Every time I write about the left-leaning bias at the Ceeb, I get letters and e-mails from the corporation's passionate fans saying that they hear and see alternative opinions on their favourite shows all the time. I don't doubt that they do hear other voices.

But then the CBC claims that their slant is somehow "mainstream" can't have it both ways.

And since when is Christian or conservative opinion NOT "alternative" in this present universe?

I can't think of any positives re continued funding the CBC, however by eliminating funding I can see positive savings of over one billion hard earned taxpayer dollars. Time for Don Newman and crowd to get a real job in the private sector.

Lorne Gunter is one of the best out there. Concise,thoughtful,informative...posits a sound argument.We need more of his type for balance,on all sides of the political spectrum.
As for the CBC, CRTC, Canadian Content Entertainers(CCE)and Independant Cdn. Producers...I'm sure they would love the private competition in Canada to fold so as to allow them unfettered access to the whole Cdn. market.

Hockey night in Canada and Heartand(best family values show on tv anywhere IMO)are only 2 shows I watch on CBC. Unless they are showing a decent Hollywood movie.

I remember Dr. Laura saying something like parents who want to be friends with their kids instead of parents are doing their kids a disservice.

If FOCB were really serious about helping, they'd embrace radical solutions like ads on radio instead of being dogmatic (I remember snickering at the person the first time I heard that word) and insisting that public funding in the only way.

That being said, I think that the CBC must drastically reorg: strictly radio with cancon from coast to coast to coast. News, variety, music, and weather. Even both languages if you like. Every corner in Canada accessible with a simple AM transistor radio. They could even make a documentary about it: our future (radio) lies in our past (radio).

Everytime that I look at the "Income Tax Deducted" portion of my pay stub, I think about the billion dollar per year handout that this giant parasite receives. Every chance I get, I point out that the CBC is the unworthy receipient of this largesse. One might be surprised at the number of people who have no idea that their tax dollars are being (mis)used to prop up something that they have no use for.

Oh, come on now. The show Being Erica had a lesbian episode the other week, with partial nudity and really graphic audio during the kissing scene (so audibly graphic that my wife, in the next room, asked "What is the dog chewing on?" on hearing the noise).

Surely such programming has to be worth something?

I listen to CBC Radio quite a bit. Probably a minimum of 1 1/2 hours per day and as much as 7 hours a day. (I drive truck, so I have a lot of time to listen) What I find is the CBC does an EXCELLENT job when questioning conservatives, Christians or any other group they don't like. They ask the hard, tough questions that should be asked. Then you get a liberal/socialist being interviewed and it is a different story. On more than one occasion, all the time actually, the CBC reporter will make the argument for the Liberal/socialist, helping them and never asking any question that could possibly be considered controversial.
Many people will argue "well that's what Fox News does for Conservatives!" That may well be true, but Fox News doesn't get a BILLION dollars a year from Canadian tax payers.

Well now,, I sure am glad Americans don't have to worry about Federally Funded Karl Marx Widget Factories, ;-)
