Freedom Of Speech Is An American Concept

But sliding down a ramp with boards strapped to your feet is a Canadian human right - or so some contend. Under the sub-heading of "don't tease us like this!"

A victory for women's ski jumpers who are trying to get into the 2010 Olympics could spell the end of the Games in Canada, warned a lawyer for the Vancouver Organizing Committee.

"It is very unlikely the Games would be held in Canada again in the foreseeable future" if VANOC departed from its signed contract with the International Olympic Committee, said George Macintosh in a written argument.

VANOC's lawyers on Wednesday opened their rebuttal argument to a lawsuit by 15 elite women athletes who say VANOC is in breach of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

But here's the best part !

VANOC also acknowledged Wednesday the committee's financial and logistical help to the female ski jumpers who are suing them.

That'll teach 'em.

This can't be a gender equality problem - the modern IOC has a history of allowing fake female sports (along with fake females) into the games. Who's advising these girls, anyway? Why go the lawsuit route when the path to Olympic inclusion is as clear and bright as a patch of sunny beach sand?

I actually would like to see women given a chance to engage in any sport they wish. But I don't think that lawsuits are the right course of action.

With that said, I still wonder what will happen one day when a group of men demand to enter a female sporting competition. That's equality too, isn't it?!

Women's sports are unwatchable. When was the last time any of you watched an LPGA event?

If topless volleyball was on I might consider it butt then again maybe I woodn't.

"Why go the lawsuit route when the path to Olympic inclusion is as clear and bright as a patch of sunny beach sand?"

So we agree that topless ski jumping is a fair compromise? Sold.

Silly girls, they should try jumping in bikinis and Playboy Bunny ears....picture it!

Syncro

You have to play by the IOC rules. Sports go in and out all the time, usually with lots of warning. Mostly in the summer olympics. Perhaps these ladies should join the X-games tour, especially if they are jumping in bikinis. They would get at least a few curious viewers.

There's a huge difference between aspirations and rights.

One day, I aspire to have a net worth of $1 million. But, it's not my right.

One day, the ski jumping gals aspire to be the best in the word. But, it's not their right.

If there is any chance that Canada's "right" to incur massive cost overruns from incompetent governments while footing the bill to host an Olympics can be withdrawn, all I have to say is:

Go for it!

I wonder how difficult it would be to make and sell Charter of Rights and Freedoms toilet paper?
Because I really would like to wipe my ass with that egregious piece of Turdeau pap, especially after a night of heavy beer drinking, and I bet I'm not alone.

Hang tough folks, pretty soon we will have the gays suing for a gay category in Olympic sport since they more or less fall into the in between male and female gender. Sort of a gender free olympic category.

But the one I am waiting for and will watch for sure will be the Obese Olympics for the fat athlete who has convinced the world that it's glandular and that shouldn't hold them back.

You would be hard pressed to find that glandular condition in say ... Africa or India. That will narrow the field, no pun intended.

Don't have to wait long,Robert.
GIRLS can now join BOY Scouts,BUT boys can't join GIRL Scouts. They tried, and were told NO WAY.You see,WASP MEN CANNOT be discriminated against, only everybody else. And we have nobody to blame but ourselves!

The IOC has a procedure for deciding which sports are included. One of the criteria is number of athletes who participate in the sport in how many countries. Instead of lawyering up these lazy chicks should be out promoting their sport in as many countries as possible - grassroots organizing to get as many girls flying off the ramps as they possibly can. Since this would require actual work with actual measurable results these so called feminists would just rather whine about discrimination and get the reward handed to them without the effort. Its seems of have worked in every other endeavor so why not the Olympics?

Skiing in your bathing suit is only recommended in May or June near the end of the season.

One might observe that "OVARIES GOT GAME".

The beach volleyball pics were, shall we say 'cheeky'.

Or maybe the ski-jumpers need a better protest sign like:

"REAL WOMEN CAN JUMP!"

Well, I'm just about to get my lawsuit off the ground with regard to the men's hockey team. I feel I have a right to play for my country, even though I'm not very good.

They're discriminating against me because, well, I suck.

That's not fair and I have my rights.

What does it take to have 'lawyer tossing' made an Olympic event?

"I actually would like to see women given a chance to engage in any sport they wish."

No one is stopping these women from ski-jumping so that's not the issue. What they want is for someone to provide them with a competition.

And my nasty thought for the day: The tax-payer dollars that would come their way once they're Olympic athletes might have a tiny bit to do their lawsuit as well.

Let them compete. What's the big deal. The dictators on the IOC board say there are not enough countries that are competitive in the sport yet they approved women's hockey in which there are only two competitive nations. Beach volleyball, which is nothing more than a competion designed to allow brain-cramped, drooling idiots to watch women jump around in bathing suits, is an approved Olympic sport.
As for Mr. Macintosh's statement that this lawsuit will preclude Canada from ever hosting the Olympic Games in the future: all I, and a majority of BC residents can say is thank god!

Hey just a heads up, I wanted to let everyone know that Xio Dibin speaks English. I hope I posted in the right location?

Anyone know (or guess) how these women are financing this lawsuit? It can't be coming from Sports Canada, can it?

HT to Kate for that beach link, not what I expected (thought it would be a satellite photo of the Antarctic coast).

Justhinkin,

Maybe Islam does have it right.

The good thing is though it doesn't matter how many join boy scouts or boy's hockey teams they will never grow a penis.

Personally years ago I started a men's club that a woman has never been to or never seen the interior of. It's an irritation to my wife but strangely enough my daughter is in agreement with it.

I'm not a mysoginist but totally pissed at many of my male friends being passed over for promotion solely because they're male. Where's the GD HRC when you really need them?

I'm with gobidesert. There are procedures if you want a new sport to be included in the Olympics. Every sport now represented has entered via the proper channels but now, since it's girls who want in, the procedures are suddenly sexist or something. Lawfare will be the end of common sense.

"ever hosting the Olympic Games in the future"
No worries about that for Saskatchewan! (note to self: good choice to live here!) Vancouver was ruined after Expo 86. I shudder to think what the sequelae of the 2010 Olympics will be. The irony is who actually gets to go to these things? Tickets were nearly impossible for the average joe to acquire and at that they cost a fortune.

Hey, they added synchronized swimming to give women another "event" in which to compete; this is just a winterized version of that.

Me, I'm training and waiting for the demonstration sport Team Bar-B-Q, where I could represent my country with pride.

Swifter. Higher. Stronger. Spicier and Not Charred.

Hail, Olympia!!

Not much to add except that VANOC is a 'Canadian' entity and therefore may be subject to the Charter. Sheesh! :-(

Personally, I believe in the dictum: "You Go Girl." As said above, women's hockey only has two competitive teams. I mean, how long would it take others to become competitive? How many countries had a portfolio of competitive 'Rhythmic Gymnasts' before that sport became official?

On the subject of overlawyering, there is a great site to that effect at 'overlawyered.com'...by comparison, what these 15 women are doing is almost normal!

While strapping a pair of boards on your feet and hurtling off into space is not exactly my idea of a sport in the mass participation sort of way, I would urge those of the female gender want to do it, get off the phone with their lawyers and get out and build grass roots support. Get Olympic status through hard work and effort. I might be wrong but I don't think that freeboard skiing sued their way into the Olympics.

Beach vollyball, while it does take some skill and athletics, is nothing more than entertainment (for watchers of both sexes) designed to attract viewers to an otherwise money losing world event. Like those BMX bike things, they are trying to attract new revenue... errr blood to the Olympic movement.

For the record I do and will always look and admire any lovely female form, in a bikini or not. It's the way I'm wired.

I recall the last Olympics. I would have bet real money I would never see this moment in my life, but I actually got tired of watching woman's beach volleyball. But anyway....Want a new sport in the Olympics it has to be popular. So go make it popular.

IOC EDICT

All competitions are now open to all qualifiers.
Gender will no longer be a consideration.
Teams will be chosen strictly on competitive excellence.

Feel better now gals?

Ive been lobbying for pole dancing vrs pole vaulting for women myself.

John @ 10:37 .I agree with your reasoning. The olimpics are as big a scam as Globe bull Warming.

Cal2

Would these Olympian pole dancers be wearing playboy bunny ears?

Syncro

and they can get rid of that slow moving wymyms hockey too.

a brutally silly looking version of bantam skill level.

Does VANOC control what sports are competed in the 2010 Winter Games? Or is that an issue controlled by the IOC? I suspect the latter.

Take another look at the beach volleyball pictures and tell yourself again: "it's all about sports".
My humble opinion says: "follow the money", but I'm just an old Redneck; pay no attention.

This exercise in futility (I hope, stick to your guns IOC) demonstrates the entitlement mentality of so many special interest groups.

A Charter Right!!! Give me a break!

Once this two week Olympic thrill is over and gone, we're going to be stuck with paying the bill for years.

Expo 86 put Vancouver "on the map", and we really didn't need another circus to put "Vancouver on the map" as politicians keep telling us.

The money would have been better spent on infrastructure, than on a fancy highway to a millionaire's playground in Whistler.

Anybody here have to commute on the Lower Mainland's pathetic joke of a "Freeway" lately?

"Women's sports are unwatchable. When was the last time any of you watched an LPGA event?

If topless volleyball was on I might consider it butt then again maybe I woodn't."

It's hard to tell ... Those female athletes, like the male athletes, are so fanatical about having no body fat that you can't tell a female chest from a male one. :-(

If they actually manage to chase the olympics out of this country, for good, why, they deserve the Order of Canada! How can I help them chase the olympics out? What aid can I give them? Where do I send the check?

Hey I think Kevin Lafayette is on to something.

Is it too late for the Olympic Committee to pull the Vancouver Games? Somewhere someone owing for when they had them may be willing to take them off our hands. The highway is fixed..call it even.

GREAT link. Thanks Kate:)

The Olympics are dead to me! Ever since they changed the boxing scoring to that ridiculous electronic system. Okay, I'll tune in for gymnastics, track & field and some other goodies, but only because REAL SPORTS are on break until fall.

I went to school, and now work with some competitive volleyball players; and they assure me it's a sport, even though I argue to the contrary. Ironically world class volleyball players commonly leave high level volleyball to play beach volleyball instead. It pays better.

BTW, what are they(women) supposed to wear? Athletic women are hot. Deal with it! IMO it's discrimination to criticize women athletes for grunting in tennis, or wearing athletic gear because their “too hot”. God forbid some men might be watching(and we all know who's b*tching).

Has anyone noticed that Canadian sports media is constantly telling us how the Woman's Hockey Olympic Gold means so much to Canadians? From reading the comments here I can see that many people are in agreement with me about Woman's Hockey and the Olympics.

OT/ I know it's politically incorrect, but I think allowing women into the Hockey Hall of Fame hurts the halls credibility. Call me what you want, but time will tell. For the record, I enjoy women's tennis; so, I'm not all that bad.

olympics. who gives a rats ass.

IOC is a bunch of money grubbing crooks.
They incur massive costs, pocket whats left and the governments are stuck with the bill, why in gods name would you want them here anyway?.
The mafia can even give you a better deal.
Peter

now heres one rumour that Ive heard for a long time but sport Canada isnt likely to comment on. The female olympic team get impregnated a few months before the olympics to get their blood platelet count to increase "naturally" and thereby increase the oxygen uptake. seems so East German wanting to win at the cost of human lives ( after)

not stirred. i want to join.

So pretty soon, Canada will be a country where everyone has the right to ski-jump and nobody has the right to criticize Richard Warman. Figures.

As far as I'm concerned it's not too late to cancel the entire Olympics. Biggest financial rip-off in history. Beats the South Sea Bubble, Madoff's Ponzi Scheme and anything else I can think of.

I vote we cancel them NOW!!!

I'm with Mike et al in wanting to see the IOC FO, sooner rather than later.
The scam run on we B.C.ers will go down in history as second only to Montreal. We'll be paying for this shite for decades.

Re Kate's link; this is sooo wrong http://funnyforwards.net/fp_images/volleyball8405.jpg
;)

Why in the world do you need two separate categories for SKI JUMPING?? It's not as if men have some inherent advantage at this particular "sport".

The fact that the Vancouver Olympic Committee is financing the legal challenge against itself is the real story.
The VANOC is obviously controlled by the normal gang of 'progressive' bureaucrats that haunt our many government departments and programs.
Litigation lawyers are in no economic peril, they've simply started having public bodies sue themselves and each other.
Seems right to me, these same progressives have been very successful towards eliminating any profits from private bodies.
The government's where the money's is.

The culture of this nation has been made so dysfunctionally neurotic it is an act of intellectual masochism to read the news daily.

@Edward Teach

I finally figured out your 'nom-de-plume' (I knew I had seen it somewhere).

Duh on me, nice nick.
