People seem to be suffering under the misaprehension that there were once other days. Don't kid yourself, what is called, above, "journalism" has always been a fraud, with rare exceptions. As Jefferson once said, the only truths in newspapers are the advertisements. Of course, he also said, a man who only reads newspapers knows less than a man who reads nothing at all. And don't even get me started on Mencken.

But don't pretend like it's something new, that doesn't stand up.
