Who Is This “John Galt”?

QOTW from Michael Caine;

“The Government has taken tax up to 50 per cent, and if it goes to 51 I will be back in America, We’ve got 3.5 million layabouts on benefits, and I’m 76, getting up at 6am to go to work to keep them.”

Although, taking one’s wealth from Tony Blair’s Britain to Big Owe’s America is like an egg leaning out over the edge of the pan, threatening to jump.
More…it’s always heartening to see a successful man from a humble background being badmouthed by a Stalin groupie from a privileged background. “

Wait. He who would heal the planet can’t heal Detroit?

Chrysler, one of the three pillars of the American auto industry, will file for bankruptcy today after last-minute negotiations between the government and the automaker’s creditors broke down last night, an Obama administration official said.
U.S. officials had offered Chrysler’s secured lenders $2.25 billion in cash if they would agree to writedown the $6.9 billion in secured debt that the company owed. But a small group of hedge funds refused the 11th-hour deal, forcing an imminent bankruptcy.

But not to worry. It’s just so they can get more money from us.

Imitation Is The Highest Form Of Flattery

Margaret Wente channels SDA;

Don’t worry, people. There’s no need for panic. Swine flu has reached the phase 5 alert level, which is bad but not disastrous. Barack Obama is on top of it. He has gone on TV to reassure us we don’t need to close the schools yet, just some of them. He’s banker-in-chief and car salesman-in-chief, and now he’s the public health officer-in-chief. Is there nothing this man can’t do?

A petition directed at Keith “Bailout” Olbermann;

While General Electric, the parent-company of your MSNBC network, was negotiating a $126 billion taxpayer-funded bailout, you signed a new contract raising your salary from $4 million to $7.5 million annually. You have used your show as a platform to call for the resignation of corporate executives accepting excessive bonuses on the backs of taxpayers who are picking up the tab for these atrocious bailouts, yet you yourself have no problem engaging in the same “class economic rape” that you access them of.
Please heed you own advice and stop accepting taxpayer money to subsidize your nightly diatribes. Resign or return the balance of your excessive raise to the U.S. Treasury.

This is getting to be way too easy….

A new Australian record was set early this morning, a temperature of minus 13 degrees, at Charlotte Pass on the Snowy Mountains.
This is the lowest temperature recorded anywhere in Australia in April and is 13 below the average. Nearby at Perisher it dipped to minus 11 degrees and at the top of Thredbo it dipped to minus 10.
Across the border, on the Victorian Alps April records were broken at Mt Hotham where it chilled to minus eight degrees and Mt Buller and Falls Creek where it got as low as minus seven.

Throw a shrimp on the ski lift!

Australia’s Mt. Buller is opening its ski resort to the public five weeks ahead of schedule this Saturday and Sunday, for skiing and snowboarding on the 35 cm (14 inches) of early snowfall blanketing the ski area.
“This is the earliest we’ve opened a lift and ski run in the history of Mt. Buller resort. The closest was 45 years ago when we opened on the 16th of May in 1964,” said Laurie Blampied, General Manager of Buller Ski Lifts. “It’s so exciting to have such early and extensive falls so we decided to seize the opportunity, open up early for a special weekend and share it with everyone.”

See? Earth Day really can make a difference!

Good evening, welcome to Wednesday’s Late Nite Radio. Tonight, we present an old folk music standard called She Moved Through The Fair. Commonly believed to be a traditional song, it is in fact a hybrid of sorts: in 1905 Composer and musicologist Herbert Hughes transcribed an old Irish air he’d heard on his travels, and later collaborated with Irish Poet Padraic Colum in writing/arranging the song in its current form.
Here then, without further ado, Anne Briggs performs a lovely, haunting version of She Moved Through The Fair.

Bingo And Lawn Ornaments And Reroofing The Mendel Art Gallery, Oh My

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) is calling for the federal government to shut down the department of Western Economic Diversification;

Since 1987, the department has handed out over $3.9-billion in funding to various organizations, businesses, governments and individuals through a number of grant and loan programs. A mere 51.8% of “loans” have ever been paid back.
“Over the years there has been a striking correlation between the department’s spending spikes and the timing of federal elections,” said CTF Manitoba director Colin Craig. “It’s too bad that legitimate projects have to wait for an election in order to receive funding. The fact that the department funds everything from airport lighting to cemeteries doesn’t help its reputation as a ‘catch all’ political slush fund either.”
“It’s quite a stretch to call some of these payments ‘loans’ when the government barely even collects half of the dollars back,”

Is there nothing that Obama don’t know?

Federal officials knew that sending two fighter jets and Air Force One to buzz ground zero and Lady Liberty might set off nightmarish fears of a 9/11 replay, but they still ordered the photo-op kept secret from the public.
In a memo obtained by CBS 2 HD the Federal Aviation Administration’s James Johnston said the agency was aware of “the possibility of public concern regarding DOD (Department of Defense) aircraft flying at low altitudes” in an around New York City. But they demanded total secrecy from the NYPD, the Secret Service, the FBI and even the mayor’s office and threatened federal sanctions if the secret got out.

Bingo!

The people who populate the Obama administration really don’t believe in 9/11. They may have read about it, They may know intellectually that it happened. But they view it the same way we may view a lightning strike that hits an isolated golfer: a billion-in-one shot that “just happened.” That’s why the Obama team is renaming the attacks of 9/11 as “man-caused disasters” putting it on the same moral plane as an auto wreck. That’s why the Obama team is not really concerned about revealing what we do to interrogate prisoners with vital information. They don’t believe we haven anything to worry about. Unlike the people who evacuated their buildings during the fly-bys and who ran for their lives, believing that they were under another attack. For Team Obama, it’s always 9/10.

Dippers just can’t help themselves.

NDP health critic Judy Wasylycia-Leis described the Conservative minister’s gesture as a new experience — “quite a shock, actually.”
(…)
“For a rookie minister, she’s on top of this file and she’s responded very effectively,” said Wasylycia-Leis. “She’s probably one of the better rookie MPs in the House.”
(…)
“My only concern is that the government may not want her to get on top of the file, just keep her very narrowly focused and avoid opening up any kind of possibilities about their responsibilities on national pharmacare, national home care as well as preserving the Canada Health Act.” – CTV

This would be what we call damning with faint praise. In a news item that highlights how our servants are supposed to work during a crisis, we get partisan BS from a hack.
