I may not like the idea of Biden as President, but at least he has a past and not just "present".

So this guy meets the president one day and he's dead the next? I wonder what Obama has got that would kill a guy that fast?

SDC, I'd take Biden over Obama any day. Biden is an obvious fool, and so can't really get into much trouble (comparatively). Obama may be an even greater fool than Biden, but he's smoooooooth. The combination is deadly, as we are seeing.

On the bright side, this ful seems not to be super-duper contagious, and moves so fast it can't spread very effectively. That's the first good news I've heard related to Obama in weeks.

Given all the money wasted by governments on really idiotic programs, is there any reason why a strategy to have a massive flu vaccine production facility and the necessary continuous egg production to enable total population immunization within a month of an identified outbreak like this one wouldn't be a good idea? Sure, there would be massive overcapacity and disposal problems until the day the alarm went off, but a few hundred million lives could be saved and massive economic damage avoided.

Or, maybe "last years flu in this year's flu shot will provide some protection" and we will dodge the bullet. Uh huh.

What you suggest is simple and pure common sense, and therefore will never be done until -after- a major pandemic arrives.

You are suggesting that research has already identified the exact causes of swine flu, the nature of its transformation to human habitation, and even, the nature of the immune response and therefore, the nature of the vaccine that can prevent the disease caused by that virus. Are you sure? I doubt it. [Eggs?]Bacteria and viruses want to live too, and they can transform their nature rapidly.

Man isn't as capable of instant control of nature as you might wish.

I work as a resident doctor in one of the biggest hospitals in Mexico City and sadly, the situation is far from "under control". As a doctor, I realise that the media does not report the truth. Authorities distributed vaccines among all the medical personnel with no results, because two of my partners who worked in this hospital (interns) were killed by this new virus in less than six days even though they were vaccinated as all of us were. The official number of deaths is 20, nevertheless, the true number of victims are more than 200. If something happened to O and Biden was president I can see Hillary licking her chops right now. She is like a spider , having spun a comfortable web and waiting to strike at the most opportune time. Pulling strings from behind the curtain suits her much more than actually going through the motions.
I suspect this Swine Flu in all it's virulent forms is a put up job by somebody. IF O got infected accidentally, you can bet those who run him will be very quick to step into his shoes without blinking an eye. Such is the viciousness and opportunism of that party. I am surprised Taliban Jack hasn't insisted on an interview by the administration just in case. After all if a guy from Kenya can scam and hoodwink a whole country , why not Jack?

I can only hope that if The One has been blessed with the virus that he seeks medical treatment in Cuba, as we all know that they have one of the finest government healthcare systems in the world and he and Castro are "tight". Better yet, maybe his homeboy Chavez can help him out.

Last time they used the Swine flu hysteria in 77. They used quick made worldwide vacinations injected with air guns all over the World. Some people from bad batches where paralyzed or killed by it.

You do realize that it's not just CBC reporting on this, right? That WHO is worried, and rightfully so.

Swine flu is currently killing people at a rate twice as high as the Spanish Flu, so if it goes crazy, it stands to kill a lot of people world-wide. Far more than Bin Laden could do with a dozen nukes.

It might be hysteria, but then again... it might not. It's worth a few headlines, even if your average bumkin doesn't think so.
