ooh, ooh, Special K?
Wow! That was way off. Nobody is going to guess this unless they cheat and look first.
I'm going with Dion, the little commie.
Sam S.
Iggy?
I'll embarrass myself....Taliban Jack.
I tried Mohammed. Close but no cigar.
Ok I was wrong but if you are looking at ego...
Yep, I did embarrass myself.
Wow, so far off.
The last paragraph of the article finally adressed MY reaction to what was in the rest of it.
Sam S.
It was Christ.
Way to ruin it Kirk!
Warren Katsella ?
Duoh, Of course, it's like soooo obvious.
Stop worrying people, Jesus is just a myth, and God and religion is nothing but story to sell to the ignorant masses. Oh and the same goes for all the bs religious crap out there, Islam, Jews, Buddhist, etc.
Zorpheous: you getting your religion education off the side of a transit bus?
If that helps YOU sleep at night Zorpheous, stop sticking your nose into what helps others sleep at night.
Catsella?
Yep, I picked a rag-head.
But, hold on there Zorph, God is no Myth, and maybe, just maybe, some of those ignorant masses need something to hold onto in this lil crazy up-side-down world we live in.
IMHO, the Ten Commandments are a pretty good guide to live by.
IM2ndHO, I have tripled my ammo stock since Hussien became President.

Zorpheous' Obamessiah just arrived. Talk about feet of clay...
i know that there have not been this many stupid people around in the past. as the fruit fly says there were only 2 billion around when he was born and it would seem the 4 billion who followed are getting dumber by the minute. the fruit fly only said 2 billion.
That "myth" changed my life top to bottom ;side to side, inside out. Who and what I am now I would not trade for a THOUSAND of the former me!!
Jesus, right?
He is no fool, who trades something he cannot keep for something that he cannot lose!
The need by the masses to have faith in something is perhaps the best explaination for such bizarre popularity of Obamamania and Kyotoism......
The Ten Commandments are likely an adoption of earlier Mesopotamian/Eygptian theology....non-the-less an excellant life guide/manual.
Is there a God...only our dying will tell and then hopefully we have made the right choice......
Sean Penn is everywhere this week
Well, I'd give a lot to see Obama act more like Jesus Christ, but I doubt he'd be the one for this story.
Nope. He'd give her a kiss on the cheek, tell her one of the disciples would be calling, and then make sure the video caught the evening news.
Christ, Kinsella...
The first was.
The second think's he's the second coming of...
WOW! I looked, but I never would have guessed that. How do the Anglicans get any air with their heads shoved so very far up there?
As for the "athiests" coming out of the woodwork; seems there are no real atheists any more, just anti-theists, which is a completely different thing.
After all, no one has to write books telling people not to believe in unicorns. You cannot be against something that is not real.
I believe Mr. Thompson has taken the story out of context. First of all, the scripture is from the 15th chapter of Matthew and not the 14th, beginning with the 22nd verse. This is what Walvoord, John F. & Zuck, Roy B. of the Dallas Theological Seminary say:
Matthew 15:21-28 (Mark 7:24-30). To get away from the questionings of the religious leaders, Jesus withdrew from Israel and went north into the region of Tyre and Sidon, the Gentile coastal region of Phoenicia. Tyre was 35 miles from Galilee and Sidon was 60. There He met a Canaanite woman. Centuries earlier that area’s inhabitants were called Canaanites (Num. 13:29). She pleaded with Him to have mercy on her demon-possessed daughter. She addressed Him as Lord, Son of David (cf. Matt. 9:27; 20:30-31), a messianic title. But even that appeal could not help her, for the timing was not appropriate. When Jesus failed to answer her and she persisted with her appeal, the disciples . . . urged Jesus to send her away. They seemed to be asking, “Lord, why don’t You go ahead and help this woman? She isn’t going to give up until You do.”
Jesus reminded them, I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel (cf. 10:6). He had come to offer to His own people the kingdom promised through David centuries before. Thus it was inappropriate for Him to bring blessings on Gentiles before blessings fell on Israel. But the woman was not easily discouraged. She saw in Jesus the only chance for help for her child. On her knees she pleaded, Lord, help me! Jesus’ reply caused her to realize her position, for He said it would not be right to take the children’s bread and toss it to their dogs. He was picturing a family gathered at mealtime around a table, eating food provided by the head of the household. The Gentile woman saw herself in this picture. She was not a child in the family (of Israel) eligible for the choicest morsels of food. But she saw herself as a household dog (a Gentile; the Jews often called Gentiles “dogs”) eligible to receive crumbs that might fall from the master’s table. She was not wanting to deprive Israel of God’s blessings. She was simply asking that some of the blessing be extended to her in her need. In light of such great faith (cf. 8:10), the kind of faith Jesus was looking for in Israel, He granted her request. Her daughter was healed . . . that very hour. This Gentile woman’s faith contrasted with Israel’s leaders who were rejecting Jesus.
Jesus Christ
If following the slo-mo suicide of the Anglican Church is your idea of fun, Damian Thompson is the man. How can they be such p.c. twits?
Orlin nailed it. Jesus initial response had nothing to do with racism or misogyny.
Way to go Zorph, keep embarrassing those of us who don't believe. Your ilk is no better than the feminists who claim to speak for "women". Like them, your type get on a soapbox and claim to represent the views of others who are atheist, yet you have no authority to do so. Your whole agenda to organize atheists in solidarity is a paradox. People like you come to atheism out of self loathing, there is no other explanation, there is no valid reason to be hostile to religious folk if you’re an atheist. Your type feel inadequate among those who follow a moral code; therefore, you turn around and throw stones at those you envy. You will be among the first to crack and look to God when your pitiful little existence is in jeopardy.
It bothers me not to say “god bless you”(there I said it, I wonder if I’m still an atheist?) and it is greatly appreciated when it is said to me. After all, it’s about the nicest thing a Christian wish for you. The truth is, when someone says “god bless you” to someone like you, you are so embarrassed of yourself, that you hold anger toward those that would bring you to God’s attention. It is similar to the anger one sibling holds towards another sibling that has ratted them out to Mom; except, it is my understanding that God will not punish you, he’ll forgive you, and you’ll feel better.
Leave atheism to those who have formed their beliefs from critical thought, and pick yourself up a bible. You will be much happier.
Without looking at the other answers :
Lord Jesus Christ.
Uh, Zorph...we are reading about an historical person here.Creative writing was not a common trait of fisherman and tax collectors.
But the choice to believe history is yours.
Roni...amen!!
'Cause people these days is too dumb for theology...
What did Jesus DO?
Typical. MSM can't even source the quote correctly. The text is Matthew 15:22-27, not Matthew 14:22-27.
Then they take it out of context. The "money quote" is Matthew 15:28...
"Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it done unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was healed from that hour."
These are the same idiots that insist that the bible cannot be taken literally when it interferes with their favourite sins. They just love to look at the world through the lens of their own prejudice.
Sigh. The ACC ceased being Christian some time ago.

Wow, you seem to jump to whole bunch of conclusions based on one tiny post, Indiana.
You clearly don't know the first thing about me, or what I believe or think. Yet it is very educational watching the reaction from many of the posters here. I got to admit, your post was the most entertaining.
Uh, Zorph...we are reading about an historical person here.Creative writing was not a common trait of fisherman and tax collectors.
But the choice to believe history is yours.
LOL, you maybe correct on that point, except the bible story was selectively written but a bunch of church insiders who thought the earth was flat and the sun revolved around it. Garbage in, Garbage out.
Oh, but the way, Ra was a historical figure as well ;-)
Zorph:
I believe Jesus was a historical figure and what distinguishes him from any other historical figure is that he said he was the son of God.
The texts selected for inclusion in the Bible was decided by on of the Seven early Ecumenical Councils, which were comprised of bishops from all over the known world at the time.
They examined, over two Councils, which texts most accurately reflected the message that a known historical figure has brought down to earth.
You certainly are entitled to believe whatever you'd like to believe, but it would give you more credibility to base you opinions on facts.

Prove Jesus existed,... the Bible isn't fact, it is fiction.
Zorph your "little comment" could serve no purpose other than to insult those who follow the religions that you've listed.
"...God and religion is nothing but story to sell to the ignorant masses. Oh and the same goes for all the bs religious crap out there, Islam, Jews, Buddhist, etc. "
What I know about you is this; your arrogance leads you to believe that you are wise and know better than the vast majority of human beings. You belittle other peoples believes, yet you can't possible know if your own beliefs are correct, unless of course you are God. I see no reason to have such animosity towards so many people that you would insult them, except the one I stated earlier: envy. Please feel free to correct me where I've gone wrong.
Zorph:
If he did not exist, then how do you account for the historical events that surrounded his time on earth?
A person could. for the sake of argument, say William Shakespeare did not exist. So, prove to me William Shakespear existed.
There's probably no such thing as global warming, so stop worrying and enjoy life.
Zorph,how's Garth doing these days?
zorph..if you choose to believe 'a being that crawled out of a blue lotus flower and became something else every day' as an historic event, that's cool with me.
Some of us believe in The Man that was witnessd by thousands.
How about a bit of mutual respect?
Key point....Jesus,or whoever or whatever h\s/he was,saw the errore of her/his way,and changed his/her ways to accept everybody,as long as they preached and Prcatised equality. Can we pray leftards, socialists, commies, facist,Islamists, etc. soon have this ephinany? Yeah, but only after a dose of lead.

So do you guys believe that Earth is slightly less than 6000 years old to? That only a few thousand years ago the Earth was nearly covered in water? That some guy guy survived three days in the belly of fish?
Jesus was a human construct taken from many more ancient stories. And those were myths as well.
Religion is a human construct that was required for the initial formation of societies, Religion was our parent, regardless of which religion you want choose to believe in,... but like all children, we can never finish growing to become true adults until the parent dies. It is time for us to bury this irrational belief in magical father figures with our belief in Santa and the Easter Bunny.
And for those of you who claim Jesus changed your life, no, you changed your life yourself.
Anyhoo, it has been laugh reading you guys, feel free to pray for me, and put in a good for me if you like. It will not offend me in least,... I am not offend when my Niece tells Santa that I want new Sailboat,... I just don't expect to see one under the Christmas Tree, nor am I disappointed.
How about a bit of mutual respect?

Do you respect the person who believes in Islam?
I certainly do not respect a person who believes that Earth is flat, or who believes the Sun revolves around the Earth, or believes that Earth is 6000 years old. It is very hard to "Respect" ignorance.
Orlin, Tenebris:
I believe you're missing the point. The Anglican Church of Canada is the source of the ridiculousness. The author is reporting the church's actions.
Why does it matter? As pointed out by Thompson, it is blasphemous because it allows for sin to inhabit Jesus, which is a no-no under most Christian faiths. Well, as a non-practicing Catholic I can only wonder how much advice I can take from a "man" who was never tempted by woman, or angered by another, who was "without sin". I guess I'm just a heretic, as many heretics were before me, because I would prefer to believe in a Jesus who was as much a man as I and as open to temptation as I, and as potentially bigoted a I am. And that he overcame all that makes him that much more the person I would want to follow. Or at least I would if my lack of faith didn't keep kicking in.
But we can't discuss the divinity of Christ anymore, or whether he was man, or God, or both since the councils of the early Church cured all that kind of heresy with a bit of blood and fire. Damian Thompson would have fit in perfectly.
This describes Jesus. His resurrection demands we pay attention to every word he spoke.
