Because One Brick Wall Is As Good As Another

"Why is a Manitoba Farmer, and others like him, asking the leader of the Liberal Party, which imposed the CWB's monopoly as a wartime measure, to liberalize the wheat and barley markets?"

We can't get rid of the Wheat Board. How will Canada Steamshiplines, the Martin family and Chairman Mo survive?

A majority Conservative government is what is needed to bring about effectual change. Governing with the socialist-opportunist, seperatist and commie-facist parties each DEMANDING that their criteria be imposed ensures that nothing relative is accomplished. LOOK they wouldn't even give up the $1.95 voter subsidy for the benefit of the country in this global financial malais. Add to the mix the squalling of the eco-fascists as well as the nation-building shreeks of Lizzy May and it is amazing that anything is done. This is the world of low CO2 emissions and no manufacyuring envisioned by the seditionists in the last election. Politicians from PEI want to run the CWB and politicians from Toronto want to run the oil companies. Meanwhile the only thing that can make Duceppe and Layton happy is to shut down the oil and coal industies in the west in order to save the world.

sois raissonable....get a majority Conservative government in Ottawa and all will be put right....in short order i might add.

and anyhow...in these economic times it's wisest to just wait and see how things develop...and keep your powder dry.

Because the Manitoba wheat farmer knows if the Conservatives try to kill the CWB unilaterally the Liberals will eat their lunch?

Because he's smart enough to realize the Canadian MSM is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Liberal Party, so if he doesn't get Iggy on side first the thing won't go through?

Because he knows Harper's CPC already wants to kill the thing but can't because of the two above reasons, so if you want it dead you better start putting the fear of God into the Liberals?

Dunno really, just sayin'.

We do not need a majority govt to kill the CWB Act.
We need a PM with some male parts.

The CWB Act does not conform to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Since all federal govt legislation must conform to the Charter of Rights because it is the superior legislation, it is the CWB Act that has to be changed.

Of course there are always those morons who think that having govt legislation that discriminates against an identifiable group of Canadians is ok, but the CWB huggers don't know bugger all about individuals rights or they wouldn't be CWB huggers.

It's that simple.
It is the duty of the federal govt to make the CWB Act conform with the Charter of Rights.
Votes don't matter.

And let me make the point - IT ALWAYS HAS BEEN THAT SIMPLE, since the day the Trudeau Liberals repatrioted the Constitution in 1981.

Just so western farmers know exactly who their friends are.

Maybe it's because he has a sense that Iggy and the Liberal Party of Canada are becoming VERY hungry to get back into power, so hungry in fact, that they might throw the guarded CWB under the bus to do so. Would it effect voters in urban areas, I don't think so, I doubt few know what the letters C W B stand for. Would it effect voters in rural eastern Canada, I doubt it. Would it effect rural voters in the west, it might, in fact it might cause them to win some seats, it certainly wouldn't cause them to loose any. The CWB may have been guarded by the Liberals all these years, but maybe only guarded by a few MP's in the party, it wouldn't surprise me that there are MP's in the party that don't understand the CWB. Liberals know what a big issue it is for rural western areas, and they know that more and more farmers want choice, so what better way to gain favor in rural western areas than to beat the CPC to the punch, and bring in their own motion to parliament, by removing the monopoly of the CWB. The CPC couldn't be seen to vote against it, and the Liberals would get the credit for finally getting rid of the Board. wala the Liberals gain seats and government!

CWB exists so that Libranos can control prices as they use lower priced grains as leverage in the world. Behind the cloaking devices of diplomacy and foreign aid, how to get cut into a deal...

Think people.

We won't be rid of the CWB monopoly until we ferret all the Libranos out of our institutions, media, swivelling services, and so on.

This is why the Librano cult must be crushed, pounded into dust, and launched into space, for once and for good.

Fire them all.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't PM Harper try to unilaterally remove barley from the CWB mandate, but then the courts struck it down saying that that's a parliamentary decision? If so, then it could/would be a confidence issue, and I doubt that that's a hill that Harper wants to die on. With a majority government, however, I could see Harper acting differently.

If, on the other hand, someone can get Ignatieff on board, then perhaps bilateralism just might work (for once!). To that effort, with respect to turfing the CWB altogether, it would help a great deal if Canadians were to see the words 'Liberal party' and 'wartime measure' in the same sentence, over and over. Make the CWB an albatross to the Liberals.

"A few fig leafs aside, the current government has not behaved appreciably better than their Grit predecessors."

Like OMG! The Cons are Cons? Like....OMG!!!!

Hey wait - let's get back to basics here:

"The Libranos made us do it"
"It was like that when we got here"
"The MSM is against us"
"Fire them all!"

(that last one is pure genius btw)

And when y'all figure out that Liberal/Tory same old story, you may come to think that smaller government is really what ultimately needs to come about.

Because a politician without a budget, is nothing.

And that reader, is why the CWB continues - it is institutionalized - and there's too many civil servants and politicians and bureaucrats who are vested in it.

That's why Harper will do nothing - the same as having done nothing about corporate welfare, the gun registry, the HRC's & HRT, health care, and increased spending by 20% in the first three years in office.

Suckers.

I don't know why farmers continue to grow wheat and barley then complain about prices endlessly. We used to farm but changed with the times when it was no longer possible to grow the business. We found other great ways to make money and continue to change with the times as markets change.

Stupid entrepeneurs get stupid results and I'm afraid in this case grain farmers are stupid. Farmers, when will you realize that the same behaviour will always get the same results.

P.S. Don't give me that emotional romantic crap about farming being the blood or family farm history. It's just the rhetoric of failure.

Hey "not stupid enough" next time you want to eat try it without a farmer making it happen.

not stirred, go ahead and try to make me believe you know one end of a plow from the other. I could use a laugh.

didn't Manitoba farmers just elect a pro monopoly type to the CWB?

Obviously they are happy with the low revenue,...

Stirred calling farmers "stupid" is funny because this is the guy who also said "people who save money for retirement are stupid". I hate to say it Stirred, but stupid is as stupid does(or says). I’d be surprised if you actually believed the nonsense you spew.

Iggy said he's a friend of the west. Working with the Conservatives to get rid of the CWB would put a little bit of meat on that bone, but I don't think it will increase seats in the west for the Liberals. It's fairly common knowledge that the Liberals have been the obstacle in the past wrt the CWB. In the end I don't think the Liberals will sacrifice the CWB for a little bit of western love, not at the price of being accused of being in a "coalition" with the Conservatives by Jack & Gilles.

If Iggy can help with the end result then encourage him. Tell him it will lead to Western seats. When it's gone, renege, state that is the Lib part of you but since you have returned to your normal senses you vote the way you want to.

Why can't we just make the CWB national policy? If is so damn good for the western farmers shouldn't the eastern farmers have access to the benefits as well, I mean fair is fair isn't. it?

"Stirred"....did you switch to growing weed?
It's about the only thing that pencils out for a profit most years.

4 years income across the border this time last year came and went. Could have kicked back for a couple of years (in jail even). Might have been worth the border run, or not.

Hands up everyone who actually is in the Ag business!

OR

Even peripherally employed because of the Ag business?

The answer to Why? Is that he wanted to make a point!

I'd say he succeeded.

Speedy, you know, if Iggy could make me believe that he'd give me a major tax cut, roll back regulations on everything, kill the gun registry, kill stupid crap like the CWB and shrink the size of government by half, I'd vote for him. Liberal or not, I don't actually care who gives me what I want so long as I'm getting what I want.

Of course Iggy ain't going to do that, and if he said he would, I'd believe him the same way I believe "not stirred enough" knows one end of a cow from the other.

Pressuring Iggy to make him declare he wants the CWB killed, that's actually a winning strategy. Voting for him, not so much.

rockyt: "The CWB Act does not conform to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms."

Since the CWB only affects western farmers and not those from Ontario or eastward, perhaps an s.15(1) case could be made against it. That's the "equality rights" section.

The irony is - Harper promised precisely the same things to conservatives.

And he's achieved nothing more than incremental crap.
