I'd still like to know how in hell Hani Hanjour managed to execute a radical 270 degree descending turn, level out just above ground level WITHOUT pancaking into the ground, and hit the one spot on the Pentagon that was relatively unpopulated and undergoing renovations? If it were me (which it wouldn't be because I wouldn't do something so dumbshit as crash a plane into a building) I would have simply opted for the lawn dart into the middle! So what was it...cooincidence? Bullshit luck? Or was there something else?

When asked by friends travelling in the "lesser developed" nations, I always insist they do not take local or regional airlines. Just not worth it. The Turkish airline thing might be religious in nature, but the standards across Asia, Africa and South America? Yikes.

The connections between AirCanada and these dingbats is not purely theoretical. Since April of 2008 Turkey Air, sorry Turkish Airlines, has been a full member of the Star Alliance group of codesharing airlines. That group includes AirCanada, so the next flight you book overseas on AirCanada could very well be operated by Turkish Airlines. The good news is that the benefits of any camel sacrifices post April 2008 may extend to all of the Star Alliance member airlines.

The funny thing is that the second article on google is one pointing out that the rumor regarding Zacarias Moussaoui wanting to only learn how to fly the plane, not take off or land, is actually false.

Radical? During the entire maneuver the aircraft experienced about half a G of lateral acceleration. I've made more radical turns in my car.

Well, Alex, if you'd actually read the linked story, it looks like there's some pretty persuasive evidence that the diminished standards for aircraft maintenance and crew training that plague Turkish Air are a direct result of Turkey's Islamist AKP government meddling in the internal operations of the airline.

I also seem to remember a nasty incident on an EgyptAir flight a few years ago, when a co-pilot shouted "Allahu Akbar", shoved the control column into the instrument panel and dove the aircraft straight into the Atlantic, killing all on board. Had to be Bush's fault, I guess.

I live in a flight path.
