Because Greg Whats-his-name is the enemy;

"So we had in our custody a top commander of the Taliban, against which we have been at war for eight years and which, far from surrendering, has continued fighting and killing American troops throughout that time. But because Guantanamo Bay is purportedly a blight on our reputation in the international community (whatever that means), and because we have thus been under pressure from the Left to shut it down, we released the said top Taliban commander even as things were getting worse in Afghanistan. He, as anyone might have predicted, has gone straight back to the jihad. Now things have gotten so bad we've had to send more troops, and the guy we released is playing a key role fortifying enemy forces and helping them prepare roadside and suicide bombings against the increased forces we're sending.

But not to worry. The administration is working hard to make arrangements to release most of the remaining 240+ detainees so the President can make good on his commitment to close Gitmo by the beginning of next year."

Hey, but keep on keeping those eyes off the ball.

OUR enemy is the liberal MSM, not Fox.

HEH. That Obama is one smart dude. What better way to divert the publics attention in 6 months from the fact your country is heading for 3rd world status then to have a few terrorists loose, blowing things up? Can anybody argue with the cool logic of that? And not to worry. Pelosi will figure some way out to blame Bush, saying the "One" had to keep his promise to close Gitmo,BUT not the one about helping the economy.

Next time it should be "Unfortunately, he was shot while trying to escape"

Then Obama won't have to worry about over crowding at Gitmo or elsewhere.

Think of it this way Kate. By releasing them back into the wild, its a training opportunity for another generation of our soldiers.

Now they know not to take prisoners. We live, we learn.

What's that Lefties? Inhuman you say? The Phantom is a meanie you say? Well, what other conclusion should be drawn?

DemocRat in the White House means the wretched, dirty, hungry prisoner you take today will be back next month all pepped up from a rest in a nice bed, three halal squares a day and a hot shower every morning.

Every time I read something like that (and it happens disturbingly often), I think about emigrating to Israel, where the government and the people are serious about things like the country's survival.

Who wants to bet that he won't be captured again?

Maybe do a little study on what happened to most of the mass murderers of WWII. Maybe they are you doctors now.

here's a little exercise for you...

try to imagine if after rudolf hess had landed in Scotland..he was then thoroughly debriefed and settled in a garden apartment off leicester square.....put on the dole with a slew of entitlements.....and so on....

find that scenario too fanciful to credit ?....why does what was eminently just fair and prudent THEN become a social injustice today ?

The way I see it, GITMO will be shutdown one way or another and more mistakes will probably be made. All the talking in the world will not change this. Even Bush was trying to shut it down. It served it's purpose at the time before Afgh had a pseudo functioning gov't and there was a means to store 'illegal combatants' anywhere else. I would actually like to see these guys be transfered to Afgh and tried there or whatever the Afgh gov't wants to do with them.

The good news though is that it looks like Obama is going to do the right thing in Afgh by committing to defeat AQ and the Taliban. This is what is needed to resolve the real issues in Afgh and Pakistan and it sends a clear message to everyone from lefties to terrorists. If Obama stays committed to this then long term the US and the world will be successful in bringing those places into the 21st century and GITMO will just be a sidebar.

Do they get their weapons back? I hear there is a rush on sales up about 25-30% a month over pre-election. They probably will have trouble with the paperwork for new guns so they should get the old ones back. All that fertilizer? They are opening a commune and need it for veggies.

So, the article says the "Afghan Taliban and Pakistani Taliban have mended their fences in order to join forces against the surge in American troops in Afghanistan."

No s**t Sherlock. What a laugh. It was the Pakistani Taliban, with the cooperation of the ISI, Saudi Arabia and China who installed the Taliban in the first place (the religiously militant Taliban, who have common cause with AQ, and make up only 20% of the Afghan population).

Yes, we should mend fences with the very nations and groups that spawned the Taliban in Afghanistan, and eventually 9/11. Yup, good strategy.

If only we'd thought of that in WW2, when we could have sought peace by enlisting the cooperation of Germany, Italy and Japan..

What a friggin joke.

Your search - "Abdullah Ghulam Rasul" site:thestar.com - did not match any documents.

Guilty by omission ?? A new meaning to 'the enemy within'.

I had occasion to review "Saving Private Ryan" the other day and this situation brought part of that yarn to mind.

Capt Millar is convinced to release a German prisoner, rather than shot him out-of-hand, by a Politically Correct interpreter......who personally later encounters the same dude again.....and drops him without hesitation....

That's is an accurate anology....

"No good deed goes unpunished"
"The road to hell is paved with good intentions."

Obama wants the US to lose this war. To bring about the apathy of Vietnam where the left really came into their own. The more confusion with public disquiet, the better to eat the US Constitution bit by bit.
Besides he's one of them in his heart.

When the inevitable terrorist attack hits either Western Europe or one of the coasts of the US, it will be hard for those of us in the safe interior to get too excited about it. It has been the liberals from their bastions in those areas that have most undermined the fight against the Muslim hordes. By preventing wiretapping, releasing terrorist prisoners, and giving "constitutional rights" to our enemies, leftists like Obambi open the door for more attacks on soft targets in the Western World.

"Hey, but keep on keeping those eyes off the ball."

And ON Earth Hour?

That should have been ignored.

Actually try a nice cushy government job in post war Germany.

"In interviews, several Taliban fighters based in the border region said preparations for the anticipated influx of American troops were already being made."

Dan Rather must be a stringer for the New York Times now.

"Maybe do a little study on what happened to most of the mass murderers of WWII. Maybe they are you doctors now.

Posted by: News Flash at March 29, 2009 11:57 AM"

A little long in the tooth by now?

Yes... I thought the selection of "newsflash" as a nick was delightfully ironic.

One trusts that Canadian and American troops in Afghanistan will in future shoot, shovel, and shut up.

That was the only thing which worked with airline highjackers. They, too would be released almost as soon as detained.

Why the hell can't we "pretend" that the Taliban are GERMANS,instead of being low life, goat F*#CKING,third world non-whites,and bomb the living SH*T out of them like we did in World War I and World War II?

We had absolutely NO problem lauching 1000 plane raids against German civilian populations, and low and behold we won those wars.

So why the hell are we treating these Afghans with kid gloves?

A juxtaposition perhaps; Omar Khadr,about 235,000 hits.

ulianov, it I (or any other person with a brain) had been one of the screaming morons demanding this guy's release along with all the other poor victims of torture at Guantonamo, then that might be a fair statement.

As it is, you are the one who gets to wear it. And the no-prisoners lesson there from.

Ah, the short memory of the lefty. Must be nice to be able to forget the past every morning when you wake up, uli. Or is it the crack of noon in your case?

Anyway, pop quiz. Which party has been screaming since the first prisoner was taken in Afghanistan that the 200 year old, previously quite good enough military tribunal was suddenly RACIST RACIST RACIST and all battlefield prisoners were to be treated as if they'd got busted for J-walking on Broadway?

50-50 chance Uli, think hard bro.

It is at times like this that I wish that the CIA had injected these guys with some kind of tracking microchip. Maybe even one that a smart bomb could use as a target. Now back to reality.

naked twister this afternoon uli?

make sure your mom doesnt find out.

yes , your right. after world war II the justice was certainly swift and sure.
could you lefties stand an 88% death penalty prior to closing . some of the other 12% were incarcerated for more than 30 years. like you in moms basement.

It's results that count.

BTW - news today O's going to make the military advise the Paki Government in advance of launching strikes.....!!

Now didn't somebody already try that??

How'd that turn out?

Why is it that you people always remember ancient history but can't recall last year? And even the ancient history you remember wrong.

1945? Come ON uli, how about Korea and Vietnam? Or hell, even the Gulf War! Tribunals, uli. Tribunals!

One of these things is not like the other, uli. Uniformed soldiers of an enemy state captured while under orders, vs. non-uniformed civilians from countries other than Afghanistan captured in the act of firing on US soldiers and/or Afghan civillians.

Who wanted them free? Who wanted them tried in US courts? Who won the election?

Quoth uli: "I hate Bush!!!"

We got it uli. You hate Bush, and it has consumed your entire brain. My condolences, and work hard in rehab ok?

OT , but important .
GM boss told to resign by O!...... and he does .

flushing korans down the toilet. - seems just if you have ever read the crap.

biting genitals. - tell me uli if if something you havent tried yourself --- on yourself.

anyway , your moms home from walmart , time to get off the family computer.

GM = Government Motors

I wonder what the share-holders think?

ulianov, why on Earth are you taking the Grauniad seriously? It is socialist, aging hippy pap. Hey, I know, my sister reads it.

Ulianov:

You are overlooking the obvious. Bush did nothing with the prisoners for a reason. He knew the results would require him to grow some balls and execute them, and he wasn't willing to stand up and take the heat. His gift to the following President, whomever won. Maverick doesn't have the balls either. History shows that any democrat will be far more willing to use force on ANY opposition than the average Republican.

Ian

No, Ulianov wouldn't be comfortable with an 88% execution rate, which, given his "selection of ... a nick", is "delightfully ironic".

There should be nobody at Gitmo. It should never have existed. War is immoral unless it is waged to WIN. Kill and Conquer the Enemy. If you are the American conqueror, then you re-habilitate the entire country with millions of dollars and they become your friends. For Al Queda? Taliban?
That option does not exist. Nor should Gitmo.

And for all you commenters here who like to use the phrase 'Bush Regime'. Get it straight.
There is not now nor was there anything called 'Bush Regime'. It was the Bush Administration isasmuch as it was an administration that was run by constitutional fiat. Obama is a different story. IF his administration does become a regime it will only be because he was successful in implementing his far left policies and destroyed the constitution in the process. He is hard at it and if we are not careful he will succeed.
Therein lies the difference. Regime means oppression and suppresion. Administration means they govern with the permission and will of the people. Wise up.

Uli Comparisons to WW II are useless. To the best of my memory Hess flew to Scotland and helped set up the approach to Raeder for the surrender. Nobody I heard of flew to NY and gave themselves up. For all the villification of the Germans the military played by the same rules we did. They shot prisoners and so did we. I don't know of any Taliban POW camps or observances of the Geneva Convention. To the best of my knowledge the Germans didn't run around beheading people. The Taliban are closer to your hero who believed in starvation and killing anyone they think may, someday, sometime be an enemy. Your defense of the Taliban fits with your beliefs. The death camps were what the Russians did in fields

Of course Uli, because using a guillotine is just SO much worse than leaving 20,000,000 people to starve. Or sending retarded kids to blow themselves up in front of pizza joints.

Stop making disgusting excuses for communist war crimes, Uli.
(p.s. what are you talking about?)

actually the nazis used an older German form of capital punishment...(as well as some rather innovative forms of garroting)

and that older method was a broadaxe for decapitation...and the executioner actually wore(fiendishly gruesome German touch here)a top hat and tails....

this was the fate of the white roses...sentence pronounced in a 'people's court' by the despicable Freisler....who would have felt an instant kinship with our ulianov...who btw isn't fit to coexist in the same paragraph as the White Roses...

Uli honey, did you notice the headline at Drudge today? Dear Leader just nationalized GM and punted the CEO in favor of his own guy. That's what Hitler was famous for. And Mussolini, AND Franco, AND Saddam Hussein, AND whatever dirtbag is running Syria these days.

You are the one making excuses for Nazis, ulianov. Ones who are alive today, actively working to destroy our freedom. It is easy to heap coals on the heads of evil men who are safely dead, uli.

Actually uli the topic of discussion is the DemocRat driven, ulianov approved catch-and-release policy for Afghan terrorists. You're trying to make it about Geroge W. Bush, to avoid wearing the casualties occurring from catch-and-release.

I find it odd the amount of tears and hair rending you lot spend on a bunch of killers, frankly. One would think you were more worried about the rule following, well regulated, civilian led US military than people who peel the faces off young girls with bits of wire.

Wow, all of you downgraded from logical arguments to personal insinuations in record time! Grow up, its like an echo chamber in here; you just keep saying the same thing without reading the other person's post.

I agree with Snowbunnie, taking prisoners does nobody any good. Information deduced from torture is usually lies spouted to make the pain stop. The methods used at Gitmo are no worse than the crimes against humanity perpetrated by the prisoners.

I was never much of a fan of Godwin's Law because there's nothing wrong with a good Nazi analogy. However, as this discussion clearly shows, even Nazi analogies can become tedious if someone overdoes it.

The yanks promised to close Gitmo. They didn't promise not to transfer the terrorists to Afghani and Iraqi prisoners where they can be shanked in obscurity far from the prying eyes of the treasonous media.

That is the better solution anyway. The Yanks have to keep these guys alive. The Afghan and Iraqis are under no such delusions.

If only the TOTUS can figure that out...
