As people were voting, candidate scrutinizers kept track of who voted, and cross referenced their "identified voters". From this, it was clear that [Ontario Young LIberals] First candidates were not wining. The president elect's two main campaign manager's then started to freak out - didn't want the opposition to get satisfaction they were able to beat them - it was personal, literally. So these campaign managers made fake delegate badges with the names of those who had not yet voted.
President-elect was then commissioned by her managers to find unknown delegates to take the badges and go vote again for the slate. After many questionable badges, and one nervous looking delegate, the fraud-ring was squashed.
In the emergency meeting, president - elect did admit to her role. President-elect should be making some sort of announcement soon, say within 48 hours. Her new exec is not impressed and may very well impeach her if she does not resign. But if that's where it ends, not all responsible will be held accountable. There is also a strong possibility that the YLC exec will now also be taking disciplinary action against one of their own, who each of my sources say was certainly involved in this. Lesson learned: in politics, friends are not always true friends, if they don't really have your back or your interests as much as their own in times of such crises. Lesson two: the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

I think we need to remember that SDA (a fairly "safe" acronym here) has a really wide audience: it would be very helpful if acronyms that are more or less obscure, like OYL and LYC, be spelled out the first time they're introduced.

Rat - There is a good reason why the CPC doesn't have a youth wing. Not many yooots vote Conservative. Yoooots generally vote left due to their idealistic view of the world.

At the Montreal convention the CPC narrowly defeated a resolution that would have created a youth wing - something that is anethema to me. Basically it was the reformers who defeated it as they remember what happened with Joe Clark when he got the nomination for the PC leadership all those years ago. That and the fact that it ghettoizes young delegates and makes then second-class members...
(a member (ex-PCer) who is now a cabinet minister tried to pull a small dirty trick and got away with it - sort of. He was taken to task after it happened and worse would have happened had his side won.)
As for this liberal fiasco - what sayeth Iggy? surely he should embark on a public enquiry into corruption in the party.

There were two independent candidates that beat the slate candidates (one of those independents was the son of current Liberal MP Bonnie Crombie) and the rest of the slate candidates (including the Presidential candidate) were acclaimed due to people being afraid to oppose them. I figure the reason the CPC has no youth wing is that you don't turn over your good name to a bunch of teenagers and their 20-something demagogues.
I'm sure senior liberals are extremely embarrassed and disappointed by this turn of events and I've no doubt many of these youth will be hauled aside for a stern talking to. After all, how could anyone be so hopelessly incompetent as to be caught so easily? Why weren't the accusations simply denied over and over again? Why wasn't the cover-up more vigorously pursued? I'm sorry to say this Warwick and others but the problem is with central Canadians. Central Canadians have shown time and time again that they will vote for the Liberals regardless of the track record. I do understand there is a rural/urban split, but as a whole Ontario is responsible for today's restrictions on the Conservatives, and the past consecutive Liberal governments. Ontario has been complacent while liberalism has run a muck in our country. Out west we've been fighting for what seem like forever against this Liberal scum.
The cultural differences between western Canadians and other Canadians is too vast to find a common ground. I'm not even sure what values central Canadians have, but I can assure you they are not the same as mine, and there is no compromise in sight.

It is easiest to personalize this and continue the political game of recriminations and vendettas (could be too harsh a word) for past political gamesmanship.
Maybe some sort of positive legacy can come from this unfortunate situation - if the OYL (and YLC) actually look at the root causes as opposed to only the immediate circumstances/actions.

Just look at the polling from the last election. Sure toronto-east is there base, but they poll not far behind the CP in many if not most of the ridings west of the ottawa river. IOW there are lots of CDNs from coast to coast who are prepared to look the other way or be will-fully ignorant of the systemic corruption that exists in the LP.
And do not think that there isn't a significant element within the CP that would and have engaged in such practices if they could/can get away with it. There is and I have seen it first-hand.
Sadly, most cdns think corruption is politics as usual and they only punish those who get caught it seems more for the fact that they were stupid enough to get caught than that they committed the act.

A slightly off topic observation of Puffin policy: Larry Bagnell, Liberal MP from the Yukon, got up after the budget speech and protested that there was nothing in the budget for Northern Mining. He said mining was very important to the North (including the Yukon, I surmised). Larry was displaying the height of hypocrisy by asking this question since the Puffins (under the old Juracula and later Paulie II), the territorial Dippers(in which the currant Premier was then a member), the fanatical environmentalists (many of them American), and the First Nations Chiefs (too many FN members were getting too independent by working in the mining industries) taxed and regulated ALL mining activity out of the territory. The 'new Yukon' is peopled, almost exclusively, with socialist transplants from Southern Canada (including Larry); most real Yukoners moved out of this 'pristine (wasteland) park' in the late 1980s and in the 1990's.
We now have a new Senator from the Yukon. This man IS a true Yukoner and the Conservative government should consider Mr. Danny Lang the true Yukon spokesman.
People everywhere in Canada should be questioning the transfer of millions of dollars to the 'luxury' welfare territory, filled with opportunists and socialists. The population of the Yukon is approx. 30,000 souls - in total. Dishwashers, working for the gument earn $23.50, to start, PLUS perks; Free medicare, paid trips outside, anywhere in Canada, for worker and family twice a year, isolation pay, northern living allowance.....Forget NFLD; Quebec and the N. Territories are the big sponges on Canadian taxpayers.
