There are two, not one, heads of state at the moment in the US.
There's Obama, whose focus is to control people, simply because he psychologically needs to do so. Socialism as a political structure, sets up a small Set of Elites who are Rulers-Guardians - and the rest of the unwashed who are ruled. There is no middle class of free individuals. Obama is a narcissist, focused around his revivalist, utopian messianic campaign of control. This type of personal neurosis becomes dangerous when unlimited power is added.
Then, there are the BackRoom Set, the hardline Democrat socialists who are actually coming up with the policies and programs that Obama preaches. Their agenda is ideological - that two-class, enslaved population.
The problem with this is that the Backroom Set can't be seen directly, can't be held accountable and have a clear agenda of rapidly changing the infrastructure of the US governance.
They 'use' Obama to get them passed - and Obama is difficult to confront on these new policies and programs not merely because he himself knows little about them but because he needs to control YOU, and therefore, he needs to make Congress and the people pass them. For his needs, not for America's needs. So, he uses his triad of misinformation, emotional manipulation and accusations of bias (racial, political partisanship) if you disagree with the policies.
The Republicans have to stand up, soon, before the Constitution is shredded, and simply, clearly, insist on debate, dissent and due process.

I feel that Obama is not doing this consciously. He's not an idealogue; he's not interested in policies and programs. His agenda is psychological. He needs to control how others act towards him. Put this aberration into a position of power and he must reduce the power of everyone. The middle class are the class of free people, entrepreneurs, innovators, debaters, dissenters,...and therefore, free thinkers. Obama has to control them and how they act towards him.

Think about it - how they got Congress to pass 'stimulation packages' without even reading them; how when people point out all the earmarks and port..the Administrations denies they are there, despite them being there, black and white, in print..And so on.
Have we ever seen a situation where so soon after election, a President's psychological nature is being openly discussed, where people are openly asking...'what is going on'. But, the administration simply doesn't hear or read. Now, how does one deal with that?

I used to believe that Obama wasn't an ideologue, though not to the extent of thinking that his anti-middle class policies are unconscious (whatever that means). But so many of his distributionist policies and proposals aim in the same direction and are consistent with his "community organizer" past in Chicago that I now think Obama's goal is to be a transformational president. We may hate his end-game, but I do think that his goal is to turn the US into a European/Canadian-style socialist welfare state, unrecognizable with what we've thought of as defining America. As Charles Krauthammer correctly noted yesterday, he's running with the ball and, in terms of popularity and political capital, sees nothing but open field in front of him.
So he's going to take it as far as he can until he's stopped -- the cost to the national debt be damned. But by then the path will have been set. If so -- and I fear it is -- then I think he qualifies as an ideologue. Apart from everything else, he has certainly mastered the socialist condescension (and so has his wife).

No, they prorogued parliament to bring to the public's notice the most vicious attack on our democracy in our history.
They made public an agenda, of the Liberals, NDP and Bloc, to take over our government acting as an unelected coalition, without an election, without a mandate from the people, denying the results of the last election.
They made public the framework, which based its power on setting up one political party, the Bloc, out of the electoral reach of over 80% of the electorate, to ensure that NO ELECTIONS would be held for at least 18 months.
They made public the bribes that funded this framework, including moving members of the NDP, who would never, ever, be elected by the people to form a government..into key government roles.
They made public the bribes to the Bloc, of over one billion in taxpayer money.
They made public the acceptance by this coalition that Canada doesn't include Quebec, for the agreements clearly stated 'Canada and Quebec'.
They made public that all Liberals and NDP had signed this agreement - including Ignatieff.
That's what that proroguing was about. A hidden and quiet plot, set up by the Liberals and NDP on the morning of the October election, to move themselves into power. Without the will of the people.

There has not been another Conservative Party Prime Minister since this is a new party unless one goes back about 60-70 years before they merged with the Farmer's Union based Progressive Party.

ulianov, the proposed coalition was immoral because it rejected the will of the people. It specifically insisted that it should be moved into governance without the electoral will of the people, without a vote, and set itself up as immune to this will for over 18 months.
That's unethical.
That's a vicious attack against our democracy.
As for its legality, there is nothing in our constitution that discusses coalitions or such things, so the issue is irrelevant. It is anti-democracy, a rejection of the will of the people - and that ought to be enough to reject it. Obviously, you as a marxist aren't interested in democracy or the rights of the electorate.
As for coalitions in other countries - so what? We don't have them here. Furthermore, if you weren't trying to obfuscate and slither, you'd be honest enough to say that those coalitions operate only with the will of the people. That is, the electorate KNOWS when they go to the polls, that their governing structure is a coalition. This was and is not the case in Canada.
Furthermore, the rule is that the party with the most seats gets to form the coalition. This would have been the Conservative party..but., IF and ONLY IF, the electorate had previously approved of the structure of a coalition governance.
Not one Canadian voted for a coalition government. Not one.
Not one Canadian voted for the three losing parties to form a coalition. Not one.
Not one Canadian even knew that such was being planned - as Dion and Layton began to plan it on October 15th of 2008. Not one.
Not one Canadian knew that this coalition would remove itself from electoral accountability by using a political party out of the reach of over 40$ of the electorate to maintain power.
And you, ulianov, the marxist, may indeed approve of bribes of cabinet positions to losing parties, of bribes of billions of taxpayer money to the Bloc for their support...but..even though you reject democracy, the majority of Canadians support democracy.
