Does US 2009 = UK 1945?
From American Thinker:
Obama and the Triumph of the Fabians
QUOTED PASSAGE:
In 1945, the United Kingdom implemented a program of change at the hands of a new left wing government. The structure of support built up in previous decades, the way change was sold to the public, outcomes themselves have much to teach us about America's future.
To most Americans, the iconic image of British strength, resolve, and power is that of the cigar-chomping, bulldog-faced Winston Churchill defiantly growling "we shall never surrender" and "this is our finest hour" as Nazi bombs rained down on London every night during the summer of 1940.
Churchill almost single-handedly saved Britain from defeat at the hands of the Nazis, stepping up to become Prime Minister after Neville Chamberlain resigned in disgrace after diplomatic attempts to achieve "peace in our time" with Hitler proved folly.
But relatively few Americans may be aware that, despite his historic victory over one of the most evil regimes in history, Churchill was unceremoniously booted by British voters when his Conservative Party was defeated within weeks of Germany's surrender.
What followed marked the beginning of the end for the greatest empire since Rome.
The election of 1945 was a decisive victory for Britain's Labour Party. Labour gained 394 seats in the 640-seat House of Commons, named Clement Attlee as Prime Minister, and implemented historic changes in Britain, turning a once-great empire into a second-rate socialist welfare state in a span of 20 years.
A landslide blogger points out errors in landslide CO2 study.
Good link MND.
The scummy Labour Party used fake 'bread rationing' as a ploy to win votes in their next election after the War.
Churchill denounced it as a disgrace to the people of Great Britain.
Never before had they ever had bread rationing thru all their wars and turmoil of the previous hundreds of years, and here the Labor Party imposed it in a time of peace.
Obviously the fix was in and Labour won again.
And of course Canada's King Liberal crooks were involved with the UK scam thru the Canadian Wheat Board and the British wheat Agreement.
Which is how I found out.
Bizarre eh.

Some advice from an Australian Cop on our gang crime.
FOREWARD: "When one hears a cri-de coeur from an experienced front-line worker, such as a street cop, one should always pay close attention to it. The problems that Tim Priest, a former police detective from New South Wales Australia, describes are not isolated ones. First, there is the combination of willful political negligence which leads to police inaction that lets gangs develop and prosper in the first place. Canadians are becoming increasingly aware (Finally!) of the growing severity of gang problems in our major cities."

"Update on the “Chu Effect”
8 03 2009
One month ago, Secretary of Energy Dr. Steven Chu warned of apocalyptic drought in California.
“We’re looking at a scenario where there’s no more agriculture in California.” And, he added, “I don’t actually see how they can keep their cities going” either.“
USA today warned :
Calif. facing worst drought in modern history
Almost immediately after Dr. Chu’s pronouncement, the rain and snow started in earnest. As of today, all California Snowtel stations report normal snow depth and water content, as do all stations in Colorado where California gets much of their water from.
The combination of the Gore Effect , the Hansen Effect, and the Chu Effect may just save us from climate Armageddon. People in the AGW camp commonly leverage the power of symbolism, like swimming Polar Bears. Below is some good symbolism from Kirkwood, California - taken yesterday.
Over eight feet of new snow earlier in the week at Kirkwood provides an incredible final stop of The North Face Masters of Snowboarding."

"The EU will have to surrender to survive
The European Union is in danger of being crushed by the current economic and democratic crises unless Brussels starts to give power back to the member states, says Gisela Stuart.
I grew up in Bavaria, where the European Union and Nato were simply part of my political landscape. I had first-hand experience of the freedom of movement of labour when I came to Britain in the 1970s. In 1994 I was a candidate in the European elections. I couldn't fathom why there was such scepticism in this country about "Europe".
I have gradually changed my mind."

Spengler, Obama and his magic lamp
Most analysts expected Obama to adjust American foreign policy to the modesty of his circumstances, constrained by rising foreign debt and enervating entanglements. Instead, Obama has entered the foreign policy area with a magic lamp in hand, namely America's bottomless capacity to borrow, and the whole of the world seems to him a Cave of Wonders - at least for the moment...
Obama will run foreign policy precisely as he ran his presidential campaign, by dismissing consistency as the hobgoblin of small minds as he promised diametrically opposed things to irreconcilable factions. And the rest of the world will smile and nod and take American checks, at least for the moment, while there still are functioning governments to take American checks...
not exactly Churchill in depth, thought , scope or anything. but the press soldiers on to try to create something out of nothing.

We need a new Lancet study: How many excess deaths in Canada are due to bilingual labels on medicine bottles? With all the disclaimers and warnings and the French text, the essential dosage information in English can't fit on the label unless it's reduced to 3 pt. type. Try reading that in an emergency.
And the English setter in the photo isn't even groomed properly...

"Portrait said to be Shakespeare unveiled"
LONDON (AP) — Scholars studying the life and times of William Shakespeare unveiled a portrait Monday believed to be the only authentic image of the Bard painted during his lifetime.
Experts at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust believe the painting was used as the basis for the enduring engraving of Shakespeare that graces the cover of the First Folio collection of his plays.
Paul Edmondson, the group’s director of learning, said it was also used as a basis for the famous portrait of the playwright that hangs in the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington.
“What makes it so important is that it’s a portrait of William Shakespeare made during his lifetime,” he said. “We think it was painted in 1610 and several copies of it were made early on, including the engraving. So our portrait is the primary version of one of the greatest portraits of Shakespeare.”
The other images were all made after Shakespeare’s death in 1616, he said, making the newly unveiled portrait unique."

Aloha from Honolulu! I've been here for a week and though the weather has been mostly terrible (truly!) it has still been much fun.
I thought I should relate to you all a conversation I had with a hardcore Democrat woman yesterday. Here are some of the things I "learned" from her:
1. George Bush is to blame for all the ills in the world.
2. The Democrats have absolutely no connection with unions.
3. She has not heard anything about the Democrats possibly removing the secret ballot from union voting and is convinced this will never happen.
4. The huge amount of debt that Obama & Pelosi are putting America into has something to do with last year, though I didn't see the connection. Also see #1.
5. The Democrats are the defenders of the middle and lower classes. The Republicans only help rich white guys.
6. Obama will ensure that the deficit is eliminated within 8 years. How going into a much greater deficit right now will help this goal was lost on me.
7. Her 1-bedroom condo was worth $475K two years ago. It's now worth just $275K. She is applying for federal gov't help, which will lower her mortgage interest rate to about 4% until the mortgage is paid off (or she defaults).
8. California is in the bad shape it is because of bad Republican policies. When I pointed out that Schwarzenegger was a Rino (Republican in name only) and that in fact California is in the bad shape it is because of liberal policies, she wouldn't have any of that.
9. Because electricity is so expensive here she always unplugs appliances from the wall, rather than just turning them off. I tried to tell her that turning off the power switch meant that no electricity would flow through the appliance but she didn't want to hear any of it.
I would suggest to you that this is typical of the mindset of those supporting Obama.
God help us all!
