Michael Ramirez is a genius, and I always check IBD to see his latest skewering of the left.

One of my favorite Ramirez anti-global warming cartoons is this one; it's one of those groaners with altogether too much truth in its commentary.

Although piracy itself is illegal, it infringes on a pirate's rights to not have appropriate access provided by the larger vessel, surely determined in an Access for Underprivileged Pirates Act from some human rights tribunal somewhere.

I agree that this is not a Democrat Republican thing, however, the only way to realistically reign in their power right now is to divide the government. Meaning elect a Republican House. Otherwise this crap is just going to continue. Once govt is divided, we can start thinking about creating a new party, or better yet, taking the Republican Party back to the days of Reagan and begin to forget the big spending disaster that was the Bush administration.

That's a good point Stirred, but I would argue that injecting capital into the banking system to free up credit is small apple compared to a 10 trillion $$ deficit(and you and I know that's low-balling), but I digress.

Bush may be “first pirate”; and, he should shine as an example of why conservatives shouldn't compromise their values(economically speaking) to appease some so-called moderates that can put them over the top in an election. In the end, submitting to lunacy, if only a little bit, destroys your credibility and any chance of winning in the future.

Both sides of the Congress agreed that it was a step toward social justice.

They have much faster however smaller boats. They fire rockets and/or rocket grenades at the shup, as well as 50 Cal machine guns. They could easily cause death or fire on deck, that's why the larger vessels surrender.
What the larger vessels need are rocket launchers and a 50 cal of their own! I'm shocked that the crew of the ships have not yet mastered the art of the molotov cocktail. Hell, I was born on a Saskatchewan farm, and I can make a molotov cocktaik that would fry those pirates. All you need is a glass whiskey bottle, a birthday cake sparkler and Shell Super unleaded!!
The best however is to have a military presence in the area, along with an armed escort.

The so-called "American free market" hasn't been around for a long while. The disappearance probably goes back to the rise of antitrust, which was 1890 or so ...

Jack Frosst you are absolutely correct. A fifty cal with a thousand rounds would make short work of almost any pirate vessel. The UN can go to hell, the law of the sea supercedes any UN convention and once pirates learn that the most likely outcome is death, pirate raids will, for the most part, end. Of course this would require law abiding nations to grow the gonads to tell the UN to F off, an unlikely senario in Canada as most Canadian politicos are devoid of the aforementioned accessories.

I have a hard time believing that the UN can enforce any laws once the vessels are out of Somalia's borders and into international waters.

PS: My ancestors are from the Channel Islands. We've been fighting pirates since Christ was in kindergarten.
