People seem to be suffering under the misaprehension that there were once other days. Don't kid yourself, what is called, above, "journalism" has always been a fraud, with rare exceptions. As Jefferson once said, the only truths in newspapers are the advertisements. Of course, he also said, a man who only reads newspapers knows less than a man who reads nothing at all. And don't even get me started on Mencken.
But don't pretend like it's something new, that doesn't stand up.
Neo - I've mentioned it before and been seconded, which gives me courage - I beg you - FIX your wonderful blog so it doesn't freeze my computer before logging me unceremoniously off the internet.
Vitruvius - please go on about Mencken. I'd love to read it.
I don't want to turn this into a Mencken link-fest, Mamba, not only because it's against house rules, yet you may find it interesting to "Search in Page" for /Mencken/ at this page:
I am sorry the kid is dead. I have two children, and I am sincere when I say that I grieve with the parents. "Perhaps the white roses stand for the two young men rendered helpless as a GO Transit train "sucked" their friend beneath it in spite of their screams and attempts to bang on the cars as the train rumbled westward."
This is why my wife and I have the regular argument where I plead with her to cancel the Globe. There are one or two columnists she likes. Me, I know how much damage one canceled paid subscription inflicts, and I long to inflict that damage.
Sympathies to this boy's family. It's too bad some people have to die due to a dumbass stunt.
Perhaps the NDP voting, latte sipping, Toronto crowd will be demanding an immediate ban on trains because of this incident. Let's make a $2 billion ski hill registry while we're at it.
Sorry to pile on, neo, but I haven't gone to your site for ages; it either freezes my computer or takes so long to load that I don't have the five or ten minutes of patience it takes to see what it is you've got on offer.
Why this blog? Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice
of an ordinary Canadian
yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

I can't answer or use every
tip, but all are
appreciated!

Holy hell, woman. When you
send someone traffic,
you send someone TRAFFIC.

I was being DDoSed. -

It's just the beat goes on.
Humans love it.
Don't look at me: I didn't design it.

Black Mamba: Glad I am not the only one with Neo problems.

I like the gun and bullet motif... Is it ironic or the prideful tune of an incarnated neo-con stereotype?
