Is there nothing that Obama can't do?
Obama Signs Law Banning Federal Embryo Research Two Days After Signing Executive Order to OK It
(CNSNews.com) - On Wednesday, only two days after he lifted President Bush’s executive order banning federal funding of stem cell research that requires the destruction of human embryos, President Barack Obama signed a law that explicilty bans federal funding of any "research in which a human embryo or embryos are destroyed, discarded, or knowingly subjected to risk of injury or death."
The provision was buried in the 465-page omnibus appropriations bill that Obama signed Wednesday. Known as the Dickey-Wicker amendment, it has been included in the annual appropriations bill for the Department of Health and Human Services every fiscal year since 1996.
Oops!
(Related - above his, too.)

I'll bet he didn't know what was in what he signed, because he likely didn't bother to read it. This guy is no desk jockey, he is baska ball Jones.
Clinton didn't inhale, and Obama doesn't need to.
He and Clinton must have had an 'ah haaa!' moment.
Check Joel's post at proudtobecanadian
I think he did it just to show that it's up to Him.
What would Celine Dion do?
This will get you right to Joel's post on Clinton.

Apparently Obama and Clinton skipped sex ed class.
Gupta should be correcting Clinton but...no surprise...he remains silent.
Thanks Bluetech - updated.
Now that Pelosi and Reid have a clear indication that they can PASS ANYTHING because the wunder kind will NEVER understand what it is they are slipping his way.................
Was that before or after Bill picked the guinea pig up by its tail and its eyes fell out?
The "dickey-wicker" amendment?
Community organizing experience is over-sold as sufficient qualification to lead a super power.
Sean Hannity thinks Obama is in way over his head.
I suspect Sean is correct.
Good thing it wasn't that "wicker-dickey" amendment that bans all bans on bans.
Sgt Lejaune: Thanks for the gut-laugh! I'd forgotten about that (from probably 45 years ago when I was but a lad and had my first guinea pig as a pet that my dog ate one day when the piggie escaped from its outdoor hutch made from wood-frame window screens).
Am I dating myself?
Apparently Obama and his Executive team has no time to read anything that isn't on his teleprompter, and he has a misguided trust, or no choice, but to delegate the drafting and reviewing of financial bills such as The Porkulus to Reid and Pelosi.
He basked in the 'glory' of repealing the ban on fed funding of research on human embryos a few days ago (SDA reported on the filed "hero" photos of this and other photo-op events) and now he wears the embarrassment of being proven again as being incompetent at his job. The one thing going for Obama on this is that the liberal media will try to bury the story.
Obama has a very thin and weak team and he is rapidly learning that he is unqualified to be the President. No wonder he is going on vacation again.
I remember when I first tried to snow ski. I struggled to get to the tow rope that pulled me up the slope. The first few times I stumbled, stumbled some more and fell several times and eventually I actually reached the top of the "bunny hill".
Now, once there, how does one go down the hill. I learned by falling down alot and I mean, alot.
Looking back now, I remember that I could have taken lessons from someone who knew how to ski and who actually taught others how to ski. What does this have to do with anything?
Barry O decided one day that he was going to run for the US Senate. So he did and, guess what, he actually won. He gets to the Senate and once there, instead of observing, learning, studying, questionning and researching - this man decides that "getting here was easy - I'll bet getting to the Presidency of the United States of America shouldn't be a whole lot harder.
He didn't take any time to learn how to successfully manage his way to the bottom of the ski hill - no ma'am - he decided that he was going to go beyond the "bunny hill" straight up to the top of the "mountain".
Now, you good folks on this site who have skied on any respectable mountain, tell me, if you have not learned how to get to the bottom of the bunny hill - is there any hope in hell that you could navigate your way to the bottom from even the "easy" slopes of a credible ski mountain?
Not any I've skied on. Oh, you will get there by unclamping your skis, hoisting them on your shoulders and walking down the mountain. Do you want any of your friends seeing that spectacle? Nawwww.
With that I will tell you that Barry O is having a few sleepless nights these days realizing that quite probably he has bit off a whole lot more than he can chew and ever hope to swallow.
Can anyone explain to me how this person who has accomplished nothing (no - let me make that "NOTHING") in his life been able to get himself elected to the most powerful position on the face of the earth?
FORREST GUMP IS ALIVE AND WELL.
And there's also Obama on (and the MSM lying for him about) human cloning.
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/tim-graham/2009/03/12/ap-falsely-implied-obama-opposed-all-cloning
BTW, I've read at NRO that embryonic stem cells are clones, it's just that they're not implanted in a womb and birthed. And that Governor Arnold's bond-funded embryonic stem-cell research law would even allow them to implanted as long as they weren't brought to full term.
How could Bill Clinton possibly know about such things as embryos being fertilized eggs?
After all when Billy Boy was exercising his executive member('s) privilege in the Oval Office with Monica they were being careful not to fertilize the Union.
Only problem was that he wasn't being careful enough and got caught with egg on his face...no make that Monica that got caught with Bill's fertilizer on her face.
Something as inane as that anyway.
So seeing as Bill is still working hard at trying to grow up before he dies... I don't imagine he would find time to understand the finer points of conception, hence the juvenile gaffe.
Good thing the Clintons did the good liberal thing and only had one designer baby. Sure it's a slower way to kill off your own family than having no kids but it's still gets the job done.
Alex, I don't have much use for Islam at any level.
Call it bigotry, call it my natural reluctance to tolerate a culture/religion that seats women at the back of the bus.
Call me a feminist if you like. It's an insult I can take.
One of the best posts I have ever seen at SDA (with a h/t to PTBC)
With each passing day, just when you think it can't get any more demonstrable that Barrack Obama is an even bigger empty suit than even his most voiciferous critics have charged, he proves them wrong - in spades.
And busting Clinton and CNN's Gupta as his media enabler, highlights just how little game topline Dems need to have when facing said media - that is none.
No wonder they fall so short when they do manage to bullshit their way into office.
This Jimmy Carter like man, is going to get a lot of people killed. Just like the real one in the end acomplished.
JMO
Don't get me wrong,
I love to be proven right when I told my Obama loving friends that there may be no one in recent history with a greater divergence between his portrayal of the man and who he actually is.
But I'm getting a bit worried. He's in charge of the most powerful country in the history of mankind.
A slick talking snake oil salesman that is woefully in over his head, is at the healm.
It's gonna be a rough four years.
dickey-wicker, how appropriate
dickey-wicker is a bit of a sticky wicket.
Good grief.I just realized that the Yanks have elected a complete moron. How the hell did he even pass the bar test,if he can't read?Oh wait. You don't have to be able to read to say "present".Cripes.He even makes Nero look good.
ONE.BIG.ASS.MISTAKE.AMERICA.PET would be so proud.
Wow now that is impressive. I thought Obama as POTUS would no longer be able to vote present but thanks to Dickey Wicker he has managed to virtually do the same thing.
As for Bill well now I finally understand how he could claim to have never had sex with that woman.
Thanks Kate for clearing those things up for me.
Of course the dying MSM will cover the fact that most liberals are actually pretty stupid.
I can see the headline now. Clinton and Obama know the correct spelling of potato.
Obama- what a Machiavellian, be-everything-to-everybody poophead. LOL
Let the entertainment continue.
Let Obama single-handedly destroy "progressivism" for a long time to come...
He'll be a one-term wonder... even if the GOP still doesn't get it crap together. The GOP could run Mr. Bean against BHO and still beat him.
Of course, if the Big Media continues to protect his image from the truth, well...
Wonder what the Left will say now? Will they care, as they, after all, believe that whatever The Messiah does is always right, and that he's not to be questioned?
The Office of President of the United States has transitioned from Bush to bush-league.
The ONE will never, ever make the big league. He has no hop on his fast ball, and ALL his curve balls are preditable.
from mr. hero to mr. zero in just 2 months. america will soon be hoping for the return of george w
preditable >>> predictable
Sigh... more coffee, please.
"explicilty"
Not watching for asteroids and not watching for spellcheck, either.
Peter Sellers "Being There" explains a lot here.
As far as signing things, Obie really doesn't care and has no interest in things. He is clueless. He went for this job because he could, not that he actually cared what was involved. He is not a doer, he is a player.
The Unusual Science Revelation of St. O.
"Obama understands science in a deep way and reveals it by commenting on the beauty of new discoveries."
...-
"“I’m convinced that he [Obama] has an unusual grasp of science. Not that he can write down a differential equation. But Obama understands science in a deep way and reveals it by commenting on the beauty of new discoveries. To me, he deserves three checks for clearly understanding the power of science. … It feels like the marines are arriving — and just in time, hopefully.”

I'd like to see a military coup take hussein out of office. He is seriously stupid and seriously dangerous. You ain't seen nothin' yet folks.
And in completely 100% unrelated news,
the Russians have decided to reassert their muscle right next door to the US, with the latest move being talks for Russian bomber bases in Cuba and Venazuala (Fox just reporting).
Gee, with the world full of happy unicorns, and "hope and change" fairies, I have trouble believing external malevolent forces would try to take advantage of Obama's nakedly obvious unpreparedness.
Someone please tell me:
Why do people on the right have to be super-smart and back up EVERY position --and even then, having presented the most compelling arguments, be dismissed or ignored by the MSM -- while the moonbats can be super-dumb, aka wrong, wrong, wrong, and get a universal pass by the MSM?
What "law" is this?
Word on the street is,
Vlad "the Impaler" Putin,
rode into Venezuala on one of Obama's unicorns, then promptly had it slaughtered, and served to his special guard unit. Vlad was overheard saying: "I enjoy the taste of Uncorn heart....tastes kind of like chicken.....now pass some vodka, we need to finish up here and load the nukes onto the Tu-160's"
"What "law" is this? "
To steal a phrase from an old Zeller's commercial: "It's the law of toyland".
Hannity is right, the guy is in over his head and the fact that he still hasn't filled out the royal court with useful people to make his decisions look good tells me all I need to know. The truly unfortunate thing is it will take another Katrina or international crisis to show what an empty suit the POTUS really is. Really unfortunate in that a lot of lives will probably be lost showing the emperor's new clothes.
Actualy, Texas Canuck, the worst thing is that there is no credible opposition, and 2010 (the next set of congressional elections that might have a chance to reduce his power to do damage) are coming fast.
The repubs need to get their act together fast and create a viable credible opposition. Or a third party. But something is needed.
Or he will be running the US, Chretien like, for the next 8 years.
Stein had the best line last week.
"at least Jesus could build a cabinet"
"What "law" is this? "
Texas Canuck: "To steal a phrase from an old Zeller's commercial: 'It's the law of toyland'".
That's for sure. The Dems took this tin man called Obama, wound him up, and sent him out to do maximum damage. He's just a wind-up doll: no heart, no courage, and definitely no brains.
And we thought that "Chucky" was scary ...
This is nothing more than an example of 'social justice'.
Meaning that, Liberals see no reason why poor (less-motivated) people cannot live as well as their more motivated harder-working wealthier neighbors ...
Sooooooooo ... It stands to reason and it would only be fair ... that stupid people should get a shot at jobs usually reserved for smart people.
That my friends explains the complete "Social Justice" picture.
As a side benefit of Clinton's view of what is an embryo, we now understand why stupid people have more babies than smart people ... They don't know what causes babies.
By your reasoning, Momar, Beel Cleetone and Billary should have had a ton of kids: His comments on CNN prove that Beel's as stupid as they come ...
I think the situation is slightly different from the way that the CNS report outlined it.
I'm not a fan of Obama, but Obama's signature was almost irrelevant to this issue. The 'Dickey-Wicker' clause is the key issue; it's been in place since 1996, and explicitly rejects using tax dollars to create human embryos, or to harm human embryos for research. Only Congress can overturn that clause.
But, what Obama signed simply enabled tax dollars to go towards research on already-existent human embryos.
Lori - I don't think that the Republicans should 'get their act together' and create an opposition. There IS opposition and it is daily increasing. But it is grassroots and across the political board - it includes conservatives, independents, varied Republicans and also Democrats. I think that for at least a year, this widespread grassroots 'awakening' should be allowed to expand and spread. Don't constrain it by locking it into ONE political party. Let it expand freely from the grassroots - not run by an top down leadership.
Then, in a year, get a Republican leader, who articulates the majority of these concerns. That will attract a broader grassroots adherence than if you put in a leader and constraints at the present time.
ET - I see the rising grassroots opposition. But if it can't be channeled by specific candidates running in specific elections in Nov/2010 then it will be no good. The pro-Obama factions will be united, not necessarily because they think he is so great, but because they seem him as a gateway to holding power and furthering their own agenda.
The "republican leader who articulates the majority of these concerns" must also be one who will not alienate middle of the road Americans with strong socon views, yet somehow be acceptable to the socon group in the republican party. Look what they did to Michael Steele this last week for his non-dogmatic abortion views.
I wish I could, but I just can't seen this arising in the next year or two. Like in Canada, it might take a decade of suffering in the woodshed for the right wingers the USA to realize that regardless of some differences they have to unite to prevail.
CEO of the biggest corporation in the world.
And learning on the job.
Possibly the big O is knowingly playing both sides of the fence by allowing private and state-funded embryonic research, but denying federal funds for this purpose. This would give him the 'plausible denial-ability'that is coveted by our ruling class. As for slick Willy's confusion,he may have been thinking that the question was about embryo's that he had not yet fertilized.
If I understand you correctly, ET, what you are saying is that taxpayer dollars cannot be used to create embryos, per 'Dickey-Wicker'.
But, if private money, say from a pharmaceutical company or private university trust fund is used to create the embryos, then Obama's rescinding of the Bush order allows taxpayer dollars to be used to experiment on them (as long as they are not harmed, of course, wink, wink).
Wow, just, Wow!
CBCpravda reports with bravado.
http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2009/03/13/guantanamo-enemy-combatants.html
in this case , they changed the word. they didnt actually drop the designation.
change without substance.
Lori - yes, I agree with you. I think my 'year long' wait time is too long, for the honing down of the grassroots and asking Republicans to be the spokesmen for these criticisms has to be in place for the 2010 elections.
However, I disagree with your not seeing this focus arising in the next year or two. It is happening now. What is happening with Michael Steele is not a rejection of a focus, but, he's the wrong guy..and it's too early to focus.
For one thing, you don't focus on race - a factor that Obama and the Democrats have used and will increasingly use in the future. Picking Steele or Jindal because of ethnicity/colour, is an error.
And it's too early to focus. Allow as many grassroot expressions as possible. So, it shouldn't be Steele or Jindal or Limbaugh. But all and more.
I'm quite surprised by the extent of the grassroots concern. Even CNN, the stalwart Obama supporter, is criticizing him, is mocking him for his inability to think and his reliance on the teleprompter.
We'll see what happens. The Obama/Democrats will launch their own counter attacks..but..if you keep the current criticisms carried out by the grassroots rather than Republican individuals..this puts the Democrats in the disastrous position of attacking Americans. Regular Americans..rather than political Repubulicans. That puts the Democrats in a very bad light.
So, for now, the criticism ought to be grassroots and as broad and varied as possible.
