Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation and pursuant to our Thursday night wild-card show, here is one of my favourite dance tunes from 1999, Danish D.J. Martin Ottesen, also known as Funkstar Deluxe, with his interpretation of Mr. Bob Marley's classic work: The Sun is Shining (3:33).

2 good news today:
- Obama will end the Iraq war in 2010.
- CanWest will go bankrupt tomorrow. (according to national news watch)
Even better news for today: most people had an ok day!
Aux armes, citoyens! There's a Globe and Mail poll about whether the CBC should have its budget shortfall made-up by the government and we're badly down 70% to 30%. Maybe it hasn't been fixed or freeped and it's just the Glib's reader base making its opinion known, but there's not much time left to try to win.

Andy, I don't think that G&M poll is real. Put another way, I believe the results are fixed.
Speaking of not real, did the rest of you catch Obama's statement that there are 0 (ZERO) earmarks on his recent financial bill?
Charles Krauthammer said there are 8,000.
Who's telling the truth? My vote goes to Krauthammer.
P.S. I wonder when the MSM will wake-up and call Obama on his bold-faced lies?
As a wild guess, I'll say never.
Right about the same time that the CBC poll is revealed to be rigged.
And how many defections have we seen in the other direction — from the skeptics’ camp to the alarmists’ camp? Seems like it’s been a one-way street so far.

"The Gamble: How Sean MacFarland's tactics turned Iraq's tide of violence
In this exclusive extract from The Gamble: General Petraeus and the untold story of the American surge in Iraq 2006-2008, author Thomas E. Ricks reveals how a young American colonel assigned to the insurgent stronghold of Ramadi in 2006 developed the tactics that changed the course of the war in Iraq.
A LIGHT IN RAMADI
Near the end of General Caldwell's press conference on October 19, a few minutes after the spokesman had announced the failure of the Baghdad security plan, one reporter had inquired about some odd reports coming out of Ramadi, 60 miles to the west of Baghdad. Specifically, inquired the man from Reuters news agency, why were armed civilians marching in the streets? What was going on out there? Caldwell responded that he hadn't heard about that and would look into it.
It was a good question, because Ramadi had been one of Iraq's most dangerous cities for years. This time, to the astonishment of anyone focused on Baghdad, the armed men were not members of al-Qaeda in Iraq but allies of the Americans, albeit tentative ones. Ramadi, the capital of turbulent al Anbar Province, had begun to provide a counterexample to Baghdad. That turnaround, led by Col. Sean MacFarland, would take place even as the senior Marine intelligence officer in the country pronounced the province lost.
Ramadi in 2006 would become the link between the first successful large-scale US counterinsurgency campaign in Iraq, in Tall Afar in 2005, and the “surge” counter-offensive in Baghdad in 2007.
By chance, MacFarland's unit first had been assigned to replace the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Tall Afar, in the far northwest of Iraq, and had spent several months there before moving south to Ramadi. What MacFarland and his subordinates had seen there was very different from how the US military had operated in Iraq for several years. The new approach made sense to him."

"Tiananmen mothers call for probe of 1989 crackdown"
BEIJING - A group of mothers whose children were killed in the 1989 protests in Tiananmen Square have renewed calls to China's leaders for a full investigation as the 20th anniversary approaches.
The Tiananmen Mothers - a group of mothers and relatives who lost family in the June 4 pro-democracy crackdown - has issued similar appeals before, but this one comes in a politically sensitive year where the government is scrambling to deal with concerns about social stability amid the economic crisis.
The open letter made public Friday called for an official investigation, compensation to the victims' families and punishment for those responsible.
It also urged Chinese leaders to "break the taboo" of the demonstrations and seek the truth behind the military crackdown against student-led protesters.
China's leaders sent tanks and troops to crush the peaceful protests on June 3-4, which were deemed a threat to Communist Party rule. Hundreds - possibly thousands - of people were believed to have been killed. The government has never allowed for a full accounting of the events and is sensitive to any criticism of its handling of the crisis."

A little black girl complained to her grandmother when the elder of her black church dressed up like Santa Clause for a Christmas Party. I heard the two grandmothers in conversation, getting a big laugh out of the little girl’s complaint. I was a member of that black church. (I attended regularly, weekly, for four years.) Of course it was fixed, that's what commies do. Playing fair is not in their rule book. I think it's long past time we started doing the same.
Conservatives spend so much time trying to be nice to liberals it's pathetic. We try to reason with them. You can't reason with a liberal, it's like trying to reason with a rattler. Pearls before swine maybe?
The way the world is turning against anything right and moral will only end one way. In bloodshed. I know it's a stretch from talking about a fixed poll, but fixed polls and stolen elections are all part of the left's agenda. Look at the way they are trying to suppress anyone critical of obama. Bush was fair game but not their messiah. Things are going to go downhill very fast from here.
Trust in God and your guns. Just my opinion folks.
bryanr - not only was the poll probably fixed but it went against other polls on the same question in other newspapers which polled the exact opposite. And, as you note, comments were almost completely hostile to the CBC.
On another note - [atheist]quebecois separatiste - kindly get your facts straight. The Iraq War was over about three months after it began. What took place after that, was internal insurgency against, not the Americans, but against the new Iraqi government.
Kindly brush up on some history. The ME has governed itself by tribalism for thousands of years. To move into democracy, where no tribe is dominant over others and where the people, each and every person, has political and economic power - rather than an elite tribe...was quite a change. The fighting going on in Iraq was internal tribe vs tribe; those tribes didn't want to lose their elite control and hand over power to the people in a democracy. That's what the US and other countries were doing; helping the new democracy develop. Kindly learn some facts.
What's your point about CanWest? The lack of entrepreneurship in Quebec, about 18.6% lower than in the rest of Canada, ought to be of more concern to you in your agenda of an independent Quebec.

The Winnipeg Free Press poll numbers were jumping all over the place yesterday. I mean, the totals would go from over 1000, back to 500 and back up again. So, yes, there was fixing, and it was internal.
Brianr, I don't think the poll was fixed. I think somewhere an email went out to hundreds, maybe thousands of union members, who were voting en block, possibly repeatedly (possible to do that if you clear your cache).
RE CBC - nice letter to the editor in the National Post today re a guy's experience in Montreal at the CBC
Re "poll fixing" - I don't know what that means. If someone circulates the poll to employees at the CBC in a mass e-mail, and asks people to head there to vote, is that vote fixing?
If SDA directs traffic there for voting, is that vote fixing?
I'm sure the numbers are real, it's just that word gets out to some people in greater numbers than others. And those who like "free stuff" will still want "free stuff".

Worth looking into folks!
RHTT - I don't know if it's a huge issue or not. Issues only become huge when they get mass media traction and public outrage.
Obama is American born, but if I had to guess, he and his mother's travels and activities may have resulted in him forfeiting citizenship. I don't know, and really I don't think it will make any difference.
In any case, it's too late now. Other people have tried to challenge this even before the election. It won't get mass media traction, and even if there was some procedural event to let citizenship lapse, nobody will pay attention.
Which is maybe as it should be. Article II Section 1 is *so* 1776.
erik- how could Obama's travels have resulted in him forfeiting US citizenship? That doesn't, to my knowledge, happen. Just because you live in another country doesn't mean you forfeit your citizenship.
If he forfeited US citizenship, he'd have to be a citizen of another country - and which one is that? And, in that case, he'd have to have entered the US with the passport of that other country.
It's a non-issue. His legitimacy would have to be determined by the US Supreme Court, and it has already acknowledged him, twice, by swearing him in as President.
What it needed, now, is to concentrate on make it very public and very clear - his agenda to deprive Americans of their constitutional rights and freedoms.
The story of Obama's birth is that he was born in Kenya and his mother took him to Hawaii when he was about 6 weeks old so he would be an American citizen and there were some fudged documents.
Kenyans have said they were there for his birth in Kenya, including his grandmother on his father's side, but these voices were "quieted".
If he WAS born in Kenya he could not be President of the United States.
Thanks ET - you are right - my laziness caught up to me - I should have reread before I posted:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/citizen.asp
There was some other stuff about him being registered by his mother as a citizen of Indonesia, and not the US, blah blah blah.
In the end, John McCain may have had a harder battle to convince people that he was a natural born US Citizen, given that he was born in the Panama Canal Zone.
In the end, I agree it's a non-issue. We are where we are now.

"(Iowa) State Officials Ban Tea From Tea Party-(Violates Clean Water Act!)
Via Snapped Shot and STACLU comes news that Iowa state officials have banned the use of tea by Tea Party protesters holding an event tomorrow in Cedar Rapids.
The tea violates environmental standards because it will discolor the water:
A Cedar Rapids group will do a symbolic tea dumping into the Cedar River on Saturday because state officials won’t let them use the real thing.
An anti-tax group wanted to pitch in real tea like the Bostonian revolutionaries opposed to England’s tea taxes.
Tea, although natural and quite tasty, is considered a pollutant that can’t go into a body of water without a permit, said Mike Wade, a senior environmental specialist at the DNR’s Manchester field office.
“Discoloration is considered a violation,” Wade said. What would our Founding Fathers say?"

The whole Obama-not-born-in-US thing is a sign of how pathetic some republicans have gotten. Conservatives have moonbats of their own, it seems.
EVEN IF he was not born in the US.... EVEN IF.... would the US, Canada, or the world be better off if this became an issue? There's no way he will out of power. It would just create more chaos at the worst possible time.
Look, we better accept the fact that 8 years of Bush's weak domestic policies (I'm being diplomatic here...) opened the door for the next democratic POTUS. It happened to be Obama because the man is a good talker. But practically ANY democrat candidate would have beaten any republican candidate, because that's the nature of politics. The repubs had their kick and the can, and did a shitty job domestically.
There's not much we can do about it, and now we have to eat shit while Obama and his cronies try to deconstruct and reconstruct the US according to their ideas.
But.... if conservatives in the US spend the next 4 years fighting last year's battle and not preparing for the next battle, and for gubernatorial battles, and for house battles, to gradually take back the ground that (I believe) Ronald Reagan and Newt Gingrich took, and that George Bush those he appointed lost, then we will have 8 years of unopposed Obama, and then possibly a constitutional amendment so that as the US is falling apart in 2016, only the SHOO (strong hand of Obama) can keep things together for yet another term.
It sucks that a socialist is running the US.
It sucks more that Republicans have forgotten what a US Republic is all about, and what the words of Jefferson and Madison were all about. Because in the long run, that's the most damaging thing of all.

Lori - re the death of conservatism - I do think it is happening.
Many reasons, but primarily because of the loss of the elusive "Puritan work ethic" - which encouraged self-reliance, accountability, and hard work.
Now, our society wants everything for nothing.
Where is the sacrifice that Obama has been talking about? He is essentially asking the *Chinese* to sacrifice their wealth, by continuing to buy US treasuries that will undoubtedly decrease in value.
Well, look for China to come in and buy up American companies/properties in the next year or two - they have to do something with all their USD.
Re:"yes, there was fixing, and it was internal." We know there was fixing going on (I was thinking CBC employees), because the majority of CBC fans are simply not blogging/Internet demographic.
"Obama has never produced an actual birth certificate" -- Moreover, he has spent about $800,000 in legal fees avoiding having to produce the $10 certificate. I think media will start paying attention to this when the public becomes sufficiently disillusioned with Obama and want to get rid of him. I think this will take a couple of years.
there is evidence that the birth certificate shown has been altered. its the Rathergate thing except the bloggers havent pursued it yet.
