Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation and pursuant to our Tuesday night vintage music show, here are the Victor Concert Orchestra performing Franz Von Suppe's Poet & Peasant overture, parts A and B (1915, 9:02). I doubt that many will bother to listen through to part B of tonight's show, and that's too bad, really: they simply won't know what they missed!

Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

Mr. Vit, If that is your turntable and your recording of said 78, (I think it's a 78?) well that's just cool. A different sort of upload to youtube.

well done.

If you want to put the boot into anti-Kathy Shaidle p.c. types, there's a poll here that needs voting:
http://shaidletheracist.blogspot.com/

The last I saw, "Is Kathy Shaidle is [sic] a Racist?" was losing with 71% in favour of Five Feet of Fury and free speech.

And it looks like you can't vote more than once, the way it should be, if you don't do any cheating on purpose.

duff sitting in the land of opportunity

Fascinating discussion on Rob Breakenridge's show (beginning at 40:00) regarding the ridiculously large amounts of the auto manufacturer bailouts.

Plus, they touch up on the still ridiculously greedy stances of the CAW.

*1-Obama on CBC tonight. My first thought about this as I watch Mansbridge is; Did CBC plan this interview to steal some of the thunder from the visit with Harper? Are they that sleazy? Of course,no doubt about it. #2- This 'Plains of Abraham' re=enactment that has been shelved. This was cancelled because of security reasons. There may have been trouble. Not from the people involved, but by those who are offended by actual history. This is the same BS that was used to shut down the pro-life display at the University of Calgary. This is so wrong. Is that all it takes to silence opinions that are offensive to you? If I disagree with anti=war protesters holding a rally, can I stop their right to assemble by saying they may make me violent. This is the same thought process that puts a woman in a full burqa. She has not done anything wrong, but it may invite rape from the impulsive, immature male. #3- Hopefully, this will elevate this post from reader's rant to the lofty position of an actual tip. This video,4 1/2 minutes long, may not accurately depict the 'Plains of Abraham' battle, but I think it does reflect the 'je ne sais quo'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eacP_FQ__F4

That wasn't my turntable, Marc, though our Valentine's day show was.

For your amusement,a short interview with the motorcity madman.--------------Ted Nugent, rock star and avid bow hunter from Michigan, was being interviewed by a French journalist, an animal rights activist.

The discussion came around to deer hunting.
The journalist asked, 'What do you think is the last thought in the head of a deer before you shoot him? Is it, 'Are you my friend?' or is it 'Are you the one who killed my brother?'

Nugent replied, 'Deer aren't capable of that kind of thinking. All they care about is, what am I going to eat next, who am I going to screw next, and can I run fast enough to get away. They are very much like the French.'

The interview ended.

You'd think it would be the government's call, not merely the CRTC's discretion, whether to regulate the Internet. And then the government should reflect that our constitution protects freedom of the press and other media of communication, and thus it should decide to get out of the media regulation business altogether.

Ummmmmmmmmm......because the chimp is smarter than the dumb idiot who tried to "own" him???? What next? Living with grizzlies? Oh wait.

Your tax dollars at work:

Watched Radio Canada's main story about Obama and the stimulus package. 30-seconds about the Republicans opposing the package and a shot of McCain. Nothing about why they oppose the package. The rest was about the Democrats and what they are going to do to stimulate the economy.

Excerpts in translation of Mansbridge's interview with Obama, with Obama saying he is against protectionism, but of course he can't control the governors or congressmen who are for it.

"Allah is the only deity that can be 'humiliated' by humans!"

Muslims do not want kafirs to like them, in fact they are not allowed to take kaffirs as friends. Muslims expect to be feared and hated (the gangsta's version of respect) by the kafirs. However what they don't expect is to be mocked. This is their great weakness, as Ali Sina pointed out.

Above all, Muslims expect to be taken seriously, they just can't stand being ridiculed themselves, and especially having their totems ridiculed. In fact, since every Muslim models himself on Mohammed - 'the perfect man' - to insult Mohammed is to insult each and every Muslim. This is what the cartoon riots were about.

So to that end, a collection of Muslim jokes:

BLACK TICKLE, N.L. - A polar bear was no match for a man from southeastern Labrador who sent the animal packing with the help of a shovel and a gun.

Ed Dyson of Black Tickle says the bear approached his small dog on Tuesday outside his house. The bear then continued toward Dyson, who hit the furry intruder with the shovel.

"He was right down under me and I had a smack at him with the shovel," Dyson said in an interview. "Then he looked up at me - I threw the shovel at him.

"Then I come in and got the gun."

Al-Queda is holding Canadian diplomat Fowler prisoner somewhere in some eastern hell country.

Could we trade taliban Jack for Fowler?
Just wondering.

So far the only "green" jobs created in North America are at the printing presses putting out all that extra "green". The enviro-fascists now have the ecomomies of the world exactly where they have been demanding. But not producing vehicles seems to have repercussions not forseen, like the permanent loss of good union jobs. Taliban Jack bin Layton is demanding that the auto makers produce "green" vehicles, not sure if this means horse-drawn cars or just the color. Resettle PEI with the AMISH then turn it into an interactive National(theme)Park of Anne of Green Gables. By not allowing electricity or petroleum powered machines of any kind the entire country could get credit for lowering the carbon-foot-print.

Robert Fowler is a former Canadian diplomat. He is a Canadian; but, not Canada's UN "ambassador".

Fowler is a UN Moonbat.

Fowler worked for 38 years in Canada’s government before retiring in 2006 and was the country’s longest-serving ambassador to the UN, according to a biography from the Montreal-based Trudeau Foundation, an international affairs organization.

A married Chinese businessman who could no longer afford five mistresses held a competition to decide which one to keep. But the contest took a fatal turn when one of the women, eliminated for her looks, drove the man and the four other competitors off a cliff, Chinese media reported.

The spurned mistress died and the other passengers were injured, the reports said. Police initially thought the car had plummeted off a mountain road in eastern China on December 6 by accident. TY for the link. I have often opined that we would get positive results if our leaders would just mock Islam. A couple choice words would expose many a enemies. The words I think of start with P's and B's. That being said, I disagree with ET about the "why's" of this conflict. I personally believe this boils down to the penis. These B's are so insecure about their manhood that they must subject their women to slavery. That is what this is all about, Muslim men and their desire to control their women, to protect them from the outside world, and yes stopping them from getting laid(and liking it). Can you blame them?

RE: "This 'Plains of Abraham' re=enactment that has been shelved." I think the financial loss to Quebec because of this cancellation will be huge. A grand historical event has the potential to attract hordes of tourists. Moreover, lots of people are looking for interesting driving vacations this year (vs. places they must fly to.) There are a lot of people within driving distance of Quebec City.

The re-enactment promised to be a really neat attraction. Whatever tepid "commemoration" is now planned just will not cut it. Too bad. I have changed my own plans as a result of this and think I might go to the U.S. Eastern seaboard instead -- or maybe Gettysburg in Pennsylvania which I hear is spectacular.

Phyllis Chesler, Are Honor Killings Simply Domestic Violence?

When a husband murders a wife or daughter in the United States and Canada, too often law enforcement chalks the matter up to domestic violence. Murder is murder; religion is irrelevant. Honor killings are, however, distinct from wife battering and child abuse. Analysis of more than fifty reported honor killings shows they differ significantly from more common domestic violence. The frequent argument made by Muslim advocacy organizations that honor killings have nothing to do with Islam and that it is discriminatory to differentiate between honor killings and domestic violence is wrong...

In that case taliban Jack, Denis Coderre and Gilles Duceppe should be the trade bait.

Marching under the taliban flag well qualifies them as sympathizers of Hezbollah / al-queda, should it not?

me no dhimmi - sorry, but I disagree with your statement that the presence of ideological Islamic fascism 'wrecks' my view that Bush's Iraq war pushed Islamic fascism back into the Middle East.
I stand by my view. The violence is now Muslim vs Muslim, and the debates in the ME are about power to the people rather than resting within a hereditary tribal elite.

In the West, ideological (not militant)Islamic fascism is confronted with this ME reality. It is isolated and becoming only rhetorical rather than active.
In addition, the West is slowly and with hiccups, fighting back against multiculturalism - which is a policy that rejects evaluation of cultures, and refuses to define those that are compatible or incompatible with its norms and culture. This policy is being questioned and debated - something impossible even five years ago.

Can you imagine - even in Canada, with multiculturalism in its charter - the debate is public and open - and heavily against relativist multiculturalism.

It will take time but cultural relativism cannot last. Can Islam dominate? No, because it rejects science and reason and individualism. Our industrial economies requires all of these.

As for Plato, I hope you know that Plato rejected democracy; he was openly and intensely opposed to democracy for he considered 'the mass' bereft of reason and requiring Rule by Philosopher-Kings, the Guardians. This is a mode of Rule by a Sovereign, a 'benevolent Sovereign' but one whose Will is Supreme.

Karl Popper, in his wonderful book, The Open State and Its Enemies, strongly critiqued Plato's preferred mode of governance - that undemocratic Rule by the Guardians. Plato rejected change; he wanted to set up a Utopian State - as do the fascists and communists - of perfection. One based on rigid class distinctions, with a ruling class, the Guardians protected by a military, that cannot be challenged. Abolition of private property, abolition of the family. The state is supreme.

Plato's ideal state is totalitarian fascism. Hmm.

ET: Yes, I was aware that Plato's Republic was fascist. And I did read and appreciate Popper after you recommended him. Remember tho that fascism was very popular in the 30s with the elites; FDR was peachy keen on it, for example.

In my remark I was alluding to the incremental infiltration of Islamofascism into Western institutions. I won't bore you with re-stating all the evidence, the Geert Wilders case being only the most recent. Sharia finance being embraced in the US and the UK being another.

Hopefully Bush's Iraq War will have a good long term result and you'll be proven right. But even so, it doesn't change the fact that Sharia law is gradually being instituted in the West. And the 56 state OIC is succeeding in getting "islamophobia" recognized as a legitimate pathology and is also succeeding in instituting anti-blasphemy (for Islam only, of course) laws in our putatively liberal democracies.

To say nothing about the shocking popularity of Hamas and the demonization of Israel for its just war in Gaza.
