Reader Tips

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation and pursuant to our Monday night jazz show, here is some rather rare and historic footage of jazz greats Coleman Hawkins (tenor saxophone), Sweets Edison (trumpet), Papa Jo Jones (drums), and bass and piano: not sure, perhaps Jimmy Woode and Sir Charles Thompson, performing Stoned (7:38) and Caravan (7:16), in 1964.

Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

your msm in action...

on the ctv news tonight, lloyd robertson yammers on
about an "execution style hit"... you know... as
opposed to the non-execution variety.

Here's something I don't understand, and I don't want to put too fine a point on it, yet it remains the case that I must ask, Neo, in what sense, exactly, is it that that collection of bytes that you apparently authored, without context or reference, above, is related either to the concept of reader tips, in general, since that is the title of the topic at hand, or to tonight's SDA LNR show, in particular, since that was the only reader tip already in the discussion, versus, say, for example, it (your comment) being just some sort of generic farting in public, and in the latter case, that is to say, if so, to what degree exactly do you consider that to be appropriate behaviour?

The Eastern World it is imploding.

… a growing crisis in Eastern Europe could cause nothing less than a total collapse in the West, or as he put it: “If one spark jumps across the euro zone line, we will have global systemic crisis within days.”

Here's something else I don't understand:
what happens if the collapse is so total that
even the four horsemen can't get through?

And that my dear Vit is why I counsel getting to know your hoe.

Don't need horses then. heh

What part of that don't you understand Vit? If they can't get through then I guess the end of the world is on hold.

Course, it is a little odd that the biblical references to the anti-Christ allude to a very popular world leader.

The end of the world has to wait though . . . it is a long weekend.

Cheers,
lance

On Hold?!? Again!?! When will this new system work?

what happens if the collapse is so total that
even the four horsemen can't get through?

A black hole singularity.

Call for black hole, white courtesy telephone, please.

I'm sorry sir, that number is no longer in service.

On hold again: the story of my life; no courtesy, no longer in service. A man of means? By no means. On the other hand, I do have a trailer for rent, and if you're interested, maybe a room to let, already.

"...generic farting in public" indeed.

While not the longest I've ever seen, it truly is a finely crafted (and toned) run-on sentence. ^5 Vit

PS I liked the music too.

Here's my video post

My mondegreen was "there's hate in Regina" rather than "there's hate in Red China"

I posted this earlier amid some scrapping among trolls and I'm sure it was overlooked. Our BC Liberal Government is acting like Liberals again and I think everyone should know. Here is the link to the recent tragedy: **http://tinyurl.com/cy8okb**
(Cut and paste inside the **'s to your address bar.)
My comments were: I would like to bring things a little closer to home. We are having a frightening criminal gang problem. This morning a woman was shot to death in a "high end sports car" in Surrey a few blocks from my home. Apparently there was a child in the car with her.
To me the reaction of the standing Liberal Government is as frightening as the gang problem. They are going to: outlaw the wearing of body armor, outlaw armor plating in automobiles, and assail gun merchants who sell guns to the movie industry. I don't think anyone would be naive enough to believe that assaults on the homes and businesses of duck hunters will not come when the Press demands victories.
Maybe this looks OK on the surface but does this target the real problem? It's the criminals stupid. There have been no arrests and would be no meaningful jail sentences if there were.
What if I want to wear body armor? What if I want to shove a garbage can lid inside my truck door?
What if I want to see a movie where real guns are used or go duck hunting without being assaulted by a Swat Team?
When the politicians panic why do they always "surround the wrong building". Or is there room for suspicion that a looming catastrophe was allowed to grow so that liberties could be denied in the name of saving us?

First, I weigh in with a great article by Mark Steyn. Obamateur Hour. here

Then hopefully I get to say that I liked both your comments Neo and Vit. Hilarious both of them.

This was in the USA-Today, yesterday. We are now getting an insight to the hidden costs of Gov't civil service that have (IOU) unfunded health benefits. These are not accounted for and hidden from taxpayers. The total is more than 1 trillion
The University of Texas and the Texas A&M systems have a combined $7 billion obligation.
How the hell did these Universities run up billions in unfunded benefits?

The only way to stop this nonsense, by Unions & worthless free-loaders, is to TAX those benefits out of existence.

I didn't make this up.

Leftwing Elites Plotting Big Global Media

http://thecanadiansentinel.blogspot.com/2009/02/leftwing-elites-plotting-big-global.html

Elite members of the World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting in Davos, Switzerland, recently considered a proposal for a new global television network to usher in a state of “global governance.” The concept strikes some as authoritarian, even totalitarian. But the parent company of Fox News was one of the sponsors of this year's gathering.

The media proposal, which was included in “The Global Agenda 2009” report, is to create “a new global network” with “the capacity to connect the world, bridging cultures and peoples, and telling us who we are and what we mean to each other.” Several prominent U.S. media figures signed on to the alarming and controversial proposal.

This global network would apparently include the likes of Al Jazeera and Chinese Communist media.

They want us to pay for it... via our taxes. Via global taxation.

Yet another article on Allied Bombing in WWII of German cities. This one in The National Post (An Air Raid Like Any Other) by Randall Hansen. The latter is Canada Research Chair, Department of Political Science, University of Toronto and author of Fire and Fury: the Allied Bombing of Germany (Doubleday Canada, 2008).

As the daughter of a veteran of Bomber Command, I am so tired of these constant attacks on what Sir Arthur Harris and Bomber Command (a quarter of which was made up of Canadians) did. Do you think Hitler hestitated for one minute to devastate allied cities. Thanks in part to Bomber Command his scientists were not able to complete their work on an atomic bomb.

I guess all these academics and media types are just waiting for all the veterans to die off to tell it how it was.

How about more books about the atrocities of Mao or even the executions and organ harvesting in China prisons? I guess you can't get a Canada Council grant for these things.

First you question neo's post as to its relevance to reader tips or your oh so precious youtube and wiki search, and then you go on to make a series of posts with exactly the same relevance.

Can you explain that Vit?

"Global Cooling Continues

By James M. Taylor, Heartland Institute

Continuing a decade-long trend of declining global temperatures, the year 2008 was significantly colder than 2007, and global temperatures for the year were below the average over the past 30 years. The global temperature data, reported by NASA satellite-based temperature measurements, refuted predictions 2008 would be one of the warmest on record.

Data show 2008 ranked 14th coldest of the 30 years measured by NASA satellite instruments since they were first launched in 1979. It was the coldest year since 2000.

"Funds lost over hatred

Minister called 'professional whore'

Immigration Minister Jason Kenney is poised to slash federal funding to Canada's largest Arabic group after its president called him a "professional whore" for supporting Israel.

In an exclusive interview with Sun Media from London, England, where he is to speak today at an international conference on anti-Semitism, Kenney said groups are free within legal bounds to say what they like. But groups whose leaders say intolerant or hateful things shouldn't get taxpayer funding.

"We should not be rewarding those who express views that are contrary to Canada's best liberal values of tolerance and mutual respect."

One of those groups, said Kenney, is the Canadian Arab Federation whose president Khaled Mouammar called him a "professional whore" after Kenney criticized the presence of Hezbollah and Hamas flags at anti-Israel rallies in Toronto."

Can someone, anyone, explain to me just what in hell the government is doing giving the Canadian Arab Federation any money in the first place?

This may help to explain a different bob's question.

"Could the CAF's reluctance to criticize the Liberals in fact be a partisan decision, one that stems from the fact that a former president of the CAF is now a sitting Liberal MP? Who knows? Maybe the CAF thinks it can persuade Liberals to sympathize with Hamas?"

Spengler, Obama, an economic unilateralist

The silliest thing that clever people are saying about the world economic crisis is that the United States will lose its position as the dominant world superpower in consequence. On the contrary: the crisis strengthens the relative position of the United States and exposes the far graver weaknesses of all prospective competitors. It makes the debt of the American government the world's most desirable asset. America may deserve to decline, but as Clint Eastwood said in another context, "deserve's got nothing to do with it". President Barack Obama may turn out to be the most egregious unilateralist in American history...

Apparently we are losing our best and brightest (anthropomorphic) environmental scientists. At first I thought that was a bad thing. Then I did a Google search on the principal. Good luck Australia.

"Errors in publicly presented data - Worth blogging about?
16 02 2009

In the prior thread I raised a question of why there was a large downward jump in sea ice extent on the graph presented by NSIDC’s Artic Sea Ice News page. The image below was the reason, dozens of people called my attention to it in emails and comments overnight because in the space of a weekend, a million-plus square kilometers of Arctic sea ice went missing. Note the blue line.

When I checked NSIDC’s web site this morning, about 8:30 AM PST (9:30AM MST Mountain time in Boulder where NSIDC is located) the image was still up. A half hour later it remained. I checked all around the NSIDC web site for any notice, including the links they provide for the data issues.

Learn about update delays, which occasionally occur in near-real-time data. Read about the data.

Finding nothing, and knowing that it was now 10AM in Boulder, which should have been plenty of time to post some sort of notice, I decided to write a quick post about it, which was published at 9:10AM PST (10:10MST) and drove to work.

The corrected image (with the million square kilometers of sea ice restored) appeared on the NSIDC web site just shy of 3 hours later, about noon PST or 1 PM MST."

Good for you, Anthony! Mega-kudos!

In stark contrast to the 1960’s when most of us had no choice but to believe Walter Cronkite when he told us, “And that’s the way it is” in that deep, believable voice, these days there are not only eyes in the sky, but many millions of people with internet access and all that that implies for data questioning, checking, cross-referencing, and publishing.

Ironic, just a bit, since Al Gore tells us he invented the internet. Thank you, Al!"

Philip Sherwell, Israel launches covert war against Iran

Israel has launched a covert war against Iran as an alternative to direct military strikes against Tehran's nuclear programme, US intelligence sources have revealed.

It is using hitmen, sabotage, front companies and double agents to disrupt the regime's illicit weapons project, the experts say.

The most dramatic element of the "decapitation" programme is the planned assassination of top figures involved in Iran's atomic operations...

But is lowering the bar in Afghanistan a workable strategy? Does de-emphasizing the building of a capable, democratic Afghan state, moving away from a full-scale counterinsurgency effort, and focusing instead on keeping the Taliban and al Qaeda at bay lead, in Vice President Biden's words, to "a stable Afghanistan that is not a haven for terrorists"? More likely it results in an Afghanistan that is unstable, balkanized, and home to more, not fewer, terrorists. The real, on-the-ground choice is between a democratic Afghanistan whose governance extends throughout the whole country or no legitimate government at all, with every man, family, tribe, and ethnic group looking out for its own...

Ulianov: "I'm looking forward to Obama convening a war crimes trial."

Thanks for the link to the article in Harper's. Problem is, you've made an uncritical leap from that account to your assumption that there will be a trial. The following highlights the weakness in this article:

“The Nelly account shows that health professionals are right in the thick of the torture and abuse of the prisoners [at Gitmo]—suggesting a systematic collapse of professional ethics driven by the Pentagon itself. ... Neely’s account demonstrates once more how much the Bush team kept secret and how little we still know about their comprehensive program of official cruelty and torture.”

Like so many anti-Bush administration types, the author is too lazy to check the truth of the allegations, relying instead on the "three UC Berkeley law students" (great source!) who compiled the account, and too lazy to construct the case that a "comprehensive program of official cruelty and torture" really did exist. He prefers to move straight to the sentencing and to rely on an equally lazy readership. He seems to have found some fertile ground in one of SDA's commenters.

I'm afraid you'll need to find something more productive to do in the next few years than wait for this war crimes trial.

"Get a job, Mochrie"

My sentiments exactly. This bozo who I've often found funny is now shilling for his entitlement to be seen, not because he is humourous but because he is Canadian. How pathetic is that? The fact that he crosses the border most times to work in another country doesn't dawn on him. Canadian talent shouldn't have to have government big brother giving them a captive audience. Captain Kirk didn't need no nanny state to boldly go where these namby pamby actors wish they could go.

"Notes from the underground"

"To listen to Klaus is therefore to simultaneously hear echoes of the past and intimations of the future. For as Klaus notes in his recent speech about ‘Europeism’ which is excerpted after the “Read More”, some of the ideas which his generation fought so hard to defeat behind the Iron Curtain have found new and darker homes in the intellectual centers of Western Civilization; and now stride forward in their mutant forms into the public space. But while Klaus’ speech is ostensibly addressed to Europeans, it is really pitched at a wider audience. In the United States — and even the repressed and fundamentalist societies of the Middle East — an expanded state control over the individual is being increasingly pitched as the face of the future. Klaus’ speech argues that it is no such novelty but an ancient and corrupted thing; that underneath the smooth production values, the cunning sound-bites and outwardly youthful appearances, the deceptive packaging of hope and change, this progressivism is nothing but freedom’s old enemy — and man’s.
