He seems to have won over only Bloc supporters.
I was appauled by the article I read on CBC.CA. tonight. Canadian Federal judge James O`Reilly has issued an order that PM Harper must press the USA government to return suspectes murderer Omar Kahdr to Canada.
If I read this right, a Canadain judge beleives he has the right to order a US court to alter it's decisions. Wow! Talk about arrogance!!
PS; I made the same comment on CBC.CA, except I added the term "Liberal" in front of "judge," needless to say, my comment was blanked out!!
Jack, a friend in Seattle directed me to that. I don't even bother posting on CBC anymore because it makes my head hurt to read the moronic comments there.
What I wrote to my friend was this: "Unelected judges with a huge Leftist agenda telling the elected prime minister what he must do in regard to a murderous terrorist."
G&M didn't like the comment 'As long as he moves into a halfway house with pedophiles where YOU live.' They are getting nervous methinks.

Krauthammers latest column over at NRO entitled "the grand strategy" is well worth reading. Like Clinton healthcare may be why BO's societal putsch founders on,but thusfar he has been more craftly at it.
Bill O'Reilly plunked a few words of wisdom down about GE,MSNBC, the One,and cap and trade. Said GE stands to gain billions and that ain't right. Bout time.
Sorry krauthammers column is at RCP not NRO.
GE builds multi-million dollar windmills.

Don't worry about being rejected by CBC, Jack Frost, you were published HERE, at SDA and way more people read SDA than do CBC. Kate runs Canada's Fox News - check out her hits if you doubt my word. You posted a good comment, BTW.

Just a friendly reminder for those conservatives who have forgotten what it is to be such or can't remember what it looks like.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence.
You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.
You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.
You cannot establish security on borrowed money.
You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they will not do for themselves.
No re-invention required.

Headline @ G&M
Operation Diplomat
How Canada mounted the most complex rescue mission in its history to free Robert Fowler and Louis Guay from the clutches of al-Qaeda.
A rotating team of three dozen Canadians worked tirelessly in West Africa over the past four months to secure freedom for two Canadian diplomats, sources say. Drawn from the ranks of the foreign service, Mounties, spies and other agencies, they ran the most sophisticated rescue operation Canada has ever known.
Using the wizardry of modern surveillance, calling in favours and exerting pressure on African governments, the team considered every option, up to and including a military raid.
The Canadian military, Mounties and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service were mobilized. A rich contributor to the Malian infrastructure over the years, Canada has forged close relations with the government. This gave the rescue team a considerable advantage, allowing for relatively easy transfer of Canadians in and out of the sovereign country.
But it was the hidden hand of a signals-intelligence agency that is being described as key to the success of the whole operation. Sources say the eavesdroppers in the Communications Security Establishment are the “the unsung heroes” of the mission.
That is because the Ottawa-based CSE can go where human agents cannot. The signals experts have increased their capability to listen in to conversations around the world. Sources say the CSE provided pivotal information, although what they obtained is classified.
Prime Minister Harper finally confirmed the story in Ottawa on Wednesday evening. As is customary, he gave few secrets away.
Mr. Harper told the country on Wednesday: “I wish to also thank the women and men of Canada, and throughout the world, who worked without relaxing in the course of the four months to bring an end to this terrible situation.
“It's a long day, but they're never too long when they end well,” he said.
Wow.
Democrats are in a dilemma.
Is O Joe McCarthy?
Half want O'McCarthy Witch Hunt.
T'other half do not want O'McCarthy Witch Hunt.

Posted by ulianov: "The ironic thing is that the Cons could have used this issue (and also the Abdelrazik case) to bash the Libs over the head with, since the Libs were in power when these things began. But, the Cons apparently can't buy into helping a Canadian citizen who isn't white."
So, you're saying then, that the Cons are every bit as "racist" as the Liberals? And, if Jack! were PM, I suppose he'd do it differently?
You're such a moron, Lenin.

"Vital Canadian battle remembered by few (Kapyong, Korea, 1951)
If Vimy Ridge was the perfect set-piece attack in WWI, a case can be made that on a reduced scale, the battle of Kapyong in the Korean war, fought by 2nd Battalion of the Princess Pats, was a perfect defensive battle that, arguably, saved Seoul from being captured by the Chinese.
Canada's triumph at Vimy Ridge in 1917 was the first battle of WWI decisively won by the allies.
Kapyong was the most vital battle fought by Canadians in the Korean war, but is not well remembered -- except by those who were there, by those who followed and, of course, by Koreans.
Today, Apr. 24, is the 58th anniversary of that battle in 1951.
In subsequent battles, the Van Doos and RCR had greater casualties than the Pats endured at Kapyong, but none where the stakes were so high.
The Patricias were the only Canadian unit in Korea at the time, commanded by Lt.Col. "Big Jim" Stone, a soldier's soldier who had enlisted as a private in WWII and had served in every rank up to colonel, winning two Distinguished Service Orders by war's end.
As battalion commander he was tough, had a good eye for ground, and would not commit his men to action until he felt they were ready for battle."

Ulanov: "Cons apparently can't buy into helping a Canadian citizen who isn't white." Don't impose your own stereotyping onto the rest of us. Cases such as Khadar's relate to acts of terrorism. You seem to be ignoring the fact that the Harper government also was disinclined to assist Ronald Smith (that pale, red-haired murderer.) I think it is reasonable to conclude that these decisions are based on principle -- whether or not you agree with the principle. You seem to be suggesting that cases involving criminal justice should be used for political gain.

lindal - Ulianov lives in a completely abstract fictional world; he operates only within abstract generalities that have no connection to reality. Consider what he is claiming..
First, that IF you are Canadian, then you can do no wrong; and
Second, IF you are a member of a non-white minority, then, you can do no wrong.
And, since you, as so defined in these abstract terms, can do no wrong, then, the Conservative government's refusal to insist that you are thereby without guilt and its acceptance of the US criminal judgment...is a sign of bigotry.
Since ulianov lives completely in an abstract world of universals and generalities, then, no hard contextual facts ever touch him.
The FACTS are, that the Khadr family, all of them, made a choice to fight against Canada and its allies; made a choice to go to Afghanistan and engage in military actions against the US military; were captured and tried for this choices by the US.
Ulianov totally, completely ignores real life and focuses only on abstract generalities: 'Canadian citizen'; 'dark skin'. These two attributes, he feels, are all that is necessary to define any person as without fault in any action he chooses to take.
Just as ignorant as his statement that 'Jewish science'helped the allies in WWII in Europe.
Unionists vs socialist/fascists in Ontario; divided we fall.
Which side of the fence will ulianov, aka Ulyanov, aka V.I. Lenin, plump its mug-wump?
Lenin/Stalin's union here*.

no, ulianov, don't flee to the woods. Stick to the issues.
Whether Khadr was tried by their military court or not (and he couldn't be tried by a criminal or civil court) is not the point; the point - which you are ignoring - is his choice to fight against the US - and their capture of him. Are you actually going to declare that he wasn't engaged in such actions? Therefore, what is done to him, is up to the US.
So, now he is innocent, not only because he's Canadian, non-white, but also a 'child' (if you call a 15 year old a child). Sorry, ulianov, that puts you back in the woods of generalities.
And read your own posts. I didn't write 'helped the Allies win the war"; I wrote 'helped the allies in WWII in Europe'.
Back to the key problems with your 'thinking', ulianov - which is that you operate in a world totally abstracted from reality. A world of abstract generalities, universal terms, all alienated from actual reality. Again, the Khadr family cannot be judged on your general terms of: Canadian, dark skin - but on their actions.
CBC Poll
Should Omar Kahdr be allowed to return to Canada?
Yes 50% No 49%
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2009/04/23/khadr-harper-court042309.html
If Khadr is to be treated as a child & his proponents are also declaring that his Rights as a Canadian are being abused then here is the scenario.
He is a Youth Offender under the Canada Youth offender act & His name & photo should not be released to the media for all to debate the nays & says, so therefore his Rights under the Youth Offender Act are being broken.
Correct?
bryanr - I don't think that the Youth Offender Act applies to Khadr.
The nature of judging terrorist actions is an entirely new legal issue in the world.
The actions of a Canadian citizen, for example, against the US or against Spain, the UK, etc in a foreign country, aren't covered under criminal or civil law of Canada, of the US, of the country in which they carried out their actions.
So, the arguments are: who gets to try them? The country of their citizenship? The country in which they carried out their actions? The country against whom they carried out those actions?
And under which legal code? Criminal? Civil?
It's a new area, and the leftist insistence on generalities won't help us deal with the realities that terrorism, in particular, Islamic fascism, is real and actually, really, harms us.
My understanding is that O. Khadr has not broken any Canadian law. Therefore should he be returned to Can. soil he is a free man. He has broken only U.S. law and must be tried by them. I agree with ET the family actions have been despicable, and I wonder why their citizenship has not be revoked.
"“Ottawa on track to post surplus in 2008-09
OTTAWA — The federal government is on pace to beat expectations and potentially avert a deficit for the 2008-09 fiscal year based on data for February – the second-last month of the fiscal year – that indicate Ottawa recorded a modest surplus in the face of a record-shrinking economy.”

There are 1381 Comments on cbc.ca re: the judicial order
But look at the Poll, Right next to the article
"should omar khadr be allowed to return to canada?"
Yes 100 50%
No 94 47%
Not sure 7 3%
You would think with all the comments on this article that the Poll would be over run?
Is CBC doctoring a Poll? Makes you wonder!

As Obama South moves to bailout all the pensions of the automakers, one can only wonder if Obama North and his leprechaun are 'quietly' making preparations too.
Plight of Carmakers Could Upset All Pension Plans
By MARY WILLIAMS WALSH
Published: April 23, 2009
"....With or without a bankruptcy filing, the government is quietly making the preparations that would be needed to take over Chrysler’s pension plan, with its 255,000 participants, according to government officials.....
So far, the prospect of a grueling grind through bankruptcy court has been a major deterrent to companies that might want to rid themselves of pension obligations.....
“If one of these companies solves its pension problem by shunting it off to the federal government, then for competitive reasons the others have to do the same thing,” said Zvi Bodie, a professor of finance at the Boston University School of Management and longtime observer of the government’s pension insurance system. “That is the death spiral.”
The pension insurance agency, currently operating with an $11 billion deficit, has long viewed the automakers’ plans with anxiety, though its officials declined to discuss the situation.
G.M.’s plan alone is bigger than the guarantor.....The agency has roughly $67 billion in assets to cover the benefits of nearly 4,000 failed pension plans; G.M. has $84 billion in trust just to cover promises to its own workers, and it is in deficit...."
On the upshot, I guess all of the Canadian civil servants hired over the past three years, and to administrate 'stimulus' can absorb the adept, nimble workforces in place at GM & Chrysler.
There - another fully indexed defined benefit pension and job for life!
C'mon people, the Cons need you onside for this...

Sally Adee, Portable E-bomb to Be Tested
15 April 2009—This week at an arsenal in Huntsville, Ala., defense researchers are testing a new high-power microwave (HPM) bomb—one that creates an electromagnetic pulse capable of disabling electronics, vehicles, guided missiles, and communications while leaving people and structures unharmed. The tests mark the first time such a device has been shrunk to dimensions that could make it portable enough to fit in a missile or carried in a Humvee or unmanned aerial vehicle...
I think Khadr is classified as Caucasoid. I can't find a reference to 'white' so I guess he is the same as me except I never allegedly killed anyone after I planted mines.

Debts and deficits lead to higher taxes as night follows day
April 24, 2009 at 12:00 AM EDT
....High debts and ongoing deficits lead to higher taxes as night follows day. Canadians should know this truth. That was the Canadian experience once federal deficits began in the mid-1970s. The Mulroney Conservatives and, in their early years, the Chrétien Liberals raised taxes (and cut services) because there was no other realistic way to fight the Siamese twins of ongoing deficits and higher debts.
There was plenty of nonsense in those years about solving the problem with industrial strategies, pro-growth measures, eliminating "waste" in government spending, laying off civil servants. Everyone who wanted to avoid hard truths had a formula, just as so many do today. Eventually, the truth hit home, as it will after this recession.
That Canada is heading toward more debt will merely increase the subsequent tax load. But, of course, politicians live in the twilight zone of veracity, suspended between what they know privately to be right and what their instincts and handlers tell them the political culture will allow.
So neither Mr. Ignatieff nor Prime Minister Stephen Harper will tell the whole truth about what lies ahead, in part because the truth will play itself out long after the next election. And since the country's economic literacy is so low, there is no point allowing your political opponent to embark on a scare campaign....."
(FACT: Harper raised taxes on January 1st this year, heading straight into the teeth of a slowdown)
Hardboil
Fact Harper raised taxes on january 1rst
That should please the Liberals if He has done that, have a look at the fiscal Update as just posted at the top.

Yeah, I wish it wasn't true, but, Liberal or Tory, it's the same old story.
And yes, there is a (nominal) surplus - that's good. We are going to have a use for it over the next couple of decades....
And FYI...from the CTF in early January:
Traditionally, CPP contribution limits have been raised each year while EI rates have been lowered, making the overall increase to payroll taxes very small. In 2009, however, both EI and CPP contribution limits increase. At the maximum (incomes over $42,800), Canadians will pay an additional $188 in payroll taxes in 2009. This is the largest single hike in payroll taxes since 2002...."
Welcome back to the Liberal government. It's almost like they never left.
Cbc has come up with a new image of Khadr. They have taken the original sweet Omar pic and blown it up so the screen shows his soft brown eyes.Ahh,he is so innocent.
