Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. One of the things we do, here in the SDA LNR studios, is continuously research, and, as we say in the jargon, watch out for, particularly fine versions of various classic works, the quality of which the available versions in the Interwebothique tend to wax and wane upon, as they come and go. And thus, so, tonight, for your delectation and pursuant to our Friday night show, and probably for a limited time only, or at least maybe for a limited time only, already, here is in our judgment a particularly fine combination of both the audio and the video components of the classic Ride On Time, as performed by Black Box (one of the few piano-house groups to reach success) in 1989 (4:00).
Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

"Last week, on a freezing night in a blacked-out bunker outside Halabja, a city in the mountains of northeastern Iraq, the officers of a Kurdish guerrilla unit drank tea and laid out in vivid detail what they would do to President Bush if he fell into their hands. 'I would kiss him one thousand times,' the company commander, Sheikh Fattah, said. 'I would carry him on my shoulders and shout songs to him,' another officer, Farouk Khaled, added. 'I would sacrifice one thousand sheep and two thousand chickens for him,' a third officer, Mam Siamand, said.
"These salutes to Bush—very much unlike the sort of thing that is said about the President elsewhere in Iraq and in the rest of the world—went on for some time..."

Thanks for that, Eric. Wafa Sultan is so unlike the so-called progressives in the west, who continue to congratulate themselves for what in effect is nothing more than their simple, now functionally useless, self-awareness. The proponents of this "awareness" got inflamed and unreasonable -- it became all about them -- and they ran out of bounds with the ball. They began to identify "colonialism," cultural hegemony, capitalism -- whatever words they learned -- as being, in sum total, a greater evil than all manner of violation. The Western Self, as it turns out, has trumped the suffering of real human beings, and it's all been undertaken as a putative shot against the Western Self.
The subtext -- and all that remains is the subtext -- of the current, politicized notion that it's badly mistake, to even deign to have have an opinion on, say, the matter of Afghan girls being forbidden to hold a book, let alone read it, on the grounds that holding such a view is evidence of said colonialism, etc., is that their learned, rich, hideously time-bound "awareness" trumps all else, including utter brutality against innocent people in other countries.
Check out this post by Terry Glavin which juxtaposes a working-class British song from years ago with a photo of some Afghan children. It's worth a million words.

"Do New Bulbs Save Energy if They Don’t Work?
[A] lot of people these days are finding the new compact fluorescent bulbs anything but simple. Consumers who are trying them say they sometimes fail to work, or wear out early. At best, people discover that using the bulbs requires learning a long list of dos and don’ts.
Take the case of Karen Zuercher and her husband, in San Francisco. Inspired by watching the movie “An Inconvenient Truth,” they decided to swap out nearly every incandescent bulb in their home for energy-saving compact fluorescents. Instead of having a satisfying green moment, however, they wound up coping with a mess.
“Here’s my sad collection of bulbs that didn’t work,” Ms. Zuercher said the other day as she pulled a cardboard box containing defunct bulbs from her laundry shelf.
One of the 16 Feit Electric bulbs the Zuerchers bought at Costco did not work at all, they said, and three others died within hours. The bulbs were supposed to burn for 10,000 hours, meaning they should have lasted for years in normal use. “It’s irritating,” Ms. Zuercher said.
Irritation seems to be rising as more consumers try compact fluorescent bulbs, which now occupy 11 percent of the nation’s eligible sockets, with 330 million bulbs sold every year. Consumers are posting vociferous complaints on the Internet after trying the bulbs and finding them lacking.
...
In California, where bulbs have been heavily encouraged, utilities have concluded that they will not be able to persuade a majority of consumers to switch until compact fluorescents get better. That is prompting them to develop specifications for a better bulb.
The effort aims to address the most consumer complaints: poor dimming, slow warm-up times, shortened bulb life because of high temperatures inside enclosed fixtures, and dissatisfaction with the color of the light."

There's been an absolutely stunning new development in the world of economics.
March 27 2009
"Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Thursday blamed the global economic crisis on 'white people with blue eyes" and it was wrong that black and indigenous people should pay for white people's mistakes."
"Speaking in Brasilia at a joint press conference with Gordon Brown, the UK Prime Minister, Mr Lula da Silva told reporters:
'This crisis was caused by the irrational behaviour of white people with blue eyes, who before the crisis appeared to know everything and now demonstrate that they know nothing'."
Full story at Drudge/Financial Times.
So there you have it folks.
We thought all along that it was the brain that created economic theory and now we find out it is the eyes!
And not just any eyes - its those blue eyes.
I'm sure all universities will be gearing up to confirm this fact as stated by the President of Brazil.
In other news, President Lula will be holding a class later on 'How to Win Friends and Influnece People' at his favorite bar.
Everyone is welcome.
(I never did trust those Vikings. heh)
And after reading my post again, I can honestly say that the whole world should get a warm and fuzzy feeling knowing that the world economy is in the hands of capable men like Pres Lula.
Oh man, the Gods are really really angry with us, aren't they?

I believe something went wonky with your post.
I was however able to decipher a snippet of it.
Here in the City of Sarnia, there is an abundance of geese in Waterfront Park causing a nuisance by crapping all over the place. The city, it it's wisdom, posted cardboard cutouts of coyotes to scare off the geese. A female jogger ( probably menopausal ) spotted one and ran to a local construction site claiming that it had barked at her.
Police were called and the rest is history. The cutouts have disappeared temporarily but will be back next month. No word yet on whether the jogger
was contacted by the trauma team or whether she's getting councelling for the life-altering event.
WW - your comment was trapped by the filter, as it had too many links and some symbols common to spammers.
This morning I heard a story on the news about a protest in London today, demanding that the upcoming G20 Summit concern itself with two things:
1. The financial welfare of the "little guy"
2. Global Warming
Is it just me or do not the proposed remedies for #2 directly and adversely effect #1 in a negative way?!

"Catlin Expedition: Impaired Judgment?
28 03 2009
Guest post by Steve Goddard
"Reading through the recent blog posts of the Catlin expedition, it has become apparent that they have made errors in judgment. Team member Martin Hartley is suffering from frostbite, and hasn’t been able to sleep for nearly a week.
our sleeping bags are no longer frozen, but wet. I’m not sure which is worse. Martin’s is the most soggy and he’s hardly slept for 6 nights now.
The current temperature is -42C (-44F.) The sensible course of action would be to evacuate Martin to someplace warm where he can receive proper medical attention. Cold and lack of sleep make healing impossible and threaten his health. I have camped in tents in -30C weather, and it is all about survival - nothing else has any meaning when you are that cold.
The wet sleeping bags are apparently the result of a poor decision.
Any seasoned expeditioner will tell you that pretty much anything is bearable, providing that one has the ability to enjoy a warm and dry night’s sleep. However, for various reasons the team chose not to take vapour barrier liners for their sleeping bags, and now with a sudden warming (up to a sultry -24 from a nippy -40 degrees Celsius) their frozen sleeping bags are just starting to feel like sorbets.
Indeed, the scientific merit of the expedition is questionable."

So I decided to put her convictions to the test. I wrote her a polite letter, applauding her for her support of free speech. But I also asked her for a public statement of a few sentences, supporting Ezra Levant's efforts.
