My contrarian streak insists that I note that in 1934 the government could afford to spend on things like infrastructure (highways etc) that didn't exist back then and that have been hugely beneficial to the American economy since, proving Keynes partially right.

Both sides are playing the parts that were written a long time ago. We didnt end up in a dictatorship then, and I don't think we will now. It might be more insidious than that, Obama is trying to turn the US into Canada.

An incremental, moderate acheivment power with Universal health Care, enough regulation to let the elites run hings rather than people. Problem is his system of government won't support it. You need regular majorities and the power that brings to forge the elite consensus you need to acheive that.

If 2010 reinforces his power then he will move faster but I suspect 2010 will trim it, just because thats what Americans do, they know their self interest.

FDR was a weak fool - he was so enamoured with himself that he went to the Yalta Conference, where the winners of WWII divvied up the spoils of war, (when he was way to sick to be out of bed) and handed the nations of E. Europe over to the tender mercy's of Stalin. Churchill objected but Britain was out of men and out of ammo; my mom (who was there at the time) told me that the soldiers wanted to soldier on and take down Stalin but FDR wanted to die 'in peace'. That selfish man doomed all the people in E. Europe to 50 years of torture, hunger, prison camps, HRDC type rules for speech...all because they helped us fight the 'other ' fiend Dictator, Hitler.

The ungrateful British people elected the Bolshevik Party in Britain to thank the PM who had saved their sorry hides...the Americans did the same to GW Bush...and the nasty nature of the mob continues...
