A guy that I know at work has a wife who's an exec at Polydor (I think). Brad (last name escapes me) and the rest of the CTDs were recording a Christmas album. Apparently, his rendition of 'Silent Night' was enough to send chills up and down the spine...
Certainly not a classically trained vocalist but a unique voice anyway.
Yeah, that's a great song. I don't like the wiki etymology listed for Solomon Gundy though - I prefer the etymology of corrupted Italian, "salami condite" - ie pickled meats. Sounds more elegant.
I have always liked this song. The CTD's lead singer has a compelling voice. I have not been lucky enough to ever meet Superman. But have know many Clark Kents in my days. Some in uniforms and some in work boots. But super in their own way. But would never think themselves as heros. But then again heros never do. Thanks Kate :)
Solomon Grundy,
Born on a Monday,
Christened on Tuesday,
Married on Wednesday,
Took ill on Thursday,
Grew worse on Friday,
Died on Saturday,
Buried on Sunday.
That was the end of
Solomon Grundy.
Funny, I had just been listening to this song, amongst others, as I migrated over to another computer.
Found this little gem mixed up with my '80s one-hit-wonders and thought "how did THAT get there?"
Possibly just because it's a slow song but this did the trick for me tonight. I had to put my dog of 12.5 years down this afternoon. Thanks for the background music Kate!
There's another one by the Crash Test Dummies that went by the board: "The Ghosts That Haunt Me." It's a combination of happy and morbid, which does speak to tough times.
hey thanks kate i really liked this offering ....iti s a nice break from all of the craziness of the world and it gave me an opportunity to just even through all of what is going on in this world ...it gave me a moment to thank god for all of my many blessing's that he has bestowed upon me ..so yeah thank youk indly keep up the great work kate your doing something that is ,good ,right ,and just !!!
Whenever I hear that musical eulogy, I can't but help remember, the many faceless heroes who have done great things in secret, at great risk, for little reward or recognition.

Why this blog? Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media

have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice
of an ordinary Canadian
yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Nobody. Sometimes I just post stuff because I like it.
nah, you always have a punchline...
Pete; The song has absolutely no meaning unless you know who "Solomon Grundy" is...
Were I to interpret Kate's posting of this song, I'd have to get in depth into the Tao of Dogbert...
You're probably not ready for that...
Suffice to say that... well... Just be glad...
Hey Bob, Supe had a straight job...
ps: Thank you Kate...

Great
After this and Mmmmm, I was surprised the Dummies didn't shoot into stardom. I guess they weren't weird enough.
My brother claims to have eaten Solomon Grundy once. Apparently, it's an acquired taste.
Very nice, a second time around.
sort of like a cobb salad

Few songs bring tears to my eyes, but this one does.
Thank you, Kate.
Love the song and the backup singer:

My sincere condolences Gen.
Thanks Kate. I had completely forgotten about that song. I think it means much more to me now than it did back in the 80s. Thanks again.

[Note: This video was ripped off from MuchMusic, and the volume level is pretty low.]
most enjoyable.
Wow, thanks Kate. I'd forgotten how much I loved that band.
"The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead" by the Dummies is also a very cute video, with an interesting message. From the Dumb and Dumber soundtrack.
Thanks Kate for reminding us of this band, who I certainly hadn't thought of in quite a while!
