Good column, Margaret Wente (Globe & Mail / Saturday. She explains the foolishness of the outrage over 1000 or so birds recently killed in the tar sands. It is so rare to have a journalist who sincerely strives to bring some reasonable perspective to anything remotely related to global warming.

Interesting column, Linda. And indeed, she makes some excellent points!

Then true to form, the Left drags out some no-name, Robert Silver, who pens this screed. Lo and behold, he's not a big fan of the Alberta oil industry. And surprise, surprise he lives in . . . wait for it . . . Toronto!!

Wouldn't it be nice if Toronto were an island up north sitting on a large sheet of ice that we could collectively send off to sea with a big boot?!

The Giant Fan Farm in California is credited with killing some 25,000 birds a year. That according to a column I read a few years ago before the GW scare.

"Wind farms have 197 and 295 feet tall towers with blades that have diameters ranging from 230 to 295 feet. Most of the farms have hundreds and sometimes even thousands of that kind of towers., which can kill entire bird populations of migrating birds. "

Just for you CBC.

Any windmill kills birds. My cousins had an old fashioned dutch type wind mill that filled up their cattle troughs from an artesian well. My cousin was always putting mangled birds out of their misery and burying them before his kids saw them. This was a small fan type windmill; the new hammer finned monsters are bird slaughters - and where is Margaret Wente on the Alberta wind farm slaughters? And where are Margaret/PETA on that dreadful horse slaughterhouse near the Coots border? And what about the chicks
who get their little beaks clipped off so they cannot injure each other in their crammed living space? There is lots to address but these Torrna types only want to bankrupt farmers, ranchers and oilmen because they resent them with all the venom of a rattlesnake. Sad.

Aziga guilty verdict makes history

This was criminal behaviour, no doubt; and one must be aware of the social taboo against blaming the victim, ... but the more I look at the picture of the convicted man, the more I wonder about the women he victimized. What were they thinking?

"*Laugh Factory Owner's Stimulus-Sponsored Comedy Tour No Joke [$700,000]

" No, I don't like jokes."

" And you never heard any? "

" No, I never listened to them,"

The face of the examining officer was becoming cruel
and cold. He was looking straight into my eyes, watching
every movement I made.

" And do you know that one should not lie at a cross-
examination? "

" I know. I didn't tell and didn't listen to anti-Soviet
jokes."

We looked at each other suspiciously.

This time my lie was quite apparent: there is not a single
man in Sovietland, high or low, who does not tell such
jokes. It is the only bit of freedom of speech left in the
U.S.S.R., something that cannot be throttled by any cen-
sorship or any terror, in spite of the fact that the spreading
of such anecdotes is punishable as counter-revolutionary
agitation by sentences of ten years in a concentration camp."

der Marionettenführer Tightens Grip On Banks

http://thecanadiansentinel.blogspot.com/2009/04/der-puppet-fuhrer-tightens-grip-on.html

It is not for nothing that rage has been turned on those wicked financiers. The banks are at the core of the administration's thrust: By managing the money, government can steer the whole economy even more firmly down the left fork in the road.

If the banks are forced to keep TARP cash -- which was often forced on them in the first place -- the Obama team can work its will on the financial system to unprecedented degree. That's what's happening right now.

"Credit crisis, auto failures just side shows for Obama (Krauthammer Hammers the Quisling)

Five minutes of explanation to James Madison, and he’ll have a pretty good idea what a motorcar is (basically a steamboat on wheels; the internal combustion engine might take a few minutes more). Then try to explain to Madison how the Constitution he fathered allows the president to unilaterally guarantee the repair or replacement of every component of millions of such contraptions sold in the several states, and you will leave him slack-jawed.

In fact, we are now so deep into government intervention that constitutional objections are summarily swept aside. The last Treasury secretary brought the nine largest banks into his office and informed them that henceforth he was their partner. His successor is seeking the power to seize any financial institution at his own discretion.

Despite these astonishments, I remain more amused than alarmed. First, the notion of presidential car warranties strikes me as simply too bizarre, too comical, to mark the beginning of Yankee Peronism.

Second, there is every political incentive to make these interventions in the banks and autos temporary and circumscribed. For President Barack Obama, autos and banks are sideshows. Enormous sideshows, to be sure, but had the financial meltdown and the looming auto bankruptcies not been handed to him, he would hardly have gone seeking to be the nation’s car and credit czar.

Obama has far different ambitions. His goal is to rewrite the American social compact, to recast the relationship between government and citizen."

"US Navy Physicist warns of possibly
'several decades of crushing cold temperatures
and global famine'
By Retired U.S. Navy Physicist and Engineer James A. Marusek

02 Apr 09 – Excerpts: “The sun has gone very quiet as it transitions to Solar Cycle 24.

“Since the current transition now exceeds 568 spotless days, it is becoming clear that sun has undergone a state change. It is now evident that the Grand Maxima state that has persisted during most of the 20th century has come to an abrupt end.

“(The sun) might (1) revert to the old solar cycles or (2) the sun might go even quieter into a “Dalton Minimum” or a Grand Minima such as the “Maunder Minimum”. It is still a little early to predict which way it will swing. Each of these two possibilities holds a great threat to our nation.

“We are now at a crossroad. Two paths lie before us. Both are marked with a signpost that reads “Danger”! Down one path lies monstrous solar storms. Down the other path lies several decades of crushing cold temperatures and global famine.”

“Climate change is primarily driven by nature. It has been true in the days of my father and his father and all those that came before us. Because of science, not junk science, we have slowly uncovered some of the fundamental mysteries of nature. Our Milky Way galaxy is awash with cosmic rays. These are high speed charged particles that originate from exploding stars.

“Because they are charged, their travel is strongly influenced by magnetic fields. Our sun produces a magnetic field wrapped in the solar winds that extends to the edges of our solar system. This field deflects many of the cosmic rays away from Earth. But when the sun goes quiet (minimal sunspots), this field collapses inward allowing high energy cosmic rays to penetrate deeper into our solar system.

As I say in Magnetic Reversals and Evolutionary Leaps, these same
cosmic rays can lead to mutations and evolutionary leaps."

*The Waste Land
I. THE BURIAL OF THE DEAD

APRIL is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers."
T.S. Eliot
http://www.bartleby.com/201/1.html

W. Wordsworth -
Written in Early Spring

I HEARD a thousand blended notes
While in a grove I sate reclined,
In that sweet mood when pleasant thoughts
Bring sad thoughts to the mind.

To her fair works did Nature link
The human soul that through me ran;
And much it grieved my heart to think
What man has made of man.

Through primrose tufts, in that sweet bower,
The periwinkle trail'd its wreaths;
And 'tis my faith that every flower
Enjoys the air it breathes.

The birds around me hopp'd and play'd,
Their thoughts I cannot measure,
But the least motion which they made
It seem'd a thrill of pleasure.

The budding twigs spread out their fan
To catch the breezy air;
And I must think, do all I can,
That there was pleasure there.

If this belief from Heaven be sent,
If such be Nature's holy plan,
Have I not reason to lament
What man has made of man?

I guess the Corporate State President didn't want to talk to Claus who clearly knows more about global warming than he does, without his teleprompter.

That's a bad sign - turning down a chance to learn something. heh.

"Obama's 12-Teleprompter Entourage Is Not Newsworthy, or Humor-worthy

On Monday, the UK's Evening Standard, at its "This Is London" site, matter-of-factly noted the following in the final sentenceof its report about President Obama's upcoming European trip (bold is mine):

Accompanying the party will be a total of 500 officials including kitchen staff, 35 vehicles in all, four speech writers and 12 teleprompters.

This more than vindicates yours truly's "President 'Prompter" appellation."

"No Wonder Climate Alarmists Refuse to Debate

When you hear the names Al Gore and James Hansen in the same sentence you immediately assume the subject to be manmade global warming panic. But there’s another distinction which links these two – they both steadfastly refuse to defend their positions in formal debate. And a recent performance by one of their own in just such a venue reminds us why.

Roll Call TV has just posted video of the March 27th debate they hosted between Marc Morano, former communications director for Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK), and Climate Progress's Joe Romm.

Part one begins here at about the 3:45 mark and Part two begins here directly.

The two philosophical adversaries arguing the heated subject of “Green Politics” makes for a fabulous show -- a must-see for all, particularly those still unsure why it is that the overwhelming majority of climate alarmists always find some excuse not to directly confront opposing opinion.

And Romm wasted no time leaving no doubt, issuing these clumsily over the top words almost out of the gate: [my emphasis]

“On our current emissions path we are going to warm the United States 10-15 degrees Fahrenheit by the end of the century and sea level rise will be 5 feet or higher and a third of the planet will be desert.”

And just moments after grossly exaggerating the already hyped predictions of his fellow climate hysterics, he actually summoned the insolence to say that “the thing you have to understand about Marc Morano is that he basically makes stuff up and misrepresents science.” An accusation he’d later repeat and broaden to include Morano’s ex-boss and, ultimately, anyone else not buying the hype Romm and his accomplices have been selling door-to-door these many years.

Granted, self-reflection has never been an inherent trait amongst climate alarmists, but consider Romm’s own blatant fabrications and misrepresentations in the three predictions of his opening salvo."

re: Socialism: The Religion of Man

It certainly is a religion; it is not based on reality, so it has to be based on mystical faith. The socialists merely substituted "society" for "God". That's one reason why they believe what they do: they want to be the ones in charge so they too can be worshipped like God. See Plato, Kant, Hegel, Marx, etc. for details. Irrational mystics all.

A belief in capitalism, on the other hand, is founded on reason; it is clearly the proper political system for man to live under. See Ayn Rand for details.
