Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation and pursuant to our Sunday night classical music show, here is Wilhelm Kempff performing the First, Second, and Third movements of Ludwig van Beethoven's piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, "Quasi Una Fantasia", Op. 27, No. 2, popularly known as the Moonlight Sonata (15:39). Oh yeah? Well let me ask you this: when, exactly, was the last time you celebrated all three movements thereof? See what I mean! And Kempff's facial expressions are delightful, they're magnificent, they're uplifting, even, already ;-)
Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

You know, it's comforting that even great pianists sometimes make mistakes. That third movement is a bear.

His third movement is simply inhuman.
And yet, as stunning as that is, his second movement is one of the best things he ever recorded - maybe even the very best.

"O, 'YOU PUNCH DRUNK?'
President Obama yukked it up again when he discussed the economy on "60 Minutes" last night, prompting his interviewer to ask whether leading the nation during a recession has made him "punch drunk."
The president laughed he later called it "gallows humor" at several points, particularly when he talked about pumping more money into General Motors and Chrysler.
"I just want to say that the only thing less popular than putting money into banks is putting money into the auto industry," he said.
Interviewer Steve Kroft interjected, "You're sitting here. And you are laughing. You are laughing about some of these problems. Are people going to look at this and say, 'I mean, he's sitting there just making jokes about money'?"
"Are you punch drunk?" Kroft asked.
"No, no," the president replied. "There's got to be a little gallows humor to get you through the day. If you had said to us a year ago that the least of my problems would be Iraq which is still a pretty serious problem I don't think anybody would have believed it."

According to Jean Lapierre the ex-Liberal M.P. and much-listed-to t.v. and radio commentator, Ignatieff did not exactly receive a standing ovation before, during and after his speech in Laval.
Also the Party is still broke and is having a very hard time recruiting candidates in Quebec. They are making overtures to everyone, including Bloquistes and Adéquistes (former leader Mario Dumont's free enterprise party).
However all the media outlets are pushing Ignatieff and we see his smiling face all over the papers. Meanwhile the Conservatives are portrayed as gun nuts.

"Why I am depressed
Victor Davis Hanson asks why so many Americans are depressed. Suggesting five themes that might provide an answer, he thinks it might be more than the economy that explains our state of mind. I agree, but none of Dr. Hanson's themes accounts for my despair.
I feel utterly powerless to do anything about the fellow in the Oval Office who combines infantile leftism and adolescent grandiosity in roughly equal measures. It seems to me that every day he is responsible for assaults on the freedom and well being of the American people. I can't keep up and I can't stand to pay attention.
His aim seems to be to reduce us to government dependents. His inattention to rehabilitation of the financial system in lieu of vastly expanding the size and scope of the government is a dead giveaway, as is his lack of concern over the vast destruction of wealth his policies are working (and will continue to work).
Perhaps most depressing to me is the manifestation of his adolescent grandiosity in his stewardship of foreign policy and national security. He doesn't understand that the government of Iran is intent on acquiring nuclear weapons it can put to evil purposes. He thinks he can sweet-talk them out of achieving this objective.
He doesn't understand that the government of Iran is a tyranny that oppresses the Iranian people. He thus addresses the mad mullahs as though they represent the people of Iran."

HERE
The Libs may be trending upward in the polls right now and I for one would love to see us go the polls in a federal election. I doubt that the result would be much different than the last time but going to the polls would accomplish a couple of things.
First, it would establish a clear East/West divide that has been growing more and more especially since the attempted hi-jacking of government by the three stooges.
Second, it would show Igatieff for the third-rate leader that he is. This man is an elitist who has little of the skill required to run a country. Folks call him an "intelect". Kind of reminds me of a non-compliment which is in fact an insult when someone tells you that you are a "scholar and a gentleman".
That term stems from a day way back when a "scholar" was someone who could not be bothered to actually work as they had their nose buried in a book all day long and a "gentleman" was someone born in wealth and never did an honest day's work in his life.
Iggy strikes me as one of those. This "American" Prime Minister-in-waiting has no concept of our country and especially of Western Canada.
The next dust-up leading us to the polls will be a very defining time for Western Canada. If Iggy does end up forming a government he will have very few MP's from the West. We will be a country divided.

Uli it is one thing to say one will vote a certain way when there is no election. Dion was neck and neck..till he got beat. When the time comes they will look at where we are, where we were and where we are going. There are a lot of people that don't like everything going on and that is normal. When it comes to settling on less performance for a higher cost..time will tell. Iggy hasn't tried to sell an increase in GST yet has he?
Another indicator that the "global war on terror" is over and the US has run-up the white flag - the TOTUS is already talking about pulling out of Afghanistan.
During the election he promised to pull out of Iraq which he is doing. He also said he would greatly increase the troops level in Afghanistan but now even before putting more troops in there, he is talking about exiting.
Well, Mr. President, hope things are secure on the home-front because terrorists will be coming to a neighborhood near you.
...And the Amateur Hour continues:
His own directive goes bad...He now blames the doers and attacks the guy that said "I told you so":
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama says the U.S. hasn't done a good job sorting out who should be released from the Guantanamo Bay detention center.
Obama says in a broadcast interview that some of the people released from the facility in Cuba have rejoined terrorist groups. He also says U.S. officials have not always been effective in determining which prisoners will be a danger once they are let go.
But he says the Bush administration's policy of holding detainees for years on end with no trials is "unsustainable,' and has only fueled anti-American sentiments.
In a taped interview with CBS' "60 Minutes," he also disputes former Vice President Dick Cheney's claim that plans to close Guantanamo will make America less safe.

Barack Obama was elected commander in chief promising to run the most transparent presidential administration in American history.
This achievement and the overall promise of his historic administration caused the National Newspaper Publishers Assn. to name him "Newsmaker of the Year."
The president is to receive the award from the federation of black community newspapers in a White House ceremony this afternoon.
The Obama White House has closed the press award ceremony to the press.
From the president's official schedule:
"Later in the afternoon, the President and the First Lady will attend a reception with the National Newspaper Publisher Association in the State Dining Room, where they will be presented the Newsmaker of the Year award. This event is closed press."
Maybe they'll let the newspaper people pass the award through the fence.

Greg Gutfeld is a tool, but the CBC questioning Fox's balance??? Too funny.

Note to Biden: Arny and Jenny are not and did not run for Potus.
IMO, this is an attempt at early discrediting and muddying of the issue using Cheney who is even more hated than Bush...Me thinks Barry is starting to piss his pants:
WASHINGTON – While the subject of Barack Obama's birth certificate is still a topic most press outlets refuse to cover, it became a matter of sport in Vice President Joe Biden's Gridiron Dinner address this weekend.
After mentioning one of the Republican speakers for the evening, Arnold Schwarzenegger, was born in Austria and that one of the Democratic speakers, Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, was born in Canada, Biden chortled: "Folks, this is going to be Lou Dobbs' worst nightmare.
From there, Biden transitioned to the birth certificate controversy
"You know, I never realized just how much power Dick Cheney had until my first day on the job. I walked into my office, and you know how the outgoing president always leaves the incoming president a note in his desk?" he asked rhetorically. "I opened my drawer and Dick Cheney had left me Barack Obama’s birth certificate."

Barack Obama does not seem to know that in May 2007, French voters elected Nicolas Sarkozy to the French presidency, to succeed Jacques Chirac who had been president for twelve years.
Yesterday, we told you Sarkozy is irritated because Mister O. refuses to tell him if he will accept to meet him personally in the next few months.
Strangely, we have just learnt this surprising piece of news :
Barack Obama wrote a letter to Jacques Chirac to tell him about his desire to "work with him" for the next four years !
In a letter described by Chirac as "very nice," Obama wrote, "I am certain that we will be able to work together, in the coming four years, in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a safer world."
The use of the word "peace" was taken to be an indirect reference to Chirac's stance against the US intervention in Iraq, which Obama had also opposed.
This revelation was made by the online edition of the daily Le Figaro on Thursday.
So, if I understand well, Mister O., who has already despised Gordon Brown, behaving with him as if he did not know he is Prime Minister of Britain, does not even know the name of the French president.
I wonder if someone had told him, when he came to France last summer, that the man he met was NOT Jacques Chirac !
In any case, for Sarko, the blow must be terrible : he has tried to persuade Obama to invite him in Washington for months, and now he learns that his predecessor might soon be Obama's guest at the White House before him !
Cheers

I am surprised that no one in the Canadian or even the US blogosphere commented on the mind-boggling amount of money printing going on at the U.S. Federal reserve. The graph in a Terence Corcoran column says it all (link below)
I know that monetary theory is dry stuff but one does not need a PhD to know that doubling a country's monetary base in less than a year is wrong.
My favorite part is what the director of Zimbabwe's central bank had to say about this: "I've been condemned by traditional economists who say printing money drives inflation," observed Gideon Gono last month. "But once the IMF advised America to print money, I decided God was on my side and had come to vindicate me."
Zimbabwe's inflation rate is 231,000,000%.

Hans - Obama knows very well that Sarkozy is the President of France. Remember, Obama is a pathological narcissist. That means that he cannot handle any criticism.
Sarkozy, during Obama's campaign in 2008, strongly criticized Obama as having absolutely no understanding of foreign affairs, no understanding of Iran. Sarkozy called Obama's foreign policy 'utterly immature'.
Obama, as a narcissist, remembers every 'slight', every hint of non-adulation, any possibility that the Other Person would not be controllable by Obama. This letter to Chirac is 'payback' for Sarkozy's comments about Obama's policies as 'empty of all content'.
So, Obama effectively wrote this letter to show that Sarkozy and his presidency are 'empty of all content'.
Obama is pathological.

Decoys given $100 Visas to pretend poverty for survey
By JENNY YUEN, SUN MEDIA
The Toronto Sun
TORONTO -- The city is giving $100 pre-paid Visa cards to people who agree to pretend they're homeless when Toronto conducts its needs assessment of those without shelter.
In an e-mail sent out last week to different social agencies and individuals, city employee Monica Waldman said they are looking for "tons" of people to sign up to be "decoys" on April 15, the night scheduled for the city's second homeless head count.
"Decoys are essentially 'faux' homeless people for quality assurance purposes in this research," she wrote. "As a decoy, you would need to come to a 30-minute training session and then be deployed to various sites throughout the city where you will wait to be approached by the research volunteers."
Each decoy will receive a $100 pre-paid Visa card as an honorarium."

'Obama" New financial rescue plan offers 'glimmers of hope'"

"ROCKVILLE, MD--(MARKET WIRE)--Mar 23, 2009 --
MarketResearch.com has announced the addition of Unit Economics' new report "The New Global Ice Age," to their collection of Energy/Environment market reports. For more information, visit http://www.marketresearch.com/redirect.asp?progid=67618&productid=2069052.
Abstract of Unit Economics' Report: "New Global Ice Age"
"At first glance, a research piece predicting significantly colder weather seems rather bold. In reality, we're very confident about this report. That's because we are not so much predicting colder weather, but are instead observing it. More important, we're attempting to coax our readers to view recent weather data and trends with a neutral perspective -- unbiased by the constant barrage of misinformation about global warming. We assure you, based on the accuracy of climatologists' long-term (and short-term!) forecasts, you would not even hire them!
"For example, in 1923 a Chicago Tribune headline proclaimed: 'Scientist says arctic ice will wipe out Canada.' By 1952, the New York Times declared 'Melting glaciers are the trump card of global warming.' In 1974, Time Magazine ran a feature article predicting 'Another Ice Age,' echoed in a Newsweek article the following year. Clearly, the recent history of climate prediction inspires little confidence -- despite its shrillness. Why, then, accept the global warming thesis at face value? Merely because it is so pervasive?
"Unfettered by the Gore-Tex straitjacket of global warming dogma, one might ask some obvious questions. Why, in 2008, did Toronto, the Midwest United States, India, China, the United Kingdom and several areas of Europe all break summer rainfall records? Why was South Africa converted into a 'winter wonderland' this past September? Why did Alaska record its coldest summer this year -- cold enough for ice packs and glaciers to grow for the first time in measured history? Why has sea ice achieved.."

According to Politico and PJM’s own Jennifer Rubin, barely two months after the inauguration, the mainstream media has its proverbial knickers in a twist over Obama’s ineptitude in office. Even Thomas Friedman - that most conventional of all purveyors of the conventional (except David Gergen - and he’s been straying off the reservation too) - is now complaining the onetime Messiah is not taking the financial crisis seriously enough, “getting in trouble cracking jokes on Jay Leno comparing his bowling skills to a Special Olympian.” Meanwhile, CNN is appalled the President pushed through a skillion page skillion dollar stimulus bill no one seems to have read.
Hello, children, you elected this guy. Take some responsibility!
No, don’t go complaining the people did that. You did it. Obama is your man, your hero. You never vetted, never examined him in any depth at all, even though the candidate had hardly any experience other than running for office. (Oh, yes, he was a “community organizer.” So was I, in a sense. You want to elect me?)
So now we are going to hear that Timothy Geithner or Press Secretary Gibbs or whoever should be thrown under the bus. No, sorry, it is the MSM that should be going under that now overused vehicle, committing hari-kari before the public does what it should - disenfranchise them completely. [Must be getting pretty crowded under that bus.-ed. Like the stateroom scene from "Night at the Opera."] The election of Barack Obama was orchestrated by our mainstream media. They anointed him. They should suffer the consequences.
But what we have instead is an orgy of finger-pointing."
