Katrina, we hardly knew ye.

Here in Houston we got pretty much flattened by Ike last September. So - when it was over people got to wrok, fixed the rooves, cut down the broken trees, put a new golden arch on the fractured Mickey D sign. It's over-life goes on.

Yet - 3 years later they're still howling about Katrina. Of course no one here in Texas was dumb enough to build their damn house below sea level....

See, it WAS Bush's fault! He's gone, and now look!

When researching the AMO, I found this is by definition an indication it has gone cold. So Vancouver won't be alone next year ... it's unrestrained ARCTIC OUTFLOWS for Toronto next winter as well!

I'm happy to share our Canadian Winters with my fellow citizens. For those looking forward to this change, don't worry, you get used to driving on ice and by mid-March -10 feels like 10 did 6 months before in October when it all started :D .

If you live in Canada, buy long underwear. We are going to need it for the next 30 - 40 years or so. That really big pool of colder water that is now built up off the west coast of the continent due to the regular PDO cycle, means its gonna be colder longer winters.

The Believers can have their theories and starving polar bear driven public relations campaign. I'll trust data driven science any day.

Sorry Kate, but I had to do a double take.

At first I thought that was a recent chart of stock market performance but then I remembered our recent three day rally.

I think we should short tropical cyclones and go long options on Canadian winters. Hey you could make money on the weather.

Oh wait...they were trying that claptrap with CO2 cap n trade nonsense. Hello Enron anybody?

Cheers

C'mon people, get with the cult thinking. When it comes to Katrina, that was "global warming", when it comes to a 30 year low in hurricane activity that is "weather".

Come now Kate, that's not fair.

You know that the global warming crowd has switched modes so that *any* form of climate change is now attributed to CO2 production.

So it doesn't really matter if the temperature is hot or cold, or cyclone activity goes up or down, it's all our fault. The only way we can be saved is by paying money to the hypocritical high priests in the Global Warming Church.

The retreat of the "progressives" to the Dark Ages.

The AGW/Climate Change fraud/crime is a resident of the MSM which aids/abets the fraud/crime. Civic officials, both elected/unelected, are complicit also.

Here is the evidence.

>>> Note this irony: "As below-zero winds swept across City Hall yesterday morning, Mayor Larry O'Brien talked about the importance of fighting climate change."

>>> The bkppgrnt from the Mayor of Ottawa: ""As the capital city of a G8 nation, Ottawa has an important leadership role and I hope every resident and business will join me in turning off their lights March 28," said O'Brien.

Down with AGW.

"Lights out for hour of climate change
By DEREK PUDDICOMBE, CITY HALL BUREAU

As below-zero winds swept across City Hall yesterday morning, Mayor Larry O'Brien talked about the importance of fighting climate change.

O'Brien, a group of city councillors, Gatineau Mayor Marc Bureau and Hydro Ottawa CEO Rosemarie Leclair kicked off this year's Earth Hour campaign by unveiling a three-storey banner that will hang on the Laurier Ave. side of City Hall for the next few weeks.

The banner is meant to be a reminder to residents to turn off their lights for one hour on March 28.

Earth Hour is a worldwide campaign that started two years ago in Sydney, Australia.

"As the capital city of a G8 nation, Ottawa has an important leadership role and I hope every resident and business will join me in turning off their lights March 28," said O'Brien.

Residents are being asked to switch off their lights from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Leclair is encouraging as many people as possible to participate.

"We're hoping that even more will participate in 2009 and we're making a special effort to involve children and youth who are often the agents of change," she said."

I will be happy to particpate by keeping every light in the house on for Earth Hour.
For thousands of years people spent the nights in the dark, huddled around a fire or had flickering gas lights until we had electric lights. Now these idiots want to put us back where we came from. Morons.

Kathy - you made me laugh. Indeed, the oceans have now began to slow, and the planet heal

Kathy,

The first half of what you said is correct. As long as I live I'll never forget that look on Curious George Bush's face as he peered out the window of Air Force One at the devestation of Katrina.

That far away dis-interested you spoiled my weekend at Camp David gaze. Just remember Five Feet of Manure, there were more Canadians than Americans providing relief. Where was Georgie? I'll bet he was at his ranch in Texas playing tennis.

P.S. maz2 way to be on topic.

Not stirred:

It is not the President's constitutional duty to do much of anything during natural disasters.

He did however declare the area a National Disaster five days before landfall, allowing areas to start receiving Fed money and assistance right away.

Of course, things would have been different if:

* People didn't insist on living below sea level in a corrupt Democratic run area full of criminals, drug addicts and the generally shiftless.

* Learned helplessness and an embittered sense of entitlement wasn't a fatal way of 'life' for millions of Americans.

Question: FEMA didn't exist before the 1970s.

Hmmm, However did folks cope with the great fires of Chicago, the San Francisco earthquake, even the polio epidemic?

Not only cope, but rebuild faster and cheaper?

Private capitalism and charity, individual initiative and personal responsibility. The federal government had zero to do with it.

Stir the coolaid, you are delusional if you believe that there were more canadians than us citizens involved in the rescue efforts for katrina. Just reflect for 1/2 second as to the imbecility of that statement. Geography alone should be enough to let you grasp that even the most anxious canucks could not possibly get to NO before Texans and Georgians and every other damn mid western state.
If you believe that stupid assertion I am sure that you can also see ice melting in -40C weather.

c'mon now, the "blame everything on Bush" crowd has never let the facts stop them before - why would they start now?

not stirred enough....

Did you get that off your teleprompter????

" insist on living below sea level in a corrupt Democratic run area full of criminals, drug addicts and the generally shiftless."

Yeah.....the National Guard's first task was returning the anarchy to order....with assault rifles.....not feeding or evacuating folk...
The snipers and drive-by artists had to first be suppressed......

not stirred is amazing in his ability to read detailed thoughts in the faces of other people. He should be an expert witness in court cases.

I am beginning to think that he is really one of us that is just having us on.

I would love a link about there being more Canadians than Americans. Funny how when hurricanes hit states with Republican governors, they seem to manage, but the clueless governor of LA did not even request the national guard until some time passed. Since Bush actually believes in the constitution, and under the constitution the governor is commander of the state's national guard, he was forced to wait.

The people who "tore up the constitution" were those who retroactively rewrote it and blamed Bush for failings of the Louisiana government.

Speaking of "tearing up the constitution", did you see that Obama wouldn't sign the "Porknabus Bill" in front of cameras? You know why? Because he included a "signing statement."

Bwa ha ha ha. I have to go tell this one to the Obama maniac in the next office!

From what I have read the first ones in were various church groups that organized and brought in food and water. That is the way it has always been and probably always will be. I think it is human nature. You help your neighbours. Government won't change that...Ok maybe O can...I'll wait.

So Ottawa City Hall is going to be in the dark for an hour on March 28?

How, exactly, does this vary from the other 8766 hours in the year?

So much for Fraser Island fun and sun.

Evacuations continued Sunday along Australia's Queensland coast as a Category 5 cyclone moved closer to the mainland.

Queensland state's marine safety authority said up to 100 tonnes of fuel were now believed to have spilled from the Hong Kong-flagged ship Pacific Adventurer amid cyclonic conditions early on Wednesday.

Moreton and Bribie Islands, and parts of the popular Sunshine Coast, were declared disaster zones, by state Premier Anna Bligh.

Thanks for promoting Earth Hour! Another way you can recruit people to the cause is by creating a Earth Hour group on Commit21.com. Simply create a group about one action that you will commit to do for Earth Hour and recruit your friends, family, and co-workers to get involved in that action as well. When it comes to climate change, simple actions can make huge differences and Commit21 leverages social media to influence networks of friends, family, and co-workers. Check it out at www.commit21.com

Let's tie this one back to global warming theory.
The warmists say that global warming will increase the energy in weather systems ie. global warming means more hurricanes.

Based on what I remember from thermodynamics, it matters what caused the warming. There are two ways to warm a system: (1) insulate it or stifle the exhaust (as in the greenhouse effect) or (2)turn up the heat (as in solar forcing). If you warm something by insulating it, you should expect the available energy in the weather systems to go DOWN. If You turn up the heat, you should expect the available energy in the weather to go up. This graph makes it look like solar forcing was responsible for the peak temperatures in 1998.

This is only my pet theory but I note that prominent skeptics have said that global warming should decrease tropical storm activity.
