Y2Kyoto: Real Scientists Sell Carbon Credits

Christopher Booker on the real catastrophe hanging over us;

[T]he name of the game last week, as we see from a sample of quotations, was to win headlines by claiming that everything is far worse than previously supposed. Sea level rises by 2100 could be "much greater than the 59cm predicted by the last IPCC report". Global warming could kill off 85 per cent of the Amazon rainforest, "much more than previously predicted". The ice caps in Greenland and Antarctica are melting "much faster than predicted". The number of people dying from heat could be "twice as many as previously predicted".

None of the government-funded scientists making these claims were particularly distinguished, but they succeeded in their object, as the media cheerfully recycled all this wild scaremongering without bothering to check the scientific facts.

What a striking contrast this was to the second conference, which I attended with 700 others in New York, organised by the Heartland Institute under the title Global Warming: Was It Ever Really A Crisis?. In Britain this received no coverage at all, apart from a sneering mention by The Guardian, although it was addressed by dozens of expert scientists, not a few of world rank, who for professional standing put those in Copenhagen in the shade.

The standard line I keep hearing on TV reports is that climate change "could be worse than expected..."

And I always think, how could it be worse? They were already predicting unavoidable disaster. That hysterical tone will be their undoing.

The climate has been flat or cooling for over ten years. Looks like climate alarmism has finally devolved into flat out making stuff up.

Hans Christian Anderson had the sociology surrounding this hysteria cased hundreds of years ago.

The truth always has a strange way of coming out.

What always strikes me, is how you talk about a ten year trend, and the alarmists will tell you that is not enough time. Then in the next breath, the thirty years of the satellite record will be trotted out as eternal truth.

I'd call this post an inconvenient post for the alarmists.

Who are we going to believe, the terminally corrupt UN's creature, the IPCC, which is decidedly discredited wrt the science on this very blog as well as all over the place... or the real, honest scientists, plus our actual observations of what's happening in the real world, ie. it's getting colder, not hotter, there's less catastrophic weather phenomena, there's more polar ice, etc... the exact opposite of that which the Big Liars have been telling us?

It's time to end the Big Lie. Really, it can't continue to be told forever, what with the fact that it's so full of holes already that soon enough it'll collapse.

I also attended the conference in NYC. It was an amzing array of learned scientists. Hansen's old boss at NASA was there as well and called him an embarassment. The hysteria will be their undoing.
You can see the whole conference here.

in about 10 years when its noticeably cooler and the taxes are high, it will be touted as a success.

Kevin,

A statistical relationship between global warming and CO2 emissions exists only between 1975 and 1998. Climate alarmists ignore the centuries of data beforehand and the decade of data after. Therefore their assertions are statistically insignificant in a larger and complete picture.

Can anyone find out what was predicted in 1998 to happen in ten years, did anything come true?

The debate is over....

Dumbama won....remember....

Sceptics are now also racist..........

We best get ready for a tsunami of very scary climate change stories. The Warmongers realize the sand is rapidly draining out of their hourglass of fame. They know it but have become addicted to the government shoveling research dollars off the truck into their labs. They like being feted by the media, they like big research dollars, they like all expenses paid trips to Bali to schmooze and get a nice tan.

They won't go down without a last bleating gasp of lies and fear mongering. That the climate change emperor is butt naked, that the planet is cooling off and looks likely to do so for another 30+ years is just the next challenge the Global Environmental Industry will try and screech its way out of.

It is gong to be a orgy of fear mongering amidst all longer winters, growing ice sheets and cooling oceans.

Fish.
Barrel.
Shoot.

looking for -90 in the spring. real scientists and real change , its all getting very bizarre

I am puzzled about how this "muzzling" of the press has come about -- if that's what it is, and I think it must be. It is hard for me to believe that MSM would be completely overlooking important contributions to the debate about global warming such as those coming out of Heartland simply because of incompetence. I have concluded that someone or some agency has squelched freedom of the press on this issue.

The US Dems are using the same Climate Change argument for their agenda.

Time for debate is over we all have to act to save the planet.

is now

Time for partisanship and debate is over we all need to act to save the economy.

The really cool part is how they used Global Warming to come to power, the chess board could not have been more perfect. I actually admire the political manuevering that went into getting all the pieces in place.

We would not have had a huge inflationary pressure put on the economy to start the recession unless the phobia surrounding oil from the Climate Change debate had not created sentiment to drive the oil prices up based on the renewed dialogue on supply dwindling. This in turn surged the bio-fuels push via subsidized production and mandates that put pressure on world food supplies + production costs due to ALL fuel costs (bio fuel was only just on par with $100 oil even with its subsidies). This caused an inflationary recession with prices rising fast on consumers, which triggered foreclosures for marginal borrowers, which triggered the derivatives based on these loans to default, that triggered the banking collapse, that triggered Bail outs and opened the door for the Dems upon taking control to simply sieze the secondary banking market ( mortgages, Corporate Paper, Consumer Lending, Small Business lending) without actually controlling the banks through nationalization which would be pushed back on.

It was a beautiful strategy and it worked perfectly.

The press hasn't been muzzled . . they have been played.

The MSM business model is to feature crisis news . that's the draw to get people to read the pages or watch the tube - and that's how they price their advertising rates - it is the eyeball count.

The global environmental industry PR flaks know this and just provide the press releases and "
Ahhhhhhh we're all gonna die" stories. The reporters don't have to even do any work, the just reprint the Very Scary Press Releases.

It works so well because the vast majority of the MSM are Liberalized mind drudges that are anti business, anti America, anti progress and this global warming meme just feeds their pre determined mindset.

Kudos to the global environmental industry - excellent campaign this time. They learned from their previous failed attempts - the infamous Club of Rome and the goofy Population Time Bomb campaigns.

But it will eventually - and very soon, blow up in their faces because the global warming emperor is in fact naked and they can't hide the "Yes, the planet is actually cooling contrary to what we predicted and not predicted by our models".

When they AGW thingy finally craters, the hole is going to gigantic. Thousands of scientists, media hacks, UN organizations, university departments are going to go down in flames and shredded reputations.

AL Gore will lead the pack as the man who caused trillions of dollars of research and investments completely wasted on reducing carbon dioxide.

Somebody will calculate the opportunity cost of all that wasted money - the medical research that wasn't done, the new life saving technologies that didn't get invented etc.

Salem, OR (LifeNews.com) -- The number of assisted suicides in Oregon has increased 30 percent in the last two years and euthanasia activists themselves may have provided the reasons why. It appears members of Compassion & Choices have infiltrated the hospice system and are urging patients to kill themselves."

If everything is much worse than originally predicted, can we have a list of the names of those who made the initial predictions so we don't make the mistake of listening to them any more?

Actually Fred, cooling is bad in counter intuitive ways. It is cooling, and not warming that means less rain; less heat, less evaporation, less precipitation. Less precipitation means that glaciers melt faster than new snow accumulates, so it actually leads to rising oceans.

Then you get to the stuff you mentioned, longer winters and shorter growing seasons.

The dust bowl of the 30's occurred during a cooling trend, if I am not mistaken.

Kevin; Unfortunately you are quite mistaken. The 30's and 90's were the 2 hottest decades of the 20th century. It wasn't until right after WW2 that temps headed down, ironically just as human CO2 production ramped up signifigantly.

"Actually Fred, cooling is bad in counter intuitive ways"

Actually Kevin, you need to take a couple of entry level courses - Climatology, Meteorology & Glaciology would be good starters and if you have time take a Fluvial Geomorph and a Limnology course.

Then you can see how whack your comments are.

And the dust bowl might be attributed to the other big "climate changer" . . land use patterns.

Kevin; Further to my 5:35 post, try reading this.
http://www.norcalblogs.com/watts/2007/08/1998_no_longer_the_hottest_yea.html

Scroll down to the GISS charts that show 1934 as the hottest year of the 20th century, 1931 as 5th hottest, and 1938 and 1939 as the 9th and 10th hottest years. Seems that from start to finish the 30's were some kinda hot.

Funny isn't it that the post war industrial boom that saw mass marketing of the automobile really take off, the introduction of air conditioning etc, etc etc happened to coincide with a cooling trend from '45 to the early 70's. I'm sure Al Gore could explain why that was, but alas, he's not answering any questions.

The Canadian Sentinel

"It's time to end the Big Lie. Really, it can't continue to be told forever, what with the fact that it's so full of holes already that soon enough it'll collapse."

It doesn't matter. Once "Cap'n Trade, or Green Shafts" are in inserted it's checkmate. After that, AGW will be discredited by our leaders; but, we will be told that removing the shaft from our backsides will be irresponsible.

We have lost this battle, it's time to regroup and focus our resources and efforts towards the next battle in hopes of someday winning this culture war.

PMSH may have realized this before the rest of us, that’s why he’s our leader. The correct approach appears to be to put Canada in the best position possible to compete in this new regulated economy. My main fear is I believe that we have embarked on the creation of a “green bubble”, and we all know what happens to bubbles. How much of our wealth will be eviscerated when this green bubble pops?

Fred

I agree, the whole thing will "crater", but not for the reason you say. Science has nothing to do with it, it never has. It will be the market that crushes the scam. I will analogize CO2 credits to Donkey Kong. I was very proud of my prowess at Donkey Kong, but my dad never cared. When I'd mention my high score he'd respond by saying "that and $1 will get you cup of coffee at Robin's Doughnuts". The same can be said for CO2 credits: That and a Toonie will get you a coffee at Timmy's".

"My main fear is I believe that we have embarked on the creation of a “green bubble”, and we all know what happens to bubbles. How much of our wealth will be eviscerated when this green bubble pops?"

Too right Indiana. This is a ponzi scheme built on thin air. How much will we pay to heat our homes, drive cars, run air conditioning etc? How many billions siphoned out of the marketplace with what effect on consumption, production, employment levels etc? Oh wait, I forgot. Green jobs are going to save us.

How much of our wealth will be eviscerated when this green bubble pops?

isn't this an enviro recession all the regulations re pollution etc are to stop the economy congrats you won.

With the entire GW debacle rapidly coming apart at the seams and headed for an implosion, the Gores and Suzukis of the world will be rightfully discredited. This is all fine and good but these people have enriched themselves beyond our wildest dreams through fearmongering, exaggeration and outright lying. They will vanish into obscurity with bulging bank accounts and nary a hint of remorse for the damage that they have done and the billions that have been squandered.

They should be dragged before a judge, have their ill-gotten gains confiscated and banished to somewhere cold and desolate.

Failing that, a good public flogging would be in order.

Some more predictions for 2100.

Global warming panic will grip the worlds 14 billion people after climate scientists warn that the cyclical ups and downs of the earths average temperature that have been going on since the late twentieth century are coming to an end sooner than expected. The CBC will begin interrupting it's 24/7 broadcasting of Little Mosque on the Prairie, 5 times a day, for the call to prayer and just before adjourning for the summer break the Air India Inquiry will blame a low level Mulrooney aid for failing to act on RCMP concerns about security at the Vancouver airport.
