Carol Platt Liebau was first female managing editor of the Harvard Law Review;
It reminds me a little bit of my experience with him when he was president of the Harvard Law Review. You know, I hesitated to say a lot about this during the campaign because I really thought maybe it wasn't fair. That maybe, finally, when he got to be President, this would be a job big enough to engage and hold Barack Obama's sustained interest, because really, is there a bigger job out here?
[...]
[W]hen he was at the HLR you did get a very distinct sense that he was the kind of guy who much more interested in being the president of the Review, than he was in doing anything as president of the Review.
A lot of the time he quote/unquote "worked from home", which was sort of a shorthand - and people would say it sort of wryly - shorthand for not really doing much. He just wasn't around. Most of the day to day work was carried out by the managing editor of the Review, my predecessor, a great guy called Tom Pirelli whose actually going to be one of the assistant attorney generals now.
He's the one who did most of the day to day work. Barack Obama was nowhere to be seen. Occasionally he would drop in he would talk to people, and then he'd leave again as though his very arrival had been a benediction in and of itself, but not very much got done.
So, you know, you see that and you think, gosh, maybe that's the way the guy operates, hut then you figure ok, obviously he always had his eye on bigger and better things.
But now he's President...there really isn't a bigger or better thing.

Wonderful. We've got a narcissist as President. Just what we need in times like these.
Yeah, I love how Obama's supporters bring up his law review stint as an actual "thing" on his resume.
Ann Coulter ran a paper at Cornell, right? So... :-)
You have to cut him some slack; he obviously didn't have access to a teleprompter at that time. ;-)
Where are the reporters interviewing all of the people who grew up and went to school and worked with Obama?
Don't the words of your friends also say something about you?
The interviews of the McCain friends during election time were quite moving, when they were tearing up talking about how great a man he was during training days and as a POW
Where. Are. The. Reporters?
Not reporting, perhaps, because their channel has to sell commercial time for the Obama commemorative plates?
There’s nothing unusual about a President or CEO not being in the office directing goings on. After all that’s my job (VP of Operations). Any President I’ve worked for has never been in the office more than a few hours per week. Their job is the big picture stuff; giving talks, planning company direction, mergers and acquisitions, etc. A good President knows this and gets out of the way rather than micro-manage.
People who’ve never worked corporate don’t have any idea how an executive office is structured. This will be evident as SDA sheeple post naïve comments in this thread. I give Barrack an A+ for doing his job. He’s in the media on a daily basis and those who care to listen know exactly what’s going on during his ‘watch’.
Funny, "not stirred enough", every President and CEO of every company I've worked for has been in the office making tough decisions the vast majority of each week. I work in an engineering field...what field do YOU work in?
I summarize your comment as "Gnuk, gnuk, gnuk, gulp, slobber...I love you Barrack...gnuk, gnuk".
Not stirred enough....
You have explained very succinctly the decline and fall of American business.
The story of the President of the New York Central who reporters found helping the engineer dig out his locomotive stuck in a snow bank seems somehow quaint in the wonderful world of form, not substance which so characterizes too many of today's companies.
"...big picture stuff; giving talks, planning company direction, mergers and acquisitions, etc." Kind of Ironic in the light of current stock prices.
Apparently, Barrack's method for the HLR was markedly different from his predecessors', otherwise this wouldn't be an issue.
Hope is dead on the left. Fear has conquered.
Wretchard posts:
"Camile Paglia at Salon thinks that Obama’a “flacks, fixers and goons — his posse of smirky smart alecks and provincial rubes” are letting him down."
But, Camille say, "President Obama -- in whom I still have great hope and confidence --"
Camille say, "President Obama should yank the reins and get his staff's noses out of slash-and-burn petty politics. His own dignity and prestige are on the line."
But, Camille say, "President Obama -- in whom I still have great hope and confidence --"
Wretchard goes on ... "But at what point are people going to start wondering to what extent Obama’s “flacks, fixers and goons”, his “smirky smart alecks” emanate from the center of power rather than unfortunately attaching themselves to it? The question’s not being asked yet, but it’s in the air,".

"But now he's President...there really isn't a bigger or better thing."
Au contraire,Carol. How do you expect him to be president of the U.N. under its new role of one world government,if he doesn't have POTUS on his resume?
This brings up a point made by one of the few true journalists in USA MSM.....my memory fails me as to which one of the two......
"They sent 30+ "investigative journalists" to Alaska to dig up dirt on Pallin but never sent anyone to Chicago........."
"Any President I’ve worked for has never been in the office more than a few hours per week'
And in my experience these are the first companies to fail. Even a snake needs a head.
Hey Carol, thanks for the heads up there, eh? Day late and a dollar short though it may be.
not stirred enough said, said: "He’s in the media on a daily basis and those who care to listen..."
stirred, you listen to the media? Daily? Well there's your problem!
Not stirred enough, if you can prove that the "Chosen One" was busy doing something constructive for the organisation he worked for, please do. Otherwise, Obama is just like Michael Moore: a liar, a poser, a fraud, a useless piece of machinery.
not stirred enough - I don't know what field you are in, but a majority of Presidents/CEOs are most certainly in their office, planning and organizing and reviewing.
Did you know that the duties of the President of the Harvard Law Review, a student journal, don't involve 'mergers and acquisitions'? Or 'planning company direction'? I bet you didn't know that.
The Harvard Law Review is a journal. Not a company. It publishes eight issues per year of legal articles. Do you know what that requires from the 'president'? He hands out the submitted articles to the 80 reviewers, mediates the submissions and assists the working editors to put the journal together. That means that he ought to be in the office.
So, when someone writes that Obama was not merely rarely in the office during his year as president, but handed over most of the 'grunt work' to someone else - I think it ought to 'ring a warning bell'. Why? Because that's exactly how he behaves as President of the USA.
No policies, no program, no direction. Just endless campaigning as if, yes, as if his very presence is to be viewed as a 'benediction' for us all.
"So, you know, you see that and you think, gosh, maybe that's the way the guy operates, hut then you figure ok, obviously he always had his eye on bigger and better things.
But now he's President...there really isn't a bigger or better thing."
Obama obviously wants to be God.
'not stirred enough' sounds like they've only been around crown corporations, IMHO.
Wake up......he's doing what all Presidents do.
Maybe with just alittle more class.
He says what we all want him to say.
Now it's up to us to make it happen.
It's all good until 2012.
The magic number 2012 seems to come up a lot these days.
Not stirred enough: "There’s nothing unusual about a President or CEO not being in the office directing goings on. After all that’s my job (VP of Operations)."
I don't know what kind of organization you're the VPO for, but I can tell you that someone who runs an academic journal absolutely cannot operate in the way that you've described -- just as a real academic and scholar at a research institution like the University of Chicago can't get away without conducting research and publishing the results.
It looks as though these two positions -- president of the HLR and university lecturer -- held little meaning to him except bullets on his CV and the chance to make social/professional connections. "Careerist" is the term that comes to mind.
It's a fascinating recording recording!
ldd, I think you hit pay dirt with that one.

I like: "Occasionally he would drop in... and then he'd leave again as though his very arrival had been a benediction in and of itself."
"Where are the reporters interviewing all of the people who grew up and went to school and worked with Obama?" -- This is definitely one of the unsettling things about Obama. There was one documentary about him, but as I recall, it was rather short on comments from people who knew him. One woman who benefited from his community organizing was interviewed . . . then there was his sister. Nobody really knows this guy.
During the nomination convention, it was noted that his wife introduced him -- a bit unusual. Usually collegues, other well known politicians . . people who have known you for years and can testify about what a great person you are provide introductions / testimonials. Unfortunately, that may have required Reverend Wright, Blago, Ayers, Rezko etc. to speak on behalf of Obama.
Similarly (and equally sinister): there is no paper record -- no school records, articles he's written, passport documentation etc. He is a complete unknown except for what he has chosen to include in his "autobiography" which we assume has some authenticity -- though actual authorship here has been questioned by some, specifically because we have no other examples of his writing. Why did he never publish an article in the Harvard Law Review -- or anywhere?
In the real world, Spoon, corporate executives spend more time in the office than the staffers. At this organization, the EVPO regularly works seven long days a week and wouldn't have it any other way. The CEO works at least six. This doesn't count all the extracurricular activity expected of them as directors of local charity and university boards, lobbying trips, inspection trips - you name it. With the economic downturn, they're working even more and asking the same of us which we're all happy to deliver. While I frequently grumble about this outfit, there's no question that the management team is on the ball and has to be to maintain or position in the industry, good economy or otherwise.
Ode to Barrack Hussein Obama
Up in the morning out on my job work like a devil for my pay
And that lucky Hussein ain't got nothing to do but roll around heaven all day
Fuss with my woman toil with my kids sweat till I'm wrinkled and gray
But that lucky Hussein ain't got nothing to do but roll around heaven all day
Lord above can't you see I'm cryin' tears are in my eyes
Sendin' down my cloud with that silvery linin' take me to paradise
Show me that river lead me across take all my troubles away
Like that lucky Hussein he got nothing to do but roll around heaven all day
Like that lucky Hussein he got nothing to do but roll around heaven all day
The old adage about dogs chasing cars but not being able to drive, applies to President Obama.
A great orator and campaigner, he seems lost as to how to approach the job of President. Since he lacks any relevant executive experience, he should have appointed top level executives to manage. It's almost 4 months since the election, and longer since his win was likely, so where is his team? Apparently he still has several hundred jobs to fill, there must be some qualified Democrats whose taxes are up to date. He could well copy the Reagan approach, appoint top officials and concentrate on the spokesman role.
He loses credibility everytime he complains about the problems he inhereted from G W Bush. Reagan did not complain of the mess Jimmy Carter left him, nor did Roosevelt dwell on the failings of the Hoover administration.
I think he is discovering that being Prsident is not like a Community Organiser only bigger. He has received a free pass from the MSM up till now,he must get on with the job.
I agree with Maz, Obama is a text book example of a Narcissist. He can't handle any form of critizism, notice how he personally contacts reporters to set them straight on his socialist leanings. I've always suspect he's just the front man for an elite group what they have planned I do not know. The US is poised to lose it's status as the World's leading superpower because of Obama's stimulus package. If the US can't pay back the money they effectively will be owned by China, how scary is that?
Didn't he do the same thing in his elected offices before, i.e. hardly ever show up or show up late or only vote present. So it was not just with the Harvard Law Review that he wanted all the credit but not the sweat work.
I miss W. and I really miss McCain. He wouldn't put up with the Chinese screwing around with American ships.
Paraphrasing Kate, is there ANYTHING Obama can do that's clean, straight forward, and above board, notwithstanding Buffoon Biden's claim that he is a "nice clean" young man.
Apparently, judging from several comments on other threads, I'm not the only conspiracy maniac on this subject.
If not a Manchurian, a Mansurian candidate maybe? Obama's Harvard Years: Questions Swirl.
Not Stirred Enough - yeah, your Doofus has been in the media all right, mostly instilling fear in the public, so he can play his little social experiment games. Buffet is finally starting to see through the guy. As for your description of a President's duties, what business are you in? Ad agency perhaps, Liberals as your main client? Provide the firm name, so we can short the stock if it's a public company. Now get back to the true sheeple at rabble, you troll.
Rose, one theory is that inasmuch as the proletariat did not rebel and push communism through with a violent revolution, other measures have been invented.
Marxist theory only explains the lack of revolutionary zeal by the proletariat with the idea of a petit bourgeois proletariat. That is, Jake and the rest of the crew down at the plant would like to find time for the revolution, but they're too busy out on the lake with their bass boat, with the inevitable bourgeois barbeque to follow.
In other words, a proletariat that has been massaged with a certain amount of status and material comforts that keep them from rebelling. (This is all utter nonsense, of course, but that's the theory.)
So without a cooperative proletariat commies have come up with the idea that if you can get enough people thinking that government control, regulation, and subsidies are a good and right thing, you can manipulate the proletariat into being favorable to communist policies.
With Obama's connection to Bill Ayers and the radical new left intelligentsia and underground, it has been suggested that in some way agents of the new left have a tremendous influence on his decision making.
I'm with idd - betcha dollars to donuts stirred is with a cushy Crown Corp (or maybe GM?)
I thought Liebau's defining comment was when she noted that the stimulus package should have been done totally by him and his team as this document is critical to America's and the world's economic future. Any new president would have gone through this line by line and made sure it met his and the congress approval before present it.
This package should have had his stamp on it from the beginning instead of allowing Pelosi and Reid to do it.
ET your analysis seems bang on so far.
obama, the half black magic negro, african, commie. voters, just plain stupid and that goes for all the so called brilliant assholes who voted for him. reap what you have sown idiots.
Next up: Mao Stlong say, pless confelence not on agenda. Too lisky.

"Obama to meet with China's Yang on Thursday" (yahOO)
"This package should have had his stamp on it from the beginning instead of allowing Pelosi and Reid to do it."
His job is not to DO things.
His ignorance of the subject matter is too great: even he understands that.
His job is to SELL thing to the suckers.
It's his only skill.
Unfortunately he's very good at it.
Surprise, surprise, surprise. An empty suit that speaks a lot but says nothing. Nothing has changed much, he is just trying to organize a bigger community without any details or substance. Nothing is ever thought through, just lofty ideas. Present, nothing more. How many days has it been and all the "team" isn't even picked yet let alone ready to rock.
Anyone who actually paid attention to the election campaign has already seen this stuff.
I think not stirred said he was VP of a nonprofit organization. food bank? recyling depot? something small enough to be VP ops and still do the toilets.
@ not stirred enough:
Even if what you are saying about CEO's is true (which it isn't) Obama was apparently at "home working".
That means he did the same thing he did as Senator. Nothing.
not stirred. You must work in HR otherwise it would matter. When your business consists of PC rhetoric there really is nothing to do cuz someone else is paying..non-sustainable.
NEW YORK TIMES Published: February 6, 1990
First Black Elected to Head Harvard's Law Review
---
The new president of the Review is Barack Obama, a 28-year-old graduate of Columbia University who spent four years heading a community development program for poor blacks on Chicago's South Side before enrolling in law school.
---
Change in Selection System
Mr. Obama was elected after a meeting of the review's 80 editors that convened Sunday and lasted until early this morning, a participant said.
Until the 1970's the editors were picked on the basis of grades, and the president of the Law Review was the student with the highest academic rank. Among these were Elliot L. Richardson, the former Attorney General, and Irwin Griswold, a dean of the Harvard Law School and Solicitor General under Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard M. Nixon.
That system came under attack in the 1970's and was replaced by a program in which about half the editors are chosen for their grades and the other half are chosen by fellow students after a special writing competition. The new system, disputed when it began, was meant to help insure that minority students became editors of The Law Review.
Her reasons for hesitating to speak up before are not good ones, or reasonable given the stakes or nature of the Left and the threats they pose. Anyway, this was not uncommon knowledge either at Harvard or at his other positions. Not great attention span, poor work ethic, projects unfinished.
Funny Obozo tshirts for the Conservative who has everything... ht/ the corner
Welcome Back Carter
Stir,
"A+ for doing his job"? Let's take out the domestic portion and focus on a big piece of the president's job, Foreign Policy. Would you say he had a smashing success with the recent British PM's visit? How about Eastern Europe with his "secret" letter to the Russians? How did that work out? Why are the Germans, who gave him that big rally in Berlin, and the British all of a sudden throttling way back on the love? How about trying to ignite a trade war with the EU, including the Left's beloved French, over protective tarrifs? How about basically licking Iran's ass and getting laughed at? North Korea? China? Syria? I could possibly see the President throttling back if he had a full team staffed with competent people, but he has neither. Who's vetting all these tax dodgers and people with obvious conflicts of interest? Obamas and his crew are in over their heads and it shows.
"Any President I’ve worked for has never been in the office more than a few hours per week"..in any large company, there are multiple facilities. Perhaps he is in one of the *other* offices, or one of the factories. Or maybe he's visiting a customer or a supplier.
I don't think the HLR has branch offices, and while it probably has suppliers (printing, paper), I seriously doubt that Obama was visiting these.
You say you're a VP of Operations...one thing that bothers me about Obama is that he has no experience in Operations of any kind, doesn't understand how hard it is, and almost certainly does not respect it.
Webbhog,
I hope you were being sarcastic about "Maybe with just alittle more class." Do you consider the recent British PM visit was accomplished with "class"? I think even people living in a trailer park would have conducted the visit with more class.
"Wake up......he's doing what all Presidents do." Only if their name is Jimmy Carter. I loathed Clinton, but at least he didn't embarrass the country with such low class with visiting dignitaries. Also, even if I completey disagreed with his agenda, he was at least seen to be running things and didn't look to be in over his head.
""
I agree without your post Greg. The socialist love a nice faux hoax to rally the masses to the government tit. Obama's just the mistro, who's the band is the question I'd like anwered.

you're VPoO and you are posting in this blog at 207 PM, one has to wonder, should the "president" not be there to kick your a$$ and make you do the job you are not doing??????
If I was doing an analysis of your "company" and discovered this management flaw, I would recommend your dismissal!!
Har! The more you learn about Barack Obama you will see that there is less and less there is worth knowing.
I'm just glad right now that I am NOT an American Citizen.
Although already paying for the fallout of the LIberal idiots who populate the US political scene and especially those within the governments....
I'd likely be looking at a lot worse if I'd made my move as planned a few years ago.
Theres a lot more of the "hopey change" stuff coming down the pipe along with huge helpings of "Yes we can(t)"
A lot of the time he quote/unquote "worked from home", which was sort of a shorthand - and people would say it sort of wryly - shorthand for not really doing much. He just wasn't around.

What a perfect description of my Boss.
On the other hand, forget about Not Stirred, his nose is so far up Obama's butt if Bama took a left turn it would break his neck.
