between the obvious and the left these folks cant find anything at all to write about.

This obesity study reminds me of the recent one that, after lots of study, concluded that men view attractive women in bikinis to be ... wait for it ... sex objects. What an unbelievable revelation, eh?!?

Looks like the Bush-haters are alive & well in Calgary! I guess that Obama effect has only lasted a few months!!

A bit late but this column on the moral shallowness of Obama by Charles Krauthammer is very worthwhile.

Mark Steyn may be a greater writer, but I consider Krauthammer to be better from a content standpoint.

Gord
Thanks - good read on Krauthammer. Spot on. I always try and catch his stuff. Obama's stem cell double dealing is astonishing.

Thomas sowell reads the gop the riot act over at NRO.

If the dems do well in the upcoming bye elections Steele is finished as leader and David frum will be frustrated in his attempt to return the GOP to the party of Dewey and nelson Rockefeller.

I think the chances are better than fifty percent that Steele is ousted and a return to the party of conservative values will begin in earnest.

Re the four Bush haters in Calgary, only in Canada would someone get arrested for throwing a plastic shoe at a building.

"New words for old

Tigerhawk has a wonderful analysis of the AIG situation. Read the whole thing, but two paragraphs stand out:

As applied to AIG, the word “bailout” is losing its meaning. The common equity is destroyed, so the owners of the company — the people normally bailed out in a bailout — lost everything (as well they should have). Lots of people have lost their jobs. It is actually a company in a form of (orderly?) non-bankruptcy liquidation or receivorship. The countless billions pumped into AIG since the fall have gone right back out the door to pay creditors of AIG, many of which are big financial institutions that would have taken much larger losses (and needed more capital from some source, probably the government) if AIG had defaulted. From this perspective, AIG is nothing more than a conduit for the government to distribute money to financial institutions without making new investments in them. Whether that is a bug or a feature depends on whether you want the government to own much larger stakes in all these companies, but this much is difficult to refute: The “bailout” in question is not of AIG, but of the counterparties of AIG. …

The salient feature of the late credit bubble was a massive shift in bargaining power from lenders to borrowers, all of whom pressed for lower pricing and looser covenants. It was borrowers who were “greedy,” from real estate developers to private equity firms to hedge funds to consumers who bought houses and cars they could not afford. Politicians and journalists who say otherwise are being ignorant or disingenuous, even if predictable.

There’s a condition called petroposia, a word coined by one writer to describe the drinking of gasoline by people dying of thirst in the desert beside their stalled cars. Drinking gasoline of course, only makes things worse. But heck, it feels good — for a second. Someone should coin a word for the urge to borrow more money in order to meet a mounting credit obligation. How about “bailout”?"

This Mornings CanadaAM hit's a new low.

Do you Know your Babysitter ?? something like that.
But on the screen was a shot of The PM & Finance Minister coming down the stairs in the HOC, Snickers & chuckles galore in the background with the other host making a comment on the Pic.
Anyone else see that.
This was No Accident by all means as their were No News Stories at all to justify a wrong pic, Blatant CTV Bash Harper.

The Honourable Jim Prentice gave a speech at Montreal North's Saint-Léonard riding for Saint Patrick's Day for a small crowd of party faithful from various Montreal ridings. He was very impressive in French and English and praised Harper's leadership skills, especially in getting first-rate equipment for our troops.

Prentice said he got into politics because he was so disgusted by the fact that our troops didn't even have the right colour khaki uniforms for Afghanistan and some soldiers would quickly change back into civilian clothes when they could to avoid wearing the embarrassing uniform.

He was also impressed by Obama's political skills and told of how, when he happened to be the first person in the room Obama greeted in a room for a lunch in Ottawa, he mentioned that his daughter had been at a huge rally for Obama in Chicago. Prentice's daughter phoned her dad to say that Obama would be the next President of the U.S. Obama told Prentice to ask his daughter to phone him so he could thank her for her kind words as a Canadian. All this to say that Prentice thinks Obama has great personal skills as a politician and that we should never forget that the personal touch goes a long way in winning hearts and minds, even on the ground level in our ridings.

As my personal touch I gave Prentice a Habs key-ring with "No. 1 Right-Winger" on it. Prentice appreciated the small gift from our West Island Pierrefonds-Dollard riding and said he is actually a Left-Winger in hockey.

Prentice struck me as of future Prime Minister material. I hope he is not too seduced by Obama on the environmental file, however.

gord tulk - thanks for the link to Krauthammer's article on Obama's amoral stance on embryonic stem cell research. Krauthammer writes,

"Yet, unlike President Bush, who painstakingly explained the balance of ethical and scientific goods he was trying to achieve, Obama did not even pretend to make the case why some practices are morally permissible and others not.

This is not just intellectual laziness. It is the moral arrogance of a man who continuously dismisses his critics as ideological while he is guided exclusively by pragmatism (in economics, social policy, foreign policy) and science in medical ethics."

And that's the situation. Obama is both intellectually lazy - and I'd add, unable to comprehend abstract analysis - and manipulative. His agenda is never the good of the people, but power. Votes.

That same lack of moral integrity can be found in Obama's 'faux outrage' over the AIG bonuses. These bonuses were contract obligations, made over a year ago, before any government monies were put into AIG. Obama's administration knew about them. The faux outrage has arisen both because the administration didn't expect popular outrge but also to set up a red herring diversion to sidestep the fact that billions of taxpayer monies to AIG went to fund European banks.

Obama's sleights and slights are yet again in action, whether they be misrepresenting what federal money could do for the Caterpillar factory, setting up Limbaugh to divert attention from the passing of The Stimulus Bill that Was Never Read or ..hiring ACORN to slip numerous 'speculated people' through next year's census.

I was at the Bush talk. He spoke very well, and had some interesting anecdotes, most of which were reported in the general news media.

One of the protesters was repeatedly shouting "napalm the suburbs". There were two older men with signs "The world is a safer place because of George W Bush". Nice.

"Indeed, the film’s only virtue - and admittedly this is a big plus in its favour - is that it has exposed finally, beyond all reasonable doubt, the ugly elitism and end-of-days mania of the environmentalist movement."

"Stupid, feckless, greedy: that’s you, that is

Spiked reports from the premiere of The Age of Stupid, a cretinous film that unwittingly exposes the elitism and dodgy science of the green lobby.

Imagine a film in which an Asian businessman who spoke loftily of ‘eradicating poverty’ was cast as the villain, while an insufferably middle-class wind-turbine developer from Cornwall was held up as the hero.

Imagine a film in which the audience was encouraged to giggle at the sight of the wealthy Asian using a red carpet to board his plane - ha ha, who do these foreigners think they are! - and was then cajoled into crying when the wind-turbine developer phoned his mum to break the news that Bedford Council refused him permission to build 10 new windmills. Imagine a film which played so promiscuously fast and loose with the ‘scientific facts’ that it strongly implied that the Asian businessman’s penchant for flying was responsible for fatal rainstorms in Mumbai, and that Bedford Council’s rejection of our heroic wind-turbine developer’s planning application led to Bedford’s ‘worst ever floods’ in 2007.

No one would make such a morally warped film, right? Wrong. All of the above comes from The Age of Stupid, a half-documentary, half-‘peril porn’ hybrid, which has been hailed by commentators as ‘the most powerful piece of cultural discourse on climate change ever produced’, but which left this reviewer feeling more than a little nauseous at its solar-powered, carbon-lite premiere in London yesterday. The film is so cretinous it makes Michael Moore look like a modern-day Bergman; so scientifically vacuous it makes Lysenko look like Einstein; so achingly middle-class it makes The Good Life look like a kitchen-sink drama about miners’ wives."

...-

"The Politics of Demonization

When the media keep repeating that someone is beyond the pale, some people are bound to believe them. Recent events show that radicals will even try to kill people who have been demonized in this manner. Perhaps that is the goal behind the policy of demonization: to neutralize and remove the people’s democratically elected representatives.

Recently, we are being confronted with the bizarre phenomenon of defenders of Western freedoms, including Jews, being demonized as “Nazis,” while subsequently Nazi methods are used to eliminate them. The authorities, meanwhile, do not come to the aid of the victims since the latter are “Nazis.” On the contrary, sometimes the authorities even praise the aggressors for their vigilance and their “intolerance” in the fight against “Nazism.” The Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn fell victim to this, so has his successor Geert Wilders and the Vlaams Belang party in Belgium, as has the German civil movement “Pro,” and many others.

As people generally tend to believe the media and mainstream politicians, events in Europe show how easy it is for violent activists to gain general approval for their use of Nazi methods against enemies whom they first demonize as “Nazis,” “racists” or “far-right extremists” who are “beyond the pale.” In this context the word “Nazi” no longer has any real meaning, so that the term is now also used against Jews wearing kippas and against the state of Israel. Indeed, the Israeli flag has already been compared to the Nazi flag, the cross of David to the swastika, the methods of the IDF to those of the SS. This language serves a clear purpose, viz. to demonize Israel and justify the use of Nazi methods against it. Today, those who are branded as Nazis know that they are being singled out for annihiliation. Just as, 7 years ago, Mr. Fortuyn was annihilated in the Netherlands.

Pim Fortuyn predicted his own death."

"Barack fools us

Whole world will pay for America's electoral mistake"

A young student friend e-mailed me on Tuesday night.

"Have locked myself in my room because the place is full of little idiots -- who cannot spell Barack Obama's name and could not name one of his foreign or domestic policies -- running around screaming obscenities about George Bush, conservatives and how Sarah Palin is a bitch. I love democracy!"

Even so, the people spoke. A victory for the hysterical Oprah Winfrey, the mad racist preacher Jeremiah Wright, the mainstream media who abandoned any sense of objectivity long ago, Europeans who despise America largely because they depend on her, comics who claim to be dangerous and fearless but would not dare attack genuinely powerful special interest groups. A victory for Obama-worshippers everywhere.

A victory for the cult of the cult. A man who has done little with his life but has written about his achievements as if he had found the cure for cancer in between winning a marathon and building a nuclear reactor with his teeth. Victory for style over substance, hyperbole over history, rabble-raising over reality."

Re Obama's continued skulduggery: apparently, not only did the bill he signed restore federal funding for embryonic stem cell experimentation, in a move of stunning scientific idiocy and personal mean spiritedness, the bill also DISCONTINUED federal funding for the very successful alternate stem cell experimentation, which used other cells, such as skin, instead of embryos.

Obama’s motto: My way or the highway.

Yes, that Krauthammer column is superlative, as most of his columns tend to be. After declining the president’s invitation to attend the signing of the bill at the White House, in a nice piece of irony (as Krauthammer’s in a wheelchair—diving accident), he said that, as a result of the president’s duplicity, he’d have “walked out”!

Barack's NCAA bracket will be up on ESPN today. Expect an self-righteous message from the Oval Office in the next week illustrating the plight of the common college basketball coach.

That's so like the Left, to avoid discussing issues and instead just focus on character assassination. Perhaps this "harumph" is angling to get a job within the Obama Administration? He'd fit in perfectly there!
