unusual waiver of the cooling-off provision in the federal ethics code at the time.

Doucet doesn't challenge the time line laid out in the documents but says he has no recollection of most of the specific meetings and phone calls about the project, which would have seen Thyssen AG of Germany set up a plant in Nova Scotia to build and export armoured vehicles.

The deal is at the heart of the inquiry into the business dealings between Mulroney and German-Canadian businessman Karlheinz Schreiber, one of the chief promoters of the project.

"The Law of Unintended Consequences" - A Difficult One For the Left to Comprehend

Like many of you I imagine, I have plenty of friends on the Left. I would never say that any of them are stupid and in fact, on a typical IQ test I'm fairly sure they'd do quite well.

But most of them seems to be more driven by emotion rather than intellect & logic, especially when it comes to political & social matters.

I've thus come to the realization that if someone is so driven by emotion to be compelled to constantly make the "quick fixes" then they are absolutely incapable of appreciating the Law of Unintended Consequences.

This seems to be extremely emblematic in the Obama Administration. What's happening now with the CIA is beyond appalling and I fear will be extremely dangerous for us in the coming years & decades. Fred Thompson shares his thoughts.

Joe Klein: Intellectual Midget

In a recent post Time magazine's Joe Klein started off as follows:

Mark Steyn, the British conservative who seems to play at thinking rather than going through the actual work of thought, is all upset about the deteriorating situation in Pakistan.

Who precisely is the one playing at thinking?!?

Robert W - thanks for the link to the excellent analysis by Fred Thompson.

He's right - Obama, a man of total naivete, lack of experience, coupled with 'unbelievable arrogance and ineptitude' has indeed unleashed a pandora's box in Washington.

But he operates by emotional manipulation. His campaign was all about emotional manipulation, based on the amorphous emotions of 'hope and change' - without details of what enabled these emotions to exist. His campaign was geared to emotions, such as 'anti-Bush' and racism, where he defined himself as possibly, subject to racism is a white person rejected him ...Remember his tale of his white grandmother being 'afraid of big black men'.

Recall how he dealt with the public anger at the AIG bonuses; he inflamed and inflated it, setting up a lynch mob hysteria! And then, he was exposed as agential in that his administration actually wrote those bonuses into, and agreed to them; they were legal.

But Obama didn't tell the public that; instead, he misinformed and manipulated them, using them as part of his Campaign Against The Middle Class; against entrepreneurship, against setting up businesses to make money.

The Democrats were stunned by the Tea Parties. They tried to deflect them by denigrating them, by suggesting they were 'all planned' by FOX, by the Republicans etc. This didn't work; they know another one is planned for Sept 12.

So, Obama has resorted to his usual emotional manipulation, where he sets up class vs class, race vs race - and people vs people. This diverts from his pork spending, his take-over of private corporations, his funding of leftist socialist agendas.

Now, he's using his Bash Bush tactic, one that he's used before. He's trying to define ALL Conservatives, ALL people against the Iraq, Afghanistan, Terror Wars - as criminals. This is a massive attack.

He released that DHS memo - the day before the Tea Parties; this memo, a travesty of bigotry, defines anyone who questions and dissents from the left - in issues on abortion, on immigration, on security - as 'extreme right winger prone to violence'. It defines any member of the military returning from service as a 'right winger' and 'susceptible to violence'.

Notice - the military is criminalized.
Dissent and questions on left wing policies are criminalized.

Then, his next step was to attack Bush and his era as criminals. He claims they are torturers. This has backfired on him because it's been shown that the Democrats knew and approved of these interrogation tactics.

Now, he's going to release photos of psychological manipulation in the prisons - to further divide American citizesn..and to take the heat off those Democrats who supported 'harsh interrogation'.

Result? He's viciously divided and weakened Americans, focusing their attention on the past and on Bush, diverting their attention from his extreme socialist policies. He's weakened questions and dissent from 'the right', by his definition of anyone on the right as 'an extremist prone to violence'; as an enabler of torture; as an abuser, etc etc.

That's on the domestic side. Abroad - what has he done? Denigrated and belittled the USA, insulted close allies, cosseted and fawned over declared enemies, equated democracy to dictatorships, ignored American bounty and generosity to the world and declared that his pride in his country is only because he comes from there and is expected to support it but has nothing to do with any value of the USA.

All, in 100 days.

Do you think that the Winnipeg Free Pass (for the Librano$) will have a Sunday column on the rise of the federal Conservative Party any time soon?

Anita Neville says: "I feel an energy I haven't felt for a very long time."

Sharon Carstairs says: Ignatieff is resonating in ways Dion never did, and reaching out to the caucus, to grassroots Liberals and average voters in ways Carstairs says hasn't happened since Jean Chrétien."

MORE LIBERAL PROPAGANDA

The Liberals must be slipping in the polls, the Schreiber-Mulroney fiasco in on the air at CBC!! Today, Fred Doucet, former aide to Mulroney is on the news. He says he can't recall a $90,000 invoice from 1988.
I sold heavy trucks for many years. I can honestly say that I can't recall one single transaction I made, simply because it was 30 years ago. I do recall some of the customers I dealt with, especially the owner-operators who were colorful characters to say the least. I do recall one sale I made to a utilities company that involved 75 heavy units. The amount? Sorry, I don't recall! I do recall the trucks arriving in Winnipeg on the CPR! But to recall the specific amount of one single sale I made! Sorry, but I couldn't. I am one person who believes Mr. Doucet!

"OBAMA PLANE PHOTO OP STARTLES NEW YORKERS"

A jumbo jet being chased by a F-16 fighter jets buzzed Lower Manhattan this morning, panicking New Yorkers, many of whom were forced to evacuate their office buildings.

It was not a terrorist attack, however, but a photo opportunity for Air Force One, sources told the Post.

President Obama was in Washington at the time, but the low-flying 747 circling the Statue of Liberty was one of the planes used as Air Force One, sources said."

The MSM are already blaming the Republicans for the swine flu epidemic.

Apparently, one of The Three Republicans who sided with the Democrats on that pork-filled stimulus bill, was Susan Collins, Republican Senator from Maine. She, as well as some Democrats, (Chuck Schumer who called such agendas 'little porky things) worked to remove 780 million in funding for pandemic preparedness.

Why? Not because she's against 'pandemic preparedness' but because she felt it didn't belong in an economic stimulus package.

However, it doesn't matter; not only the Republicans will be blamed - but, I'm waiting to see how they'll bring Bush into it.

OTTAWA — Close Brian Mulroney confidante Fred Doucet answered repeatedly today he had "no recollection" to almost every question put to him at the public inquiry probing business dealings between Mulroney and German-Canadian businessman Karlheinz Schreiber.

His absence of memory concerning almost everything to do with a controversial proposal by a German company to build light-armoured vehicles in Canada clearly frustrated lead inquiry counsel Richard Wolson.

Doucet, a former chief advisor to Mulroney when he was prime minister, is thought to be a key figure in the inquiry in terms of Mulroney's involvement in Bear Head Industries project.

However, he stated dozens of time that he had no recollection of events or did not recall meetings...

Documents show former Mulroney aide involved in airplane sale

Fred Doucet, Brian Mulroney's former chief of staff, received a list from Air Canada detailing how many Airbus aircraft had been delivered to the airline in the early 1990s, contradicting Mr. Doucet's sworn testimony that he has “no knowledge at all about anything involving Airbus.”

Ottawa — Fred Doucet, a close friend and former senior aide to Brian Mulroney, negotiated a confidential exemption from a code of conduct that barred him from immediately working for Karlheinz Schreiber when he resigned from his government post in 1988, the Oliphant inquiry heard this morning.

However, Fred Doucet was granted an exemption from the code by Jean-Pierre Kingsley, who at the time was with the Treasury Board, according to an Aug. 9, 1988 letter filed with the Oliphant inquiry.

Corriveau's convenient memory loss

Jacques Corriveau, a graphic designer and acquaintance of Jean Chretien who pocketed millions from the sponsorship fund (and the Liberal Party of Canada), hasn't been able to remember much of anything at the Gomery Inquiry, except that the Liberals were anxious to spend some money:

Jacques Corriveau said Friday that he heard through contacts that the federal government was keen to spend money in Quebec after the close referendum in 1995, making him privy to an initiative that even cabinet ministers later claimed ignorance of.

He could not say specifically how he learned that the federal spigot was being opened, showing in his second day of testimony at the Gomery inquiry the same spotty memory on display Thursday.

“I have to tell you, Mr. Commissioner, as a volunteer within the Liberal Party of Canada, I was involved in a very political milieu and an advertising environment,” he told Judge Gomery before his explanation trailed off.

“... to say exactly when it happened, no, it was too far away and too close, if you will, to be able to identify who really made me aware of it. No, I'm sorry, I can't answer that.”

Mr. Corriveau, who the inquiry has heard received millions of dollars through sponsorship funding, on Thursday blamed age and recent surgery for his memory lapses. A day later, his inability to be precise continued.

Yesterday, Corriveau attibuted his memory loss to a recent operation - although, curiously enough, he was able to recall relatively detailed information about things that happened long before 1995

ET/ Robert

I share ET's concern(the DHS document has changed my life and views). If I was an American I would fall into the "threat to security" category. For what? I'm an atheist, I'm pro-choice and pretty liberal on most social issues. My crime, I support small and decentralized government. One could make the argument that religion, abortion and GW are not political issues, but you can't as far as I can tell argue that "type of government" isn't a political issue.

I foresee a day where people are being imprisoned for not towing the government line. I thought it was all jokes and fun when we were busting Suzuki's chops for suggesting what at the time seemed ludicrous. Today I'm not so sure. From BO's civilian police force, to thought police at universities, to Joo's being banded and harassed publically, to being declared a threat to national security, and finally the media suppressing the truth and actually creating a new truth about the Tea Parties; I'm not so sure we're joking anymore. The media has shown they are quite capable of covering-up anything; so, what if the government started rounding up people and jailing or executing them for political views? Can the media be trusted to keep the public informed and not indoctrinated?

The people have been identified, the eyes and ears of the population have been compromised. So what comes next?

It appears to me that war has been declared on those that would oppose the Democrats and the new President. War has been declared on millions of people with diverse views, but all sharing that one common thread. No view or ideology is sacred, you must adjust on the fly, only government is constant. As it stands now, we're a move or two from check-mate.

One cannot fight a war without a leader. Soon the time will come when we must disperse and keep our mouths shut for self preservations sake.

that's banned not banded

ET, Indiana, thank you both for your very interesting comments! I plan to post them both on my blog because they deserve more exposure than just here in the comments section.

Incidentally, I had my thrill of the day a few hours ago. A member of the Left accused me of being extremely naive when it came to news & politics. She wanted me to write her back at length to defend myself. The funny thing though is that she misspelled "naive" and used "native" instead.

Rather than wasting my time writing her, I instead stood up and banged my head against the wall. It was much more rewarding!

As usual, Victor Davis Hanson has an excellent column on Obama at the Nationl Review, called Damnation of Memory.

Hanson

A few excerpts:

"In other words, Americans deal with perceived executive abuses, both effectively and clumsily, as they transpire. Such contemporary audit avoids the sort of postfacto, partisan damnation of former leaders so common in unstable dictatorships".

That is - NO new administration goes into post-facto retribution. And Obama is going after the Bush era for political reasons only. Not moral reasons, not legal reasons. Political.

He's doing it to deflect and deflate the anger of Americans against his pork-spending, his massive deficits, his thumbing of his nose to Congress - where he rejected their DUTY to 'read the bill before voting on it'.

He's doing it to deflect and deflate the anger of Americans at his emotional manipulation of them with his apocalyptic scenarios - that budgets MUST be passed or the economy will collapse; his assertions that AIG Bonuses are 'outrages' and that the results of the work of the middle class, namely, wealth - are not to be praised but to be condemned as due not to work and inventiveness but only to Greed.

Obama's direct attack on the middle class, his rejection of their right to work and to the results of their work - has created a great deal of anger among Americans.

His attack on the middle class includes this agenda of making them feel guilty for their work, and his elevation of those who do not work to a status of equal 'rights to the result of work'. It is actually a political strategy to get these non-workers to vote for him...and to make the middle class feel ashamed and amoral to question and dissent from this massive tax grab and deficit creation.

Another tactic that Obama uses against the middle class, to create guilt, and make them vote for him, is to suggest that they are biased against him if they question him. This bias can be racist or partisan - and Obama doesn't hesitate to suggest that people who don't support him do so because of these two reasons.

Here's more from Hanson, suggesting what could happen 'post facto' to Obama.

"President Obama would not a want a putative President Palin to begin hearings on who ordered the targeted executions of two suspected Somali pirates, taken out in the middle of protracted negotiations. He would not wish a President Sanford one day to indict those Obama officials who approved the assassination-by-Predator-missile of suspected terrorists and their families in Pakistan — without habeas corpus, Miranda rights, or avenues of appeal. He would not enjoy a future President Giuliani’s bringing indictments of Obama officials over the NSA’s exceeding its allotted e-mail intercepts, or the CIA’s conducting overseas renditions of suspected terrorists without providing them the benefits of U.S. law."

"The Romans called this practice damnatio memoriae, “damnation of memory,” in which the new emperor, to prove that he had “reset” the government, and that the present ills were all the fault of his odious predecessor (e.g., “Domitian did it”), simply erased the memory of the prior ruler — even chiseling off imperial names from statues and decrees."

Obama is doing this, again, not for any moral or legal reasons. But for political gain. His own political gain. And in so doing, he is deeply and profoundly hurting America and the American people. But we know, don't we, from his constant denigrations of America on his foreign trips, that he has no love for America, no feelings of support or patriotism.

hardboiled Re: "Close Brian Mulroney confidante Fred Doucet answered repeatedly today he had "no recollection" to almost every question put to him at the public inquiry probing business dealings between Mulroney and German-Canadian businessman Karlheinz Schreiber." In fairness it was thirty years ago -- kind of like trying to remember the something you learned in highschool. That this hearing is taking place so long after the events simply contributes to the whole farce.
