Instead of quoting directly from the column, I'll just link to Ted's excellent dissection using the internationally recognized acronym for mind-numbingly bad writing - H.E.A.T.H.E.R.M.A.L.L.I.C.K.

So this woman actually makes a living as a writer and she has won awards? I find that truly astounding.
Heather Mallick?
Is that old horror still employed? Good God.
Garth
This is where the CBC should start cutting.
She does know that 37 out of 50 states have the death penalty right? States that don't include the liberal whipping state West Virginia.
There is, of course, one bright side to Ms. Mallick's despair, which happens to be contained in this paragraph:
"I have been so reduced in hope by eight years of George W. Bush — and of course the next dozen of Stephen Harper — that if I don't watch my personal video recording of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report each morning, my day is shot."
It would seem that Ms. Mallick has conceded that Stephen Harper is going to be Prime Minister until the year 2018 (12 years since he became PM) or 2021 (12 years since this particular wail was published).
I have always maintained that Ms. Mallick is an excellent barometer of Conservative fortunes: if she's miserable, then things are looking mighty good. And under those circumstances, I think we can be magnanimous enough to let her seek whatever meagre amusement she can get.
I was supposed to be writing, but took a second to avoid the excercise and check your site for the latest.
Clicking on the H.E....K. link was a mistake.
Stephen King suggests that you should read lots of good quality writing in the genre you entend to write in. I might as well give up for the day and take the truck to the wand wash. It's pretty filthy and I myself have been contaminated by those excerpts. At least I didn't click on the link to the whole HM article. I might have never recovered.
placing the curser over H.E.A.....C.K. and seeing the link was going to take me to the cbc (she still works there?????)was as far as I was going!
PLEASE give OUR BILLION DOLLARS Back(even if they are only, 80 cent dollars)!!!!!
Heather Mallick. You can put lipstick on a pig and dress her up, but you won't be able to take her to the Special Olympics.
Heather Mallick used to write for the Globe and Mail. I recall that when I took the paper, which was many years ago, I'd start reading a column without noticing the author, be stunned at how ignorant and just plain stupid it was...and realize that, as usual, it was written by Mallick.
Besides her astonishingly stupid political comments, they also had her writing about her shopping; she's a 'shopoholic', spending thousands at her favourite store, the ultra expensive Holt Renfrew.
The fact of her bad writing, her very obvious stupidity and her expensive tastes, suggested to me that she was 'somebody's Barbie baby'; she was the daughter or wife or friend or whatever..of someone who would give her that job. Because there was no way in any Darwinian world that she got that job on her own merit. No way.
I wrote letters of complaint and the editor merely told me 'not to read her'. I cancelled.
Then, some years later, she pops up at CBC. Remembe that the 'cultural elite' in Canada are all embedded with one another. Mallick was given that job at CBC by her Barbie Doll connections. Not on any merit.
And that's the state of our information industry in Canada. We don't have any serious news analysts either in the news print or new media. We have no Krauthammers, no Hansons, no Sowells, no..nothing. We have no news shows of any depth; just one.. Steve Paikin's Agenda..which, although slightly or more so, left, is a serious attempt at analysis.
I wonder how much Mallick gets paid.
I think he was too kind.
Does anyone know if Mallick was a victim of the recent job cuts? If she wasn't laid off then that is proof-positive of how incompetent the CBC management truly is!
What a drab, screeching misfit. Another reason to avoid CBC in all its toxic forms.
ET is absolutely correct about the incestuous media network in Canada. CBC Maritimes is a classic case, but I suspect that things are similar elsewhere.
One of our local universities is holding a public lecture series this year; the first "distinguished speaker" was Heather Mallick, who whined about a misogynist public wrote her nasty messages after her appalling column about Gov. Sarah Palin. Next up is Judy Rebick. How low can it go?
I am stoopider for having read that. Instead of pop-up blockers there should be electric shock inducing web-link watchers that jolt you if you even think of clicking on a link to CBC. Let alone this illiterate windbag. How exactly does she get paid. For writing such short sentences. Let alone. Her useless political opinions. Perhaps. Retire? Please?
My mother, journalist for 25 years before she left the Edmonton Journal, and largely a liberal, would hate this abomination.
Off topic, and certainly discussed here before, but I'm just slow on the uptake sometimes: the Obama-nation -> Obamanation -> abomination. Coincidence? Providence?
Heather's brand of low brow sophistry dictates that if you can use "Me hate Hitler" and "Me Luv Obama" in every article you have rubber stamped "intellectual material" over it.
She's a good example of why the CBC boards are filled with weapons-grade stupid narcissists.
ET 2:33PM: "Remember that the 'cultural elite' in Canada are all embedded with one another"
As an academic Chinese family friend who did very well for herself here once said to my father, (with an outsider's invaluable perspective),: "in Canada, when you're in...YOU'RE IN".
I used to get the Globe on weekends just to read H.M.'s train-wreck columns. I couldn't look away. The woman is severely emotionally disturbed.
Actually she is a perfect fit for the CBC.
A great place for losers, the untalented and all those "socially progressive" folks out there.
Put them in one place and then just get rid of the whole useless lot with one massive funding cut.
I can hear the little piggy squeals all the way over here.
Anytime you see a column called "As If", you know you're in for some snark. Two words for this poor benighted soul: "any way".
"only the most morally bankrupt of the American states execute people now..."
She is the perfect "journalist". She has lots of opinions based on being misinformed and is too lazy to even include any actual "facts".
The people who voted Obama and for the Libs and NDP here eat this sh*t up.
"only the most morally bankrupt of the American states execute people now..."
Compared to only just the bankrupt (Massholetwoshits, Kaleeefoornia and New Yawk) that don't.
One problem with absence of talent at CBC is they are still getting paid. Not absent enough.
So HM just wants to get this out her Pro-Hamas support ...
"And then we come to Canada.
And then we turn away again. I don't want to talk about the absence of satire in Canada, where the Conservative government just turned away at the border one of the cleverest British politicians of this era, the vigorously anti-war MP "Gorgeous George" Galloway, nominally on security grounds.
i know i over use the word but stupid is all that will cover it.
"They are comedians. They run our lives and rightly so."
Could anybody that didn't work at the CBC ever right that.
ET- Mallick's father was/is a doctor, and her mother a nurse. Dr Mallick was a surgeon, who opted for general practice in his later years. He spiraled into pill pushing, and abortions toward the end. He was East Indian, married to a Scot, and that fact seems to trouble young Heather.
She was obviously spoiled, as you pointed out, but there are deeper issues in her background. Dr Mallick was well known for harassing young women patients about over active sex lives. He was a strange little man, who passed on some very disturbing traits to his little girl.
All this might be true, or not.
CBC and any connection to it represents the cultural elite in Canada. How dare any government allow it to "lay off" any one of them no matter how useless.
We have to realize the reason the CBC has announced lay-offs at this time. It gives their pals in the LPC an opportunity to spout off even though this government has been most generous with OUR corporation.
Hmmm. Hitler mentioned by a "progressive" in the same breath as Bush. I wonder what she was getting at...that's a tough one.
Let's see: three of George Bush's greatest critics are Al Gore, Michael Moore and Larry Flynt.
Al Gore: not in a concentration camp or killed by Bush's hand (yet....); winner of a Nobel Prize, Academy Awards, Emmy Award; millionaire; still gives public speeches.
Michael Moore: not in a concentration camp or killed by Bush's hand (yet....); winner of an Academy Award, best selling author; millionaire; still gives public speeches.
Larry Flyt: not in a concentration camp or killed by Bush's hand (yet....); millionaire; still gives public speeches.
Of course, I would imagine the Mallicks of the world would point out that this shows Bush's incompetence...
Mindnumbingly stupid. The idea that colbert and stewart would be viewed as significant in terms of satire and humour is just plain sad. Okay, I excuse teenagers for it, but isn't this woman supposed to be some kinda intellectual?
BTW, I appreciated each and every epithet posted here; my favorite was "old horror".
Why the H*ll doesn't Heather Mallick just move to the United States where she can enjoy the enlightened leadership of the Obamessiah and her comedy gurus Stewart and Colbert, unmolested by having to endure a Stephen Harper government?
She'd be happier and SO WOULD WE.
*This* is the type of employee Pablo "hairboy" Rodriguez was fomenting about in QP today? What a farce.
Heather Mallick may be a bad writer, but her accuser is an even worse writer. Consider the following statement:
"Indeed, that I don't go so far as to say that the reason she is such a bad writer is that she is also bewilderingly unintelligent, strikes me as being very gentle indeed."
Is this English?
Or:
"Do they mean anything? Of themselves even, let alone as they relate to everything else here?"
What kind of english is this? Its an insult to the English language.
Edward Michael George is also a bad writer.
OUCH! That's gotta hurt.
dp - if you don't know whether your comments are true or not, then you are writing in a manner that is quite similar to that of Heather Mallick. Equally, her parents and her father's behaviour can't be directly defined as causal of Mallick's ignorance and biases.
writer - well, I understand the sentences, which doesn't say much for me, I'll admit. But that's not the point of the criticism of Mallick. It isn't that she can't string a comprehensible sentence together in English. Of course she can. It's the CONTENT of these sentences that is being criticized - and this content is ignorant, biased and offensive.
Yes, but I'm a lowly commentor, on a little blog site. I also admitted to having no hard evidence, which Mallick never does.
As for the pill pushing and abortions, that I'm a little more certain about.
At least I think so, maybe. Don't quote me on it.
The sexual harassment I'm almost certain of. That is, if my ex can be trusted.
Anyway, something happened once, but I'm not completely certain it wasn't a bad dream.
Perhaps she is a narcissist. Wathched I, Physocpath documentary on the CBC last nite. Was actually very interesting. First person that came to mind was Obama. Decided to google "Obama Physopath" and came up with a really interesting article on narcissists/physo/sociopaths. Here is the link. Just click down load - it is a scrib article.

When they talk about how attractive Michelle Obama is, I think, come on, she looks like what Mike Tyson hopes to after he completes his Maori warrior makeover; but Heather Mallick? She brings ugly to such a level that, well, let's just say her face is her chaperone.
I used to love the CBC, but after Heather's Sarah Palin riff, I've had to wash my hands of her writing and I'm sorry, but it also reflects on the stewardship of the CBC. If the CBC wants to earn back some of its lost credibility it has to start with some pretty obvious editorial cuts.
Dumb bitch. I am losing patience to be polite to MFSBs.
mallick brings new meaning to the term "intestinal fortitude"
i don't know what that means but, god, how i detest her
Wasn't dp being tongue in cheek?
rube, I think you nailed it, but wait a left leaner is going to suggest it's what is expected of the knuckle draging crowd. Don't care it made me smile.
rube, just went back and read it again...same effect :)
Heather Mallick, it grieves me too even type its name, still is on the abomination know as the CBC, but, it gets better shes on the radio at the CBC as well. The show is called " The Point" with Ian Hanamansingh as the host. You can hear her, should you wish, after 3pm central. I had such a pleasure a week ago, listening to her in her arrogant, disconnected style blither on about her getting lost at the Toronto CNE as a child and how the mounties found her, and were so nice to her, yet, they now those mounties tasered to death that fellow at Vancouver's airport because they are all "Armed Thugs" it went on and on and on. No one told her STF, or challenge her idiotic meanderings Ian just let her blither. She is exactly what the CBC needs, in fact, maybe they should give Mansbridge the bullet and get the news read as it should be. Yes, that's it.
The CBC should make every single effort to clone this Women/Man/Transgendered Hobbit. I think they should pay her and her offspring perhaps,a million dollars a year, maybe until someone finds the hive she comes from and burns it.
Heather who?
"isn't this woman supposed to be some kinda intellectual?"
The tradtional meaning of the word, "intellectual" has been redefined and co-opted for quite some time now. Ever notice how the MSM latches on to a phrase, word or term, hammers it home again and again and effectively connects same with that which they want to define (or exclusively attribute to one group) by their own terms?
Words mean things; if you can redefine the formerly-popular interpretation (via memes and repetition) you stand a good chance of buzzwording your opposition via confusion. It's a despicable, underhanded tactic, but certainly there are those who spend lots of time researching social engineering...
Maybe in addition to Kate's juxtaposition theme there should be word-association exploration:
"__________ denier"
"inconvenient __________"
"_________ justice"
"______ spirited"
Dead thread, but good God. She has a better looking stache then me.That said,my 3rd year poem was way better then her "writing" will ever be.She personifies "it's not who you know,it's who you blow"!!
