Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation and pursuant to our Friday night old-time radio crime-detective show, here is Thomas Hyland presenting the story of Jesse James in the Death Of A Picture Hanger episode of Crime Classics (1953, 29:41). This one's a bit different from our usual SDA LNR OTR CDS, you may like it ;-)
According to the Free Old-Time Radio Shows web site: "Crime Classics was a U. S. radio docu-drama which aired over CBS from June 15, 1953 to June 30, 1954. Created, produced, and directed by radio actor/director Elliott Lewis, the program was basically a historical true crime series, examining crimes, and especially murders, from the past. It grew out of Lewis's personal interest in famous murder cases, and took a documentary-like approach to the subject, carefully recreating the facts, personages, and feel of the time period. Comparatively little dramatic license was taken with the facts and events, but the tragedy was leavened with humor, expressed largely through the narration."
Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

I just watched "Taking Chance" for the third or fourth time on HBO Canada and for anyone that has not seen it, make an effort to sit down for this one.
Stars ol six degrees himself, Kevin Bacon as LCol Mike Strobl, USMC. He was the escort officer for the remains of PFC Chance Phelps, USMC.
The movie tells the story of his trip across the States and the people he met along the way.
If you cannot catch it, the story the film was based on is here (PDF),

I was reading about Irena Sendler. She was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. But Al Gore won for "a slide show on global warming" according to Snopes. Good on Snopes, I say.
Dem Congressman calls cap and trade "a great big tax" and asks Gore what the best course is and which to choose for the climate bill, a carbon tax or cap and trade.
Gore's answer? "I am in favour of both."
They're just getting started...

BC's Minister of safety John van Dongen has been suspended from driving for "too many speeding tickets." I saw the story on CBC.Ca. One reader asked, "Is there something in the air on the west coast?"
Yes there is! Liberals!
kdl - yep, that is tragic - Sendler died shortly thereafter, so that ship has sailed
It is so sad to think that the Nobel prizes are as corrupted as most other things we have given up on.
Inspired by Kate's posting about the Feb 2009 Fiscal Monitor, I signed up for regular e-mail updates from the Ministry of Finance, the results of which I'll post in future threads like these.
I know she'll be just as scrupulous with her reporting in the months ahead as she has been heretofore, even should the numbers change--though surely they won't, given who's in charge.
Anyone that has lived in Ontario or Quebec drives too fast for B.C. They will ticket you for doing 100 in a 90 zone here. I wonder how that would go over in the east?

P.S. Please remember that the BC Liberals are the defacto Liberals + Conservatives in the province. Okay, not the official Conservatives, I realize.
But if too many of us were to vote for THE Conservatives in BC then we'd wreck the province with Premier Carole James and the NDP for the next 4 years. No thanks.
Open Question: Have any of you found that as Canadians move into their retirement years they generally get a stronger sense of an entitlement mentality?
If so, what are your theories/beliefs about why this might be?
But if too many of us were to vote for THE Conservatives in BC then we'd wreck the province with Premier Carole James and the NDP for the next 4 years. No thanks.

Yep, that's what happened in 1996 when BC Reform existed. They siphoned off enough votes in the rural ridings to allow the NDP to win the election despite having a smaller percentage of the popular vote than the BC Liberals. 1996-2001 was the longest five years I've ever experienced.
Praise for Harper's Early Withdrawal from Durban II from the Simon Wiesenthal Center:
"The world owes a debt to Prime Minister Stephen Harper for sounding the alarm that this week's UN Durban Review Conference is not the human rights cruise as advertised.
Ostensibly billed as an anti-racism conference, Durban II is a false flag operation whose quarterdeck is under the control of the same piratical crew of serial human rights abusers, including Iran, Libya, and Cuba, that hijacked the Durban I Conference just days before the 9/11 attacks.
U.S. President Barack Obama certainly carries the biggest global megaphone, but his message at the recent Latin American summit -- that the Durban II preparatory language was fatally flawed by "antagonism toward Israel in ways that were often times completely hypocritical and counterproductive" -- was right out of Harper's play book.
We can only wonder what would have happened if the PM's early, lonely warning had been followed up sooner by Obama. Would the EU -- including France and the U.K. -- have gotten into line, breaking the grip of the whole corrupted "Durban Process" that mocks the UN's founding principles?"
Would-be prime minister Michael Ignatieff waxes eloquently about the horrible deaths of Christopher Pauchay's daughters, and concludes, in glowing terms, and somehow, unmistakably, on his own behalf, that it's about *us*, as Canadians, in that united Liberal blast-from-the-past sense he hopes to resurrect:
"To imagine it as a citizen is to imagine it as a resident of Yellow Quill reservation in Saskatchewan would have had to imagine it, this Canada where two half-naked children died in a snow-covered field in the sub-Arctic darkness because their father tried to take the sick little girls to his parents and never made it, and all you can hope is that death was as mercilessly quick as the cold can make it. What does a resident of Yellow Quill imagine, what do we Canadians imagine our country to be, the morning we learn that children have perished in this way? It is surely more than just a tragic story of one family. It is a story about us."
Greg Farries of ThePolitic.com puts a well-timed bullet in that particularly revolting, prurient, overreaching, politicking outburst:
"No Michael, the story of Christopher Pauchay - the man who murdered his daughters by getting drunk and then dragging them out into -50 degree weather with only diapers and t-shirts to protect them from the bitter cold - isn’t a story about us. It’s a story about abuse, neglect and a disgusting disregard for basic human life.
"The only thing more insulting than claiming 'it is a story about us' is Ignatieff’s willingness to warp this tragic story to further his personal political ambitions."

Just posted: My casual, impromptu survey and analysis of the political landscape this Saturday morning, for your consideration:
Inconvenient Truth For Ignatieff Liberals
http://thecanadiansentinel.blogspot.com/2009/04/inconvenient-truth-for-ignatieff.html
The way I see it, you can read stuff written by biased, agenda-driven Leftist reporters who, more or less, get paid to write what they're told and not write what they're told not to, or you can read something by a regular guy like me who, like yourself, probably pays closer attention to reality than they do.
And you don't have to pay for my writing, either, just as you no longer have to pay for (if it's online) the writing of the folks who get paid to write pretty much what somebody else wants them to write.
Do I have an agenda? Maybe a little, but at least my agenda is closer to that of the average, mainstream Canadian, than it is to that of those whose livelihood depends on doing as they're told.
""Is there something in the air on the west coast?"
Yes there is! Liberals! "
Just a note . . . it is the "BC Liberals" . . just a name but no affiliation to the regulare LPC crew. The BC Libs are "anyone but the socialist horde" and are a right side/right thinking coalition party that is home for federal CPC & Libs & old provincial Soc Reds etc.
Its what saves us from the BC NDP, which is just the political arm of the the BC Federation of Labour.
We vote May 12th and gawd help us if the unions get back in and try and run (ruin) the province.
It was only a matter of time, I suppose. There's a new doomsday scenario floating about, with the Sun as the causal force:

Here's Mark Steyn in the Nationl Review on what Obama is doing to America.
Mark Steyn
A few excerpts:
"In Europe, the president was asked if he believed in “American exceptionalism,” and replied: “I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism.”
Gee, thanks. A simple “no” would have sufficed. The president of the United States is telling us that American exceptionalism is no more than national chauvinism, a bit of flag-waving, of no more import than the Slovenes supporting the Slovene soccer team and the Papuans the Papuan soccer team"
And
"The button has certainly been “reset” — to September 10th, to a legalistic rearview mirror approach to the “War on Terror,” in which investigating Bush officials will consume far more time and effort than de-nuking Iran. The secretary of Homeland Security’s ludicrous re-classification of terrorism as “man-caused disaster,” and her boneheaded statement that the September 11th bombers had entered America from Canada (which would presumably make 9/11 a “Canadian man-caused disaster”) exemplifies the administration’s cheery indifference to all that Bush-era downer stuff."
Does Ignatieff Know which way the Niagara River flows?

Ignatieff may know Canada as well as he thinks, In his new book, True Patriot Love, Mr Ignatieff refers to Canada's 33million people, with competing and conflicting myths of origin, spread across 4 Times Zones!
Canada has 6 time Zones
*the article goes on to point out When Stockwell Day made a geo.gaffe he was Widely ridiculed.
*Funny enough Ignatieffs gaffe isnt recieving anywhere near the attention Day's got
*Day blamed his mistake on arroneuos information provided by a staff member in the rush of campaigning
*Mr Ignatieff on the other hand, had as much time as he wanted to Check & Re-Check his book
Correction: Should have been hit post not preview
Ignatieff may not Understand Canada as well as he thinks.

Re: Omar Khadr.
Check out this LIBERAL HYPOCRISY.
Go to any major Liberal oriented media site, you'll find Toronto Liberals cheering for Omar Khadr's return to Canada. Surprisingly, 56% of Canadians (CBC poll,) don't want him back here.
When JSR, now indentified as Jorell Simpson Rowe, was involved in the Toronto shooting death of Jane Creba on Boxing Day, 2005, that city cried out "Justice." JSR was 17 years old when he was arrested and charged with murder of Creba, although he did not fire the shot that killed her. Yet JSR was involved in a gun battle that yeilded the stray bullet that hit Miss Creba. That's all the evidence the Ontario justice system needed to convict him of the murder. He is now serving an adult sentence for 2nd degree murder. The Ontario leftists and Liberals alike cried out hurrah!!
So what's different between Khadr killing an American soldier as a juvenille, and JSR killing an innocent bystander in Toronto? Keep in mind that the charges against Khadr claim that Omar Khadr did indeed throw a grenade at the US soldier in Afghanistan. Yet JSR did not fire the shot that killed Creba.
Conclusion: there is a justice system for Ontario Liberals, and another for Canadians who commit serious crimes abroad.
jack frosst - very nice analysis. Thanks.
PS: Re Khadr.
I want to make it clear that the reason I wrote my piece on your site Kate, is that the CBC, (one hour after I had written it,) had not yet published my comment on CBC.Ca. I'm still waiting!!
Omar Khadr, no doubt our future Justice Minister in the 2014 Justin Trudeau government.

National Post columnist Don Martin's recent apparent political shift leftwards has been a head-scratcher for me.
Where readers could, at one time, count the former Calgary Herald columnist to write based on his well-grounder western values.
Heck, his biography at the National Post website points out in 2000 he left for Ottawa, the city where tax dollars go to die.
I was perlexed as his apparent shift of viewpoint until looking at the National Post today.
There on page FW8 was a somewhat interesting sight.
I have no qualm that anybody has the right to date anybody and I'm not even sure if the gal he was pictured with was his date.
When I looked at the cutline to see who it was ... imagine my surprise when the gal was identified at Krista Erickson.
That's when it all started making sense.

"Omar Khadr did indeed throw a grenade at the US soldier in Afghanistan. Yet JSR did not fire the shot that killed Creba."
Further to the point, Jane Creba was the daughter of a prominent NDP family while the medic killed (allegedy, nudge, nudge) by Kahdr was well, merely an American.
Jack Frost: Good observations. RE: "and another for Canadians who commit serious crimes abroad.? This particular point is indeed being given short-shrift by the Canadian justice system and the media. I cannot detect any attention being given to the actual crime, and the question of whether it might not be legitimate to ensure a trial of some sort establish guilt or innocence. This is resulting in a real travesty of justice in this case.
