Every time I write about the left-leaning bias at the Ceeb, I get letters and e-mails from the corporation's passionate fans saying that they hear and see alternative opinions on their favourite shows all the time. I don't doubt that they do hear other voices.
But then the CBC claims that their slant is somehow "mainstream" can't have it both ways.
And since when is Christian or conservative opinion NOT "alternative" in this present universe?
I can't think of any positives re continued funding the CBC, however by eliminating funding I can see positive savings of over one billion hard earned taxpayer dollars. Time for Don Newman and crowd to get a real job in the private sector.

"Spectre of ads on CBC Radio raised as board meets to discuss funding woes
By THE CANADIAN PRESS
TORONTO - The spectre of ads on CBC Radio is being raised as the public broadcaster meets behind closed doors to discuss its funding woes.
Friends of Canadian Broadcasting say the controversial tactic is just one of the harsh choices being considered as the CBC wrestles with a way to cope with the slumping economy in the next fiscal year.
The watchdog group has launched an online campaign to protest ads on CBC Radio, which it says would change the nature of the public broadcaster and take away needed ad revenue from smaller private stations."
Thank God for Lorne Gunter laying it on the line in the Nat Post!
He just said it all for me!
Kate correctly labels CBC the Marx widget factory, personally I see it as a Boar's nest of commies, as is the National Film Board, the second leg of the Canadian Karl Marx stool.
MSM is the third leg including the lefty pissants Simpson, Travers, Siddiqui etal.
Lorne Gunter is one of the best out there. Concise,thoughtful,informative...posits a sound argument. We need more of his type for balance,on all sides of the political spectrum.
As for the CBC, CRTC, Canadian Content Entertainers(CCE)and Independant Cdn. Producers...I'm sure they would love the private competition in Canada to fold so as to allow them unfettered access to the whole Cdn. market.
Fools that they are in that thinking they could ever hope to survive without the $$ that the private sector coughs up to their detriment.
Fools that we are if we allow these elitist pariahs unfettered access to the public purse through a socialist gov't/bureaucracy .
Hockey night in Canada and Heartand(best family values show on tv anywhere IMO)are only 2 shows I watch on CBC. Unless they are showing a decent Hollywood movie.
Uli, Gunter could possibly go back to work for Edmonton journal like he used to or whatever private media company thought he was marketable and had an audience. You know free market grown-up stuff.
With friends like "Friends of Canadian Broadcasting" who needs enemies.
I remember Dr. Laura saying something like parents who want to be friends with their kids instead of parents are doing their kids a disservice.
If FOCB were really serious about helping, they'd embrace radical solutions like ads on radio instead of being dogmatic (I remember snickering at the person the first time I heard that word) and insisting that public funding in the only way.
That being said, I think that the CBC must drastically reorg: strictly radio with cancon from coast to coast to coast. News, variety, music, and weather. Even both languages if you like. Every corner in Canada accessible with a simple AM transistor radio. They could even make a documentary about it: our future (radio) lies in our past (radio).
"cbc - a tiny niche market/audience. If it wasn't for hockey nobody would know they exist.."
Everytime that I look at the "Income Tax Deducted" portion of my pay stub, I think about the billion dollar per year handout that this giant parasite receives. Every chance I get, I point out that the CBC is the unworthy receipient of this largesse. One might be surprised at the number of people who have no idea that their tax dollars are being (mis)used to prop up something that they have no use for.
Oh, come on now. The show Being Erica had a lesbian episode the other week, with partial nudity and really graphic audio during the kissing scene (so audibly graphic that my wife, in the next room, asked "What is the dog chewing on?" on hearing the noise).
Surely such programming has to be worth something?
I listen to CBC Radio quite a bit. Probably a minimum of 1 1/2 hours per day and as much as 7 hours a day. (I drive truck, so I have a lot of time to listen) What I find is the CBC does an EXCELLENT job when questioning conservatives, Christians or any other group they don't like. They ask the hard, tough questions that should be asked. Then you get a liberal/socialist being interviewed and it is a different story. On more than one occasion, all the time actually, the CBC reporter will make the argument for the Liberal/socialist, helping them and never asking any question that could possibly be considered controversial.
Many people will argue "well that's what Fox News does for Conservatives!" That may well be true, but Fox News doesn't get a BILLION dollars a year from Canadian tax payers.

Hey uli.... The Fraser Institute receives no money from the taxpayer. Compared to spongers like the CBC, they're hardly welfare wingnuts. But no one expects any sort of accuracy from you, let alone a smidgen of research.
what's your point/arguement, really? Again, you make no sense. My point is that he has a marketplace and works based upon readership, not propped up by the state.
For those who missed it last week here is an excellent lecture (written version) on Why Capitalism? that was posted here last week by Charles MacDonald.
"what's your point/arguement, really?" There is no point or argument. The brainwashed simply don't have anything constructive to say or debate. Like a magnet stuck to the fridge door, swings faithfully as the door does, That's all they know. Sorry.
I make sure that the CBC does NOT enter into my home. I dont want my sons mind polluted with there propoganda and lies! SHUT THE SCUM DOWN! I recommend all tax payers revolt and refuse to pay til this scum goes away!!! Imagine the government had to get you to write a check every month instead of stealing it from you right of your paycheck.
Hey uli, the Rideau Institute, that well-known purveyor of leftwingnut propaganda also issues tax receipts... wonder how long they'd last without that indirect subsidy... Probably not as long as the Fraser Institute. Last fall's kerfuffle over the political party subsidies has revealed for all to see that leftists won't put their money where their mouth is (i.e. leftwing parties would die without getting money from the taxpayer) where as the right side of the spectrum will put their money where their mouth is.. viz. the fact that the CPC can easily live on individual donations...
Meh.... I doubt there will be much difference between Iggy's Libs and Harper's Cons in terms of governing the country in the next few years. Circumstances dictate what avenues are open, and there are precious few options these days, as Obama is finding out.
Uli,good grief.
Granted you must be tried from dragging that giant brain of yours around, but, you want the CBC? You have that choice. Knock yourself out, please. Perhaps its just,Canadians just shouldn't have to endlessly pay for bilge wrapped up as "news" when its just ideological driven goop.As for your comments on private media going broke, that's what happens when markets work, you provide service people respond, if you don't your buggered.

Mock our bunkers all you want but it's the only place left that's safe from the socialist left. Maybe their fear of the dark will stop them from taking the last few pennies we have left, because once Count Iggy gets into office he'll rape our treasury to rebuild the dying BIG industry in Ontario. Those business will still die, but the fools who voted for him will have jobs for a couple of extra months whilst the rest of Canada suffers from Liberal neglect. That's okay we are use to the Liberal Elites rewarding two zip codes.
I am joining the crowd that likes new laws. I want to see a law that every government department after an election has to find three programs to cut in their mandates. Accompaning a short recap of why not to. The old trick is to drum up opposition but this puts the onus back on the people spending the money. I used to have a reply to the HR lament we can't find good people. The response was stop hiring useless ones.
I haven't stopped by in awhile, but nothing's changed for the faux cons in here.
Well, Gunter certainly did get it right: "The problem is that it is human nature to recognize the opinions that anger you faster than the ones that comfort you."
Too true. That's why the mainstream media peddle emotion, and not fact. Why 'gotcha' pics and out of context soundbites flow.
And that's why - despite all the foaming of the 'right-wing' mouth here is so meaningless.
Of course the CBC is a big piss away of cash. It's a brutal use of taxpayer funds for partisan ideology.
It's the same brutal use of funds that finances the CWB. And the Human Rights Tribunal & Commissions ($350M/yr aggregate). And the piss away of money in corporate welfare through Industry Canada ($23B/yr). And the BDC. And the Atlantic Opportunities Commissar. And the Ontario ones (yes, thanks Cons for giving us 2 regional development bureaucracies in Ontario). And the rest of the regional vote-buying slush funds. Or the $200 million pissed away on our new political slugs in the Senate over their terms.
Better yet, let's examine the expansion of the civil service - and the increase of 24,000 full time positions created since the Cons took over. Or maybe the 21% growth in government spending during that 3 year time period - which excludes the $85 billion in deficits over the next two years - and the orgy of growth in government to filter the funds to the people who paid them in the 1st place.
Or the 1st class bailout of VanOc's massive cock-up - and the related $1B cost on RCMP bureaucrats by the feds.
Yes, keep on being angry. All you cons with the bright pink centers can get righteously riled up over the injustice and theft and idiocy of the Ceeb screwing your wallet and ignoring your viewpoints.
But, then again, that ain't really news, is it?
And you all can go back to ignoring all of the truly 'capital L' liberalism in place and growing: expansive government, large bureaucracies, partisan expenditures, and reduced freedom and liberty.
Sheesh, reading this over, I almost forgot - Jim Prentice's Carbon Tax. But, that's ok. Looks like all of you have already forgotten it.
Maybe Lorne will write about that soon, so you can get good and angry.
"The Fraser Institute provides tax receipts for donations. Which is an indirect subsidy. I wonder how much money they would get to push their propaganda if donors didn't get tax receipts?"
For chrissakes! Comparing the issuing of charitable donation tax receipts to a direct, one billion dollar per annum subsidy is quite a stretch. Quit embarrassing yourself. Some may find it amusing but most find it tedious.

So everyone who wants the CBC shutdown, start writing to your MP's about it. Send the same email or letter every month.
When 7 Canadians stand up, the government thinks it's a riot.
The role of the CBC, according to the head honcho, is to "define Canada to Canadians"
That kind of "head-up-their-own-non-stinky-asses" belief explains what is wrong with the CBC.
Take their budget and give it to the Armed Forces.
