I saw Craig Oliver this afternoon on CTV Newsnet deliver the very worst opinion segment ever. It's no secret that he's as anti-Conservative as a person could be, but after only a few minutes of listening I realized that every single point he made was either completely wrong, misguided, factually inaccurate, or entirely impossible. I've never heard someone go so far out of their way to hate on Prime Minister Harper (apparantly the recession is completely his fault).
It was embarrasing, and frankly much worse than anything I've ever seen coming from the CBC, which is actually amazing in its own right.
Ironically, only moments later the station played one of those forced apologies where they had to admit they broke journalistic standards when they did a story showing not-Chinese police brutalizing some citizens to accompany a piece where the story featured an interview with a Chinese diplomat. Whatever, I'm not familiar with that story. Ironically, they should probably run one tomorrow to try to explain the Craig Oliver segment. I'd hate to see him get away with that.
Like I said, every single statement he made was wrong. It was like a perfect storm of inaccuracy.
The "we love Iggy" interview segment that preceded it was one for the record books too. Unbelieveable.

Domestic terror training camps are still here. And now, a documentary is released...
I've covered this matter in the past. Remember Jamaat ul Fuqra? Remember its founder, Sheik Mubarak Gilani, who was arrested on suspicion in the kidnapping and murder of Daniel Pearl, who was en route to interview the Sheik at the time he was abducted, and is a flunky of none other than Osama bin Laden?
Remember my post about the JuF terror training compound just outside Ottawa? That was my most-viewed post of all time.
They're still here.

Just another misinformed, inner struggler, moderate Muslim cleric:
"Australian Muslim cleric, six others jailed on terror charges
9 hours ago"
MELBOURNE, Australia (AFP) — A Muslim cleric and six followers were jailed for up to 15 years Tuesday for forming an Australian terror cell that plotted bomb attacks designed to kill thousands.
"The organisation fostered and encouraged its members to engage in violent jihad -- to perform a terrorist act," judge Bernard Bongiorno told Victoria state's Supreme Court after Australia's biggest terrorism trial.
Firebrand cleric Abdul Nacer Benbrika, 48, was jailed for 15 years, of which he must serve at least 12 years, while his followers received minimum terms of between four and seven-and-a-half years.
Algerian-born Benbrika had urged them to target large crowds at sports matches or a train station to pressure the Australian government to withdraw its soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan, the court heard.
Benbrika had said it was "permissible to kill women, children and the aged," prosecutors said. Material seized from the group included bomb-making instructions and video tapes with messages from Osama bin Laden.

"Two sides to Adam Smith
Behind the story: Philip Collins*
Gordon Brown, a man of Kirkcaldy like Adam Smith, has often said that the latter’s The Theory of Moral Sentiments is one of his biggest influences. Wen Jiabao yesterday said that he carries a copy when travelling.
There are two Adam Smiths, for people who have read neither. The first is the free-market man, based on his later, more famous book, The Wealth of Nations, in which he suggests that an invisible hand means a lot of public good is the result of blind private actions in a market. It is not from the goodwill of the baker that we get our bread but from the incentive of profit.
The other Adam Smith, of The Theory of Moral Sentiments, says that people have a natural fellowfeeling, a “sympathy” for others, which derives from the pleasure of seeing other people happy.
In fact, the division is in politics, not in Adam Smith. He first mentions the invisible hand in the earlier book. The innate sympathy we have for others regulates society better than government intervention. Order is maintained because we are nice – not because our leaders are."

The lawmakers gazed in awe at the figure before them. The Goracle had seen the future, and he had come to tell them about it.
What the Goracle saw in the future was not good: temperature changes that “would bring a screeching halt to human civilization and threaten the fabric of life everywhere on the Earth — and this is within this century, if we don’t change.”
The chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, John Kerry (D-Mass.), appealed to hear more of the Goracle’s premonitions. “Share with us, if you would, sort of the immediate vision that you see in this transformative process as we move to this new economy,” he beseeched.
“Geothermal energy,” the Goracle prophesied. “This has great potential; it is not very far off.”
Another lawmaker asked about the future of nuclear power. “I have grown skeptical about the degree to which it will expand,” the Goracle spoke."

While I believe that every family of a murder victim deserves to have the case solved, I am of two minds about the re-opening of the Jon Benet case yet again. How much cash has been dumped into this case?

Elie Leshem, Ya'alon: Topple Iran to end global Jihad
Former IDF chief of staff and Likud Knesset candidate Moshe Ya'alon on Tuesday said that there would be no end to global terrorism until the Islamic regime in Iran was removed.

(PDF warning) Shmuel Bar, Iranian Terrorist Policy and "Export of Revolution"
Since its inception, the Islamic regime in Iran has been committed to jihad and to “propagation of Islam” (tablighi eslami) or "export of Revolution” (sudur inqilab). The former is viewed by the regime as a fundamental Islamic duty and the latter as a prime tenet of the regime’s ideology, enshrined in the Constitution and the works of the Imam Khomeini. The targets of these ideological concepts are Israel and the West against whom jihad is waged and Muslims to whom the Iranian Revolution must be exported.
Terrorism has played both a tactical and strategic role in this context...
I remain concerned about Obama as President. He doesn't seem to me to be a Leader; that is, someone who makes decisions for the good of the nation and its people.
He's a narcissistic politician. What he likes is to 'make people do what he wants'. That's where he gets his 'thrill of power'. He's not interested in the policy or program that he is promoting; he's interested in the action of making people do what he wants. That's one step away from dictatorship. One step.
At the moment, he makes them do what he wants by emotional manipulation. He pretends he's a victim of racism. Or poverty. Or abandonment. So, he appeals to their pity. Then, he appeals to their patriotism; he's an example of the freedom to move upwards in America. Then, he makes them afraid: 'the economy is terrible so pass this Bill'. Or he tells them they are prejudiced if they don't pass it.
But his ONLY interest is in making people do what he wants. He has no interest in the policies or programs. They bore him. We saw that in his brief stint in the Senate; he's readily bored by the policies.
He's written two books - not about the USA, not about economics or foreign policy or other infrastructures of a nation. No; they are about himself. His focus is strictly and only on himself and his psychological 'power' to constantly make people do what he wants. That's a serious neurosis.
Chretien, also a narcissist, wasn't interested in that constant thrill of manipulation. He dealt with the electorate only at election times. The rest of the time, he ignored the electorate; he was indifferent to them and wanted nothing to do with them. Chretien wanted political power because it enabled him to, with his cronies, achieve FINANCIAL POWER.
Obama isn't interested in Financial Power. Nor is he interested in policies or programs or national infrastructure. He's not interested, frankly, in the USA. He needs the thrill of constant, daily, manipulation of people, of the electorate, of Senators, of Representatives, of Governors.....simply to make them Do What He Wants.
With this current stimulus package, Obama is not interested in its content - which is strongly criticized as being 'pork' and an enormous waste of money; Obama is interested only on his ability to manipulate people to get it passed.
I suspect his need to express this type of power will increase; this leads to a vacuum of leadership in the USA - and the opportunity for backroom, unaccountable power brokers to emerge.
The list of O's nominees to key positions keeps dwindling.
" Nancy Killefer, who failed for a year and a half to pay employment taxes on household help, has withdrawn her candidacy to be the first chief performance officer for the federal government, the White House said Tuesday.
Killefer was the second major Obama administration nominee to withdraw and the third to have tax problems complicate their nomination after President Barack Obama announced their selection. "

I strongly disagree that Islamic fascism emerges and exists only or primarily within Iran. Islamic fascism is a political movement that is not confined to one nation. It emerged primarily in Saudi Arabia, and remains a key force in that country. SA funds militant groups and mosques all around the world. The cause is a dysfunctional tribal political infrastructure that denies economic and political power to the emerging middle class in ALL the Middle East States.
Bush recognized that, with his policy of enabling democracy in the ME. Democracy empowers the middle class.
Israel isn't focused on ending Islamic fascism. If it were, it would enable and encourage more economic links and democracy in the ME. Israel wants the US to attack Iran and it is engaged in a serious propaganda effort to convince the US and Obama, to do so. Why?
Is it only because Iran is funding Hamas and Hezbollah, not for fascist reasons, but as a strategy of exporting internal dissent. Iran is certainly 'exporting Revolution' but the revolution is internal, against the current Iranian regime! But is that all? Israel is quite capable of dealing with Hamas and Hezbollah on its own. I maintain that its strategies so far, which are war, are the complete opposite of what it ought to do, but that is another issue.
What Israel ought to do, to defeat Hamas and Hezbollah, would be to remove the 'honey pot' attraction of a Palestinian Resistance against Israel. How? By enabling a Palestinian state. That would 'cut the ground off' immediately from any Hamas/Hezbollah agenda.
However, if the US attacked Iran, I suspect that it wouldn't defeat Hamas or Hezbollah, for terrorist groups can never be defeated militarily, but only economically. But, it might end the hope for a future Palestinian state for it would destabilize the region.

"Chinese TV broadcasts man throwing shoe at Wen
BEIJING - Chinese state television Tuesday aired the entire footage of a man hurling his shoe at China's prime minister during a trip to Britain - an unusual departure from official media's practice of suppressing embarrassing events as print and broadcast outlets had done earlier in the day.
CCTV, along with the official news agency and newspapers, initially reported the event obliquely, referring only to an "incident" or describing Britain's apology without giving details of the protest. But unedited footage of the event was shown on CCTV's main evening news report Tuesday night.
China tightly controls its media and often suppresses news seen as unflattering to the Communist party and state leaders. It also monitors and censors the Internet, although the sheer volume of online content - the country has 298 million web users - makes it far harder to paint over bad news."

The Liberals as a registered political party appear to be taking non-monetary contributions from foreigners to raise more money in Canada. (*H/T The Witch, The Brothers Grimm)
Here is Warren Kinsella, today, writing about Jason Kenney:
"But who is Jason Kenney, you ask? A sampling, just from one month in one year (there’s lots more, in other months and years):
• “There's something about the complementarity of the sexes, a man and a woman together which creates a setting for, an ideal setting for the regeneration of society.” Globe and Mail, February 21, 2005
• “Marriage is open to everybody, as long as they're a man and a woman.” Toronto Star, February 15, 2005
• “Look, equality doesn't mean treating everybody exactly the same…there are forms of just discrimination.” National Post, February 15, 2005
And so on. Jason, who other MPs have said sounds like a raging homophobe - and who considers some forms of discrimination "just" - is the cabinet minister in charge of eliminating discrimination. Confused? Me, too."
Notice Kinsella's conclusions:
Kenney acknowledges that our species is a sexual species and requires male and female cohabitation for 'the regeneration of society'. Well, that's a biological fact. Equally, since our nurturance or socialization period is so long, humans require nurturing from the different characteristics of each gender; that's a fact and hardly a novel fact.
Yet Kinsella defines this as 'raging homophobia'. What did Kenney say that showed his opposition to homosexuality? He was talking about the regeneration of a society, biologically and socially.
Kenney's conclusion that marriage should be confined, socially, to man and woman, isn't a sign of 'raging homophobia' but an acknowledgement of the above conclusion.
And certainly, equality doesn't mean treating everyone the same - and there are most certainly requirements for 'just discrimination'. We discriminate against beliefs that promote polygamy, that promote inequality of women, that promote hiring someone on the basis, not of their merit but only on their skin colour..and so on.
Interesting, for Kinsella, only his opinions have validity. The views of others are 'phobias'.
For your enjoyment. Well not really I find it a touch scary. Over at a site called savagepolitics.com a posting about a bill[H.R. 645] in the house of reps. by Alcee Hastings. This has some folks a little worried.National emergency centers for corralling civilians? What the hell does that mean?
Ignatieff isn't worried about 'control of his party members'; his allowing the Newfoundland MPs a free vote is all about votes. Liberal Votes. In Newfoundland.
By doing this, he's acknowledging that Newfoundland MPs have POWER. That will bring him goodwill. And votes. And Danny Williams. All of that is far more pragmatically useful than a few extra votes in the House - which aren't needed anyway to pass the budget.
From a recent article on Iggy which I quote here: http://www.1337hax0r.com/2009/02/03/iggy-authoritarian-prig/
"Mr. Peretz recounts how efforts to have Mr. Ignatieff promoted to assistant professor were squelched by an influential member of the Harvard faculty who argued that, “given his advantages as a scion of the aristocracy, and an especially handsome one too, his accomplishments were less than they appeared.”"
So, all, Mr. Ignatieff was NOT a Professor or even an Assistant Professor at Harvard. In fact, he was a Director of the Carr School for Human Rights - a non profit group funded by the Kennedy Foundation.
A Canadian comparison would be the Manning Foundation - people who get together to think about things.
REAL academics nixed Mr. Ignatieff's attempt to be even an Assistant Proff.

Obama operates, not as a leader focused on the pragmatic value of policies and programs, but within an agenda of political manipulation to bend people to His Will.
Against the advice of economic experts, and based on his desire to attract followers and voters, he's promoting a disastrous 'economic program'.
Against the advice of the top military commanders, he's planning to leave Iraq without US military assistance.
"CENTCOM commander Gen. David Petraeus, supported by Defence Secretary Robert Gates, tried to convince President Barack Obama that he had to back down from his campaign pledge to withdraw all U.S. combat troops from Iraq within 16 months at an Oval Office meeting Jan. 21." They are concerned that such a total withdrawal will jeopardize the political stability achieved by Iraq.
"But Obama informed Gates, Petraeus and Joint Chiefs Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen that he wasn't convinced and that he wanted Gates and the military leaders to come back quickly with a detailed 16-month plan".
Who will Obama blame if they follow His Will and instability or worse is the result? Remember, Obama, as a Sovereign and narcissist, is never at fault.

CALGARY, AB, February 2, 2009: The University of Calgary has charged a number of its own students with "trespassing" for having set up a controversial pro-life display on campus this past November.
Two months after exhibiting the Genocide Awareness Project (GAP) the pro-life students received, privately in their homes, summons to court. They must enter a plea by the end of this month, with a trial to be set for later in the year.
The students, who are members of the Campus Pro-Life (CPL) club, set up the Genocide Awareness Project (GAP) on November 26th and 27th of 2008. ...
... the University threatened the pro-life students with arrest and academic sanctions, including possible expulsion, if they set up the display.
