Good evening, welcome to the Wednesday night edition of Late Nite Radio.
The Great Bailout Gravy Train is a long one -- you can't even see all the way to the end of it -- and as it disappears into endless congressional tunnels, no one knows exactly where that freight of goods will end up; the only thing you can be sure of is that it's all going somewhere.
In tonight's musical selection Bob Dylan assures various and sundry that they're all going to meet at that Million Dollar Bash.
The thread is open for your Reader Tips.

Will there be porta potties at the bash?
Yes, with locking doors.

The beginning of the fallout from Obama's prurient campaign against "the rich?"
Guards stand outside the offices of AIG in response to death threats; an Iowa Senator said he'd feel a little bit better if the AIG executives would commit suicide; Democratic House Financial Service Committee Chairman Barney Frank smirks when "death threats against AIG executives and family members were read aloud to him."
"It's a mob effect," one senior executive said. "It's putting people's lives in danger."
Canadian blogger Dr Mabuse (kraalspace) writes "I think that this sort of public coarsening will be seen as a first step to the destruction of the U.S. as a free society, and its replacement by a fascist one."

Thanks to a concerned Missouri state policeman, a nationally syndicated radio talk show host stated that he was alerted last week to a secret Missouri state police report that categorized supporters of Congressman Ron Paul, Bob Barr, and myself as "'militia' influenced terrorists." The report, he said, "instructs the Missouri police to be on the lookout for supporters displaying bumper stickers and other paraphernalia associated with the Constitutional, Campaign for Liberty, and Libertarian parties."

Things is getten wierd down thar
Senator Chris Dodd apparently admitted on CNN tonight that he did write the objectionable bonus clause, and knew of its wording and existence, but that he did so on the insistence of Obama administration officials. I don't have a link, but I'm sure you could find it at the CNN site.
Interestingly, at no point in the report is Dodd identified as a Democrat, whereas every report on Chuck Grassley's "suicide" comment identified him as a Republican. But there's no media bias.
EBD:
Despite Dr Mabuse's musings, it's been pretty apparent that the US has, under the guise of "fighting terrorism", been turning into a fascist state since 9/11. No-fly lists which can't be challenged, illegal wiretaps, illegal snooping on Internet traffic, internments at Gitmo with no charges and no trials - the list goes on and on.
But that's a little unfair - the trend started with the "war on drugs", where some of the same tactics (wiretaps, mail intercepts) were used, and of course, there's the famous "no knock" entry, which on more than a dozen occasions resulted in the deaths of completely innocent people. Both "wars" have contributed to the erosion of all the rights the Founding Fathers cherished. It's sad.
This is a must see (it is an hour long though)

Shawn; things may be getten weird down thar but I'll bet you will never see the fascist state tactics we saw in good ol Canader during that Cretin's rule. Let's see:
1. Police raid National Post and seize document presumed from Nat'l Development Bank.
2. Police raided ex-Pres of Dev. Bank home and offices multiple times; find nothing.
3. SWAT raids prairie farmer for selling his wheat.
4. SWAT raids elderly Nanaimo couples home looking for misplaced paperwork.
5. Ex-Police officer who has become a thorn in "Justice" Minister's hide ($2 mil Gun Control Bill) is arraigned on 32- year-old previously discharged accusation.
Best I not go on.
Watch what goes on down South and remember.
And now on to a lighter note: Amapola
I take some of your points, KevinB, but there's a world of difference between what a government in a fully democratic country with regular elections does and a general societal condition of mob inflammation that, ummm, may or may not be based on the prurient rhetoric an empty populist leader used to get elected. Check the last century to verify that one.
I didn't link to Kraalspace because I felt the conditions she warns of are occurirng. Her post wasn't scripture, but I think she's prescient -- sniffing the wind -- and that she makes an interesting point. Her underlying premise, as a warning, is sound: the spectre of mob behaviour -- "eat the rich" -- being winked-at by government officials is a more dangerous possibility than that of a government in a country with regular elections and a free press making "security" decisons during their time in office, because the latter can be voted out. You can't vote out a mob, or decide that the pitchforked-ones should stand down to let someone else take over.
In my opinion, Obama absolutely pandered to the inchoate anger of people who blame everyone else for their station in life, and as things potentially go further in the crapper, that's not a very good starting point in political terms. The way his highly successful gambit plays out will have huge repercussions in the future. Obama is playing both sides. HIS administration rewrote bills to ensure that public funds get through to pay off rich execs, but then he publicly expressed outrage at the rich so-and-so's getting rich on the backs of the less well-off. You must admit that that is a ripe opening for all manner of manipulation to be undertaken in the most cynical way with an end game in mind.
Good link Doug.

I somehow kept seeing Warren, heh.
EBD - inchoate - great, haven't heard that in a while!
Things are going to get very strange south of the 49th
I'm not sure how this will all play out
Sadly, we don't have a great helmsman down there, which is a big worry
And, gold standard - that will never happen. Never. I get Ron Paul's thoughts about how the US economy has been abused - but it's too late for the failure of fiat currency now.
Funny, I did too Ron!

"Kevin Gaudet: Eliminating the long-gun registry will end a $2-billion joke on taxpayers
By Kevin Gaudet
Many jokes get played on April Fool’s Day. This year, however, April 1 brings a chance to end one long, painful, and expensive joke that has been played on taxpayers and law-abiding gun owners. On that day, the Parliament of Canada will debate ways to improve gun registry in Canada and to save tax dollars—in part by ending the long-gun registry. This will be accomplished while maintaining public safety.
Thankfully, the debate won’t just be rhetorical. It will involve voting on a private member’s bill moved by Garry Breitkreuz, the veteran MP for Yorkton-Melville. Members of Parliament will have a genuine opportunity to end this outrageously wasteful program.
Back in 1995, then justice minister Allan Rock sold Canadians a false bill of goods with Bill C-68, the Canadian Firearms Registry. The idea was to create a national registry to license long-gun owners and their guns, much like provinces do with cars and drivers."
"The long-gun registry has been a wasteful fiasco from inception through execution. Taxpayers may finally get satisfaction on it with the passage of Mr. Breitkreuz’s Bill C-301. MPs should be allowed to vote freely on the bill, without following party lines. If they do, then overdue change may finally be at hand."

"The AIG bucks stop at Obama’s desk
American taxpayers are in a justifiable rage over news that executives of insurance giant American International Group (AIG), which has received $180 billion in federal bailout money since October 2008, gave themselves $165 million in bonuses they obviously do not deserve. Now, President Obama and Timothy Geithner, his Treasury Secretary are attempting to score cheap political points by condemning the AIG bonuses and promising to sue for the money’s return. This is political hypocrisy at its worst. Obama should stop blaming George W. Bush and take a cue from another former White House occupant, fellow Democrat, Harry S. Truman, whose famous declaration that “The buck stops here” set the gold standard for presidential accountability. The AIG bucks stop right at the desks of Obama and Geithner.
Let’s review the facts: Geithner, as New York Federal Reserve Board head under Bush, was the chief architect of Toxic Asset Relief Program (TARP) bailout, which funded the bonuses that now have taxpayers seeing red. It was Obama who put Geithner at Treasury despite the latter’s failure to pay federal taxes four consecutive years. And it was Obama who promised that Geithner would present a detailed plan for completing the TARP clean-up he started during the Bush administration. So it is hypocritical in the extreme for Obama and Geithner to now pose as if they didn’t know AIG was going to be using TARP funds to pay the bonuses. Just two weeks ago, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Obama and Geithner were “confident” they knew how TARP money was being spent.
After saying they would try to block the bonuses, administration officials then said they would instead apply more stringent rules to the next $30 billion round of bailout funding. But if the White House has the power to call the shots on how bailout money is spent “next time,” it also had the power to do so in the first place.
The fact that the Treasury Department is still largely being run by leftover Bush appointees also lands on Obama’s desk with a loud thud. He still hasn’t nominated enough people to fill critical posts at Treasury. Instead of appearing on late night comedy shows like Jay Leno, - humor-challenged Obama devotees can tune in Thursday night - the president and his aides should be burning the midnight oil until this critical department is fully staffed and functional.
And speaking of hypocrisy, let the record show that Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd inserted the amendment to the $787 billion economic stimulus package that made an exception for the AIG bonuses. Can you guess which insurance company contributed nearly a quarter of a million dollars to Dodd between 2003 and 2008?"

More on Sen. Chris Dodd's blatant lies. Remember, he first said that he had nothing to do with that infamous clause in the Stimulus Bill [that's the Bill that no-one in the House, Senate or White House, including the President, bothered to read before they passed it - with all Republicans in the House refusing it; and only 3 in Senate passing it.]
"On Tuesday, Dodd told FOX News that he didn't add the exemption.
"When the language went to the conference and came back, there was different language," he said then. "I can tell you this much, when my language left the Senate, it did not include it. When it came back, it did."
Gosh, a Magic Man wrote it in. But the next day, Dodd, a Senator in Congress, admitted that he had written it. Hmm.
At any rate, Dodd now says that 'it was the Treasury' that made him, as Chair of the Committee overseeing this bill (no Republicans were part of this group)...write it in:
"Dodd said the argument put forward by Treasury was that a "flood of lawsuits" would come forward if the change was not made.
Dodd said he was unaware of the AIG bonuses at the time the bill was being written back in early February. He also said he has no reason to believe Treasury officials making the argument knew about the AIG bonus."
Now wait. Think about this. IF the Treasury said that IF this amendment wasn't included, THEN, there'd be a 'flood of lawsuits' - what would those lawsuits have been about? Since the amendment referred to and only to bonuses, these lawsuits would have been about..guess what..bonuses.
Therefore, the Treasury Department DID know about these bonuses.
Next, Dodd says,
"When asked how administration officials have this kind of leverage over members of Congress, Dodd said, "The administration has veto power. ... No one suggested a veto to me, I don't want to imply that to you. But certainly that's not an insignificant tool."
No, Sen. Dodd, the Constitution of the US, Article 1, Section 7, says that IF the Administration (code word for Obama) rejects a Bill, that same Bill has to be returned to the House, who MUST reconsider the Bill. And if 2/3 of the House still approve of it, it goes to Senate, and if 2/3 approve of it, "It shall become a Law".
And Congress cannot pass a law taxing only AIG and cannot pass an ex post facto Law. That's Article 1, Section 9.
What does it mean? Those bonuses are legal. What does it mean? It means that the House and the Senate ought to read the Bill before they vote on it. And the President ought to read something other than His Teleprompter.

Very funny!
Here's an interesting story about a UK immigrant who refuses to do business with customers who have refused to learn English. Be sure to look below his photo, where I made a connection with our HRCs!!!
Yes, Obama's inability to think and his reliance on being told what to say, is becoming quite public.
He cannot answer questions about 'his' policies because he doesn't understand their infrastructure and effects. He promotes these policies because they set up the Administration rather than the people, as the Powerful agency.
His need to control people and remove power from individuals is the basis for all his actions.
But, he's being called 'TOTUS' or the Teleprompter of the US'.
The question then arises - how does someone, with his psychological need to control and to be adored without question, react to the development of dissent and criticism?
He has his basic set of three strategies: misinformation, manipulation and accusations of bias.
So, he'll tell the public lies; he'll misinform them.
He'll break his campaign promises because he doesn't operate as someone of integrity attached to his words. His words are pure manipulation, meant to make YOU do something. Not meant to commit himself to any particular action.
And he'll blame others - such as Bush and 'the past administration'. And he'll blame you, the citizen, for 'greed' and other such sins'. He wasn't in the Rev. Wright's congregation for 20 years without imbibing this strategy of emotional blame of others.
He'll smear and sneer at anyone who criticizes him.
Then - he'll try to ignore anyone who criticizes. You aren't existent; he'll consider you invisible.
He'll 'return to the people' - he'll have to periodically go to sites where he is adored and feted. He needs this as he cannot handle criticism. So, psychologically, he'll require more and more Love-In Fests where handpicked crowds will scream over him in adoration.
He'll start to ignore the sites of criticism, such as Congress, and focus on the sites of adoration - the Town Halls, the TV studios, the ribbon cutting ceremonies.
He can't have ceremonial press meetings for foreign presidents/PMs, because they set up the Other leader as important, and also, expose Obama to unscripted press questions. He cannot deal with any unscripted questions.
Quite fascinating - watching him destroy the middle class and capitalism..and also..watching the American people waking up to the reality of his agenda.
Johann, thank you for that link to Lawrence Martin. His pathetic statement that journalism has moved to the right of the Canadian public must fall under the category of, "If I tell a lie enough times, maybe enough people will believe it."
Because of the parrot-like behaviour of so many in the MSM, look for others to recite this now as a fact. It's how the Left operates.
On a related note, the Abbotsford chapter of the BC Teachers Federation wants to buy more & more shares in assorted media outlets with the hopes of getting more favourable coverage. These nutters also believe that there's a vast right-wing conspiracy in the media.
How anyone could watch last year's U.S. Presidential election campaign or Canada's recent Constitutional Crisis and come away believing that there is a RIGHT-wing bias in the media is surely beyond the comprehension of even the most learned psychiatrists the world over!
It's one thing to have different political views but to think as Lawrence Martin does takes a special kind of stupid.

Soccarman: Yes, thanks for mentioning the Asper artile. I think he has touched on an issue that is a serious problem in our country -- bigtry to the point of McCarthyism towards Conservatives with a belief in religion. He correctly points out that the same "gotcha" journalism does not seem to be used against Liberals. Everyone should read the article at:
http://www.nationalpost.com/todays-paper/story.html?id=1405199
I posted this comment, but it has not shown up:
Asper has identified a SIGNIFICANT problem in Canadian politics I am astonished as some of the critical comments. Attacks on religious beliefs or belief in a deity are NOT acceptable. Asper is quite right in mentioning McCarthyism, and also correct in noting that the attacks in the media are almost invariably aimed at Conservatives. The practice degrades political discourse and is hurtful to our democracy. If it does not stop, we lose all credibility as a tolerant and respectful society.

bryanr - yes, it is tough. I was on a Citizen's Committee, trying to get the TTC declared essential, i.e., so that the overpaid TTC workers couldn't strike.
Miller and his pet councillors [note; there are a handful of very good Councillors] are embedded with the Unions - who not merely fund, but provide 'in-kind' union workers for their election campaigns. The unions also do this for the federal Liberals.
At any rate, Miller was determined NOT to have the union declared 'essential' because he's obligated to the Unions. This ignores that the TTC serves several million a day; that the cost of a strike is in the multimillions; that children can't get to school; that, eg, there are 11,000 blind who can't drive..and so on.
At any rate, we provided a reasonable plan of 'what do to if negotiations break down'..that did not include a strike. Miller then got up and informed Council that - get this - that the UN Declaration of Rights included a specific article that 'the right to strike' is a human right. Miller continued that..Canada has signed this UN Declaration and he doesn't want to be the one to violate it.
But.. There is no such article in the UN Declaration of Human Rights. None. None.
We had earlier been told by Miller's minions that the 'Right to Strike' was in the Canadian Charter. We told them this was not the case.
But, the UN Declaration does say that it's a human right to work...and his TTC on strike would nullify this right.
But - Miller proclaimed this lie about this UN..and we were not allowed to rebut him. No discussion allowed. None.
He won by one vote. The Unions control Toronto City Hall.

Funny, but I must have missed the legislation that placed funding for Indian Band under provincial jurisdiction.
ET believe me i hear ya, Up here in Owen Sound our City Council has been slowly taken over by socialist leaning (NDP'rs)councilers, that would not have a chance in Hell of making it to provincial or fed levels. They are more interested in promoting the arts festivals then even trying to introduce any industry to the city. They feel this is the way to Economic Glory, Council wants to Build a Nicey New civic centre(with fed/infrastruture$$) that will bring more tourist when we cant make full use now of the one we have. They cant make up there minds whether a Walmart Grocery Expansion should go ahead as they feel it will mean the end of the grocery stores in the city, as they feel consumers Dont shop where they can get the best buy, they just think because its Walmart thats where you will go.(this of course will go to the OMB & the city will lose another hearing)and they forget that those of us that live here cannot continue to foot the bills by increased taxes when our infrastructure continues to decay. But it dont stop there, Any group outside the Arts Community,IE promoting fishing derbies or Antique/Classic Autos meets are met with more Rules & regulations that would make your head spin, when these groups bring Millions into the city every year & the Folkfestival has to be subsidized by the taxpayers for their loss's.
So you see ET, Its an epidemic and its spreading fast across the country, Until we have the Right to Fire our Municipal leaders if we are unsatisfied,(before an election yr) We are Doomed to failure. I think Margaret Thatcher's Opinion of Socialist said it all.
take care ET my days over Night all.

Has Big Media ever had it so bad? CanWest Global begs for survival. The CBC begs for survival. CTV is losing a bundle. Newspapers are bleeding and cutting to the bone; the online invasion threatens their survival.
Along with the new technologies, journalism is being pummelled by the great global economic nosedive. The crisis was brought on by excesses of the corporate class. Journalism, chiefly south of the border, didn't put up much of a challenge to the moneyed men before they climbed aboard their golden runaway trains - just like it didn't put up much of a challenge to the pap trotted out to justify the Iraq war.
