The rings were probably formed relatively recently - several thousand years ago - when two of Saturn's satellites crashed together. The ring systems of the other gas giants probably formed the same way, only much earlier, which is why they are mostly gone; most of their rings have fallen into their planet's atmosphere. In about 100,000,000 years, Saturn's rings will probably be gone, too. Man's fault.
Another interesting property of Saturn is how it generates heat. As seen in the table below, the average temperature of Saturn is approximately -143C. However, due to the equation for thermal equilibrium, it should only be about -193C. Man's fault.
Why this blog? Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice
of an ordinary Canadian
yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."
homepage email Kate (goes to a private
mailserver in Europe)
I can't answer or use every
tip, but all are
appreciated!

Holy hell, woman. When you
send someone traffic,
you send someone TRAFFIC.
My hosting provider thought
I was being DDoSed. -

THAT, is something else.
It just doesn't get any better then these pics. Simply beautiful.
The shots were taken from afar, yes, but still, why do the rings appear so smooth and defined ?? Not jagged and rough and irregular. Incredible !
If there were a bathtub big enough to fit Saturn in, the planet would float.
Saturn is basically one big atmosphere - as far as we know, there is no real surface to the planet. Its composition is nearly all H2. Man's fault.

Fascinating and beautiful.
Such optical wonders to stimulate the mind.
And if you look at Saturn through a telescope right now, it looks like a big cigar!
At this point, we should have Vitruvius start up SDA Late Night Radio with Gustav Holst's "Saturn: Bringer of Old Age".
My favourite by far is Jupiter: Bringer of Jolity.
What hath God wrought!
Amazing. Those NASA guys rock! They can even do cool stuff like this suffering under the Hanson handicap.
It's like scoring a touchdown in the superbowl after your own coach breaks your leg.
So beautiful and profound, they're hard to conceptualize.
Well done.
New missions to Europa, Venus and the moon should be next...
It would seem to me, hydrogen could be easily liberated from the methane rivers of Titan...
