We are a free country and so I don't see what the problem is. Free speech applies to all Canadians including immigrants. As for why we have so many, it is no different than Toronto having a huge Portuguese community, or a large Ukrainian community in Saskatchewan or Dutch community in Southwestern Ontario. These are not massive countries yet we have large concentrations of these groups who came at different times. We can argue whether we have too much or too little immigration, but our immigration laws should be fair in which nationality and race play no role in deciding who comes and who doesn't, rather it is one's own qualifications that decide if they get in. A Sri Lankan who has a Medical doctor degree should get preference over a white British prospective immigrant who dropped out of high school.

You should know that you have to fact check the Toronto Star. According to Stats Canada 2006 Census, there are 29,245 Tamils in Toronto. That's nowhere close to 200,000. In fact, there are only 34,590 in all of Canada.

According to the CIA Fact Book "more than 200,000 Tamils have sought refuge in the West (July 2009 est.)" I guess Toronto really does think it's the centre of the universe as the Star must have assumed "the West" and "Toronto" are equivalent.

I was on Parliament Hill for the Good Friday procession. About the same number of people in each group. We had a police escort of a few officers. The Tigers were behind the barricades with a phalanx of police. They were quiet and watchful but with an slight air of menace. It felt to me that the Tigers were giving US permission to be there.

The scariest thing about the protest was the Toronto media the day it happened.

All the Toronto stations (radio and TV) were all tripping over themselves to say how "well organized and peaceful" the protest was, and how "they were doing their best not to disturb" the public.

No mention of terrorist flags, in fact, you wouldn't even have known they were flying everywhere unless you were trying to get through it. No mention of what they represent other than "building awareness to stop the conflict in their home country"
