Standing before a nation on an economic precipice, President Barack Obama aimed to balance candor with can-do Tuesday night in his first address to a joint session of Congress. Millions more anxious Americans were tuning in on TV.
In a related display of journalistic transparency, the Associated Press's Jennifer Loven and Ron Fournier hint at next week's winning lottery numbers.

Lol, they wrote their article before he even spoke. I wonder which one of these doofuses was the one who asked for Obama's signature.
DEWEY WINS BY A LANDSLIDE!
The fierce urgency of . . . when was that again?
Why don't I believe this Alfred E Newman look-a-like?
Have you seen what they claim the top 5 recommended comments were this week on the Commie BROADcasting Corp's site?

I think I'm gonna hurl...
(and people wonder why I'm down on democracy)
CBCpravda didnt have the story out early but failed to note the contradictory statements, although they listed them in their headlines.
'Day of reckoning has arrived,' Obama tells Congress
President to push ahead with plans for health care, education, deficit reduction
CBC misses the Harper interview on CNBC, the best bit of truth in the whole economic mess to report this fantasy world.
CBCpravda ALL LIEBERAL ALL THE TIME
"Comments on Obama's address came in early from Republicans, many hours before he had uttered a word. " There's some irony in there I'm sure. ;)
Sorry to spoil the fun, but it's now common to send out advance text copies of major speeches. It's done regularly with Fed Chairman Bernanke's
Nevertheless, "telepathy jornalism" is susceptible to hoaxes...
I'm with you Cal2. I can't wait to see how he's going to eliminate "Bush's deficit" and at the same time he has already blow trillions and will blow more trillions within 2 years.
There was a report posted over at Stephen Taylor's site the other day. It involved a leaked Corpse memo regarding the need for more cash and if not forth coming could mean drastic measures in spending cuts. That could mean...oh dear....maybe less PMSH abuse. This morning it was made official on the Corpse's morning radio news.
Please Mr James Moore do not give them a dime.

We really need some kind of award for the media's adulation of The Obamessiah.
We could call it the 'Media Tongue Bath Of The Week' or 'Media Tongue Bath Of The Day' award.
Who knows, some day it could rival the Oscars.
There could be several different award categories, ie Best Prescient Press Conference Coverage, Best Use Of The Words Hope And Change, Most Gratuitous Use Of Obama's Image, ....
In the radio and television categories we could have the Best Gregorian Chant Of An Obama Press Release.
Obama Hussien Barack needs to SHUT UP, everytime he opens his mouth the Stock Markets tumble.
I am really getting tired of his stump speeches, does he not know the campaign is over ?
Now, he is out there say it will take decades to fix the American Economy. This idiot ain't got a clue.
In the proud tradition of naming journalism awards after people, Pulitzer, Edward R Merle etc the people have now decreed that there is an new award for the Obama worshipers of our esteemed media. Henceforth it shall be called the LEWINSKY AWARD and it shall be given to the member of the media who best services the big OWE.
So far, the financial markets are giving another big raspberry to Obama's speech. The best thing the man could do for the economy is to shut up and do nothing new for the next six months.
Hilarious! Nice post, Kate.
It looks like Obama is a fan of The West Wing.
The difference being that Jed Bartlett took out the "we will Cure cancer" line.
That's exactly what I am saying Dennis.
I recorded his Talk-Down-Thru-His-Nose Stump Speech lastnite, won't be able to watch it till tonite, and hopefully there is a lil Smirnoff left so I won't get the dry-heaves before, during and after.
Obama Hussien Barack has made it clear he is going after the Rich Folks, and the Rich Folks have made it clear that until he backs down the DOW will never make over 10,000 again.
Stupid Liberals, they just don't get it. You cannot Legislate the Rich. Good Grief !

ian - I agree that "we will cure cancer" line really stuck out. No you won't. It's impossible in the next ten to twenty years to even envision that. "Cancer" is comprised of a complex set of malignancies, many quite different. So you won't.
If that is not possible, how much of the rest of what was said IS possible?
"Daniel M. Ryan: Sorry to spoil the fun, but it's now common to send out advance text copies of major speeches."
Yes indeed.
I lived in the UK until returning to Canada in '07. It used to drive me nuts to hear the BBC announcer on the morning news say, "At a conference to be held this afternoon, Prime Minister Tony Blair will state... (list of the principal points from the PM's speech)"
Why the hell bother with the speech if folks already know what's in it?
