Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation and pursuant to our Thursday night wild-card show, here are Real Life performing the 12" EP version of their 1993 classic, Send me an Angel (6:12).

Friday morning update: I double-checked that date last night after MJ's comment, and would have sworn it said 1983, which I know first-hand was the correct date. This is where Perry Mason reminds us of the trouble with eye-witness testimony. Anyway, thanks to MJ and EBD for the corrections, it was indeed 1983.

Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

Looks earlier than '93.

That depends on how you look at it.

What a classic. I think that's just what we need right now too... AN ANGEL.

Vitruvius, sir: According to the Wikipedia link, the song is from 1983.

Vitruvius, sir: According to the Wikipedia link, the song is from 1983

Yes, but by 1993, that song was considered a classic, so Vit can save his honour.

What every Liberal should post on their fridge and read every day:

"We took the carbon tax to the public and the public didn't think it was such a good idea," he said.

"I'm trying to get myself elected here and if the public, after mature consideration think that's the dumbest thing they've ever heard then I've got to listen."

Iggy's words, especially the last phrase, should be applied to a lot of their platform.

"How Science Fiction Found Religion

There is a young man, different from other young men. Ancient prophecies foretell his coming, and he performs miraculous feats. Eventually, confronted by his enemies, he must sacrifice his own life—an act that saves mankind from calamity—but in a mystery as great as that of his origin, he is reborn, to preside in glory over a world redeemed. Tell this story to one of the world’s 2 billion Christians, and he’ll recognize it instantly. Tell it to a science-fiction and fantasy fan, and he’ll ask why you’re making minor alterations to the plot of The Matrix or Superman Returns. For reasons that have as much to do with global politics as with our cultural moment, some of this generation’s most successful sci-fi and fantasy movie franchises follow an essentially Christian plotline.

"Blizzard warning includes Wichita

The winter storm bearing down on Kansas could deliver a foot or more of snow to the Wichita area and as much as 20 inches in western parts of the state today and Saturday, forecasters warn.

The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for southwest Kansas that began at 1 a.m. today and will extend until 7 a.m. Saturday. A second blizzard warning has been issued for south-central Kansas, including Wichita, from 7 a.m. today to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Snowfall estimates for the Wichita area range from 6 to 15 inches, depending on the forecaster.

"This could rival the biggest snow we've ever had in Wichita," said Mike Smith, CEO of WeatherData Services Inc., a subsidiary of AccuWeather."

"several MEP´s walked out in protest."

Friday, 20/2/2009:

12:58 - THIS THEY NEED TO HEAR:

There was a scandal in the European Parliament yesterday. The rude but frank Czech president Vaclav Klaus criticised the EU for being undemocratic and several MEP´s walked out in protest. I guess they are not used to this kind of talk in the parliament:

[Rude Klaus] "Many of you certainly know the name of the French economist Frédéric Bastiat and his famous Petition of the Candlemakers, which has become a well-known and canonical reading, illustrating the absurdity of political interventions in the economy. On 14 November 2008 the European Commission approved a real, not a fictitious Bastiat’s Petition of the Candlemakers, and imposed a 66% tariff on candles imported from China.

I would have never believed that a 160-year-old essay could become a reality, but it has happened. An inevitable effect of the extensive implementation of such measures in Europe is economic slowdown, if not a complete halt of economic growth. The only solution is liberalisation and deregulation of the European economy.""

A PETITION From the Manufacturers of Candles, Tapers, Lanterns, sticks, Street Lamps, Snuffers, and Extinguishers, and from Producers of Tallow, Oil, Resin, Alcohol, and Generally of Everything Connected with Lighting."

"We are suffering from the ruinous competition of a rival who apparently works under conditions so far superior to our own for the production of light that he is flooding the domestic market with it at an incredibly low price; for the moment he appears, our sales cease, all the consumers turn to him, and a branch of French industry whose ramifications are innumerable is all at once reduced to complete stagnation. This rival, which is none other than the sun, is waging war on us so mercilessly we suspect he is being stirred up against us by perfidious Albion (excellent diplomacy nowadays!), particularly because he has for that haughty island a respect that he does not show for us[1]."

Shame on the government for facilitating these huge scams.

U.N. 'Climate Change' Plan Would Likely Shift Trillions to Form New World Economy

A United Nations document on "climate change" that will be distributed to a major environmental conclave next week envisions a huge reordering of the world economy, likely involving trillions of dollars in wealth transfer, millions of job losses and gains, new taxes, industrial relocations, new tariffs and subsidies, and complicated payments for greenhouse gas abatement schemes and carbon taxes — all under the supervision of the world body.

Canadians may have better hockey players than the Czechs( we do), but the Czechs have better politicians.

I guess when you're nose to bayonet in a socialist paradise, Conservatism is more than a slogan.

Terror inmates may be released in US: intel chief

President Barack Obama's intelligence chief confirmed Thursday that some Guantanamo inmates may be released on US soil and receive assistance to return to society.
"If we are to release them in the United States, we need some sort of assistance for them to start a new life," said National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair at his first press conference.

"You can't just put them on the street," he added. "All that is work in progress."

President Obama continued collecting money for his 2010 Senate re-election campaign even after he resigned his seat from Illinois, including a maximum $2,300 donation the day after Christmas from a top executive of a Wall Street firm that had received a government bailout.

Four contributions - $4,800 in all - were donated to the Obama 2010 fund on Dec. 26, according to Federal Election Commission reports."

"Obama's message: Glory days of open border are gone"

WASHINGTON — Janet Napolitano has a message for Canadians: It's a border. Get used to it.

The new Homeland Security Secretary had only stern comments yesterday about the state and future of the Canada-U.S. border, at a symposium hosted by the Brookings Institution.

Her goal seemed to be to throw a bucket of reality on anyone who hoped that the arrival of Barack Obama's new administration would herald a loosening of new restrictions on cross-border traffic.

The days when Canadians and Americans moved back and forth across the border—“it's as though there's not a border at all,” as she put it— are over. “It's a real border, and we need to address it as a real border,” Ms. Napolitano said, calling on both Americans and Canadians to accept this “change of culture.”"

President Barack Obama's Afghanistan proposal is under fire from the liberal base, which is becoming increasingly disappointed in his war policies.

Russ Feingold, the liberal and often defiant Wisconsin senator, said today that that Obama’s plan “could make the situation worse, not better.”

Peace Action, a liberal anti-war organization, is organizing a coalition to petition Congress to oppose Obama’s Afghanistan plan.

“It’s a shame President Obama believes he can pursue the same militaristic strategy as his predecessors and produce a different result,” said Kevin Martin, executive director of Peace Action.

And Win Without War, another anti-war group, also slammed Obama."

"Obama on Afghanistan (Michael Yon is disappointed)

President Obama has just spoken on AfPak. I closed my eyes and listened closely to his words, coming via the BBC from the other side of the world.

The President's words were disappointing. He talked about our goal to reach a force level of 134,000 Afghan soldiers and 82,000 police by 2011. This is not even in the neighborhood of being enough. Further, the increase of 21,000 U.S. troops is likely just a bucket of water on the growing bonfire. One can only expect that sometime in 2010, the President will again be forced to announce another increase in U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

If there were not people like Gates and Petraeus up there, my gut would say to pull out. It is only my faith in the military, and what I saw them accomplish against heavy odds in Iraq, that gives me hope."

"It has been publicly reported that Mr. Obama as far back as 2006 had a relationship to a law firm that was coincidentally researching ways to get around the Article 2 requirements of the U.S. Constitution for service as president," he said.

"This appears to be an ongoing attempt by Mr. Obama to obtain the presidency while avoiding and evading all questions on his eligibility," he said.

This closed border thingy from the Obama 'man the ramparts' rookies is not going to go well in the Pacific NW. Washington has a progressive Governor that wants the border as open as possible to benefit economically from the coming Vancouver Olympics.

I don't know if "Send Me An Angel" is exactly a classic, but it's a pretty good song. So was "Catch Me I'm Falling". Actually the Heartland and Flame LPs were both worth having, which is more than I can say for a lot of albums.
