That's right, Halifax could soon go the way of the Maldives. You remember the Maldives? The island nation that was swept from existence by our SUV-driven rising oceans as Al Gore's film crew watched helplessly?

Nova Scotians are beset with limited sources of printed news: The Chronicle Herald and the G&M. So, IMO, they're only getting one side of many important stories and issues.

The irony to me is that I have a handful of Cape Bretoner's from NS working for me here in Calgary.
Everyone....to a man has proven his worth in a piecework trade. When I first met these boys they were living in a tent and working for a fool who ripped them off. I respect anyone that is willing to travel thousands of miles to make a better life.
They have grown on me and I'll be going down east this summer to stand up in a wedding and meet my new godchild. An honor and a commitment.
Now if we could only dummy up the center of this country we might have something.

I was saddened to see the silly and counter-productive Sierra Club of B.C. story showing Victoria at risk of being under 25 metres of water.
Climate change is a serious issue and it is alarming that an organization such as the Sierra Club would so overstate the case as to make it ridiculous.
It was even a greater concern from a professional perspective to see my name in the story as I work hard to try and give the public an accurate picture of this pressing problem.
Kathryn Molloy of the Sierra Club of Canada displays maps of Victoria's possible watery future if global warming continues unabated.
The science suggests serious societal consequences of global warming in the short term, while the changes in sea level that the Sierra Club tout happen over thousands of years. This clumsy story just makes it easy for the deniers to claim there is no problem.

If only I believed in global warming. I live in Halifax, and I would be completely cool with this. The waterfront is hideous for the most part, and try driving/parking there! Of course we might lose much of Dartmouth. Which would be awfully sad.

I visted "Bare island," a British Fort that is near La Perouse, a suburb of Sydney, Australia. When the Fort was built on a island of solid rock in the late 1800`s, a small dock for row boats was carved out of the stone. Today, over 100 years later, the water level is still at the same place. Explain!!
The Chronically Horrid article quotes the following, without batting an eyelash:

I recall seeing BOB MCDONALD....the CBC's current science guru for kids doing a thingy on TVO....he spent nearly an hour, displaying the "damage to infrastructure" already done by AGW sea level rise in Halifax...
I then consulted the Canadian Fisheries and Oceans website and noted that Halifax has experience NO CHANGE +or - in the last three dacades.
And yet this knob could show damage????

A left-leaning friend brought up the plight of the Maldives a few weeks ago to make a GW point. I didn't know about the 'crisis' there,so I asked her if the ocean was rising,or were the islands sinking.Whoa,wrong question.Hell hath no fury like a cultist scorned.
CBC did a piece on the Maldives last year. The benevolent local dictator bemoaned the devastating effects of rising oceans on the one hand and bragged about developing 39 new luxury resorts there
on the other. Kind of makes you go "Hmmm". I also saw that doc about the old tree on the beach, great show. Too bad about the tree but then ecofascists don't care about the truth now do they?
