JONATHON PORRITT, one of Gordon Brown’s leading green advisers, is to warn that Britain must drastically reduce its population if it is to build a sustainable society.
Porritt’s call will come at this week’s annual conference of the Optimum Population Trust (OPT), of which he is patron.
The trust will release research suggesting UK population must be cut to 30m if the country wants to feed itself sustainably.
Porritt said: “Population growth, plus economic growth, is putting the world under terrible pressure.
“Each person in Britain has far more impact on the environment than those in developing countries so cutting our population is one way to reduce that impact.”
The really sad part? When the one-way marches into "green re-education" camps begin, half will proclaim that they "never saw it coming".

Now, Europe has a much higher pop. density than we do in N.America but they still have lots of room compared to much of the third world.

Let's think a bit,shall we? What is the birthrate for native Brits? around 1.5 births per woman, which is a steep demographic decline, just what they're asking for. What's the birthrate amoung immigrant Muslims? About 5.5 per woman, which is population explosion rate. Good luck getting them to cut back.
Even with the immigrant population explosion, the overall birthrate is still a demographic decline, so the only thing they need to do is immediately end all immigration. Very simple solution that avoids any "final solution".

In 20 years temperatures will be as low as they are now, the oceans will not have risen, and the environmental movement, in its present form, will be a historical footnote, or historical laughing stock. Does Mr Porritt have any suggestions to share on the ideal population size of India and China and how best to achieve said goals?
I note that the article estimates that the earths population puts out 50 billion tons of CO2/year. Seems a mite high and implies that each person on earth eats at least 8.3 tons of dry food/year.
One calculation I didn't see (although I'm not sure whether individuals such as Porritt are capable of doing the math) is how much CO2 would 30 million rotting corpses release to the atmosphere. Probably more than the greenies would consider to be acceptable. They'd have to bury to bodies quite deep which means massive CO2 emissions from the heavy machinery used to dig the trenches.
Given that the UK population is virtually disarmed, any crackpot who proposes eliminating 1/2 of the population for environmental reasons wouldn't have much meaningfull opposition. Trying something similar in N. America is simply impossible given the fraction of the population that owns guns and a forced population reduction scenario would make all gun owners use their guns for self-defence.

We've(my employer) done the majority of Potash mines in Saskatchewan we are considered the experts in the industry. Discussions about supply and world population are relevant to our business so we are informed regarding this subject. The numbers dictate that there will be a world population decline starting around 2020. Today there is the technology and resources to feed 50billion ppl; therefore, politics is major obstacle when it comes to feeding the world.
The over population crisis is BS. Period!
we all have a dog in this fight. how about just kill them all, all those who think humans are a virus on the planet. that would help. stress levels would go way down.
